Find Our Future ch30

Trying to have a much needed sleep in, Haley was rudely woken from her sleep by the sounds of crashing pots and pans coming from her kitchen

She begrudgingly got out of bed and walked towards the kitchen, anxious to see who was making such a racket this early in the morning.

"Morning tutor girl," the raspy voice spoke finally seeing Haley come in to view.

"What the hell are you doing here Brooke? How did you even manage to get in?" She questioned not overly amused to see her friend standing in her kitchen.

"I came to see you and I used my key to get in Hales", she replied with her usual cheery smile.

"You seriously thought after our last conversation that would be okay by me?" she questioned staring her down.

"Well yeah I'm still your best friend Haley," she commented quietly to her.

Running her hands through her hair "you're unbelievable Brooke. I can't deal with you right now. I'm going to have a shower", she groaned turning on her heels.

"Well, I'll be here when your done and maybe we can have a talk then. I think we need to clear the air about a few things."

"Whatever!" Haley groaned as she finally walked away heading to the bathroom.

"Quinn, I'm so mad right now. How could she possibly think showing up unannounced was going to be okay with me?"

"Haley Bob, I'm not sticking up for her or anything, but maybe she felt like she didn't have a choice." Quinn spoke trying to reason with her.

"What do you mean by that?" Haley questioned rather quickly feeling more angry by the second.

"Haley, can you honestly say that if you knew she was coming that you would have even let her in, let alone stay with you?"

"No, of course not. I would have sent her straight over to Nathan." Haley quipped trying to find the humour in the situation.

"Yeah and Brooke probably knew that. Hence why she showed up the way she did. Has she said anything yet?"

"Well I wasn't overly friendly with her, so I left to go take a shower but called you instead. She did say that she wanted to talk."

"You know what Haley, go shower and then put your big girl pants on. Go hear what she has to say to you. At the end of the day you can't keep putting it off forever." She spoke trying to encourage her and reassure her.

"Fine! I guess you're right. I'll call you later, bye."

After her shower, Haley took a few minutes to get her thoughts together. "Hi Brooke, sorry I was a bit harsh earlier." Haley spoke coming back into the kitchen.

"It's okay. I know I'm not really your favorite person right now." She replied looking over at her.

"Umm yeah, you're right about that. Do you think we could talk? I know I never really gave you the chance to explain your side of the story and that was wrong of me, but I'm ready to listen now." Haley spoke as she played nervously with the ring on her finger.

"Sure," Brooke replied smiling softly at her.

The girls walked into the living room together where they sat on opposite sofas to begin their conversation with each other.

"Haley, first off I want to say how sorry I am for how I shared that piece of information with you. I honestly thought you knew what happened."

"No, I didn't know. That's why it was such a big shock and I reacted the way I did."

"Again I'm sorry Haley. You have to know that it didn't mean anything. I have absolutely no feelings for Nathan whatsoever."

"Okay, but why didn't you tell me about it before now? You have known forever how much I liked him."

"When it first happened, I wanted to tell you, I did. I also knew that it would crush you, so I thought it was best to keep it a secret."

"So you just thought I would never find out?" Haley asked trying to remain calm and collected.

"Truthfully yes."

"Well look how that one turned out Brooke." She spoke raising her voice slightly.

"Haley please! You have to understand that if I ever thought there was going to be a Naley, then I would have never let it happen."

"Yes, but it did happen Brooke, and you never told me about it."

"I'm sorry,"

"Stop saying that. Can you even begin to understand how betrayed and hurt I must be feeling right now? You are supposed to be my best friend."

"I still am Haley," she whispered feeling the hurt coming from Haley.

"I'm not so sure anymore Brooke. You knew my thoughts on sex and then to go and do it with the one person you knew I liked. Even worse to put it on tape, and for me to find out now only because you slipped up breaks all the rules of girl code Brooke."

"Haley, I was trying not to hurt you."

"Yeah well finding out this way has hurt me even more then you can ever imagine. I'm really questioning if I'm good enough for him now? Does he feel the same way you do?" She spoke wiping the tears from her eyes.

"Haley, you know the only person that can answer that is Nathan."

"I know, I just don't think I can face him yet. I'm still trying to process all this information. Him sleeping around when we were younger I can deal with. It's finding out that my so called friend did it and had no intention of ever telling me that I'm struggling with."

"Haley, if I could go back and change it, I would. I'm sorry that I can't, but let me just say one more thing?"

"Okay," she answered looking over at her waiting to hear what else she had to say.

"Nathan isn't the same guy he was in high school. The first day you called him out on this, he called me and was so heartbroken over hurting you like this. I understand this isn't easy for you, but Nathan is a changed man and he loves you with all his heart. Please don't give up on the idea of being with him because of one stupid past mistake, that doesn't mean anything."

"That's the thing Brooke, it matters to me. I just don't think you understand how much this is affecting me. You knew how insecure I was about sex. Actually you knew how insecure I was about even the thought of wearing a bikini or being naked in front of him. Now with all this coming out, I can't help but feel that he is going to compare me to all his other experiences." She spoke even more frustrated and emotional now.

