A/N I started writing this story a long time ago and I've just found it and edited it a little so the writing might not be great but I wanted to publish it anyways. The chapters will vary in size but this is about the average length. Since it's all pre-written I will be updating fairly often, probably once or twice a week. Also, it may not be strictly canon complaint since I didn't have access to the books when I was writing. I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything except my own imaginings in Rick Riordan's universe.

Annabeth

The spiders came again tonight. Just like before, they crawled into my bed and squeezed under gaps in the sheets. I was petrified. They crawled over every inch of me while I lay still, paralysed in fear. I wanted to run, to scream, to do anything that would get me away from them, but my stepmother would just send me back to bed.

"Go to sleep," she told me last night. "The spiders are just your imagination." She wouldn't let me call my father, who was on a business trip. Worst of all, the spiders always disappeared the minute she came along with the bites so all I had for proof were some very fake-looking webs.

On the third night, I didn't wait for them. I grabbed some supplies, packed my bag and climbed out the window. For a minute, I hesitated. Was I doing the right thing? Yes, I told myself, they won't miss me. I've always been the outsider so now, they can have their perfect life with their perfect family. I clambered down to the streets and into the world.

It had been barely a week, but I was already starting to get sick of this. Monsters attacked everyday, even more than they had at home.

I had just finished battling one and I was hiding in an abandoned warehouse when I heard voices. More monsters, I thought. Quickly, I ducked behind a sheet of tarp and prayed that they wouldn't find me. The footsteps came closer and closer until my shelter was suddenly yanked off.

What surprised me the most was their appearance. I knew that in my world, appearances could be deceptive, but in front of me seemed to be a 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. The girl was dressed almost entirely in black with choppy black hair, but she had piercing electric blue eyes. The boy was dressed in khaki shorts and a t-shirt. He had sandy hair and slightly softer blue eyes. Even though they looked human, I still didn't trust them.

"Monsters," I cried, brandishing my hammer and trying to sound brave. "Stay away from me!" The two exchanged a look.

"We're not going to hurt you," said the girl. "We're monster fighters as well." I couldn't believe it. I had finally found others like me.

"My name's Luke and this is Thalia. What's your name kiddo?" asked the boy.

"Annabeth," I replied in a small voice.

"Well, Annabeth, take this," he told me, tossing a bronze dagger towards me. It didn't look like much and the blade was only about 3 inches long, but I took it, glad for anything that could help. "Daggers are only for the smartest warriors. You have to look for the smallest weaknesses in a monster to use your dagger. I have a feeling that you're very smart aren't you Annabeth?" he asked. I nodded shyly.

"You can come with us," the girl, Thalia, said. I was excited. I wouldn't be alone anymore. I could finally have help fighting the monsters. But a tiny sliver of doubt remained. "You're - You're not going to take me back to my family are you?" I asked fearfully. They exchanged a worried look. "No," Luke said,"We'll be family now. I promise."
