Bruno didn't like being in town. He never liked being in town but somehow it was worse now. These people hated him. They all still hated him. Bruno was certain of that. They were just pretending. Pretending for the sake of his family and for the sake of peace but either way they were all lying. No one was "fine", no one "understood", and one hundred percent no one was "sorry". If he ever came into the village by himself he was certain that their stories would change very quickly. He'd gone home bleeding before. He didn't want that again. He didn't want to get hurt. He didn't want anyone to hurt him again. He longed for Casita and the security of his home. He longed for his walls where no one even knew where he was and if no one knew where he was then he didn't have to deal with questions for prophecies, disappointment, or anger. Often times it could be all three.

He also didn't want to disappoint his family.

So, here he was tailing along with Julieta and Agustin as they did a little shopping around town and surrounded by people who hated him. He just kept his head down, eyes flitting this way and that as his mind searched for danger. He fiddled with his ruana and gently pet the rat that had crawled out to settle in his hand. The little rodent calmed him and if people were staring he didn't notice. For some reason the rats could be a huge comfort. He still couldn't believe they had managed to convince him to do this but even he knew that, after a year, he needed to try and get out of the house for at least a little bit.

As he marveled at the softness of the rat's fur his head began to spin and his eyes began to burn as a pressure built up at his temples.

"Oh no, not again." He thought to himself before the world around him flared bright green.

It was a close vision. He could feel that. The results of it would be immediate and usually that meant something bad. Almost everything he saw was bad of course and the few good ones were just so insignificant that there was no point in bothering with it at all. Some things at least served as a laugh for him. Like knowing in advance that Casita was going to get angry at Agustin for some reason and refuse him access to the stairs so he could find a spot to watch for entertainment purposes.

He heard laughter, he heard voices lots and lots of voices and sounds. He heard donkeys braying and children laughing before his vision pulled together a scene from the brightness that filled his gaze. Three children played with ribbons as they ran through the street. A crow cawed as it tried to steal a bit of food. There was a horse, a child on a horse. Her father was next to her and she was laughing. It was her first time on the back on a horse by herself. He could smell the dust the animal kicked up as it stamped it's feet. He could smell the food sold in the market. The child laughed and her father laughed with her. It was….nice.

Then it all came crashing down. Someone was patching the roof on the building above the girl. Humming away and bobbing their head to the beat of tune. He called out to a friend below, giving a wave before returning to his work. As he had turned to look at his friend who'd been passing by a roof tile shifted and the brittle, badly made material cracked.

"No." Bruno thought. "No, n-no. I-It's not going to hold. He's going to fall."

"You're going to fall!" He tried to call out. "Stop! It's all going to fall!" He couldn't make a sound.

All he could do was watch as the man shifted back and planted a foot firmly on one of the cracked tiles and moved to stand.

"No!"

The tiles cracked beneath his weight and, like a chain reaction, everything came tumbling down. The tiles scraped loudly against the stone as that section of the roof slid down and landed right on top of the girl and the horse.

Then there were screams. The child's breath was gurgling. The father screamed for help. People ran. The gurgling stopped. Red. Red. There was so much red. So much blood. He could smell it. He could taste that coppery tang on his tongue.

Within seconds his mind was back and the vision was over. His heart pounded in his chest. He knew it had only been a few seconds but it always felt like the visions last for far longer than that. It was fine. He was fine.

A crow cawed and he looked over to see the black bird trying to steal food from the woman who ran one of the orchards in town.

He was not fine.

A group of children ran by, ribbons twirling behind them.

He was not fine.

He hadn't even realized that he'd walked away from Julieta and Agustin and he certainly hadn't noticed Agustin's calls asking him where he was going. He also didn't notice that both Agustin and his sister had dropped everything to follow him. He wandered around with a single minded focus and the rest of the world simply didn't exist anymore. He heard a horse knicker and stamp its' hooves. He ran toward the sound, earning confused shouts from the two following him. He rounded the corner and saw her. He looked up and saw that the tiles had already cracked. He looked everywhere, tried to think of something. He wound up picking up a rock and lobbing it at the horse's legs, striking the animal in the ankle.

He didn't hear Julieta and Agustin's cries of shock when he threw a rock at a horse, nor did he notice the firm hand grabbing his shoulder. He watched the animal jolt and run, carrying the girl with it only moments before the roof tiles came crashing down but this time the girl was safe if a little bruised from falling off the horse. Bruno let loose a loud breath and sunk to the ground, putting his face in his hands.

He could still see the blood. He'd changed it but he couldn't stop seeing the blood. He grabbed at his hair and whimpered as he squinted his eyes shut trying to make the memory of the vision go away. He sucked in a deep breath trying and trying to stop seeing it to just stop seeing all of the blood and stop hearing that horrible gurgling sound and-

"Bruno!" Agustin yelled as he shook him by the shoulders and he snapped his eyes open to stare into the man's wide eyes.

Bruno looked around and saw that everyone was staring at him. He pulled the hood of his ruana down over his face and curled in on himself. Surely they're going to think he caused that. Surely they are going to blame him. They'll say something like how he spooked the horse, ruined someone's roof, and hurt the kid. That would be it. That's what was going to happen. What else was he supposed to do though?! He didn't know what else he could have done!

"Bruno." Came Agustin's far gentler voice as the man encourage him to lift his head. "You did this on purpose." He said with certainty.

Oh god even Agustin was going to blame him. Where was his sister? Where was Julieta? Bruno looked past his brother in law to see her kneeling by the crying girl.

"You knew this was going to happen." Agustin whispered, pulling Bruno's attention back to him.

All Bruno could do was nod.

"Why didn't you tell anyone? Is this why you came into town with us? When did you even have this vision?"

"J-just now." He whispered back. "Some-sometimes it just happens."

"I know it does I've seen it and I didn't see you having a vision."

"Not...all of them...are…..like that."

Agustin nodded, urging him to go on but Bruno couldn't focus. Everyone was looking at him and all he could see, all he could think of were all of the eyes that were everywhere and all looking at him.

"Bruno. Look at me. Nothing else exists. Just me." Agustin said as he put a gentle hand on Bruno's shoulder.

"S-sometimes they're...they're quick. Just a few seconds but I can see….I can feel...it all seems so real." He could hear his voice drift off and become hollow.

Suddenly it was like someone else was there instead of him. He felt distant and far away. The voices were faded and not so overwhelming anymore. He just let himself drift.

"I-I'm gonna go home now." He muttered vacantly as he stood not really looking at anything around him.

"Bruno wait." Agustin stood and grabbed his arm. "Are you okay?"

There were a few long moments as he stared, confused at the question. Like he was so far away from himself that he couldn't understand what Agustin was saying.

"Bruno." He said more firmly, once again grabbing the man by the shoulders. "Are you okay. Look at me."

Bruno didn't want to, If he looked, if he payed attention then that distant feeling would go away.

"Bruno."

All the man could do was clench his jaw and shake his head as his eyes started to burn with unshed tears.

"I…" He sucked in a breath. "I wanna go home." He said with stuttering breaths.

"Yeah. Okay. We can do that. Julieta will catch up. Come on."

He grabbed Bruno by the shoulders and gently led him out of the market shaking his head at anyone who looked like they were going to ask a question. The moment the doors to their home were opened Bruno darted inside and vanished. Where he went Agustin didn't know and right now he didn't care to. Bruno needed space and he needed time. That didn't mean that he wasn't going to share the days events with the rest of the family.

Perhaps, with this newest discovery, they might be in a better position to understand a little bit better and to help a little bit more.
