So with Fuwa joining the team, now it's Momoko's turn, and I have a good idea of where I wanna go in this chapter with her willingness to protect family, much like Souta and his sister had their issues. So let's do this! (flicks a fan open and covers the screen with it)
Disclaimers: I don't own Pretty Cure, as all the rights go exclusively to Toei for that brand. This is a fanmade series for entertainment purposes only.
Nikki here, and it looks like we're kinda in a pinch! On the plus side, we have a new team member in Fuwa-chan with her becoming Cure Hood, but on the minus side, we don't know where Oniki landed after the Akumumon smacked him away! Let's just hope someone found him and kept him safe!
Meanwhile, Oniki was waking up to a smell that was wafting through the air as he sat up and sniffed the delectable aroma. "Smells nice - kiji..." He saw Momoko passing through the hallway and blinked curiously, thinking back and remembering the previous night. "Oh yeah!" He got up and tried to fly over, but... "OUCH!"
He dropped to the ground face first. "Ow ow ow ow..." He looked at his left side, seeing his wing covered in bandages.
Momoko peeked inside the room and smiled as she saw Oniki. "Looks like someone's up already." She walked in, carrying a plate of omurice and sitting down, cutting the meal in half so she could share it with him as she spoke, "You really need to watch yourself with that wing. Whatever smacked you really hit you hard. From what I could tell, you have a couple of broken bones in that wing. It's nothing serious, but I'd advise against using it for a while."
Oniki listened to her and smiled before he nodded and accepted his half of the omurice.
Momoko bowed her head and clapped her hands together, Oniki following her lead as the human spoke: "Let's eat!"
Oniki leaned his head down and took a bite of the omurice, getting a good taste of the culinary concoction and smiling. "So good - kiji!"
Momoko chuckled and smiled. "Glad you like it! It's an old family recipe for omurice!"
Oniki blinked slightly before he looked at her. "You... you're not creeped out by me talking - kiji?"
"Hm?" She looked at him and shrugged slightly. "Oh, not really. Momotaro made friends with a pheasant, didn't he? To me, this feels no different." She took a bite of omurice and smiled at him.
The pheasant fairy blinked slightly before he nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense - kiji." He ate some more omurice and smiled back at her. "But I'm not just an ordinary pheasant - kiji. I'm actually a fairy from Story World - kiji."
She blinked slightly before she smiled eagerly. "That's so cool! I've heard of Story World from the old tales my dad told me! What's it like there? What does everyone do? What do they look like?"
He chuckled and smiled just as eagerly. "I'd love to tell you - kiji!" He started regaling her with the stories of the land as the young samurai listened eagerly.
Suddenly, a man walked into the room. "Momoko! Make sure the temple is cleaned up today, alright? I know you're in training, but you can't just sit around and make idle chitchat all day!"
Momoko looked over and nodded with a smile. "No problem, Papa. The temple should be ready by the time I get the tea ready as well."
The man nodded and noticed Oniki. "Seems you're already making friends." He looked at her again. "Friends will only bring you down. A true samurai should have vassals! Remember that!" With that last sentence, he left the room.
Momoko huffed slightly and looked at Oniki. "Sorry about him. He always focuses on his samurai lineage and being a true samurai. It's not what I want in life." She drank her tea silently.
Oniki looked at her sadly. "Momoko-san..." He tried to think of how to help her.

Chapter 4: Cure Momotaro's Epic Tale!
A couple hours later and a few blocks away, the heroes were searching for Oniki as Nikki called out, "HEY! ONIKI! WHERE ARE YOU, BUDDY??"
Cinder flew back over to Nikki. "I don't see him anywhere - dechu." She looked down sadly. "I hope he hasn't been captured by Darke - dechu..."
"Don't talk like that!" Nikki snapped at her, getting the little mouse to look at the Green Cure. "We'll find him and we'll make sure he's safe! I promise you that!"
Cinder looked at her in surprise. "Nikki-san..." She smiled and nodded to her. "You're right! Let's keep searching! We're bound to find him somewhere - dechu!" She headed down the street with Nikki following her.
At the castle, Queen Darke sat on the throne, looking tense as she watched the previous day's battle.
