Here's the next chapter!
Disclaimer: I do not own Dogtanian. Not at all!
Now, let's resume our story!
Gavin and Dogtania Meet Their Match
"Excuse me monsieur's," Gavin said upon spotting two Muskehounds sitting on the steps of their headquarters upon exiting the building. "Did you happen to see a small lady run by here recently?"
"Why yes monsieur!" One of them replied with a nod. "You just missed her!"
"Shoot! Did you see which way she went?"
"To the front gate monsieur!" The other replied.
"Thank you, messieurs!" Gavin replied with a smile and nod, before he hurried past them towards the front gate. There, he saw that Athos was standing there with a frown on her face, while the guard chuckled. "Excuse me Athos, have you seen Dogtania?" he asked her.
"Grrr, why yes I did!" She said. "She made a fool out of me!"
"How?" He asked her with a tilt of his head.
"Haha! Dogtania revealed that Athos' new baldric doesn't have a back piece!" The guard chuckled, while Athos growled with anger. "No wonder it was so cheap!" he said with another laugh. "And Athos here challenged her to a duel!"
"A duel?!" He repeated with shock. 'She's already gotten a second duel lined up?! Oh boy!' "At what time and where?!"
"At the back of the cathedral at 12:30," Athos said.
'Right after Porthas' duel,' he thought to himself. 'Oh, Dogtania, what are you doing?' "Did you see which way she went?"
"I believe she went that way, monsieur," The guard said to him as he pointed straight ahead.
"Thank you, monsieur," Gavin replied, before he pulled up his hood and hurried down the street.
As he went up and down streets, he searched for Dogtanian, but he had no success, which disappointed him. "Oh, where could she be?" He said, before he heard the bells of the cathedral ring, which then gave him an idea. "Hmmm, I might not know where she is now, but I do know where she will be at noon," he continued, before he hurried towards the cathedral.
Several minutes later…
Porthas was walking through the streets of Paris, her sling no longer on her arm. As she walked, she looked around, as if searching for someone.
"Hey Porthas! Wait a minute!"
"Hm?" Porthas hummed as she turned to her right, before seeing Athos running towards her. Then, Aramis showed up.
"Porthas! Athos!" Aramis said, before the three met.
"One for all and all for one!" The three said, before they looked at each other with surprise.
"I'm glad I found you two. I've got a little problem. There's something I have to do, and I'll need your help," Athos said.
"That's funny! I was going to say the same thing!" Aramis replied.
"Mhm! I also. I need you two to act as my second," Porthas replied.
"What? A duel? I have one too? Huh?" Athos and Aramis said, looking at each other with surprise.
"Mon dieu! The three of us on the same day?" Athos continued.
"Who's your challenger?" Aramis asked Porthas.
"I know this is hard to believe. It's young Dogtania!" Porthas replied.
"What?! That's who I'm fighting!" Athos and Aramis said with shock. "Huh?"
"At what time?"
"Twelve thirty," Athos replied.
"At one!" Aramis said.
"Our duel is set for noon," Porthas replied.
"So she's taking on all three of us, one after the other? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. She's nuts!" Athos said.
"I'll say this, she's certainly a daring young lady," Aramis said.
"I'd say more foolish than daring. And she'll realize that too. Now that she's had time to think it over, she's probably as far away as she can get by now," Athos replied.
"I hope so, but if not we'll have to teach her a lesson," Porthas replied.
"So they're going to fight a duel, ey?" Widimer said to one of his guards who had just come into his chamber.
"Yes sir!" The guard replied.
"You could not have brought me better news!" Widimer said with a smile. "You may go, guardsman. You've done well."
At that, the guard bowed, before he turned and walked away, while another guard watched him.
"Hmmm, good," The foxhound guard said as he headed over to Widimer. "Now you got them just where you want them. They know that dueling is illegal. I'll take up a platoon of guards with me to arrest them immediately." He then started to walk away.
"No, wait!" Widimer said to the man, causing him to stop. "Listen to me. I've got a much better plan! I don't want to interrupt them right now."
"Why not?"
"Let them start the duel as if we knew nothing about it. Then at precisely the right moment, we shall catch them red handed!" Widimer replied.
"Very good," The foxhound guard replied with a nod before he left the room.
"My chance has come! Now I have them!" Widimer said as he crossed his arms and laughed evilly with a grin.
