Here it is, everyone. On the 4th anniversary of the original fanfic, I give you the more defined version of my very first work as a writer on the site, "The Life of Ash and Serena", now being remade as "Ash and Serena: KFFs in Time" with the purpose of the story still telling the adventurous, and romantic lives between two characters, Ash Ketchum, and Serena Yvonne, bound to become from friends to lovers.
I hope everyone enjoys this remake with some revisions and additional changes made throughout. This will still be a long journey to fulfill with these two, so I hope everyone stays long with this journey being shown throughout. Anyways, for people who read the original, you may remember that the bulk of the series was filled with XY rewrites. Well, they'll still be shown here, with revisions and such, but there are some original chapters first, starting out with the origins of the main characters themselves as they will pertain to the story in a way.
First chapter here begins with the main man himself, Ash. We'll begin to see his origins as a child and before he met Serena, as we get a glimpse of his life wanting to become a Pokemon Master someday. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon or its characters!
Chapter 1: Ash's Origins
Hello, you might be wondering, why are we in space? Well, we're about to jump into a world, a planet known as Earth and it's filled with lots of Pokémon around there.
What are Pokémon, you may ask? Well, they're mysterious, unique creatures out in the wild, that serve many purposes to live in harmony with humans. Used in Pokémon battles, contests, performances, and even nursing. But most of all, they're our friends.
There are lots of regions throughout Earth, ranging from Kanto to Galar, Earth roams free with these lovely creatures. We head down to the Kanto region at a small place called Pallet Town, and we go to a small 2 story house with a boy named Ash Ketchum.
Ash is only 7 years old, and he's still waiting for the day he becomes a Pokémon Trainer. But for now, he's still enjoying his life as a child until that milestone is reached for him.
Today, we see him wake up early in the morning at his home upstairs in his room. His room is filled with various Pokémon plushies, like Pikachu and Squirtle next to his window. A Snorlax beanie around the corner of the room for comfort, and a Bulbasaur Alarm Clock.
Within the next minute, the alarm clock rings and Ash is still asleep despite the ringing heard throughout his room, if not, the entire house. He begins to lay up from his bed, and he starts to talk in his sleep.
"Okay…Another Pokémon to catch…" Ash mistakenly grabs his alarm clock for a Pokeball. "Charmander…I choose you!" Ash throws his alarm clock straight at a wall in the room causing it to stop ringing, and is split into various pieces on his floor, rendering it broken.
The impact of the collision alerts him awake and he wakes up in his room seeing that it's morning, bright out sunny. But he checks below on his floor noticing the shattered pieces of his alarm clock. "Oh, no…Mommy's going to be mad."
Hearing the steps coming up in his room, Ash decides to hide under the covers of his blanket. The door is open, revealing a woman in her twenties with auburn hair with a red vest and yellow shirt underneath. She also wears light blue pants with light green slippers on her feet. This woman is Delia Ketchum, Ash's mother. She's been taking excellent care of her son since the day he was born, and she was so amazed to give birth to him, while her pregnancy was unexpected at the age of 20.
Ash's birth date was May 22, 2000, and when that day came, despite all the pain that Delia went through, more than 30 hours in labor, it was worth it for her. She and her husband couldn't be happier having their first ever son, and even a bit of time with the name processing. But for now, 7 years later, she's standing in front of Ash's room, not looking too pleased.
"Ash Ketchum! You get out from under those covers and talk to me!" Delia shouted.
Ash didn't even proceed to get out or even move a bit from the covers. He acted like he's still asleep from the previous night just to fool his mother. But for being a 27 year old woman, she couldn't be easily fooled.
"Young boy, that trick isn't going to make me leave the room, now listen to me!" Delia said as she walks over to her son's bed and pulls off the bed covers revealing a slightly sheeping Ash just trying to laugh a little upon seeing his mother.
"Did you throw another alarm clock at the wall again?" Delia asked.
Ash didn't want to respond, but his mother was giving him a stern look in her eyes. Instead, he gives a shy look at her, and barely nods his face as his answer.
