The next morning, I wake up and groan. How is it tomorrow already? It's time to go to work Meredith. Pull up your big girl pants and deal with it.

Cristina, Izzie and I are able to make it to the resident's lounge without running into anyone. We part ways after we've dropping our stuff off, I find my interns and we head to our first patient. "Wilson, present." "This is Susan, she is 32 weeks pregnant and is showing signs of confusion, disorientation and has been vomiting," says Jo Wilson. "Thank you, Dr. Wilson. Now can anyone tell me what we should be doing?" A hand shoots up. "Yes, Edwards?" "We should be doing blood work, getting a CT scan and paging neuro and OB for consults," says Stephanie Edwards. "Correct, Dr. Edwards, please page both and have them meet us here in about 15 minutes," I say. "Susan, we will be right back to check on you." I walk out of the room and do my best not to lose it. Figures, my first patient and I need consults from both of them. Maybe they will be busy in surgery and I will get other attendings from those departments. Oh, who I am kidding, it's going to be them, that's my luck.

I walk back into the room and right into Derek. "Oh, my apologies Dr. Shepard. I didn't see you there," I say. "Not a problem. What do you need a consult on?" he asks. Before I can say anything, Addison walks in. "Dr. Shepard, Dr. Grey, what can I help with?" I turn to Wilson, "Wilson, present please." I let Wilson do the talking while I watch Derek and Addison interact with the patient and each other. They agree with a CT and we all leave the room. "Meredith, can I speak to you please?" Derek says before I can walk away. "Sure, let's go," I say as Addison gives me a look. She looks like she's going to say something, but she just walks away. Derek and I make our way to an on-call room.

"Meredith, what happened last night?" "I honestly don't know. One minute, everything was fine and then in the next, I find out you and Addison were having sex in a library and had dated for two and a half years. Two and a half years Derek! Don't you think you should have told me?" I say, pacing the floor. Derek explodes, "what did you expect me to say? Meredith, this is Mark and this is Addison, my ex-girlfriend of two and a half years?! We dated ages ago, I told you last night that I don't think of her that way, she's dating Mark now. She's my friend, nothing else." I walk over to him and give him a hug. "I understand what you are saying, I just don't know how I feel about you being friends with an ex," I say. "Well, I'm not giving up my friendship with her Meredith. She's been in my life for a long time and I won't throw that away," he says, upset. "I'm not asking you to give up your friendship. I just need time to get used to it and understand it. I'm not going to be a bitch to her, at least not on purpose. Just give me some time please," I say. Derek stands up to leave. "You can have your time, but I won't wait forever for you to be ok with this. She's my friend and yes, sometimes you will hear stories from when we were dating. They are in the past. You are my present and hopefully my future."

As we are walking out of the room, we both get paged. We race to the patient's room to find out she needs surgery right away. Derek, Addison and I are all in the scrub room while others are prepping the patient. While I'm scrubbing, I turn to Addison and say "I'm sorry about last night. I wasn't expecting to find out that you had and Derek dated, let alone hear a story about you two having sex." Addison nods. "I understand and I'm sorry for bringing up that story. I didn't realize you didn't know and should have checked with Derek first." I nod and we walk in to start surgery.
