Two years have passed for the anthropomorphic heroes. Sonic, like many times before, promised Amy to a date. However, this time around, things were different...

A blue hedgehog was pacing frantically in a tiny room. Within the room was a disgruntled, yellow fox, tinkering at a new contraption.

"You'll make a hole in my floor..." Tails muttered in annoyance.

"Sorry... I just, don't wanna go!"

"Never stopped you before," Tails was right. Sonic had been on countless dates with Amy; most with interruptions, but overall, nothing ever serious.

"Konkai wa kibun ga chigaimasu..." Tails' ears pricked up at Sonic's incomprehensible choice of words.

"You're doing it again. You only speak that language when nervous or hiding something."

"Ore wa kakusa rete imasen- uuugghhhh... I'm NOT hiding anything! I can think of better things to do with my time. Chaos knows what Amy has planned," Sonic crossed his arms, pouting. He glanced at Tails' clock on the wall. It was about time he left, or he'd be late. He let out a sigh, waved bye to Tails and pelted it out the door with a gust of wind.

After five minutes, Sonic skidded to a halt outside of Amy's house. His stomach suddenly tightened into a corkscrew. Right now, he'd give anything to be fighting a rogue Eggman mech. He slowly walked to the front of her welcoming and ornate house. He was just about to knock on the door when it flew open to a bubbly, pink hedgehog standing in front of him.

"Sonic!" she cried in excitement, "You're just in time!" she grabbed the confused male hedgehog and led him on a wild journey he had no control over. Amy broke the usual formality where she treated Sonic to a date, compared to the other way around. Sonic smiled inside as he was always honoured she went to great length. She even thought about various areas Sonic would enjoy; a theme park was one, the beach during a sunset and just chilling on straw in a farmyard. Amy was always patient with him. He looked at her from the side whilst she dragged him to the mysterious destination, muttering to herself excitedly. She'd gone to the effort of changing her outfit. She wore a purple dress and maroon boots. Her longer quill at the back was always tied up, but she kept it down for today. It suited and complimented her. Sonic felt his face burn; he focused instead with what was in her hand to cool him down. She was clutching a picnic basket in her other hand that was happily swinging as she jogged. This meant she had gone to the effort of making food for him. This was great! He adored Amy's cooking.

A few minutes passed as Sonic continued to wonder where Amy was taking him. They'd breezed by the hustle and bustle of last minute shoppers in the main town, jogged past the golden beach and were heading to the forest outside of town. Sonic was starting to feel apprehensive. He wasn't sure where she'd decided to take him.

"Amy, where-?"

"Hush now, Sonic! It's a surprise!" the pink hedgehog interrupted matter-of-factly. Sonic held his tongue, watching the sun slowly beginning to set between the trees. They climbed up a small hill when the pink hedgehog let go of Sonic's hand and ushered him under the tree. The blue hedgehog peered over the hill and saw the entire view of Central City. He let out an awed expression. Amy was giggling at the sight of his awestruck face.

"I knew you'd like it!" she laid a blanket down for them to sit on and set the food on display. Amy had made most of Sonic's favourites; including chili dogs, sausage rolls, sandwiches filled with cheese, ham, tomato, rolls of sushi, and a side of pasta with Spagonia's famous tomato sauce. The male hedgehog's mouth was watering at the sight of all this luscious food. He loved food as much as he loved running. Grabbing a chili dog, he dug into it no problem. Amy smiled sweetly at him.

All seemed quiet on this secluded hill. Both hedgehogs didn't talk much as they filled their stomachs. Amy knew Sonic wasn't talkative at times; a lot of the time he kept to himself unless Eggman was in the fray. She admired this aspect of him.

Sonic was happily munching away when his ears pricked up from a familiar sound in the distance. He could hear an engine whirring frantically, getting closer and closer. Suddenly, Sonic jumped out of the way at lightning speed from Metal Sonic. The robot copy flew out of no-where, ready to ambush the unsuspecting hedgehogs. Metal had destroyed parts of the picnic in his attempt to shave Sonic's quills. The organic blue hedgehog coaxed the robot away from Amy, ready to attack. Sonic merely smirked at the emotionless copy.

Ducks, twists, spins and hand to hand combat; Sonic and Metal were not giving up this fight! During the commotion, the female hedgehog dropped to her knees at the mess that had been made. She spent all morning making these dishes... now, most of them were ruined. Her infamous anger took over as she pulled a large hammer out of thin air: her Piko Piko Hammer! Amy ran at Metal, swung her hammer, and hit the robot directly. It flew backwards in the air until it steadied itself, hovering to asses the new contender. Sonic whistled in amazement at Amy's brute strength. He let his guard down, emitting a smile. That was his Amy... wait... "his" Amy? What was he thinking? His thoughts disappeared as Metal came for another blow. Sonic dodged with ease, feeling the adrenaline inside of him.