Meanwhile…
The man with the black mustache rode his horse down a narrow alleyway and up to a pair of wooden doors, before he got off and knocked on it.
"Who goes there?" A guard called out from the other side.
"Open the door. It is I, Rochefort," The man replied, before the door then opened and a short guard stepped out.
"I'm glad you're here. His Eminence will be here shortly," The guard said to him.
"See to my horse," Rochefort said to him as he entered the doors and went into a courtyard, while the guard grabbed his horse and led it inside, before Rochefort quickly went to shut the doors. He then let out a strangled gasp upon seeing Dogtania nearby and shut the door. "That meddler. I can't lose her! Wherever I go, she shows up!"
"Where'd he go? Where is he? He's here. I know I saw him!" Dogtania said as she looked around, her sword drawn. "Show yourself Black Mustache!"
"Uh, who does she mean 'Black Mustache?'" The guard said before letting out an "Oh!" of realization.
"Be quiet!" Rochefort whispered to the guard before pulling him to the side. "If she finds me we'll have to take care of her, you understand?" He then grabbed the hilt of his sword and drew it slightly.
"Where could he be hiding? He was here a minute ago, I saw him!" Dogtania said as she walked alongside the wall. "Every time I catch up with him, he seems to disappear!"
"Ah, ah, ah," the guard said as he started to sneeze, prompting Rochefort to cover his face with a hand. Then, he sneezed, catching Dogtania's attention.
Dogtania walked over to the doors and pushed one open, not realizing that the man with the black mustache was quite close to her. She stared at the trees and grass in the courtyard for a few minutes, while Rochefort thought, 'She better not turn around, because if she does, she'll never leave this courtyard.'
"Hmmm," Dogtania hummed as she looked around a few more times. "Show yourself! I know you're in here somewhere!" She called out, before sighing when there was no response. "It's so strange. Maybe it's my imagination, but I was sure I heard something in here," She continued, before she sheathed her sword. "Guess I was mistaken. Nobody in here."
And then she heard the bells of the cathedral start to ring. "Oh no! That means it's twelve o'clock!" She exclaimed. "I'm going to be late with my duel with Porthas and the rest!" She continued as she turned around and started to run away.
Once she was gone, the guard let out a sigh of relief while Rochefort shut the door and let out his own sigh of relief.
"That hot-blooded young troublemaker will have to be dealt with, and quickly too!" he said with a frown, before he turned to the guard. "The Cardinal's secret courtyard mustn't be discovered, understand?"
"Yes sir!"
"Now that's odd," He continued as he remembered what she'd just said. "She said she was going to have a duel with Porthas. If it's true, and she has indeed challenged the Muskehound, I needn't worry," he said as he turned away from the door. "There's no way the lady can win, so I'll not have to face her. Hmmm," He hummed as he walked towards the nearby building.
As he started to enter it, the guard let out a loud sneeze, making him jump to the side with a start. "Excuse me sir," The guard said as he rubbed his nose.
"God bless you!" Rochefort yelled at the man before he went inside, the guard following him and shutting the door.
Several minutes earlier…
Gavin sighed as he sat on the grass in the courtyard behind the large cathedral. "Okay, so she's challenged Porthas and Athos to a duel here," he said to himself. "I just hope she didn't challenge anyone else." As he spoke, he looked around to see if anyone was coming, and saw that Porthas, Athos, and Aramis were approaching. 'Great, she challenged Aramis as well,' he thought with a sigh. 'Hopefully she's the last one.' "Hello Mademoiselles," Gavin said as he got up and bowed to them. "Are you ready to duel my friend Dogtania?"
"We are, Monsieur Gavin," Porthas said to him as Athos and Aramis walked over to a pillar and leaned against it. "If I may ask monsieur, why do you only take your hood off around certain people and leave it on around others?"
"Ah, the answer to that is rather simple, Madame Porthas," he replied as he reached up and took off his hood to show his face. "I am not sure how others will react to seeing me. That is why I keep as much of my body covered up. I do not wish to frighten them," He continued. "Or be labeled a monster and chased out of the city."
"Ah, I see, monsieur," Porthas replied, she, Athos, and Aramis feeling a bit bad he had to do that. "I am sorry you have to fear that."
