The detectives headed out to Belle Haven to liaise with the Police Department there while Cal and Gillian headed back to the lab to update their team on the new discovery and to debrief on everything they knew so far.

After a quick stop over where they updated Loker with the new information so that he could see about digging into any missing persons cases that might be relevant, Cal and Gillian headed to Virginia to catch up with Wallowski and take a look at the victim before they moved her to the county morgue.

The crime scene was swarming with police, and a number of local news stations were beginning to gather in greater numbers. Both Belle Haven and Baltimore PD were preparing to brief the press.

Detective Hamed met Cal and Gillian at the outskirts of the scene, Cal having called Wallowski when they arrived. The young detective led them to the scene where the body lay.

The woman's body was fully clothed. There was blood on parts of her lower body and hands, but very little on her clothing. Her face, frozen in death, showed lingering traces of pain and fear although her passing had smoothed out her features. The detectives and crime scene analysts believed that there had been no signs of violent struggle, although the woman had been clothed post-mortem. There were, however, signs of trauma to the body. They would remove the victim that evening once they were satisfied that the scene had been fully documented, and a post-mortem examination would be conducted first thing the next morning. This was now a cross jurisdiction investigation, and the scope of the search had expanded significantly. There was nothing further that the Lightman Group could do but wait until the next day, for more news, for more leads, and for more people to speak with.

Feeling downhearted they returned to the car to begin the journey back to D.C.

"You mind dropping me back to yours to pick up my car?", Gillian asked, prompting a confused look from Cal in her direction. She elaborated, "It'll save you having to pick me up in the morning, we can meet at the Group and head out together then after we brief the team".

"What are you talking about?", Cal returned, perturbed at the suggestion. "Why can't you just stay over again? We'll head out together in the morning. You've plenty of clean clothes still, love."

Gillian looked at him, kindly exasperated, expecting him to register something before she spoke again. "It's Wednesday, Cal".

"So?"

"Daddy-daughter day?", she continued with a fondness at his term. "Tonight's your Emily night."

"Yeah, but she'll understand. I told her we have a case going on. She's not expecting anything tonight. Come home. Please? I don't want you alone after seeing that", Call pleaded his case with a practiced wide-eyed boyishness.

Gillian was unrelenting. She was more devoted to Daddy-daughter day than either participant, insisting that she didn't ever want to take away from their time together.

"Em doesn't mind, love. She likes having you around. She thinks you should be there all the time", he added the last part with an attempt at subtlety that translated more into manipulation as far as Gillian was concerned.

With amusement at his increasingly unsubtle efforts she asked, "And you know that for a fact, huh?"

"I do actually", he looked at her nervously before turning his attention back to the road and dropping the next revelation, "It's been discussed. She wants to redecorate to make you feel more at home", he laughed out nervously. "I'm all for it, by the way… the redecorating".

Gillian didn't know what to say. She stared at him long enough to make it uncomfortable, a little shocked that this was an active discussion point between father and daughter.

"She's off to college next year, Gill. She'll still be around, but she doesn't want me to be alone. And she likes having you there. You're not stealing anything from us, or intruding on us, darling. You belong there. With us."

"You need your time together. Like you said, she's planning on moving out for college soon. And she needs space too you know; she has college applications to send off and SATs to study for. This is such an important school year for her. And you need all the time you can get together before she goes", she hesitated then. Because really, she wanted the same thing he did. "We can talk about it though, a little more… you don't think it's a bit soon?"

"Do you?", he asked her with worry. "I think, if it feels right then its right. We know that we work now. We know that we're better together. And I know that I'd love to live with you. My place makes sense, but I get that you love your place. If you need more time, or you want to wait, or you just want to keep your own space, I understand. I'm happy, Gill. I can keep things as they are. But I would love to have you live with us. And as for Em, who is it that she's asking for help with all those applications? Who is it that she goes to for advice on these things? Because God knows she's not really listening to her mum and me."

"I'll think about it. But I want you to talk to Emily again. And I want you to take tonight together. I'll be fine."

He looked to her with a smile and a nod, and while they were stopped at a light he dialled his daughters' number, putting her on the car speaker system.

"Alright love, you at home?"

"Yeah dad. Everything ok?"

"Yeah, we're done for tonight. On the way home. Order some food in, would you love?"

"Sure. What do you guys want?"

Gillian was beginning to suspect a set up from Cal's side. She motioned to intervene in the conversation before Cal hurriedly continued, "whatever you fancy, darling. Gillian was thinking of heading back to hers though. It's Wednesday, you know", he finished, patronisingly. Gillian's stare would have withered a lesser man, but he smirked at her with determination, leaving the next step up to Emily who remained blissfully unaware that she was somehow taking sides here.

"What? Why? You guys have to head out again early tomorrow, right? Gillian, your car is in our drive, don't be ridiculous, you should stay here tonight. Daddy-daughter day can wait, besides we have 'quality time' when you're here too, y'know", Emily blurted out the caring words so casually, as though she had no idea how they would impact Gillian. She looked at Cal helplessly begging him not to make fun of her for the swell of emotion his daughter had stirred in her. Cal simply smiled at her with genuine delight for both the words and the reaction they caused.

"Thank you darling, we'll see you in about half an hour. If you change your mind and want to throw Gill out when we get there, don't be shy about it yeah? You've already made her cry.", he ended the call with that, laughing at the exasperated punch to the arm that came his way.

"I'm gonna kill you, I swear to God Cal"
