Finding Our Future ch3

"Right so let me get this straight. Haley was your tutor in high school," he spoke looking at the pair.

"Yes, she did a great job. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have graduated high school," he confessed looking over giving her a shy smile.

"Hey! Give yourself some credit Nate. You did a lot of it yourself too and having basketball on top of it all too," she interjected to the conversation.

"God, you too are so adorable," Quinn commented to the pair.

Haley turned her head giving her a stern look. She was already nervous sitting so close to him, that she didn't need her sister making her more anxious.

"Hales in a Ravens cheer outfit now that was adorable," Nathan spoke before taking a sip of his beer.

"Seriously, you had to bring that up," she commented to him hitting him lightly on the arm.

"What, it's true. It's nothing to be embarrassed about Hales," He spoke trying to reassure her.

"Yeah Haley Bob. You made a really sexy cheerleader," Quinn spoke as she saw Nathan's smile get bigger.

"It's all Brooke's fault she is the one that wanted me to join the team in the first place," Haley tried to explain to Clay who was just listening to them all talking.

"Actually since we are telling the truth. I may have asked Brooke to make sure you were on the team," Nathan confessed softly.

"What? Why! You knew how footloose I was?" She questioned not being to wrap her head around his confession.

"I guess I just saw it as a way of getting to spend some time with you outside of tutoring. Which I know sounds kind of like I'm making excuses for my actions. I could have asked you to just hang out together. I didn't want to get rejected when we had such a good friendship," He spoke finally looking at her.

"I need to get some water," she spoke getting up heading back in the house.

"Fuck! I think I just blew my chances with her," he spoke wondering if he had gone too far. It was out there now and he couldn't take it back.

"No you haven't. She just needs a second to process it," Quinn commented to him.

"I think I should go check on her," he spoke going back into the house.

"Okay, we will be out here if you need us," clay shouted to him.

-x-

"Hey, are you okay?" He asked nervously watching her.

"Yeah I'm great. You basically confessed your feelings for me in front of my sister and her boyfriend," she spoke not making eye contact with him.

"I was just being honest Hales. A lot of what I just said probably should have been said in private to you tomorrow," he spoke walking a little closer to her.

"You think or were you just not thinking," she spat out feeling her emotions take over.

"I'm sorry! I'm just trying to do the right thing here Hales. We both have a lot of different feelings resurfacing between us," he spoke finally standing in front of her taking her hands in his.

"You don't need to apologize for being yourself. I just wasn't expecting tonight to take on a life of its own. You did say things would get interesting and they definitely have," she spoke trying to lighten the mood between them.

"Have I blown my chances?" He asked with a smirk.

"Wipe that smirk of your face. No you haven't blown your chances yet," she spoke looking into his eyes seeing something she had never seen before.

"Think we could make up with a kiss?" He questioned confidently

"Don't push your luck buddy. I wouldn't say no to a hug," she flirted back to him.

Nathan laughed before pulling her into a tight hug resting his chin on the top of her head.

Not realising that they had been in the kitchen for some time. Quinn and Clay made it back in since it had starting raining.

"Well I think it's time I headed home," Haley spoke pulling away from Nathan.

"Um not to spoil your moment but it's pouring outside and you have both been drinking," Quinn commented to the pair.

"Great!," Haley mumbled

"You guys can just share the guest room," Clay suggested to them.

"Hales, you okay with that?" Nathan asked seeing the uncertainty on her face.

"Well we don't really have a better option. Quinn can I borrow some pjs?," she asked knowing she couldn't sleep in her clothes, if she was to have a date with Nathan tomorrow.

"I have clothes in my car I can wear," he spoke heading out to get them.

"Haley bob, don't be nervous, it's just one night," commented to her younger sister.

Easy of you to say she thought to herself. When she knew Quinn had already lost her virginity unlike her.

Both she and Nathan now knew that tonight was going to be the ultimate test for them. After only starting to reconnect with each other in a short time ago.
