It was late in the evening and John Phoenix was seated in his cushy armchair in the living area of the Phoenix & Co. Law Offices. He was looking through a photo album from when he was a baby. Although he aged faster than most babies do, there were lots of photos of him as a baby because everyone kept taking them because he was that impressive of a baby.
Eventually he found a photo of his first day going to school.
"Wow," said John Phoenix. "I remember my first day of school."
John Phoenix's mind flashed back to that day. John Phoenix was standing outside the school building with Mother Mary (Wright).
"Okay John Phoenix have fun at school!" said Mary Wright.
"Okay, Mother. I will have fun at school. I am an obedient boy that does what he's told," said John Phoenix.
"That's a good boy," Mary patted John Phoenix on the head and left. And so John Phoenix walked into the building. The school he had enrolled in was Yoshino High School, famous for being the most Japanese school in America.
But it was not all good things and flowers in the life of John Phoenix. Despite his large IQ number, he did very poorly in school because he suffered from Autism, OCD, and ADD. His disorders made it hard for him to pay attention in class or do his assigned work. It didn't help that the teachers were mean and bad and often quite stupider than John Phoenix. John Phoenix would rather make projects and games in Scratch on the homeroom computer than do what his teachers told him to do. His classmates were likewise inferior to John Phoenix. John Phoenix did not like playing with his classmates. He did not like listening to them. They were simpletons obsessed with submental popular culture and trends which were foreign to John Phoenix's interests. He would rather be by himself.
That is, until he met Himiko Masaki. She had just moved into Yoshino High School shortly after John Phoenix did and she had an interest in one thing only.
"John Phoenix I think you should join the Shinogi Chess Club, they're having a tournament soon!" said Himiko.
"Why," said John Phoenix. "Chess is for nerds that think they're smarter than they actually are."
"Yeah but this is Shinogi Chess. It's for smart people."
John Phoenix didn't realize that. John Phoenix decided to give this Shinogi Chess Club a try.
"Welcome to the club John Phoenix and Himiko Masaki," said the club leader.
"Thanks," said John Phoenix. "I'll be joining the tournament."
"John Phoenix the tournament is only for experienced players," said Himiko. "We have to play a few games here before we join one because we need to practice."
"That's boring and will take too long. I'll just practice in the first round."
So John Phoenix and Himiko were allowed to enter the tournament and their first opponents were each other! John Phoenix was pleased by this because Himiko sucked because she'd never played before so John Phoenix wiped the floor with her.
"You win John Phoenix," said Himiko. "I'm sad to leave so early but I'm happy you'll be able to proceed because you are good."
And she was right. By the time John Phoenix eliminated all of her pieces and captured her king, he fully understood the rules to Shinogi Chess and all the best strategies so that when he made it to the final round he was ready to become the King of Shinogi Chess!
"We shall see about that, John Phoenix," said Frost, and they did see about it because John Phoenix won again!
"Checkmate, sucker," said John Phoenix.
"It can't be! Me, Frost? Defeated! Impossible!"
"Cry about it lmao."
And so John Phoenix won the tournament.
AND THEN HENDRICK TRAY APPEARED!
"Frost you have failed me, prepare to die!" said the young delinquent named Hendrick Tray and he pulled out a gun he smuggled into school and fired it at Frost for failing to win the tournament!
But then John Phoenix stood in the bullet's way! The bullet ricocheted 180 degrees off his student badge just as he calculated and returned straight to Tray's gun, knocking it out of his hand!
"I don't understand John Phoenix! He is your enemy! Why would you defend him?"
"Just because he had the audacity to think he could defeat me in Shinogi Chess Club does mean he deserves to die!" said John Phoenix.
"EGADS, that's true!" said Tray. And then he got cross. He was cross because he planned to take over the school by taking advantage of his friend Frost being the head prefect of the school for winning the tournament and now that was ruined.
"I'll remembered this, John Phoenix," Tray shouted! "Never forget me! Some day I will be back!"
Hendrick Tray ran away. And he was right on one thing. He would return some day. Not that John Phoenix would even remember such an unremarkable terrorist.