"It is quite alright," Gavin said to her with a shake of his head. "Maybe one day I can feel comfortable enough to show my face all the time in this city. But for now, I am content with showing it off to a few people, like you beautiful ladies," he continued, before blushing when he realized what he'd added at the end. "Oops," he said as his cheeks grew red.
"Good to hear!" Porthas replied, deciding to ignore what he'd said about them, although she had liked the compliment. "Now then, are you going to be Dogtania's second?"
"What's a 'second?'" He asked her with a confused look appearing on his face.
"A 'second' is someone who will continue to fight for someone if they can't go on in a duel," Porthas explained.
"Oh, I see," Gavin replied, before humming in thought. "Hmmm," he hummed, before he nodded. "Yes, I'll be her second, but I'm not sure if she'll need me to be it honestly," he replied. 'I'll always fight along her side.' "She's pretty good with sword fighting."
"Hmph! We'll see about that!" Porthas said, before the cathedral bells started to ring for noon. "Ah, it's noon. Time for our duel!" She said as she turned to look at the courtyard, with Gavin doing the same.
A few minutes went by, before they spotted Dogtania running towards them. She soon came to a stop before Porthas, panting a bit, right as the bells stopped ringing.
"So, you finally got here, ey?" Porthas said to her with crossed arms and a firm look on her face.
"I apologize for being late," She replied.
"I was sure you'd thought about your challenge and decided not to come," Porthas answered her.
"What?!" Dogtania said with surprise, before frowning. "Get this! I know you're an excellent swordsman Porthas. There are those that are scared of you," She continued as she looked away and crossed her arms. "But I'm not!" She said as she looked back at her with a firm look. "Neither you or anyone else!"
"You want to start right now, is that it?" Porthas asked her.
"That's fine with me, madame," Dogtania replied as she grabbed the hilt of her sword.
"Alright then," Porthas said, before she gestured to Gavin. "Gavin here has agreed to be your second."
"Huh?"
"There are rules for dueling, and one says that you must have a second to continue if you can't go on."
"Oh, really?" Dogtania said, before she looked at Gavin, who gave her a thumbs up. "I didn't know."
"My two seconds are over there," Porthas continued as she gestured to Athos and Aramis.
"Huh? Why, it's Aramis and Athos!" Dogtania said with surprise upon seeing them.
"Since you obviously didn't know the rules, I am going to give you another chance," Porthas said to her as she uncrossed her limbs. "You may now reconsider if you wish," She said, before she winced and let out a groan of pain as she clutched her injured shoulder.
"I forgot that you were wounded," Dogtania said. "That must hurt." Then, her eyes widened. "Wait a minute! I think I have it," She continued as she reached into her shirt and pulled out a small bag. "Here. This is a magical ointment that will cure your wound," She continued, making Gavin arch an eyebrow.
'"Magical?"' He thought with surprise. 'I've never heard her say that about anything before.'
"Try some! You'll feel better!" Dogtania continued as she offered her the bag of ointment.
"Thank you very much, but I cannot accept."
"Why not Porthas?" Dogtania asked her.
"You and I have come here to fight a duel, Dogtania, and you are the challenger. I cannot accept your help," Porthas replied.
"I also have my pride, which is why I insist you put this on your wound," Dogtania said to her. "I don't want to take advantage of anyone, and I assure you it'll work!" She then thought of something. "Perhaps, because you're handicapped, we should wait until you're better."
"It's time you came to your senses, young lady!" Athos said to her. "We won't think any less of you if you get it over with now and apologize. Well, what are you waiting for?"
"I won't apologize," She replied. "Let me explain. I wanted to fight all three of you anyway, so I was thinking, if it's alright with you, why don't I-"
"Huh?!" The three Muskehounds, and Gavin, all said with surprise.
"Mon dieu, she's mad!" Aramis said with surprise.
"Not mad, Aramis," Gavin said with a sigh. "She just likes a challenge."
"Why don't I duel all three of you at once?" Dogtania continued. "That way I can live up to my challenge to each one of you, you see?"
"I believe that she's serious!" Aramis said, with Gavin nodding his head.
"Now listen Dogtania, my patience is wearing thin!" Porthas said with a frown. "Don't push your luck!"
"How many times do I have to tell you, I don't ever go back on my word, or refuse any challenge!" Dogtania said to her with a firm look. "But please, use some of my ointment."
"Enough!" Porthas said with a shake of her head. "I don't need that to fight the likes of you. I can handle you blindfolded!"
