The sound of a gentle guitar melody cut across the night and a solitary young man with blue hair looked out at the sea stretching out beyond the beach.
There was nothing to suggest that the young man was anything other than what he appeared to be. No wings, no horns, no leathery skin. Just a normal human being playing a guitar into the night. Only a closer look at his eyes revealed his true nature. Instead of a normal pair of human eyes, his eyes were a pair of cyan blue reptilian eyes.
A long black, serpentine dragon landed on the beach, a long, elongated eel-like creature with long, sharp whiskers that gleamed like swords. The young man continued to play, unfazed by the massive creature in front of him.
"Hello Kagami," he said and the creature smiled at him. He smiled back as he continued to play. "Won't you change into your human form?"
"It would be better if you were to assume your dragon form," Kagami replied. "I have something that I wish to show you."
The young man raised an eyebrow and Kagami looked shyly away. It was kind of endearing really, watching her blush.
"It is...complicated and best appreciated from the air. It is something that I would like you to see Luka."
Luka put his guitar down and stood up. Musical notes surrounded him, forming a cocoon around him as his body changed. His head became sharp and narrow. Scales replaced skin and his hands and feet were replaced by claws. A pair of wings emerged from his back, slowly unfurling to reveal their massive length.
Finally, he emerged from his cocoon, no longer human, but a massive blue dragon with long, slim wings and a slightly wider chest.
Kagami smiled, but unlike her usual smile, it remained on her face.
"Follow me," she said brusquely, before taking to the sky, twirling her body into the air on the currents of air. Luka stretched out his own wings and took off after her.
Luka watched as Kagami glided through the night sky. Her flight was elegant and beautiful, much like her. Her scales gleamed in the moonlight and her whiskers gleamed, but it was her elegant movements that was truly magnificient. Unlike every other dragon that Luka knew, Kagami danced across the sky. It was like watching a song come to life, her heartsong given dragon form. He could watch her for an eternity and not get bored.
His own wings beat powerfully through the sky and soon he found himself flying over a beach in an isolated cove. A few pennants flew from nearby poles. Pennants of red and gold, the Tsurugi family crest clearly shown in their centre. There was no doubt as to who's territory he was in.
She lazily circled around the cove and gestured to the ground. He looked down and almost gasped in surprise.
It was a drawing in the sand. An amazing piece of art. A picture of Luka in his human form playing his guitar. Despite being only a sketch in sand, she had somehow managed to capture his very essence in that single piece. It was amazing.
"I know that I am not talented as a creativity dragon. That I am a sword dragon, not an artist like yourself or your sister, but please accept my humble offering. I know that it is inadequate and I apologise and-"
"It's amazing," Luka said as he hovered in place. "You are really talented Kagami. This is a treasure beyond measure."
"You are too kind, but thank you," she said and he smiled at her.
"I mean it Kagami. You're really talented," he said and Kagami shook her head.
"I am no creative dragon like Marinette. I am a sword dragon and sword dragons are not artists. All know that," she said and Luka shook his head.
"That just makes your art all the more amazing," Luka said as he began to descend towards the beach. "You're not an artistic dragon, but still you have become a talented artist. That's amazing, just like you."
Kagami's scales flickered, a sign of both pleasure and embarrassment, much to Luka's pleasure. It was actually cute, seeing his usually stoic girlfriend showing signs of being flustered and pleased at the same time. It was a rare occurrence, but it was beautiful nonetheless. If they had been human, he would have been tempted to kiss her.
She flicked him with her whiskers. The gentle tap of a lover and not the aggressive flicker of a challenger. He grinned and flicked his whiskers back at her and the two dragons smiled.

Luka frowned as he looked at the towering smoking vents in front of him. They seemed to mock him and it was maddening. He knew what he wanted to compose. It was simplicity itself really. He was hardly an inexperienced young dragon who had never played the Singing Vents. He knew them almost as well as he knew his guitar and he knew what he wanted to compose.
He just couldn't make it all come together properly. Every time he tried, everything he made was not good enough. Kagami deserved the best. A masterpiece that fitted her. A treasure beyond measure.