"Haley, you can't think like that. You're beautiful and Nathan loves you."

"Brooke, I don't know if I can believe you, let alone trust you right now."

"Haley please," she tried reasoning with her.

"Brooke, you know what? I think I have heard enough for right now. I think it's best if you go."

"Come on Haley, don't be like that. We can still sort all this out." She protested trying to get Haley to listen to her.

"No Brooke, I gave you the chance to explain your side of the story, and you did. But now I'm done listening."

"Haley please," she pleaded again.

"Brooke please! Just go before I say something that I'm really going to regret." She spoke trying her hardest to keep her emotions in check.

"Okay, once again I really am sorry Haley." She spoke before leaving just like Haley had asked of her.

"Nathan Royal Scott, what the hell have you done to my best friend?" Brooke shouted as she burst in the boardroom, right in the middle of Nathan's meeting.

"Why, what's wrong with Haley?" He asked jumping up fearing that she was in some kind of danger since she hadn't replied to his text this morning.

"She is a broken woman and it's all out fault. That's what's wrong with her. We need to fix it now." She spoke like he was totally clueless to the situation.

"Um Nathan, this really isn't the place or time for this," Clay commented to him.

"Sorry Clay,"

"Hey Brooke, do you think we could step outside to talk?" Nathan spoke getting up slightly embarrassed by her outburst in front of his work colleagues

Brooke finally stopped her rant and looked around the room, realizing that she had in fact interrupted one of his meetings.

"Oh right, sorry everyone." She spoke just as embarrassed as the guys.

Nathan led her out of the boardroom, excusing himself from the meeting and leading her over to his office.

"Brooke, what are you even doing here? I thought you were in New York"

"I was, but after not hearing from Haley since I let the cat out of the bag, I knew I needed to come here and try and sort out the mess I made between you and Haley."

"Brooke, please tell me you didn't go see Haley? I'm trying to give her space and time to process her feelings, and you just probably made things a 1,000 times worse."

"Of course I went to see her. I needed to sort things out with her. I doubt things can get any worse Nathan."

"How did that work out for you Brooke?" He asked with a sarcastic tone to his voice.

"Um honestly not so good, but I'm actually glad that I talked to Haley because it helped me understand a bit about where she's coming from and where her head is at. " she answered not making eye contact with him.

"Brooke what did you say to her? Please tell me you haven't made things worse for me," he questioned seeing the change in her expressions.

"Umm maybe," she answered finally looking in his direction.

"Brooke, what did you say?" He questioned fearing what her answer was going to be

"Um, I may have said that I never had any intentions of telling her about the tape." She answered softly.

"Seriously Brooke! Now what is she going to think about me? Does she think I was feeling the same way? That couldn't be farther from the truth," he spoke starting to pace up and down his office.

"I'm sorry Nathan. That was one of her questions when I was talking with her. Nathan I'm truly sorry about all of this. You know what I'm like, I just start talking and then go off on one. Then things just come out and I don't even realize until it's too late."

"Yeah, you really need to work on that one Brooke. Now I have to try and sort this out when we were just starting to slowly get back on track."

"I thought she asked you for space?"

"She did and I'm respecting that, but the other night I went to Clay's and she was there, and it was so nice to just have a night without all the drama. At the end of the evening I walked her out to her car and we chatted a little, and then she hugged me. Brooke that moment means everything to me right now."

"You don't want me filling Haley's head with more doubts about everything?"

"Yeah, pretty much,"

"Okay, I get that Nathan, I do, but did you really have intentions of telling Haley about this yourself?"

"Of course I wanted to tell her Brooke, but there hasn't been a right moment to have that talk yet. Let's face it, my past is a lot more colorful then Haley's and I didn't know how to bring it up without hurting her in some way."

"Well now we definitely have hurt her more then we both intended to. She did confess that she feels insecure about her body and now that she has the added pressure of thinking that she has some sort of standard to live up to, I'm worried. I was trying to reassure her that she is beautiful and you love her just the way she is, but I don't think she was really hearing me. Maybe now is best to go see your girl and have it out with her."

"Like she is even going to let me in after her conversation with you."

"Nathan, that's what relationships are about. Fighting every day for the people we love and stepping up when we screw up, and finding a way to fix it. I know you're respecting her space right now, but after the mess I made of things this morning, trust me, you are the one person that Haley really needs to hear from."

"I really hope you're right Brooke. I can't lose her all over again."

"I truly am sorry Nathan."

"It's not your fault Brooke. You didn't know that Haley and I hadn't had that conversation yet, so you didn't intentionally mess things up. That's all on me."

"You know what Nathan, you really have changed. I can see how much you love Haley and just want to protect her. I think I like this version of you better then the one I knew in high school."

"You know what Brooke, even though you got us into this mess, I could say the same about you too."

"Okay enough about us. Go fight for your girl and I'll hopefully see you when it's all sorted out."

"Wish me luck," he spoke grabbing his keys and rushing out of the office.

"Where is he off to now?" Clay questioned to Brooke.

"To get the girl of his dreams."
