The Assignment
AN: Ok so long time no read I guess. Sorry! Didn't mean for this to get away from me, but I have been adding a lot to my plate recently, and have not really been in the right mindset to sit down and write. With that said, I hope you enjoy this admittedly short chapter!
Adrien made it to school in record time. With a goal in mind, it didn't take him long to eat, pack his bag, and be on his way. As his car pulled into the school parking lot, he began scoping the area around for Marinette.
He saw her about to cross the street, but looking like she was struggling to carry something. Quickly deciding leaving her to her own devices could only end in disaster, he hurried over to the struggling girl.
"What are you doing?" He asked incredulously. He took what she was carrying and they made their way across the street together.
"Well, if you would look at what you're carrying," she began sarcastically, "you would see it's coffee, protein bars, and water."
"And why do you need all this?"
"I was running short on time! Believe it or not, but it takes a second to look this good!" She gestured to herself, jokingly.
"It really doesn't," he chuckled.
"Maybe not, but I have other things going on!"
"Like what?" He challenged.
"DUDE!"
Both Marinette and Adrien looked away from each other to look across the courtyard at their screaming friend.
"DUDE!" Adrien yelled back, soliciting many stares from onlookers. Marinette hit him in the arm.
"You're drawing unnecessary attention! Just wait until we get over there and then talk to him please?" She pleaded.
Adrien grinned down at her and gave her a wink then looked up. "SORRY! GOTTA WAIT TO TALK! MARINETTE DOESN'T LIKE THE ATTENTION!" He screamed at his friend as Marinette face palmed.
The two made their way across the courtyard and made it to Nino.
"What's up Nino?"
"Dude! Did you hear what Mrs. Bustier's new project for us is?" Nino asked excitedly.
"She has a new project already?" Marinette groaned. "It's only the first week of school!"
"Well apparently it's supposed to last the whole year!" Nino told the two. "Something about wanting us to see how much we all changed during the summer or something like that," he completed.
Adrien grinned and rocked on his feet. "I think some of us have definitely changed," he said to no one in particular.
Nino eyed his friend and then looked away.
"There's Alya! I'm gonna go see if she knows more!"
Before Adrien and Marinette could respond, he had ran off.
For the first time in a long time, Nino had known more than Alya about something and she was just as excited as everyone to find out what their new project would be.
The class was sitting excitedly in their seats when their teacher walked in. She eyed the class and smiled slightly.
"Good morning everyone!" She began. "From the looks on your faces, I would say you know about my little project."
"Only that it's going to last the whole year!" Alya called out.
"And that it's going to help us get to know each other!" Mylene tagged on.
"Aww that's so sweet!" Rose exclaimed. "Isn't it?" She questioned, looking beside her.
"Yeah, yeah, it's pretty cool I guess," Juleka mumbled.
"Will you let me tell you then, instead of talking about what it might entail?"
A silence swept over the class and Mrs. Bustier smiled again.
"Well," she began. "This project, as you said, will help you see how much you changed over our summer break, and it will help everyone get to know each other better. I have already talked with your parents and received the approval, so there is no need to worry there," she said her eyes dancing around Adrien's vicinity. "You all will be randomly paired together to live at each other's houses this year!"
The class erupted. Shouts of excitement and one of dismay were all heard at once until the teacher quieted them down.
"Everyone! Please calm down! You don't even know all the details!" The class simmered down and waited eagerly for her to continue. "I will have all of you pick numbers and the two of you who have the same will be paired up. You two will decide who's house to live at first. You will stay for one week, then move to the other's house. This will continue like that for the whole year. I'm hoping this will make you all better friends before heading into your final year of school next year. Now, any questions?" Again the class exploded.
"I want you all to go home tonight and prepare your houses and your mindsets! We will draw partners tomorrow!" Mrs. Bustier shouted at the class exiting her room. "Get a good night's rest! See you tomorrow!"
Her students left and all headed home to tell their parents what their new year long project will be. All were anticipating their partners, and one in particular was hoping her good luck might just rub off on her.