Sparking Toy was kneeling in front of her, his head down. "I'll be honest, my queen. I had no idea that the scared little mangaka was going to be that brave."
Darke didn't respond, seeming to be curious about what the Cures could be capable of.
S.T. bit his lip nervously, waiting for her answer.
Finally, the queen spoke to him, "It's quite alright, Sparking Toy." She looked at the young man's surprised visage. "I suppose other Cures appearing can't be helped by this point. We'll just have to test their fortitude in combat. See if they're strong enough to battle Black Swan. But I'd rather wait until their little group gels together first."
Thunder Horn walked over to them and pounded his fist against his chest. "With your permission, my lady, I'd like to test the new Cures next."
Darke nodded to Thunder and created an Akumumon Book in front of him. "Gather some negative energy as you do so. Once we have enough of it to complete the Book of Negativity, I can regain my true form, and then darkness shall truly spread across both this land and the Earth!" She laughed wickedly.
Back with the group, they had met up at the intersection as Merlin shook his head. "We looked everywhere."
Kairi wiped the sweat from her forehead. "I hope he's ok though..."
Souta heard the temple bells and looked over. "Oh yeah!" He looked at the others. "The one place we haven't looked yet! Come on!" He started running down the street.
"Wait up!" Cinder followed him, the rest of the group following behind straight afterwards.
When the gang finally caught up to the two, they saw an amazing sight before them; the Torii gate had multiple tassels and written wishes on the talismans that hung from their nails.
Nikki looked in amazement. "Whoa... I've only moved here like a month ago and this is the first time I've ever seen anything like this."
Souta looked at her and smiled. "Well, Torii gates are pretty common in Japan. It's an entrance for a Shinto shrine. Each area around here serves to act towards a certain God. In this case, this shrine is the Temple dedicated to Tsukuyomi." He pointed out the symbols that marked it as such.
Nikki nodded a bit and smiled. "I see."
"Hey, guys!" A familiar shout caught their attention as Momoko came out to them, wearing a shrine maiden outfit as she smiled. "What brings you here?"
"Oh hey, Momoko-senpai!" Souta waved to her and turned to her as she came close. "We were looking for one of our friends. He got hit by one of those crazy monsters yesterday. It was pretty far, so we were trying to figure out where he was."
"Don't worry, guys." Oniki walked out to them in human form with a bandage around his forehead and a splint around his left arm where his broken bones were. "Momoko found me and she patched me up well."
Momoko nodded a bit. "Anyway, do you guys wanna come in? I was just about to start the tea ceremony with my dad."
Nikki blinked slightly. "Tea ceremony?"
Souta nodded to Nikki. "It's extremely common for the samurai families."
Momoko nodded. "Come on. I'll show you guys what I mean." She and Oniki lead the way, the remaining seven following them after a moment.
As they walked in, they removed their shoes and walked inside, sitting within the tea room as Nikki took the time to observe the area. "Impressive, Momo-chan."
Momoko looked up and nodded. "Yeah, it's not all bad, but... sometimes I feel a bit smothered by his values."
"It's only because he's trying to see the best in you, Momoko-senpai." Fuwa smiled and placed a hand on her friend's hand. "He believes you can be a wonderful person, even you don't have vassals."
Momoko huffed slightly and removed Fuwa's hand. "You don't know my dad like I do, trust me. Being born into a lineage of legendary samurais ain't all its cracked up to be. So many performances and showing off for the public can drive a girl nuts sometimes."
Souta nodded a bit and sat down on his knees. "Well, I'm sure he's got a good reason for his actions."
Nikki smiled and nodded as she sat on her knees as well. "Yup! All you need to do is try to understand him better."
Momoko huffed and started mashing the tea leaves.
Kairi looked at the others. "I don't think this is helping, guys."
Nikki laughed nervously, rubbing her neck slightly.
A second later, Mr. Taroshin walked into the room and saw the guests. "Oh, Momoko. You should have told me you were inviting people."
Momoko looked over. "Papa, they were looking for their friend. I thought it was only polite that I invite them for tea."
Mr. Taroshin smiled slightly. "Well, I suppose it can't be helped." He walked over and sat next to Momoko as he looked at the others. "I'm Lord Takamichi Taroshin."
