Chapter 6 - Sentenced to Death
Aladdin finally made it back to the palace later that night. However, when he got there, he saw the guard Razul crossing his arms at the doorway.
"Razul," Aladdin addressed. "The sultan's been…"
"Seize him!" Razul shouted. Hakim and Hasim restrained the street rat.
"You are under arrest, by order of the sultan."
"What?" Aladdin replied, confused. "But that can't be."
The guards took him to the throne room, where he forcefully bowed down at the feet of Mozenrath, still wearing the sultan's robe and turban.
"Well, well," Mozenrath greeted. "We meet at last."
"Who are you," Aladdin asked, "and why are you seated on the Royal throne?"
"The new ruler of Agrabah, of course," Mozenrath replied. "Wouldn't you agree, dearest?"
"Of course, Mozenrath," Jasmine's voice rang.
Aladdin gaped.
"Jasmine, what are you…" he started to ask.
"Mozenrath here was appointed sultan while you and father were away," Jasmine replied, walking to Mozenrath. "I figured that he'd be a better suiter than you'll ever be, Aladdin."
"But you barely even…"
"Guards," Mozenrath interrupted, "take the street rat to the dungeon."
The guards raised Aladdin and hauled him away.
"Oh," Jasmine halted. "And have him executed at dawn."
"What?!" Aladdin replied, shocked at what she just said. "No!"
Back at the Land of Black Sand, Mozenrath and Jasmine appeared through a puff of black smoke next to a still-bound sultan and…Jasmine? The Jasmine that wasn't bound sneered at the one that was, then suddenly changed to Jafar, who cackled.
"Oh, you should have seen the look on Aladdin's face," he said, "when 'Princess Jasmine' sentenced him to death."
Jasmine hung her head sadly. "No!"
"Oh, yes," Mozenrath replied. "And then, I can finally have my final wish granted."
"Yes, Mozenrath," Jafar agreed. "Just be sure not to waste it beforehand." He turned to the still-guilty parrot. "Ah, Iago. You betrayed me and allied yourself with my enemies, and you turned on them as soon as it was in your best interests. That's what I love about you. You're so perfectly predictable. A villain through and through."
Jafar patted Iago on the head with his finger. The sultan, Jasmine and Abu glared at him.
At dawn, in the palace dungeon, Aladdin hung his head in defeat, as he was awaiting his punishment.
Razul opened the gate and greeted him, inhaling the fresh morning air.
"Dawn."
Author's Note: I usually end my What If…?-inspired fanfics with six chapters, but this fanfic is the longest I ever did. I have more chapters planned for it.