"Ugh. Ashy, what am I going to do with you having to keep acting up like this. Sometimes you're a nice boy, and other times, you're just giving me trouble." Delia said, putting her hands on her hips.
Ash frowned seeing his mother talked like that. Sure, while at a young age, he knows he's a good kid. But like many others at this age, he could get in a bit of trouble.
"You know, this parenting thing has become more difficult for me ever since your father abandoned me a few years ago. He was there on the day you were born, and we shared every moment seeing you until he left the house." Delia said about her husband. "And it angers me that he hasn't returned ever since, leaving me to watch you grow. I still even remember the day when you decided to become a Pokémon Trainer."
Ash can barely remember his father. He was a tall man given to have some similar aspects to him and was basically the inspiration of wanting to become a Pokémon Trainer. That day that his mother mentioned is one of the most impactful days of his life. It was truly a special day to remember. It was a bright summer day when he was 4 years old…
Flashback (3 years ago)
It was a sunny day, like most days are around Pallet Town. Ash was awake and ready to play outside, living his own life as a kid. Delia is downstairs in the living room enjoying breakfast with her husband, a tall man with brown hair, wears a red vest along with blue jeans and brown shoes to wear. This man is without a doubt, Ash's father, the Kanto Champion, named Red Ketchum. One of the best trainers in the world. Delia was ready to wake up her son off the bed to be ready for the day. "Oh, Ashy! Time to wake up!"
"Mommy?"
Delia proceeds to open the door, and sees her son up and awake for the day. "Ah, there's my Ashy!"
Ash giggles at the sight of his mother, greeting him to a new day. Delia carries him up in her arms. "Are you excited for today?"
"Yeah, mommy! I wanna see the Pokemons, at the lab." Ash said.
"Sorry, Ashy. The lab is not a part of our plans today. We have something else in mind." Delia said, smiling sadly at her son. The raven haired kid stared blankly at his mother before she continued her sentence. "We're heading down to Cerulean Park today, isn't that exciting?"
Upon hearing this, Ash's eyes brightened hearing his mother's plans for the day. Apparently filled with excitement like any kid would on Christmas morning. "The park?! Mommy, I'm so excited!"
Delia giggles at her son's excitement and puts him down on the ground. "I'm so glad to hear that, Ashy! But we're not heading out right now. Breakfast is downstairs, and it's important to eat that first thing of the day, so if you eat it, we'll go down to the park. Understand?"
"Yes, mommy."
"Good. Your dad is downstairs waiting for you." Delia smiles and kisses Ash's cheek, with the little boy running out of his room and approaching the stairs. Hearing his loud footsteps, Delia hollered out to him, "Don't run down the stairs!"
"Sowrry."
Downstairs, Ash meets his father eating bacon strips down his throat. "Oh, hey champ!"
"Daddy!" Ash runs to his father's arms and receives the hug that he was reaching out towards.
"Are you excited for today, little buddy?" Red asked.
"Yah! Mommy said we're going to the park. I can't wait!" Ash said, eagerly.
"Heh heh." Red hears his wife coming down the stairs as he begins to talk to her. "So, you told our boy about our plans for today?"
"Yep! We have an eager kid in our hands, apparently." Delia giggled. If there's one thing that Delia loved about Ash, it was that ever since the day he was born, he looked super adorable and an excited kid for days. She still remembers shedding a tear from her eye, seeing her baby for the first time ever. A small baby, with cutest eyes despite being closed, and the smallest tuff of black hair on his head. From that day onwards, she and her husband cherish seeing Ash growing up each day, with bundles of eagerness to show with his parents. 9 months may have been painful for Delia, but it was surely worth it in the end, because she wouldn't have the precious son that she loves each and every single day. She still awaits the day he turns 10 years old, though, to become a Pokémon Trainer and set out on the greatest journey her son can imagine.
"Alright, Ashy, sit down with your daddy and I'll get your breakfast in the kitchen so we can eat together as a family." Delia said, as she left the living room to grab Ash's breakfast.
