"Mommy? When will the others be home?" Meredith asked as Carolyn was homeschooling her
"They will be here in about two hours. Daddy's picking them up once he's done at the hospital" Carolyn smiled "Meredith, three more exercises and you're done" Carolyn smiled
"Hmm.." Meredith nodded and went back to her words
"You're doing great" Carolyn smiled as she saw Meredith slowly writing the answers down
"Mommy?" Meredith quietly whispered
"What's wrong sweetie?" Carolyn asked, she had a feeling what was coming next. A bit before noon they had to cut their lessons short so Meredith could take a little nap as the pain was flaring up again
"It hurts.." Meredith sighed and filled in the last word
"Well let's go take a nap, we have a surprise for when the other kids are back" Carolyn smiled "Can I lift you up?"
"Hmm" Meredith shrugged "Yeah"
Carolyn lifted the girl in her arms, she wasn't wearing her braces today, her feet were swollen and her skin was red from rubbing against the plastic
"Let's close our eyes for a bit, maybe you'll feel better after" Carolyn smiled "But first let's get you comfortable"
Carolyn sat down on the couch with Meredith in her arms, a pillow in between them so Meredith would be comfortable
…
"Daddy, finally!" Amelia gasped as they entered the house "Mer? Meri!" She called out
"Shh, mommy and Meredith are taking a nap" Christopher whispered
"Dad, we're going to do our homework first" Derek said, the boys didn't wanna disturb his mom and Meredith that were asleep
"Thanks boys" Christopher nodded "Amy, do you wanna help me by preparing dinner?" Christopher asked
"But daddy- I wanna stay with mommy and Mer!" Amelia sighed
"Amy, they're napping. Meredith is fine, I promise" Christopher kissed Amelia's head and led her to the kitchen
About half an hour later the boys returned downstairs and went outside to play soccer, they had asked if Amelia wanted to join them but she'd rather stay to help her dad until..
"Awww!" They heard Meredith's cries
"Shit-" Christopher muttered, turned off the stove and ran to the living room, followed by Amelia
"Shh, it's okay. It's okay" Carolyn tried to calm Meredith down. She had placed the girl on her back on the couch so she could reach Meredith's port
"I'll go grab her meds!" Christopher said
"Mommy!" Meredith cried in pain
"Shh, daddy's grabbing your meds, sweetie" Carolyn tried to soothe her
"I'm back" Christopher ran inside and injected the meds
"Daddy!" Meredith whimpered
"Shh sweetie, it's okay" Christopher brushed his hand through her hair
"Hurts! I hurt!" Meredith kept crying, the kids were looking at her
"Shh, it will get a bit better soon" Christopher said and waited a bit until Meredith's cries got better
"Is that better honey?" Carolyn asked
"Laying down hurts" She whispered
"Let's try to sit on my lap. Okay?" Christopher asked and she nodded so he carefully picked her up despite her wincing in pain but she was actually more comfortable in this position in Chirstopher's lap
"Guys, I was thinking we could decorate the christmas tree, what would you think of that?" Carolyn asked to distract the kids
"Yes!" The boys smiled
"Can Mer join us?" Amelia sheepily asked
"I think Mer and I can instruct what you guys have to do" Christopher quietly laughed "Sweetie, what do you think of that?"
"Perfect" Meredith muttered as she was exhausted but didn't wanna miss out on this
"Let's start then" Carolyn smiled
"Oh I love the white ones!" Amelia smiled
The kids started decorating the tree but Carolyn and Christopher made sure to involve Meredith
"I like it" Meredith weakly muttered in Christopher's chest
"It looks very pretty" Christopher smiled
"And we got a special present!" Carolyn announced
"Oh what's it? Meredith, did you hear?" She gasped
"I did" Meredith smiled and looked up
"Each of you have a small box you can open" Carolyn smiled
"I'll help you, munchkin" Christopher promised and helped her unpacking the small box
"Oh-" The kids gasped as they saw balls with their family picture
"We have four of them" Carolyn smiled
"I love it!" Amelia smiled
Christopher wanted to shift Meredith on his leg when she started crying
"What's wrong Meredith?" He asked worriedly
"Awwww" She just kept crying
"Take the kids out of the room" Christopher instructed
Carolyn did as she was asked but Amelia was giving her a hard time
"Amy, just go upstairs with your brother please" Carolyn begged before rushing back inside to Christopher and Meredith
"It's her hip. She doesn't let me touch it but I'm afraid it's dislocated!" He quickly said "Call and ambulance, she needs to go to the hospital"
Meredith kept crying while Carolyn went to call
"I'm going with her." Christopher stated
"I'll be driving to the hospital with the kids" Carolyn nodded and went upstairs to get the kids ready
Christopher sat with Meredith as they waited for the emergency team to arrive
"Give her a morphine drip, I'm a doctor" Christopher said and they gave her the drugs through the port
"Mer!" Amelia yelled as the guys placed her on the gurney and she couldn't stop crying
"Can I take a quick look at your hip?" The female paramedic asked
"No!" Meredith cried "Please don't touch it"
"This doesn't look good" She quietly told Christopher
"I know.." He sighed "I want her sedated as soon as possible, I don't want her cries to cause an asthma attack" He worried over the little girl, stroking his hand softly over her head
"We'll sedate her now" The paramedic nodded and adjusted the medicine
"Take a small nap, I'm gonna stay with you the whole time, I promise" Christopher kissed her forehead softly "Mommy and the kids will follow soon after" He promised and saw Meredith's eyes slowly closing
"I think her hip is dislocated" The paramedic quietly said once Meredith was asleep
"I'm afraid to, especially with her Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.." Christopher sighed and took a quick look at her hips "We'll need an orthopedic surgeon for this.." He quietly said "I'm afraid we'll have to put it back with screws"
They loaded Meredith into the back of the ambulance and Christopher held her hand the whole ride, he didn't want her to be alone through this. The ride was long and scary so he sighed in relief once they had finally arrived
"Christopher, we're gonna take her for scans" Arizona smiled apolitical at her colleague who was clearly very concerned for his little girl
Christopher waited in an awkward silence until is wife arrived
"I dropped them off at daycare. How is she?" Carolyn gasped
"I have no idea. Arizona doesn't want me there. She said Mer's sound asleep and she'll come out once she has news.." He sighed and looked at his watch
"Christopher, what do you think-" Carolyn started but a familiar voice interrupted them
"Carolyn, Christopher.." Arizona called out and walked towards them "I'm very sorry but Meredith will need surgery.." The blonde spoke up