"Now there's no need to be rude! I was only trying to be of help," She replied as she put the ointment away.
"Were you?" Porthas said, making Gavin sigh.
"Um, yeah, she was," He muttered to himself as Porthas let out a "Hmph!" and drew her sword, before she did a couple practice slashes in the air to show she could fight.
"I shall show you no mercy," Porthas said to her as Dogtania drew her sword.
"Nor I you, madame!" Dogtania replied, before they nodded to each other and crossed their swords. And then, they started to fight.
"Defend yourself!" Porthas said as she struck first, with Dogtania quickly moving to block her.
As the two fought, Gavin, Athos, and Aramis stood on the sidelines, watching the fight intently.
'Come on Dogtania!' Gavin thought as they fought. 'Beat her!'
What no one realized, though, was that behind some bushes and trees not far away sat a platoon of 15 of the Cardinal's guards, with Captain Widimer and the foxhound guard at the front.
"They've started," The foxhound guard said to the captain. "We can arrest them anytime we want. Dueling is forbidden under the law and the Muskehounds know it!"
"Hold on! We're not in hurry. Let them continue to fight. That way they'll be easily taken later," Widimer said with a grin as he watched them fight. "Heheh! I was just thinking of His Eminence's face when he sees who my prisoners are."
Dogtania then gave a particularly strong blow to Porthas' sword, howling as she did so, and pushing her back against a pillar.
As the two continued to fight, growling and shouting as they did so, Aramis spoke. "She's arrogant, but she was really telling the truth when she said she could handle herself," Aramis said.
"Eh, it only seems that way, Porthas is just getting warmed up!" Athos replied, not wanting to admit that Porthas might have found her match.
"Friendship has blinded you," Aramis said to her, making her frown before she looked at the fighters again.
After several seconds passed, she spoke. "Maybe you're right. I haven't seen Porthas being put to the test like this in a long time."
"Dogtania is faster and more agile. Porthas can't hit her!" Aramis said as Porthas went for a sideways slash, only for Dogtania to jump up and over her, crossing swords with her once she landed on her feet. She then leaped up and at Porthas, who ducked and used her sword to parry her away.
As Dogtania landed on her feet and looked back at Porthas, she panted, a bit worn out from the fighting, with Porthas doing the same.
"Mon dieu! What a fight!" Aramis said with surprise.
"This is the moment I've been waiting for!" Widimer said with a grin. "Now take them!" The foxhound nodded, before he got up and ran towards them, with the other guards going with them.
Their noisy approach caught everyone off guard, and they stared with wide eyes at the approaching guards, who stopped only a few feet from them, with Gavin backing up a bit.
"You know that dueling is forbidden by law. You have been caught in the act! Throw down your swords immediately!" The foxhound said to them as he pointed his sword at Porthas.
"Leave me be!" She said as she smacked his sword away with hers. "This is none of your business!"
"Alright then, if you won't surrender willingly, then I'll have to arrest you by force, madame!" The foxhound said to her. "Throw down your swords!"
There was silence for several seconds, before Athos and Aramis walked over to Porthas. "They're only one platoon, ey? The odds are in our favor," Porthas said as she looked at them.
"Don't they get tired of always losing to us?" Aramis continued.
"Usually I wouldn't have to ask, but you're wounded and exhausted Porthas," Athos said to her. "What do you say?"
"I would die of shame if Monsieur Treville found out we hadn't offered any resistance to a pack of cowards!" Porthas said, before she lifted up her sword.
"All for one," Athos and Aramis said as they drew their swords.
"Don't say I didn't warn you!" The foxhound said to them.
"We would rather die, sir, than obey the orders of a guardsman who serves Richelieu!" Athos said with a frown.
"Grrrr, we shall see!" The foxhound said with a growl.
"Dogtania, I'm afraid we will have to put off our fight for another day!" Porthas said to her. "You go now, while we take care of this pack of mongrels!"
"Don't be silly Porthas! I'm going to be one of you soon. I'm not going to leave you now! Besides, it looks like the fun is just beginning!" She continued before she pointed her sword at the foxhound. "Go on! Arrest me!"
"Well, if Dogtania's sticking around, so am I," Gavin replied as he drew his blade, before he took off his cloak, not wanting the guardsmen to use it against him in any way. "I will never leave my friend behind!"
