Welcome survivors to my Walking Dead Fanfiction where we shall follow my OC who will strive to survive in a world where the dead walk and the biggest threat..are the living. So I have loved the Walking Dead ever since I saw the first episode. From the comics, to the AMC TV Show, to the TellTale Video Games I can say that this did the Zombie Genre justice. I will change a few events in the show because some of the ideas are always cool to speculate. So I hope you guys enjoy this story as much as I will.
Note: I don't own the Walking Dead as it was created by Robert Kirkman
Chapter 1 - What Lies Ahead
Nobody knows how it started. How the end of the world came. All anyone knows is that the dead walk the earth. You get bit, scratched, nawed on, you're going to become one of them, the undead or what they're commonly referred to as. Walkers. The common knowledge about them is that noise attracts them like a moth to a flame other than that they're just gonna stumble around. Killing them is simply destroying the brain, a bullet to the head, a stab or slash will also do but getting up close is a lot more dangerous. The infection was named Wildfire and it spread quickly through the world causing society to collapse and now it's all about survival. At any cost.
"At this crucial time in our lives, when everything is so desperate, when every day is a matter of survival, I don't think you can help but be involved." - Nina Simone
A survivor walked down the heading to Atlanta in hopes of finding anyone else that might've still been alive. His name is Logan Hunter he came from a Scottish lineage but his parents moved to the states when he was three. His light brown hair and blue eyes were unmistakable but his skin was slightly paler than others thanks to being from Scotland. He was only seventeen when it all started. His parents were already dead when he tried to get home. All he has left is his radio that he often would use every morning to try and search for anyone else that might've been still alive.
In terms of his weapons he only has two of them both belonging to his dad resting on either side of his belt. Holstered on his right is a Smith & Wesson Model 69 Revolver which he only uses when he's desperate and to his left is a SOG Voodoo Hawk Tactical Tomahawk that his dad bought because he thought it was cool. He only took them after he put his parents down which was the hardest thing he'd ever thought he'd do.
Logan slowly pulled the blue jeep wrangler that he had found its back completely stocked with plenty of canned food and water. The jeep came to a halt as its driver climbed out a GT60S walkie talkie attached to his belt.
Pulling his radio off his belt Logan switched it to another station. "This is Logan Hunter Longitude North 33.7490, West 84.3880 I am a mile outside the city of Atlanta Georgia. I have food, water, and other supplies if anyone is out there please respond." He heard nothing but static. "If anyone is out there..anyone..you aren't alone." One again like so many times before he heard nothing..nothing but static which made him slump against the door of his vehicle slowly falling to the street below. He was starting to finally lose hope of ever getting an answer.
That's when his radio came to life. "Hello?" A voice came through. "Is there anyone on the other side of this channel? Please respond."
Logan's eyes lit up as he quickly grabbed his radio. "Yes. Hello. Who is this?"
"My name is Rick Grimes. Who am I speaking to?"
"My name is Logan. Logan Hunter. It's nice to meet you Rick. I'm a mile outside of Atlanta looking for survivors."
"Are you alone?"
A lump came up in Logan's throat. "Yes. It's just me. I have food, water, firearms, ammunition, and gas. If you are with anyone I swear I mean no harm to anyone. I'm just trying to survive, I promise you that." His radio went silent for a moment. "Hello?" Nothing came through. "Are you still there? Please respond." Nothing still and just like that the hope he held died as he laid his head down on the hood of the jeep his eyes closed.
"What vehicle are you in?"
And just like that his hope returned. "A blue Jeep Wrangler."
"You said you're a mile out of Atlanta?"
"Yes."
"There's a quarry. That's where I am. Once you get here you will step out of your vehicle hands over your head. Clear?"
Logan didn't like the idea but understood why he was being asked. "Understood."
"Go North West of Atlanta 33.77982, -84.43493. I'll be waiting."
At least that's how he met the others at the old quarry outside of Atlanta. They were good people, knew how to survive, and knew how to work together. Unfortunately the quarry wasn't safe anymore and they lost a lot of good people there. So the group moved on and headed to the CDC in Atlanta in hopes of finding salvation and at first they did. Dr. Edwin Jenner told them or rather showed them what happens when someone turns into a walker. But the group's salvation wasn't to last as Jenner didn't have a cure or vaccine for the disease that caused the dead to come back to life. Instead Jenner and one of the group's people, Jacqui stayed behind while the CDC building was destroyed in an explosion.
The hope they had before was gone so they started to travel on the highway heading to the coast in hopes of finding something. Unfortunately the RV broke down again on a cluttered highway so the group had to stop in order to fix it. They decided to see if they could find any kind of supplies in the abandoned cars and trucks, maybe something that'll fix the RV's engine.
Logan stepped out of his jeep, closing the door as he patted Sophia on the shoulder as he walked by her. "Stay by the cars and stay close to your mom alright?"
"Alright." She said with a smile.