"You're overthinking this, you dork," Juleka said from her perch as she watched him. Luka raised an eyebrow at her and her scales flickered from black to purple to black again with amusement. "You're so busy being a love struck dork, you can't see what you want to compose."
"How do you know about Kagami? And what makes you think that I'm thinking about her?" he asked and Juleka rolled her eyes.
"You know we can see you two flying away together. And you have that dopey look on your face that you get whenever you think about her that we can see from the air." She paused and smirked. "Even Rose and I were less obvious."
"Nobody could have been more obvious than you and Rose," Luka said with a smirk and Juleka's scales flickered with pleasure and embarrassment. "Your weakness for a certain small pink and blond dragon was obvious to everyone."
"Well that's because she's kind and beautiful and sweet and amazing and cute and..." Juleka's eyes became distant as she drifted into Rose land and waves of purple and black rolled across her body. Luka chuckled with amusement and Juleka smiled. "Anyway, like I said, you're too busy being a love struck dork to see what you want to compose. When I composed my lovesong for Rose on the Singing Vents, I did what you're doing now." She leaned forward and looked Luka in the eye. "Then mama reminded me of something important." Juleka leaned forward. "She reminded me that the Singing Vents are meant to played TOGETHER."
Luka frowned.
"That's not the same," he grumbled. "Rose is a musical creative dragon. She knows how to make music. It's in her blood and in her magic. Kagami is a sword dragon. They don't have the same instincts for creativity that we do. You know that."
"You're being a dork," Juleka said with a smirk. "She obviously has an appreciation of your music." Juleka paused and looked thoughtful. "Probably a good thing in your case. She has to move in very specific ways when she's fighting. And I am willing to bet that she has a creative streak in there. That's all you need."
Luka paused and frowned. While Juleka had a point, Kagami was a sword dragon...who had an artistic streak...maybe it wasn't such a bad idea. Something simple and yet beautiful. A dance of swords amidst the Singing Vents. Or a picture perhaps? Something he knew Kagami would love no doubt. Or at least understand.
"Well?" Juleka said. He could practically hear the smirk in her voice.
"Well what?" he asked, pretending to be oblivious.
"Are you going to thank me for my awesome advice?" she asked with a hint of amusement. He could practically hear her gloating about it.
"Thanks Jules," he said and as he took off, he could practically feel her grin.

"What is this place?" Kagami asked as she looked down at the Singing Vents and Luka smiled. He nodded to the vents as they stood there tall and imposing, jets of colourful gasses emerging from them.
"These are the Singing Vents," Luka explained. "Creative dragons like my family use them to express romantic love. A melody played between two dragons in harmony to make music."
"Sword dragons have something similar," Kagami said, before frowning slightly. "But ours is a kata. A shared pattern of blades and techniques, signifying our connection, our shared ability to fight together without words and our strength together as warriors." She looked at him with an impassive face. But he could see tears beginning to form in her eyes. "Are you...implying that we are incompatible? Is this to indicate that we are too different?"
Luka shook his head.
"That's not it." He pointed a wing at the vents. "The kata you spoke of. Have you thought of one for us?"
"I..." She hesitated, almost as though she was unsure of what to say and her scales flickered with shyness. It was so very not like her. "I have. Since the second time we met. I...my instincts told me that it was a good idea."
Luka smiled. It was about the same time he had composed her heart song. It was actually cute.
"I know that it was a premature move on my part," she said, looking embarrassed. "But... I felt that it was...right."She paused and looked at him. "And I never hesitate."
"Do it now," he said, before nodding to the vents. "Through the vents."
"Are you...sure?" Kagami asked, uncertainty in her voice. "I would not wish to-"
"It's your half of our song," he said, giving what he hoped was an encouraging smile. "It belongs, I'm sure of it."
She smiled and began to fly the kata between the Singing Vents. The tune, while not particularly complexed or technically brilliant, was, in his opinion, the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. Spreading his own wings, he took to the sky and began to play with her.
