AU where Danny was a full ghost who became half human because of his portal accident
Danny died at a young age, but his spirit lived on–literally. His parents allowed his ghost to hang around their house, continuing to raise him as if nothing happened. But deep inside, both Jack and Maddie both longed for him to be alive again. At least they still had Jazz…
Fast-forward to when Danny would've been fourteen. It was a dark and stormy afternoon when Jack and Maddie built the Fenton Portal. They couldn't stand the ghost of their son living with them anymore, and built the portal with the intention of sending him off to live with others of his kind. The portal was almost complete.
Sam and Tucker were friends with Danny when he was alive, and continued to be so after his death. They were by his side one night in the lab. The portal was one vital component away from completion, but what it was, even Jack and Maddie didn't know.
"Aren't you the least bit interested to see what's on the other side?" Sam asked.
"No," Danny groaned, "I'm not ready to leave my family and friends behind."
"You weren't ready to die," Tucker snarked.
"Nobody is," Sam slapped him on the back.
She turned back to Danny's ghost.
"All the same, I dare you to go in there!"
Danny chuckled. Then he look a closer look at Sam's face. She was serious!
"Well, the thing doesn't work and I'm already dead," Danny admitted, "What's the worse that happen?"
He floated inside, while Sam and Tucker watched from afar. Danny explored the inside of the portal, running his fingers through (literally) the exposed wires. Then his palm hit something.
It felt like he pressed a button.
It was a button.
It was the ON button.
Suddenly, the portal sprang to life for the first time.
Meanwhile, upstairs in their bedroom, Jack and Maddie were frightened by the electricity blacking out for a few seconds before going back on again.
"What was that?" said Maddie.
"It felt like it came from the basement," said Jack, "Come on, Maddie!"
The parents ran down the two flights of stairs to their lab. Before them were Tucker and Sam, looking ahead in shock…and awe, somehow. In front of them was Danny, ejected from the now-fully-functional portal, looking more flesh-toned than transparent.
Danny woke up. He let out a sigh of relief—then he stopped himself. He let out a sigh? The last time he was able to do that was when he was alive. He looked down at his hands, and threw them down on the floor: They did not phase through like they usually did.
"What's happening?" said Danny, confused by the situation.
Then he felt a cold breeze from the middle of his body, which spread out until he felt the dead, lifeless feeling he was all too familiar with. Then the cold feeling went away, and with it, the feeling of lifelessness.
Jack's pupils shrank. Maddie's enlarged. The conclusion was simple: Danny had his mortality back. Well, half of it, really, but that's good enough for the parents.
"My baby!" cried Maddie, as she smothered Danny's head in her…chest, and kissed his head like no tomorrow.
The long-standing storm had finally abated, ensuring a bright, clear blue sky from that day forward.
Unless the Phic Phight website finally makes the 2021 prompts public, this'll be the last one. Thank you very much for reading.
