A/N: I hope you like it :)
Jade was annoyed to say the least. Why did she always get dragged into things that she had no intention of ever doing? However here she was in a supermarket with Cat, shopping ingredients for Robbie's birthday cake. Her best friend had insisted on baking a cake for Robbie and seeing that she had nothing better to do and could hardly deny Cat anything Jade had agreed to come with her.
Cat was just getting excited over the different toppings and decorations for cakes when her happy voice got interrupted by a quite familiar one.
"Hello Cat." When the two friends turned around they came face to face with a middle-aged woman who now looked at Jade with a forced smile when she noticed her next to Cat. "Jade."
"Hey Mrs. Oliver." Cat smiled happily at her.
This morning Jade had thought that her day wouldn't be all that bad, seeing that she would spent it with her best friend, despite having to bake a cake later. Now however she was sure that her day wouldn't turn out good. It was no secret that her and Mrs. Oliver didn't get along. Since Beck had introduced her to his parents when they had started being exclusive, his parents hadn't held back with their negative opinion of her. From the beginning of their relationship Mrs. Oliver had told Beck, even in front of her, that she wasn't the right one to choose for a girlfriend. That Jade had, in an attempt to get Beck back, injured her husband with a dangerous dog hadn't been helpful either, but Jade never cared about what people thought of her anyway. Back when they had still been a couple Beck had always stood up for her in front of his parents, even if she had told him that she didn't need him to fight her battles. Thinking about it now, the Olivers had probably thrown a party when Beck and her had broken up a few weeks ago.
"I haven't seen you two for a while, but you know who I see very often now?"
"Who?" Cat asked innocently.
"That nice girl, Tori, is visiting my Beck so often now. She is so pretty and have you seen her cheekbones? Sometimes I don't even see her leave in the evening. Wouldn't it be great if they got together? They would make such a perfect couple."
The fake happy smile that she sent Jade's way couldn't fool Jade. Despite that there was a high chance that Mrs. Oliver only said this to get a rise out of her, Jade couldn't help but feel her heart clench painfully in her chest. Hearing those words hurt and maybe there was some truth to it. Her old insecurities when it came to Tori and her ex-boyfriend resurfaced again. What if Beck was really moving on with Tori? He had already tried to kiss her two weeks ago, so it was possible that now they were secretly seeing each other. In the eyes of everyone else they had been broken up long enough for it to be okay to date another girl and Jade had always feared that there was an attraction between Beck and Tori. Jade's heart shattered all over again at the thought of her ex-boyfriend dating Tori. It was possible that Beck and Tori were together and Mrs. Oliver wasn't lying after all. Shaking her head Jade knew one thing for sure, if they were dating or not, she wouldn't give Mrs. Oliver the satisfaction to see how much pain her words were causing her. She was an actress, so it shouldn't be too difficult to act as if nothing was wrong.
"Of course. We're all friends, so why wouldn't it be alright for them to date?" When Jade saw Mrs. Oliver's arrogant fake smile dim, she almost smirked contently. Did that woman really think that it was so easy to get a rise out of her? If she had hoped that she would make a scene, she was mistaken, after all Jade West was not predictable. Her voice staying polite, Jade continued. "It was nice meeting you, but we have to go now. You know, still a lot of shopping to get done and we have to bake a birthday cake. Greet your husband from me."
Cat, who had watched the conversation with concerned eyes, followed Jade in silence after she waved goodbye to Mrs. Oliver. She missed the times when Jade had smiled more and even more she missed to see her best friend and Beck be together. Back when Jade and Beck had still been a couple the whole group had often movie nights at Beck's RV together. Since the break up there had been only two movie nights and Jade had refused to go. While Cat wanted to stay with her so she wasn't lonely, her best friend had insisted that she should go. Needless to say that Cat had gone to the movie nights, Jade could be very demanding after all. However the good atmosphere that was normally there hadn't been present, no Jade and Beck snuggled up on the bed while the rest of them shared the couch, no sarcastic comments from Jade and no one needed to remind the couple in their group to stop kissing during the movie. Mrs. Oliver had brought them snacks between the movies and Cat had thought that she was a nice woman.
Seeing how Mrs. Oliver just treated Jade, Cat changed her mind. At first she had seemed so nice, but then she had started talking about Tori and Beck being a great couple and Cat had felt her best friend tense next to her. Cat was the only one who knew how hurt Jade still was about the break up, even though her best friend put up a tough facade she couldn't fool her. That Jade had been overly polite proved to Cat even more how much Mrs. Oliver's word pained her best friend. When they were out of earshot she just had to ask.
"Are you okay, Jadey?"
"I'll be fine."
While Cat really hoped that everything would be fine again, she doubted it. No one had been fine since Jade and Beck's break up, especially not the ex-couple. Most of the time they tried to avoid each other at all costs and when they were forced to talk due to a school project Cat could see how much it pained them to be so close to each other and not be able to be together. The rest of the day Cat tried her best to distract Jade, but she could see that their meeting with Mrs. Oliver still affected her best friend more than she would ever admit.