"That's exactly what we'll do!" The foxhound replied. "Go on! Get them!" he shouted, before the men charged at them.
"En guarde!" Gavin said as he stabbed at a skinny Pug, who blocked his stab, while Dogtania fought with a beagle. She made quick work of him, using her skill with the blade to fling his blade out of his hand, before she punched him in the solar plexus, making him groan as he fell backwards onto his back.
"Well done Dogtania! That's the spirit!" Athos said as she blocked two swords with hers, before she focused and pushed them off her with her superior strength. She then grabbed the guards from the ground and spun herself in a circle a few times, before she dropped them on the ground.
Porthas fought a large pig guard who had a spear, and dodged and blocked each attack, before she used both hands to hold up the spear as it pushed against her sword. Then, with a loud grunt, she pushed the spear off her sword and swung it quickly, cutting off the blade portion of the spear at the wooden part. This made the pig guard squeal with fear, and he turned around and ran off.
Gavin grunted as he blocked another strong slash from the pug as well as from a male fox guard who had joined in. 'They're good!' He thought, before he felt a searing pain in his side and let out a cry of pain. "Gah!" he cried as he jumped back, his side bleeding a bit from a slash from a third guard who had attacked him from behind. "Coward!" Gavin yelled angrily as he swung his sword hard at the hound, who let out a yelp as he held up his sword to block it. "Mongrel!" He yelled again as he walked around him, swinging his sword harder and harder at the hound, before he swung once more, and broke the blade the hound was using. "You'll pay!" he said, before he punched the hound in the face, hard.
The hound let out a yelp of pain as he fell to the ground, gripping his snout, while Gavin turned his attention to the fox and pug guards with a frown. "En guarde!" he shouted again as he swung his blade at them, prompting them to block it with their swords. He then started to swing and slash and stab at them faster than before, which worried them and amazed Athos and Porthas.
"Such speed!" Porthas said with surprise.
"Such power!" Athos said, having seen him break the hound's blade with a strike.
Aramis was busy as well, as she was fighting a pig and hound on either side of her. The two guards then pointed their swords forward and ran at her, prompting her to jump. The two stabbed each other in the hand and oinked and whimpered with pain, before Aramis punched the hound and kicked the pig in the face. She then landed on her feet on the ground with a smile.
Meanwhile, Widimer sat in the bushes, his pistol in hand. He closed one eye as he aimed it as Dogtania as she fought the foxhound, only to let out a gasp of dismay as a dagger flew over and knocked it out of his hands.
"Oh?" Dogtania said upon hearing the gasp of dismay, before she spotted the pistol on the ground and Widimer rubbing his hand. "Huh? Thanks!" She said to Aramis, who smiled.
"Now, get Aramis!" Widimer said with a growl as two guards aimed crossbows at her. "Fire!"
Aramis let out a cry of alarm, but before the guards could shoot her, two large rocks hit them on the head, knocking them backwards.
"Sleep well, cowards!" Dogtania said as she tossed another rock at them for good measure.
"Thanks Dogtania," Aramis said to her with a grateful look.
"My pleasure, my friend," She said, before Aramis said, "Watch out!" reminding her she was still fighting the foxhound, who she clashed swords with again.
"Haha!" Gavin laughed as he flicked a sword out of the fox's hand, making it fly into the air and land in the ground behind him, before he punched the fox in the gut. "Now it's your turn," He said to the pug, who gulped as Gavin swung his sword at his legs. The pug blocked the slash, but then gulped again when Gavin jumped into the air.
"Oh no," the pug said before he was kicked in the face by the human and knocked to the ground. Gavin then let out a sigh of relief as he kicked the sword away from the pug. "Oh, thank goodness, now it's over," He said as he watched Dogtania flick the sword out of the foxhound's hand. The sword flew up into the air, before it then fell down into the ground right in front of the foxhound.
"You're disarmed, so give up!" Dogtania said to the foxhound.
"Never madame! You can kill me if you wish, but I shall not surrender!" The foxhound replied, before he crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "Go ahead! I am ready!"
"Huh?" Dogtania said with surprise, having not expected this.
"Well wonders never cease," Athos said as she crossed her arms, surprise on her face. "A guard of Cardinal Richelieu who knows what honor is."
"It is up to you Widimer," Porthas said to the man as she pointed her blade at him. "To continue fighting would be absurd. You know your men must surrender! Well?"