Nikki smiled a bit. "It's an honor to meet you, sir. "I'm Nikki Kamihime."
Takamichi looked at her and smiled. "Ah, so you're the half American girl I've heard about from my little peach. It must've been hard with a childhood like yours."
Nikki chuckled lightly. "Indeed. I had my moments."
Takamichi nodded and placed his cup down. "Well, just know you're quite welcome to come to the temple whenever you wish."
Nikki nodded and looked at Momoko before she sipped her tea and looked at the older man again. "If I may ask, sir, why do you push Momoko so hard to become a better samurai? Why push her down a path she might not want to take?"
Takamichi regarded her question calmly. "It has been the way of my family for many generations to be a samurai who takes things seriously. The more serious the child is at a young age, the better they become with their discipline. Momoko takes things much less seriously than I did at her age. She prefers to see the vassals that serve under our family as her friends and I will admit, she acts so much like our ancestor."
Momoko set her cup down. "Maybe it's because I actually like having friends and a good support balance to keep my sanity in check. Or did you never think of that, Father?"
Souta and Fuwa paled as soon as Momoko said that and spoke in terrified unison. "BAD IDEA TO SPEAK LIKE THAT!!"
Takamichi looked at Momoko angrily. "What's that supposed to mean, young lady?!"
Momoko glared back at him. "You know exactly what that's supposed to mean! Me going to school and studying hard so I can prove myself to you?! Understandable! Me keeping up with my skills as a samurai?! Understandable!! But denying me the chance to have friends because you were raised so strictly?! THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT!!! SOMETIMES I WISH I COULD LIVE A NORMAL LIFE!!! BUT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOU CONSTANTLY PUSHING ME TO BE SERIOUS WITH MY DEDICATION!! AND I'M SICK OF IT!!" She got up and stormed out of the room.
"Momo-chan! Wait!" Nikki got up quickly and ran out after her as most of the others followed, save for Kairi.
Kairi sighed softly and looked at Takamichi, who was looking at the ground silently. "I understand how you feel, Lord Taroshin. My family was pretty strict with me as well, but I suppose it couldn't have been helped that I was a little rebellious. My rebellion caused my best friend to be controlled by darkness, and I've never forgiven myself for that since."
Takamichi nodded a bit, his inner story darkening a bit with the ink blot that was unknown to himself, but not Kairi.
(Eyecatch: Nikki, Souta, Fuwa, and Momoko are reading books together before the fairies drop and transform into their human forms, landing on their respective partners before the eight of them laugh off the fall as the logo appears in the corner.)
Momoko ran out to the training grounds and let tears fall, dropping to her knees and clutching her garments slightly. "Why can't he see me being normal? Why?"
"Momoko-senpai!" Souta and the others ran out to her as he knelt by her side. "Are you alright?"
Momoko wiped her tears away and became stoic as she looked at him. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Ya sure about that?" Nikki looked at her in disbelief. "Cause I doubt that outburst was for nothing."
Momoko got up and drew her sword. "It's just that .. ever since I was a kid, Papa's been wanting me to do things his way! Do everything the way he thinks a samurai should do it! Why can't he see I have a different method of doing things?!" She started slashing a training dummy, growing more frustrated by the second with each slash. "Why can't he see the real me for what I AM?!" She slashed off the dummy's head with her final swing.
Nikki frowned slightly and looked at her. "Momo-chan... "
Fuwa walked over to Momoko and gave her a hug. "It's alright, Momoko-san."
Momoko looked at Fuwa in surprise. "Fuwa-san?"
Fuwa looked up at her with a smile. "Everyone regarded me as a shy bookworm, and for a while since moving here, that was the long and short of it, so much so that I started believing it myself. But when Nikki-san came to school, she opened me up to having friends again, and since I became friends with her and Souta-kun, I haven't looked back once. Everyone is a little different from what they're brought up as, but it ultimately comes down to if the person can see themselves as the real deal."
Momoko thought over the words she had heard; maybe there was a good point to it. Maybe her father saw her seriousness wasn't all bad. "Maybe..."
All of a sudden... "AKUMUMON!!!" "ARGH!!!"