Breakfast time went by quick for the entire family. If it's a little surprising to his parents, it's that Ash can eat a little quicker than the usual human can eat in a normal basis. Munching down on his syrup-flavored, warm and melted buttery pancakes, Ash was surely feeling energized for his day at the park with his parents. Of course, noticing his speedrunning talent for any meal, his parents advise him to chew down slowly before getting into a choking incident.
Later…
After breakfast time, it was time for the family to head down to Cerulean Park to have their family fun together
"Da park! We're here!" Ash said, delighted to see Cerulean Park with a bunch of energetic kids playing around the swings and slides, getting messy on the sandbox, and even practicing their monkey skills hanging on the bars.
"Okay, Ashy. Go have fun and play while me and your father watch you with the other kids!" Delia said, patting her son's head.
"Okay, mommy!" Ash hugs his mother and father before running off into the playground.
Both Delia and her husband sits down on the bench where they can see their son. It has been a good 20 minutes or so witnessing their son having fun before a group of people walks by the married couple noticing Delia's husband.
"Oh my goodness, you're the Kanto Champion!" One person gasped, clasping her hands onto her mouth.
"The Kanto Champion's in the park!" Another guy hollered out. A bunch of people huddled up around the couple as they ask for Delia's husband to sign autographs, and a few tips into Pokémon battling. Delia doesn't mind her husband's status to be known as one of the most famous people in the region and one of the most recognizable champions, but it's always tough being part of a paparazzi.
While Delia's husband takes care of the paparazzi, the sweet mother herself is concern for Ash. With the paparazzi in her way, she can't get a good look at her son, not even a glimpse of what he's up to.
But while Delia's a sweet mother and all, she does have some brute strength from times working out with her exercise, so what does she do while being in a literal tough crowd? She pushes some of the people out of her way, just to look for her son. About 20 people were in her way, and after being claustrophobic by a bunch of people, she was in the clear to find her son. A 360 degree look from all sides, and Delia doesn't find Ash anywhere in the playground area.
Delia is surely worried, with a very concerned look on her face. "Ash? Ashy! Where are you?!" The mother walks around Cerulean Park looking for her son, not caring for her husband, given how busy he is with the paparazzi.
As for Ash, the boy wondered around outside the playground area, up until he's not knowledgeable to know that he's beginning to walk into the outskirts of the park. Near the park, Ash begins to end up at a forest. He's a little fascinated with the nature around him and seeing a bunch of flying type Pokémon in the Kanto skies. A family of Pidgey roaming the free skies, a Butterfree resting easy at a tree. Ash was speechless seeing them with his eyes.
He walks for a few more minutes deep into the forest, but a loud crackling sound was heard. Ash looks up at the skies, and notices it turning into very cloudy. No longer being a bright sunny day, Ash feels a little concerned with the status of the Kanto skies. A few seconds later, a drip of rain falls onto his nose. "Uh-oh."
Ash just realizes what he has done. He wondered off out of the park, without his parents in the scene, and now he's the lonely one in the woods. "Mommy? Daddy?" Ash calls out to his parents, but it was no use since he was a bit far from the playground. Ash is surely getting worried here, with a grinning scared look into his face. From his young age, he was surely scared with the rainstorm turning into a thunderstorm, which was something he's scared of for a few years, hiding beneath his bed covers while his mom sings him a lullaby.
"Mommy…I want to go home!" Ash hollered throughout the forest. The rain begins to pour and Ash was starting to become wet. "Daddy! Where are you?!" Ash begins to run through the forest in search of his parents, but it was no use. He lost his way back to the playground, while a rainy day trumps his excitement of the day.
Ash stops running, this was how he was going to spend the rest of his life, lost in a forest, beginning to starve for days. The boy sits down in sadness, just giving up on finding his parents, a few tears shedding his eyes. But after a few minutes of crying, the boy begins to wipe his tears and notices a few Pokémon out in the wild, drenched in the rain. A Weedle, Butterfree, Caterpie, Oddish, and a Rattata were in his sight.