"AMY!" he called for the frantic, pink hedgehog. He had a plan, "Fastball, let's go!" Amy nodded at the call of command. She readied her stance at a stationary spinning Sonic. His spin became faster and faster until he gave the signal. At the signal, Amy swung her hammer round and pelted into Sonic. A blue ball went hurtling towards Metal. The robot was knocked out of the air and came crashing to the ground. Sonic uncurled from his constant spinning and cheered. He landed on the ground gracefully as he watched Metal struggle to get up and limp into the sky.

"Don't hurry back!" he shouted. He wheeled around, expecting to hear Amy laugh at his cockiness but was shocked to see her look glum. Her position was hunched, she stared at the ground, ears lowered and clutched herself.

"Amy?" Sonic said softly. The pink hedgehog dropped to her knees and started to cry quietly. Sonic's heart sank, this was no time for her to start crying, they worked as a team. He gingerly approached the now sobbing hedgehog. Sonic didn't know what to do; if it was any one of his other friends, he'd cheer them up no problem, feeding that positive energy he had, but Amy? He held his breath, puffed his cheeks and chest out and knelt beside her, putting a shaky hand around her back.

"Amy, what's wrong?" he cooed. Amy lifted her tear stained cheeks.

"I wanted it to be perfect..." she choked. "Every time I ask you on a date, this always happens! I don't even know why I bother any more! You don't even love me!" Sonic fell backwards on his backside at her harsh tone. He could feel himself get hotter and hotter by the second until...

"Itoshi teru, Eimī!" the blue hedgehog blurted out, but quickly covered his mouth. His cheeks burnt red and sweat trickled down his forehead.

"What?" Amy looked up in confusion. Sonic spoke in a completely different language. He always had a different accent to the rest of her friends that he never opened up about. Now and again, especially when stressed or hiding something, he would explode an array of words no-one but Knuckles understood.

"Nanimonai!" he was doing it again. Amy had stopped crying, she reached out to grab the flustered, blue hedgehog's arms.

"Sonic...?"

"Wakatta! Shikatanai!" the flight mechanism had kicked in as Sonic wanted to run as far away from this place. Amy firmly grabbed him to stop him going anywhere.

"Sonic, stop. Breathe..." the male hedgehog opened his lime green eyes and bore into Amy's own emerald. He let out a sigh and began.

"I know how you feel Amy... I'm not sure I can repay the same feelings," Amy's eyes began tearing up, but continued to stare at Sonic. "It's why I run away, because..."

"Because...?" Sonic looked away, composed himself and lightly put his hands on Amy's shoulder.

"My soul is tied to Chaos. This means, if I want to, you know, love and that, that person will be tied with me. She would be my goddess..." Amy nodded.

"I can't force that on anyone. "She'd" always have a part of my soul in her... I can't-" Amy put a finger to his lips, stopping him from talking any further.

"I know. You think I'm stupid, Sonic?! We all know you're amazing power, and I accept this. I want to be beside you, no matter what. But, you have to be honest, do you love me or not?"

Sonic finally made up his mind. He held Amy's hands and looked directly in her mysterious, green eyes.

"I love you, Amy Rose," suddenly, his chest glowed a sparkling green. It surrounded him, forming a green aura. It then covered Amy, bringing her closer to her new lover she'd been chasing for years. Her chest felt hot and like it was pulling her heart away. Sonic felt the same, painful feeling. The green aura, disappeared and crashed into Sonic's chest. He let go of Amy from the force and she fell to the ground.

"AMY!" Sonic cried, running to her aid. He lifted her head from the ground, anxiously waiting for her eyes to open.

"Uggghhh... Sonic?"

"Amy, I'm sorry, I didn't know it would happen like that!"

"What was it?"

"Our souls are tied together, forever," he looked away, awaiting her response.

"I love you, Sonic!" tears streamed down Amy's cheeks again as she nuzzled into Sonic's chest. He blushed at her response. Instinctively, he raised Amy's head, brought his closer to hers and embraced a magical kiss. Both hedgehogs felt their stomachs lurch and souls feel alit with overwhelming energy. This was their first kiss, and the both of them didn't want it to end. Sonic was the first to pull away as he whispered in Amy's ear.

"If I'm not around and you need me, call me, and I'll come," Amy was confused by this instruction, but cuddled into Sonic regardless. He'd finally opened up to her and it felt amazing. They watched the sunset together, thinking up possibilities of new adventures.