Kairi flew out of the house, landing by the group as she looked battered and beaten.
"Sensei!!" Nikki and Souta ran over to help her, but they stopped as they saw an Oni themed Akumumon stomp out of the house from the tea room.
Momoko saw the Akumumon. "What the hell?!"
Oniki looked up in surprise. "An Akumumon!"
Nikki immediately took charge. "Oniki, Momo-chan! Get Sensei to safety!"
Oniki nodded. "You got it!" He ran over and grabbed Kairi with his good hand, Momoko helping him out as they carried Kairi to safety.
Nikki faced the Akumumon courageously. "Souta-kun, Fuwa-chan! Let's transform!"
Souta nodded. "Okay!"
Fuwa nodded as well. "Got it, Nikki-san!"
The fairies transformed and landed in their partners' hands respectively.
(Cue BGM: Pretty Cure, Princess Engage w/o BG chorus)
In a tricolored void, Nikki, Fuwa, and Souta locked their Pretty Books onto their swords, their hair coming free and their clothes disappearing into their standby outfits. "Pretty Cure, Start my Story!" They crossed their arms before opening their respective books, the respective images glowing and activating the transformations.
They grabbed their pens before Nikki drew her heart, Fuwa her crescent moon, and Souta drew his shield, the three flying off and allowing their respective items to flow around their bodies as they gained their gloves, shoes, socks, outfits, and accessories.
Nikki then drew her crown into existence and placed it on her head, her hair changing and her eyes becoming a sea green with her lipstick appearing as Souta drew his side feathers in and caught them, flicking his bangs up as his hair changed and smirking slightly with his purple eyes and red lip gloss appearing and Fuwa drew her wolf symbol, tapping it and gaining her hair style and wolf ears and tail, opening her eyes to become a ruby red and matching lip gloss appearing on her lips before they took their pre-finisher poses.
The Pretty Books landed in their owners' bags before they landed and bowed or curtsied, the background changing into a field of flowers as they straightened up and blinked, their eyes shimmering in unison.
"The shining elegance of a princess!" Nikki shouted as she swung her sword in a heart shape and held it down, swinging it up and running her hand down the blade before she jumped into her final pose of a brave fencer. "Cure Royal!"
"The sparkling courage of a knight!" Souta shouted as he swung his sword in a shield shape and held it down, swinging it up and running his hand down the blade before he relaxed into his final pose reminiscent of Sailor Uranus. "Cure Knight!"
"The unifying call of the wolf!" She shouted as she swung her sword in a crescent moon shape and held it down, swinging it up and running her hand down the blade before she posed like a cat girl. "Cure Hood!"
They crossed their blades together. "Our three stories unite to protect and create the future!" They each passed by the camera and did a team pose. "Wonder Story Pretty Cure!"
(End BGM)
"AKU!!" The Akumumon swung its sword at the trio, prompting them to block with their blades.
"Hood!" Royal looked at her fellow female.
Hood nodded and jumped up, dashing up the Akumumon's arm, but it noticed her and tried punching her with its free hand.
Hood jumped to dodge the attack and roundhouse kicked it in the helmet, wincing slightly as she felt the reverberating effect. "Ow!"
She landed on the ground as Howl asked her, "Hood, are you okay - lobo?"
Hood nodded. "Yep! But that samurai armor is gonna be tough to get through!"
Knight landed by her side. "Then we need to find its weak point! We do that, and we've got a better chance of beating it."
Hood nodded a bit and jumped out of the way with Knight as they avoided another attack.
Meanwhile, Royal was blocking sword strike after sword strike, sliding back with each attack. "I can't get through to make a hit!"
Momoko looked out from behind the tree and saw the Akumumon battling the trio, recognizing the style and gasping slightly. "That footwork... don't tell me!" She bolted out of hiding quickly.
Oniki noticed and tried to stop her. "Momoko, wait!"
Back at the fight, Hood hopped up and readied a few energy claws. "Pretty Cure Fanged Explosion!" She launched them at the Akumumon, but it simply blocked her attacks and sent them back at her.
"Uh-oh!" Hood tensed and was ready for impact, but Knight blocked the attack with his energy shield.
The Red Cure looked at him. "Thanks!"