The boy begins to get up from the ground and approaches the Pokémon. "Hey, you're a bunch of Pokémon out in the rain." The Pokémon stares at him with confused looks on their face to know who Ash was.
"I'm Ash Ketchum. We should look for some place to get off this rain." Ash introduces himself to the wild Pokémon. The Pokémon continues to look confused at him for a few more seconds, until they agree with Ash and begin to follow him in search of shelter around the rain. Running around for what seems to be like an hour, but turns out to be 10 minutes for Ash and the wild Pokémon, they eventually found a cave.
"Dis looks like a place fwom the wain." Ash said, inspecting the cave inside. "Wat do you guys think?"
The Pokémon begins to wonder for a moment, before all making the quick agreeing answer nodding all to Ash of going inside the cave, which they proceed to do so. Ash follows inside, but it was also getting to be a little chilly inside. Oh, how warm the day was before then which Ash primarily enjoyed, but now sitting inside the cold, dark cave for shelter.
It has been 10 minutes with Ash and the Pokémon stuck inside of the cave while the rain tries to passes by, unfortunately, that won't happen anytime soon. Ash looks at the rain dropping down each and every minute with loud, thundering sounds being heard throughout the forest, and echoing inside the cave. The boy is still very much drenched, but after a few minutes, the cold air inside the cave begins to make his hair and clothes dry. He looks back at the Pokémon who were staring at him of his presence, with nothing else they can do while the rain occurs.
"You know, I don't often interact with Pokémon a lot whenever I'm outside. My mommy and daddy want to make good friends with people, but sometimes, I find that a little difficult myself." Ash begins to speak up. The Pokémon were intrigued by the start of his speech. "My daddy's the famous Kanto champion. He always makes great teamwork with his Pokémon. I've seen his battles, and someday, I want to become great friends with Pokémon." The Pokémon were pleasant to hear Ash's speech as a whole. "That's what I should do when I get older…become a Pokémon Trainer. I just wanna be like daddy. Become the very best, he says." From that point on, Ash knew what his future goal was: He wants to follow the same path as his father, becoming a future Champion. To be the very best like no one ever was. That's the goal Ash Ketchum wants to make. Upon looking into that dream, Ash started to get sleepy.
"Poke…mon Train…I want…to…become….a trainer." Ash's eyes began to become fully closed as he tired himself out from all the energy being used for the day. The Pokémon observe him and watch him sleep every passing minute while the rain clears up. It can be a wonder of what he's dreaming about…
Hours later…
"Ash?! Is he in there?!" A woman can be heard from the nearby distance outside. Ash slowly opens his eyes with his name being heard. He then gains a little faint vision of his surroundings. He wakes up silently to get an idea to know what's going on. Still, he's in the same cave as before, but what's coming to his senses is the female voice which sounds to be his mother.
"Ash!"
"Mommy?" Ash looks around and notices the rain stopped while he was asleep and it was beginning to shine bright again. Delia runs inside the cave and sees her son residing inside.
"ASH!" The caring mother quickly hugs her son, and a little more tighter than usual upon the excitement seeing her son again after being missing for the past few hours. "Oh, I miss you so much!"
"Mommy…" Ash can barely breathe while being held on his mother's clutches.
Delia notices her son's paleness and begins to let go immediately. "Oh, sorry! I've just been worried for you." Despite her happiness, the woman's face begins to turn into a frowning one. "Young man, you shouldn't leave on your own! Me and your idiotic father were so worried for your disappearance!"
"Me? An idiot? That paparazzi were the idiots covering up the view to even notice my son's disappearance." Red walks in the cave and retorts to Delia.
"Oh, please! For 10 minutes, you were signing a bunch of autographs to everyone around you, and even have a few women make a move on you. If I didn't have to go around to find our son, I'd punch those women's faces!" Delia snapped back.
