Chapter 1: Alone
Nessie's POV
I started crying because I didn't know where I was. I was hunting with momma, daddy, and Jacob when something attacked me. When I woke up I was in this strange new place. I couldn't smell momma, daddy, Jacob anywhere.
I walked around everywhere looking for my family but I couldn't find them. I was only two months old and I was scared. I sat down and started crying.
"Are you okay?"
I looked up and saw a little boy standing right in front of me. The boy's smell surprised me. It wasn't entirely human or vampire. This boy was just like me.
"My name is Lucas. What is your name?"
"Renesmee," I was still crying.
He laughed. "That's a funny name,"
"Lucas!" a woman shouted. "There you are! I told you not to run off like that!" she scooped up the little boy into her arms.
"I'm sorry auntie Lisa but look! She's like me," he pointed at me. "She's just like me,"
The woman who'd come running to him looked over at me curiously. This woman was human just like grandpa Charlie. She looked friendly.
"Are you sure Lucas?"
"Yes I can smell it. You're half vampire like me, right?"
I didn't know what to say. Momma and daddy had always told me that it was very important that humans don't find out what I am. But it seemed like this human already knew.
"Yes,"
"What's your name?"
"It's Renesmee but my family calls me Nessie," I cried again when I remembered my family.
"Where are your parents?"
"I don't know. I was with them and then something attacked me and now I'm here and I don't know what happened to me,"
"Where do you live? Maybe I can help you find your family. My name is Lisa by the way,"
"I'm from Forks,"
"all the way from Washington? That's weird. That's so far away,"
"Where am I?"
"We are in Houston, Texas,"
I didn't know where that was at but I didn't like it. I just wanted to be with my momma and daddy.
"Do your parents phone numbers?"
I don't know.
"Nessie why don't you come stay with us for awhile and I promise that I will do everything that I can to help you find your parents,"
I wasn't sure what to say at first. But she was nice and she wanted to help me. "Okay," I said.
"Ohhh," the boy smiled happily. "Auntie do you think we could get McDonald's for dinner tonight?"
Lisa looked sad and then she said "No Lucas you can't have McDonald's for dinner,"
"Why not?"
"Because I don't have enough money that's why,"
"But I thought you had that food stamp card now," he said really sadly.
"It won't work at McDonald's,"
No? Can't have? What did those words mean? I never heard those words before. I knew a lot of words but I didn't know those words. Also what was a food stamp card?
I tried to figure out what No meant as we walked but I just didn't understand. We walked to a large building that looked like it had hundreds of doors. I'd never seen such a place before. We walked up some stairs and I saw more doors.
We walked to a door that had the number 203. Lisa opened the door and said "Come on in Nessie,"
"Look over here is the bathroom and over here is my room,"
"and that room is mine," Lucas smiled as he pointed to another room. This place was very very small. My room at the big house was way bigger than both of these rooms together.
"It's small,"
"That's because we live in an apartment
"Why don't you two go play while I cook something to eat?" she said.
Lucas grabbed my hand "Come on Nessie. I want to show you my toys,"
He led me to his room. He showed me his toys. He didn't have a lot of toys. I was surprised that he only had a few toys to play with. My parents, my aunts, my uncles, my grandparents, and Jacob bought me brand new toys all the time.
"This one is my favorite. It's a T-Rex. But you can play with it if you want to," he handed me the toy so I could play with it.
"Lucas what does no mean?" I asked. "I mean earlier when she said no to you what did that mean?"
He looked at me funny. "When she says no it means I can't have something I want,"
"What does can't have mean?"
"You don't know what that means? If I can't have something my auntie is not going to get it for me,"
"My family never says that to me,"
His eyes went wide. "You mean they say yes every time you ask for something?"
"Yes,"
"Wow that must be really cool. My auntie says no because most of the time she doesn't have enough money,"
"Why do you live with your aunt instead of your mommy and daddy?"
He looked really sad. "Because my mommy died when I was born. She asked my auntie to take care of me. I don't know who my daddy is,"
"When did she die?"
"Two months ago,"
He was two months old just like me. I liked this boy. He was really nice. I had fun playing with him. Even if his room was very small.
"Kids dinner is ready," I heard Lisa say.
The food didn't look very good but I knew I had to eat it. Grandpa always said that it was very important for me to eat human food. Grandma always cooked me the best food. This food didn't look very good. Especially the yellow stuff on the plate. But Lucas seemed to like it.
These people were nice but I didn't understand them. Why did they live in such a tiny space? Why didn't Lucas have a lot of toys? Why didn't his auntie just buy new toys for him? What was a food stamp card? I had a lot of questions.
I missed my family and I missed all of my stuff. I wanted to go back home.