On Sunday they all met up at Tori's house for Robbie's birthday. They had organized a small party for their friend and had invited a few people from school. When Cat and Jade arrived a lot of people were already there and the music was welcoming them loudly. Smiling brightly Cat gave Robbie his birthday cake and a kiss on the cheek, while Jade just settled for a halfhearted 'happy birthday' and a small smile.
After they had greeted their other friends, Cat and Jade sat down on one of the couches and looked around at the other people. It didn't surprise Cat when Beck came over to join them. Since the break up it was always Beck who tried to be close to Jade, while Jade normally tired to avoid him as much as possible.
"The cake you two made for Robbie looks great." He complimented them when he sat down next to Cat.
"Who said I helped making that thing?"
"My mother told me that she met you yesterday while you were shopping ingredients with Cat." Beck explained.
"We met her alright." Jade rolled her eyes and continued when she saw her ex-boyfriend's confused look. "Don't even pretend like your mother and I are best friends. You know how much she hates me, so you can imagine how well that went." With that Jade stood up and went to the buffet.
Cat was about to follow her best friend and see if she was alright when a hand on her arm stopped her.
"What happened yesterday between my mother and Jade?"
At first Cat wasn't sure if she should tell Beck, but when she looked at him and saw how concerned he looked she knew that she had to tell him. It was obvious that he still loved Jade as much as she loved him. Cat had seen it all along, the longing looks he sent Jade's way when he was sure that she wasn't looking, his sad expression when she ignored him in class and the fact that he still wore his part of the couple's matching necklaces. There was no doubt that Mrs. Oliver had lied and Beck wasn't moving on, so maybe it was alright for her to tell Beck what his mother had said to them yesterday.
"Your mother told us that Tori is over at your RV all the time and that you two have sleep overs like you and Jade used to."
Beck's eyes widened at that. Sure, his mother had never been shy to express that she didn't see Jade as the perfect girlfriend for him, but he couldn't believe that she would go that far and lie to hurt Jade. His mother knew how much Jade meant to him and that he wasn't able to move on from her. They had dated for three years and he still loved her. He had to tell her the truth.
Slowly he approached Jade, who stood by a small table that had snacks on it. Knowing that his ex-girlfriend hated beating around the bush he immediately got to the point.
"Cat told me what my mother said to you." At that Beck saw Jade look angrily at Cat, who hid behind Robbie who had joined her on the couch. "Don't be mad at her. I'm glad that she told me, otherwise I wouldn't be able to tell you that my mother lied."
"Did she really?" Despite her sarcastic tone Beck could hear the insecurity in her voice and after her next words he knew why she believed his mother. "To me it seems she didn't. I mean you tried to kiss Tori two weeks ago, so that you are dating now seems plausible, doesn't it?" At his shocked expression she added. "I saw you over the webcam Cat accidentally left on, so don't bother denying it."
"I wasn't about to." Beck nervously ran a hand through his hair. "Look, I tried to move on from you by trying to kiss Tori, but then I realized I didn't want to move on. I made a mistake when I didn't open the door and I should have never broken up with you. My mother's words can't be true because how can I move on with someone else when I'm still so much in love with you."
"You're lying." Her words had such finality that Beck's heart squeezed painfully. If that was what she really thought, he had to convince her otherwise.
"Please look at me Jade." When she refused his request he gently took a hold of her face with his hands and moved her head so that she was looking at him. It was the first time since their break up that they looked at each other, really looked at each other. Despite Jade doing her best to hide her pain Beck could see it in her eyes and it was all his fault. He had done that to her and he was the one that had to fix it. "I was an idiot for letting you go. I love you, I really do. Please believe me."
Being so close to him, Jade was able to see through his eyes right into his soul and in that moment she knew that he meant every word he had said. Mrs. Oliver had lied to her to cause her even more pain than she was already in, but that didn't matter now. Beck was truly sorry for what he had done. He didn't want to move on and he still loved her.
Beck looked nervously at Jade. She hadn't said anything after his confession and he began to lose hope that she felt the same way. Had he messed up so badly that she wouldn't give him a second chance? He didn't want to pressure her. If she wasn't ready to get back together with him right now he would wait for her, no matter how long it would take. However when he felt Jade's hand on his cheek and saw a soft look in her eyes his heart began beating faster.
Jade smiled slightly when she saw Beck's eyes light up and she knew in that moment that she was doing the right thing. Softly she lay her lips on his and he immediately responded. She had missed this so much and judging by the way he pulled her as close as he could she knew that he had missed her as well. Jade smirked slightly into their kiss when she thought about Mrs. Oliver's shocked expression when she would tell her that her try to break them apart for good had caused exactly the opposite effect. That just proved that in the end it didn't matter what anyone else thought about them as along as they believed in their relationship and loved each other as much as they did.