"Okay, calm down, honey. We found our son, that's what matters most and we even had the police to help us." Red said, as an Officer Jenny walks into the cave and talks with the parents.
"Did you find your child?" Officer Jenny asked.
"Yes! In here! Thank you so much, Officer Jenny!" Delia praised the officer.
"Always a pleasure to help our citizens!" Officer Jenny smiled, setting a hand on her forehead.
"Mommy!" Ash called his mother. Delia looks down to her son seemingly to tell her something.
"Yes, Ashy?" Delia asked.
"Look over dere! I saved some Pokmons!" Ash said, pointing over to a little further into the cave. Both parents and Officer Jenny turned around to notice the Pokémon that Ash led into the cave. This work of action intrigues Officer Jenny as she walks to the 4-year old.
"Young child?" Officer Jenny kneels down to Ash. "Did you really helped those Pokémon into this cave as a shelter by yourself while it was raining earlier?"
Ash nods up and down answering Officer Jenny's question. Her eyes were widened a bit. Every day, she helps other people and has the Pokémon world into safety, but she never heard of a kid helping Pokémon into a shelter with bad weather in effect from the past few hours. She is surely impressed with Ash's actions here.
"What's your name, little one?" Officer Jenny asked.
"Ash Ketchum."
"Ash Ketchum, you've done a great job helping out these Pokémon today, and someday, I'm sure you'll become a great Pokémon Trainer with the helping care of Pokémon that you did today!" Officer Jenny said, a pleased tone which makes the raven-haired boy fill himself with a bunch of eagerness inside.
Both Red and Delia are also pleased to hear these words from Jenny that Ash is ready to become a Trainer in several years to come. "Wait, Jenny, really? My little Ashy is ready to become a trainer when he turns 10?"
"Yep! Your son is amazing by that quality of helping other Pokémon in need from a pouring rainstorm. You're such amazing parents from what I can tell, so keep raising him as best as you can, and I'm sure he'll become the greatest Pokémon Trainer ever lived." Officer Jenny said.
"I knew my boy has it in him! I'm so proud of him!" Red said happily. His wife did stop his excitement for a bit.
"BUT, he still walked away from us. Something he shouldn't do while we're looking over him." Delia raised her voice. "I would punish him…but I'm also pleased at the same time of him helping out the Pokémon he found. So, here's what I'm going to do." Delia walks over and kneels down to her son.
"Ashy, you're a great kid, you've always been. You can be a little mischievous at times, but you were quite far away from us and brought yourself in danger." Delia said.
"I sowrry, Mommy." Ash apologized to the caring mother.
"But after hearing what you did today, I suppose that a simple warning can be done here. So please promise both of us that you won't go out of our sight next time?" Delia waged a finger at her son with a slight raised tone in her voice.
"Yes, mommy." Ash promised. The two close in at each other's arms and hugs each other with them showing a caring love as mother and son. Just a few feet away from the two, Red watches the scene with a few tears on his eyes just to see his favorite people in the world have a heartwarming moment together. "Oh, honey, Ash. You're making me tear up."
Delia laughs at her husband's words and walks over to hug him along with a kiss on the cheek. "I love you. I love you and our son."
Ash blushes seeing his parents together. As a kid, Ash always admired his dad. Known to be one of the most famous trainers around, his son looks up to him. After events played out today, Ash knows what he wants to do later when he turns 10, that's when he spoke up to both of his parents. "Mommy, daddy?"
Both parents turn over to their son and listen to his words. "Yes, Ashy?"
"Someday, I wanna be a Trainer, like daddy!" Ash said. This puts a warm smile on his father's face. He is happy enough to learn that his son wants to be in his father's footsteps. The tall man walks over to his son and speaks with him.
"Do you really mean it, champ? You want to become a Pokémon Trainer like your old man here?" Red asked.
"Yea! You're great, daddy. I luv you so much!" Ash walks over and hugs his father to which he returns with his head over Ash's shoulder and the latter on his father's shoulder. Delia watches the two sharing a proud father and son moment. After 15 seconds, the two let go of each other's arms. "Okay, son, I think it's time where I begin to give you Pokémon lessons to learn from daddy, so you can be a great trainer like him."
