Prompt - 'Literati celebrating Rory's birthday after getting back together' @jessmcriano

POST AYITL - Rory is raising her daughter in Stars Hollow with Lorelai's help and Jess pays a visit on her birthday (they have been together for about 6 months - they are both 36 with Rory's daughter (Sookie Lane Gilmore) having just turned 3)

Birthdays at the Gilmore house had always been largely celebrated, and Rory's 36th birthday was no different. She has been woken up that morning by her mother and her three year old daughter, Sookie-Lane, carrying a tray of pancakes, waffles, and pop tarts. After eating her breakfast and getting ready for the day, Rory settled down in her room with her current read. Her mother had graciously offered to take Sookie-Lane to the dog park with Paul Anka, which Rory had quickly accepted. She loved her daughter to pieces, but it was hard to find alone time with a three year old in the house.

Just as Rory had become engrossed in her book, she heard a soft knocking at her bedroom door. As she turned to face it, the door opened, and a familiar face peered through.

"Jess!" Rory exclaimed, throwing her book to the side and clamouring off her bed.

"Hey, birthday girl!" He greeted, opening his arms for a hug. She leapt into them, burying her face in his neck. They stayed there for a moment before she extracted herself from him.

"I thought you said you couldn't make it!" She asked, letting him into her room. He grabbed his bag off of the floor and entered, setting his stuff on the edge of her bed.

"I managed to pull a few strings. You didn't think I'd miss my girlfriend's birthday, did you?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"I guess not." She replied, pulling him in for a kiss. Before they could talk any further, there was a yell of 'Toddler Alert!'Before Sookie-Lane barrelled into the room.

"Uncle Jessy!" The little girl squealed clinging onto Jess' legs.

"No way! Is this little Sookie? You're all grown up!" He commented.

"She is growing by the minute. I swear, next time you see her, she will be as tall as me." Rory laughed, admiring the sight in front of her.

Jess had known Sookie since she was a baby and had become an adorable uncle figure for her. In many ways, he was her Luke.

"Mommy, is it time for presents?" Sookie asked, still clinging to Jess' legs.

"I'm not sure, honey. Why don't you go ask Grandma?" Rory replied as Jess ruffled the little girl's hair.

On cue, Lorelai peered around the door.

"Ok- Jess! I didn't know you were coming!"

"It was sort of a surprise visit.I managed to shuffle some meetings around so I could be here." Jess admitted, picking Sookie-Lane up.

"Well, I'm glad you're here. It wouldn't have been the same without you." Lorelai replied, a small smile on her face. "Right, presents in the living room." She called, clapping to get everyone's attention as she moved into the other room.

"Was that a compliment from Lorelai Gilmore?" Jess feigned shock, making Sookie giggle.

"She must be in a good mood if she's happy to see you." Rory replied, making her way into the living room.

Lorelai and Jess' relationship had improved a lot since he and Rory started dating again, but she was always worried he'd regress back to his old ways.

Opening presents was a blast. She'd received multiple fiction books from her mother and Luke, plus some notebooks and stationary from the town members. Sookie-Lane had made her a photo frame covered on glitter and stickers and Jess had gifted her a kindle ('this way you don't have to carry too many books around with you') which she was very happy about. After presents had been opened and lunch had been consumed, Lorelai and Luke had taken Sookie-Lane out to see her great-grandma, leaving Rory and Jess alone in the house.

Jess sat on the floor at the foot of Rory's bed with Rory snuggled up beside him, both of them reading their respective books as Jess softly stroked Rory's hair.

"This is nice." Rory mumbled, snuggling deeper into his chest.

"I agree."

After a few moments of silence, Rory spoke up again.

"Jess?"

"Hmmm?"

"What do you think- about moving in with me?" His hand stalled as he looked down at her.

"What?"

"You know, you're here most of the time anyway- unless you're in New York on business- and you already have a drawer and half the wardrobe. Plus, Sookie-Lane loves having you around and-" Rory was cut off by a sudden kiss which she immediately relaxed into.

"Rory, I would love to move in with you."

"Good."