"Very well," Widimer said with a frown and sigh. "Surrender. That's an order guards."
At that, the foxhound grabbed his blade, and said, "I am following orders," before he broke the blade in his hands and dropped the pieces on the ground. "Your reward is victory and mine is dishonor." He then walked over to his men and started to help them up.
The guards then started to limp away, the more able ones helping those who were injured more move along.
"This is not the end of it!" Widimer said to Porthas before he followed his men, while Porthas laughed and turned to the others as she sheathed her sword, prompting the others to do the same.
"Well, Dogtania, you're a much better swordsman than any of us gave you credit for," Porthas said, before turning to Gavin, who was still holding his side. "The same goes for you as well. From this moment forward, you both may consider yourself one of us."
"Oh boy!" Dogtania said happily, before she remembered something. "Oh, I almost forgot about this!" She continued as she pulled out the ointment, which made Porthas gasp and smile.
"Well thank you Dogtania, for remembering," She replied as Gavin walked over to them.
"One for all," Porthas said as she held her hand over Dogtania's outstretched one, prompting Athos and Aramis to put their hands in as well, with Gavin putting his unoccupied hand in with them.
"And all for one!" They all said.
"Weclome, youngsters!" Athos said to them with a smile
"'Youngster?!'" Dogtania repeated. "Athos, don't call me that!"
At that, Athos began to laugh heartily. "I agree, unless you don't behave yourself, alright youngster?"
"There! You said it again!" Dogtania replied.
"Oh my! Sorry!" Athos said before she started to laugh again.
"Porthas, what are we going to do about our duel?" Dogtania asked her.
"Yeah, what are we going to do about it?" Gavin added.
"OH, have you forgotten already Dogtania and Gavin?" Porthas said. "You're both one of us, and duels have no place among friends."
"Huh? Oh!" Dogtania said with a chuckle, causing the others to laugh as well, before Gavin moved away and sat down.
"Well, this is going to hurt," he said as he reached into his shirt and pulled out his bag of ointment before he removed his hand from his side, revealing his glove was a bit bloody.
"Gavin, you're hurt!" Dogtania said as she handed Porthas the ointment and ran over to him to look at the wound.
"Oh, it's just a scratch," he replied as he took off his gloves, revealing his hands. "Stupid guard came up from behind like a coward," he grumbled as he opened the pot of ointment and dipped his fingers in it, before he reached his fingers over to the large slash on his side and touched the ointment to it. He immediately let out a hiss of pain as it touched the shallow wound, and he started to rub it, with Porthas doing the same on her injured shoulder.
"Here, let me help," Dogtania said as she took off her gloves and got some more ointment, before she dabbed some of it on the part of the wound he hadn't put it on already.
"Thanks, Dogtania," he said as he put more on, making sure the wound was completely coated. The ointment already seemed to be working, as no more blood was coming out, and it didn't hurt as much.
"You're welcome, Gavin," She replied, before he kissed her on the cheek, making her blush. "Oh gosh!" She said, while the Three Muskehounds stared with surprise.
Meanwhile…
Just outside the city, a meeting was taking place.
"So you say the Duke of Buckingham has done nothing suspicious, nothing at all that we can use against him, Count Rochefort?" Cardinal Richelieu said to the man as he held a glass of wine.
"So far, Eminence," Rochefort replied.
"Hmmm, he must be up to something. He has even kept his actions hidden from the queen," Richelieu said, before he drank the rest of his wine. "Tell Milady, she must discover what his plans are as soon as she can," He continued as he set the wine glass down.
Later that night, the cardinal had arrived at his destination, and was greeted by Widimer.
"I have ill tidings, your Eminence," Widimer said to him with a sorrowful look as he looked down at his feet. "We attempted to arrest those Muskehounds we caught dueling, but we failed," he continued.
"Did you say a duel between Muskehounds?" Cardinal Richelieu replied with wide eyes.
"Yes Eminence."
"Excellent Captain!"
"Huh?" Widimer said with confusion.
"Don't you see, our guardsmen intervened to stop a duel, but the Muskehounds did not surrender to them," Richelieu replied. "Instead, they broke another law, and attacked our guards. I will enjoy the look on the King's face when he hears the news." He then cackled a bit. "Not to mention the discomfort this will cause Monsieur Treville!" At that, Richelieu laughed loudly into the night sky, which was slowly filling up with black clouds.