"Yay!" Ash cheered hearing his dad being his teacher to learn of becoming a future trainer.
"You're such a good father. Ash really looks up to you, a lot." Delia said, laying her hand on her husband's shoulder for affection.
"Heh, I'm just proud to see him growing up, and I want to be here every step of the way for him." Red said. "I can't wait to see the day where he turns 10 and he's off on his very own journey." The man takes off his cap and puts it on Ash, whose face is covered due to the large size of the cap. "Remember Ash, I promise I'll be here on your very big day. You're my son and I love you."
"I love you too, daddy." Ash smiled at his father.
And after a heartwarming and touching moment that the family shared, they decided on heading home after a lot of energy Ash used on a day like this. The scene turns white again as we head back to the present time…
Present Day…
Ash was still fascinated to hear the wonderful story that his mother told him about the inspiring tale of him wanting to become a Pokémon Trainer.
"And from that day onwards, you were ready to be a Trainer like your father." Delia said, finishing the story.
"Mommy, I still remember that day! It was so cold and very lost!" Ash said, as he covers his blankets around his body to visualize how cold that cave was that he lived in for a few hours.
"I know, sweetie. I still think you shouldn't wander off out of our sight that day, and even at a young age like yours! We were worried about you!" Delia said, as she closed her hands on her son's face and hugged him. "I care about you each day, Ashy! When your father left, it tore me up a lot that he never returned and I'm the single parent of a hyper, currently 7 year old in my house right now." Delia begins to shed some tears from her eyes. "It just makes things more difficult to have me take care of you, and us parents had a good 10 years of being married to each other before I became pregnant with you, and your father stayed with me taking care of the 9 months of pregnancy I had before giving birth to you. He was there the day you were born and he couldn't be any more happier to see you. But he broke a promise…to see you on your special day, when he becomes a trainer."
"Mommy, maybe he'll return—" Ash spoke up before his mother interrupted him.
"No! That man has been away for a long time! I already thought he wouldn't return at all, and he said he would be out for a few hours. Guess what? Not a footstep back in the house. Not even to see me or you." Delia said. Ash drops his head down to look at his blanket in disappointment to hear of his father never returning. His father was the one person he looked up to, and him not returning was something he didn't want to hear.
"I'm sorry, honey. I know even if he's away, he'd still love you, but that won't make me forgive him after leaving for a few years without telling me. I don't think I love your father the same way that I used to when we first dated. Things are really not the same anymore without him, and you have to remember that." Delia said, as she finishes her speech.
"I understand, mommy." Ash said, with a disappointed tone.
"Now, please promise me something as well." Ash looks up to his mother, grabbing his attention to hear. "Promise me that you won't make my job as a mother more difficult with your father gone. Is that clear?"
"Yes, mommy. I'll behave better." Ash said, making the promise that will be sure to mold him into a maturing trainer in the future. Delia makes a warming smile to her son, lays her hand on his cheek and kisses the other cheek.
"Good. Now please come downstairs for breakfast, and then come with me to help out at the restaurant. Maybe you'll feel happy helping out your mommy, won't you?"
"Yes, mommy! I love you so much!" Ash said, as he excitedly jumps off his bed and runs downstairs to grab his food to munch down.
Delia hurries out of his room to see him running down the stairs and shouts out to him. "No running down! Didn't I tell you that before?"
"Sorry." Ash said, with his voice lower than usual since he's already down at the lower level of the house.
Delia walks back into his room and she puts her hand over her heart as she goes into her head thinking of her son. "Oh Ash, You're my son, and I'll stay with you every step of the way and be here for your 10th birthday. I'll do a better job as a single parent than with your father leaving me. I won't give up until the end until I see you as a grown boy." Delia closes the door of her son's room and proceeds to meet her son downstairs in the kitchen area for breakfast.