The two landed by Royal and panted slightly as they looked at the Oni Akumumon.
"It's like it's a true samurai!" Royal huffed out.
As it advanced on them, they got ready to fight again, but suddenly Momoko stopped in front of them and looked at the Akumumon. "Stop it, Papa! Don't hurt my friends!"
They looked at her in surprise as they spoke in turn. "Momoko-san's dad was..." "... turned into an Akumumon?!" "PLOT TWIST!!"
Momoko focused hard and listened to her father's voice from the Akumumon's heart: "Momoko... I thought I was training you properly... I'm sorry I pushed you too far..."
Momoko smiled sadly. "No, Dad. I should be the one apologizing. I took a sledgehammer and used it to crack a nut by shouting at you. You're just trying to educate me in your own way. But what if our ways can cross for the better? What if my friends can also become my most loyal allies? Because what is a samurai lord without his loyal vassals to help protect him and ensure their lord helps them in return?"
Takamichi looked up at Momoko through the pseudo window and smiled. "Maybe so... my little peach..." He yelled in agony as his book was pushed to become darker.
Royal looked around. "Whoever did this has to be around here somewhere!"
"How about right here?" Knight heard a deep voice speaking before he blocked a punch in time, sliding back a few feet as Thunder Horn stood there, having had been the one to throw the punch.
Hood looked at him in surprise. "You're...!"
Thunder smirked at her. "That's right, little wolf. I am Thunder Horn, general to Queen Darke and purveyor of strength. I prefer to seek out the strongest of the heroes to battle and let my Akumumons rampage about."
Momoko's hand gripped her katana tightly. "Is that right, bull man?"
Everyone directed their attention to the young samurai as her fists shook and her head hung low.
"Then you're the one who turned my father into a monster, unwillingly and unjustly. Using his negativity against my friends for your nefarious purposes? Something like that..." She looked at Thunder furiously. "... SHALL NEVER BE FORGIVEN BY ME!!"
Responding to her actions, the same light from the first three Cures' appearance shone once again.
Nikki looked in surprise. "Momo-chan!"
Momoko saw the Pretty Book flying to her and caught it, looking at it as the pink and silver cover appeared with the title of Momotaro's Adventure. "So it's my turn now..." She nodded a bit and held out her free hand. "Oniki, come!"
"Okay!" Oniki dashed over, transforming into his sword form and landing in Momoko's free hand.
She turned back to Thunder Horn. "Prepare yourself, Thunder Horn! For a new legend starts now!"
(Cue BGM: Pretty Cure, Princess Engage w/o BG chorus)
Momoko placed the Pretty Book in the open slot and held her sword out as her clothes dispersed into a bright pink kimono silhouette, her hair popping out of the bun and hanging down in the process. "Pretty Cure, Start my Story!" She moved her hand around and flipped the cover open to show a silver peach leaf shape on the inside page.
Drops of juice drizzled past Momoko as she grabbed a glowing pen and drew a peach shape, sending it off in several leaves that encircled the area and swirled around her body at the arms, legs, and torso as she spun around slightly and posed like a miko.
More juice drops landed on her hands and pinged into place as bicep length fingerless gloves, following the same pattern with her shoes as they appeared as a scalloped edge pair of heels with a feathered wrap going up to her knees, white socks that stopped just above her knees, and finally making a pink and white dress, the top half being strapless and almost formal as its center had a ruffled line, a white bow with a jewel on it, and pink ruffled sleeves while the bottom half was a pink and peach layer of a skirt that reached her ankles over a white and pink bottom flowing skirt that also reached her ankles, a peach colored collar appearing on her neck and shoulders.
Momoko then drew a peach shape and let it land on her hair with a darker pink bow appearing to tie her hair back as it glowed and grew slightly to become a pink ponytail with a peach colored ombre in the back and pink bangs with peach strips in the front, all before she opened her eyes for them to be more of a lighter pink in color and red lip gloss pinging on to her mouth as she took a calm pose.
A bag appeared on her side as a placeholder for Pretty Books before she landed with one foot in front of the other and did a curtsey, the juice raining down and changing the background to a stylized river as she straightened up and blinked once, her eyes lighting up with a juice filled shine.
"The grand legend of the peach boy!" She shouted as she swung her sword in a peach shape and held it down, swinging it up and running her hand down the blade before she posed like a real samurai. "Cure Momotaro!"
(End BGM)
Hood smiled excitedly. "She transformed!"
Knight was just as excited. "Cure Momotaro!"
Royal became starry-eyed. "So cool!!"
Momotaro smirked and let out a haughty laugh. "Looks like we've got a festival, people! Making new ties will connect us all and unite us in the bonds of friendship! So let us join together here and have ourselves a duel!" She charged forward and swung at the Akumumon.
"AKUMU!!" It swung its broadsword at her, but when the blades clashed, it broke easily with her own strength and the bottom flew up, landing behind her.
Thunder Horn was stunned by the strength. "Unbelievable!"
"What strength!" Knight agreed with him.
Momotaro grinned excitedly. "See this? This is nothing, Akumumon. Now I'll show you my power!" She grabbed its fist and swung it around, letting it loose as it slammed into the tree before she laughed again.
Thunder smirked. "Maybe she'll be worth my time." He stomped the ground slightly. "Let's go!" He charged forward, his horns aimed at her.
Royal looked at Momotaro. "Momotaro! Watch out!"
Momotaro just waited patiently until he was inches away from her and at the last second, she grabbed his horns and grappled with him, barely sliding back.
Hood looked in shock. "That's amazing!"
Momotaro grinned at Thunder Horn. "You wanna know what happens when a bull gets grabbed by the horns?!" She jumped over him, pushing him forth and landing behind him.
"WHAT?!?!?" Thunder looked back in shock, not noticing he was running at a tree before he slammed head first into it, getting his horns wedged. "What the?!" He tried getting loose, to no avail.
Momotaro looked up at him, not noticing the Akumumon running at her again until it shouted. "AKUMUMON!!!"
She looked back in surprise, but the others kicked the Akumumon back as they shouted at her in unison: "Momotaro!"
She smiled a bit before she nodded and readied herself as the Akumumon landed hard. "The legend never dies, and neither shall I!"
(Cue BGM: Healing Flower)
Momotaro flipped the Pretty Book to its next page, showing a golden peach with a ribbon on the bottom, before she swung her sword into position diagonal to her body as she called out. "Magic of the Books, I summon you!" A pink light flew to her blade and enveloped it.
She slowly drew her fingers up the blade, charging it into an orb and drawing a peach shape before she swung her sword up. "Pretty Cure Momotaro Slash!" She slashed the peach in half, the light splitting the construct and shooting out at the monster, knocking her back slightly as she let out a shout to charge herself up. "HAAAAAAA!"
The blast impacted the Akumumon in its chest and morphed into a pair of hands that cradled Lord Taroshin gently before bursting out the other side, a bubble appearing around the now peaceful looking man and floating off with him as the Akumumon was left with a pink peach shape in its body as it moaned, "Goodnight..." It faded into the pink light, the Akumumon Book dispersing into black mist.
Momotaro and Oniki posed confidently and looked back as they chorused together: "Happy dreams!"
(End BGM)
Thunder Horn yanked himself out of the tree and smirked at Momotaro. "Not bad, Cure Momotaro. I'll have to remember to test your battle strength against my muscles next time." With that, he teleported away.
In a soft light, the area was magically repaired as if nothing had happened.
As the sun set that evening, Nikki was excited. "AWESOME!!! We've got a full team now!! Absolutely wonderful!!" She hugged Momoko joyously.
Momoko chuckled lightly and smiled at the eager Cure. "Glad to be a part of the team, Nikkun."
Oniki smiled and patted her shoulder. "I'm glad we get to work together, Momoko. You were pretty awesome out there today."
Momoko grinned excitedly as she blushed slightly at the praise. "Well, what better way for a future samurai lord to lead their vassals if they're all friends?"
Meanwhile, Souta was helping Merlin take care of Kairi, both of them looking concerned about the elder woman's health.
Souta checked her pulse and sighed softly. "Well, she's got a strong pulse. That's a relief."
Merlin nodded. "True, but I worry that hit might have damaged her head more than we might realize." He looked at Kairi worriedly.