Logan had kinda become a sort of older brother to her and Carl since they were the youngest ones in the group. "Good." With a smile he walked away looking to find a car to search, opening the door to a station wagon. "Alright. Let's see what's behind door number one." He looked inside a bunch of boxes finding a nice david outwear tactical jacket in great condition and it was navy blue, his favorite color. "Score." Logan tried it on and it was a perfect fit and he looked over at Carol who smiled. "How do I look?"
"It suits you."
Logan returned to the box but didn't find anything else that was useful. "Shit."
Shane found a truck filled with several large five gallon water jugs and with joy he popped one open and was practically drowning in it. "Hey Glenn! Check it out!"
Glenn looked up and smiled. "Hey save some for the rest of us!"
"It's like getting baptized man!"
While the group was searching for supplies a herd of walkers descended on them forcing most of them to hide underneath the cars in hopes of them passing quickly. Unfortunately when they thought it was clear Sohpia was attacked by a walker but managed to slip away and ran into the woods. The herd had finally thinned out by that time but once they passed Logan saw Rich chase after Sohia. Logan climbed out from under the car he was underneath and quickly took out his tomahawk and drove it down into the top of a lone walker's skull. Lowering to the ground to avoid attracting attention from any more that might've lagged behind the herd.
Logan ran over to the others once he did as Carol had screamed for Sophia. "Should we go after them?"
Glenn and Shane had run over with Shane saying. "Better wait it out, Rick will take care of her."
Logan didn't want to wait Sophia is just a little girl and she could be lost or hurt…or dead. Now that's something he didn't want to think about because Sophia is far too innocent for the world as it is but right now he waited.
It didn't take long for Rick to return, unfortunately Sophia wasn't with him so Logan, Glenn, Daryl, and Shane went with him to the spot where he left her.
Daryl looked under what were some tree roots in a creek. "You sure this was the spot?"
"I left her right here. I drew the walkers off in that direction." He said pointing towards the other side of the creek. "She was gone by the time I got back."
Logan looked off in the direction Rick pointed towards. "So she must've gotten spooked by something and took off running."
"Walker?" Glenn asked.
"I don't see any other footprints." Darryl said while inspecting the trail.
"So we all pressin on?" Shane asked.
"You and Glenn go back up to the highway, people are gonna start panicking. Keep everyone calm, and let them know we're on her trail."
"I'll keep 'em busy. C'mon." Shane motioned Glenn to follow and the two headed off back to the highway.
With that Rick, Daryl and Logan continued to follow the trail leading them deeper into the woods when the three of them dropped into a crouch. Daryl whiteled motioning to Rick and Logan as they saw a walker so Logan looked at Rick who nodded. So Logan snuck up behind it while Rick got in front of it and whistled, getting its attention allowing Logan to kill the walker.
After the body collapsed Rick and Daryl walked over with Rick checking underneath the walker's fingernails. "What the hell are you doing?"
Rickl finished what he was doing. "I'm looking for skin underneath its fingernails." He looked in its mouth. "It fed recently. Got skin stuck in its teeth."
Logan backed up. "You guys go ahead with your little science experiment. I'll keep watch."
Daryl took over as he cut the walker's stomach open to see if it had gotten to Sophia and when he did Logan actually wanted to throw up when he watched them rip into its stomach. They did find it must've eaten an animal and not Sophia so that's the good news. Unfortunately it was getting dark so the three of them decided to head back to the highway.
When they did, Carol looked distressed and who could blame her, this was her daughter they were searching for, Logan didn't blame Rick because he did what he could to save her from the walker's that chased after her. Rick tried to keep her calm, explaining that the group will search at first light because going in the woods in the dark was far too dangerous. Carol did blame Rick for what happened because he left Sophia alone in the woods and now she'll be out there in the dark.
Logan watched Rick walk away obviously upset and was probably blaming himself so Logan followed him until he was standing right next to him. "It's not your fault Rick."
"It is. She's out there by herself. I should've stayed with her. Maybe she wouldn't be lost."
Logan shook his head. "You did what you could at the time. If anyone should be blamed it's me. I should've followed after her too but instead I stayed behind like an idiot."
Rick looked over at Logan. "You did what you thought you had too. But we can't change what happened so don't put that on yourself."
Logan turned to Rick. "Rick, I promised her she'd always be safe. I looked that little girl in the eyes and promised to keep her alive. So if she dies, that's on me."
Rick put a hand on Logan's shoulder. "We'll find her. Okay?"
Logan let out a deep breath nodding. "Okay. At first light like you said."
The group took to a car that was empty to get some sleep in so at first light just like Rick said they'd go searching for Sophia. The search party had Rick, Shane, Andrea, Glenn, Logan, Carl, T-Dog, Daryl, Lori, and Carol. They all had gone into the woods in hopes of finding Sophia's trail or some kinda sign of where she could have ended up. They had heard church bells so they thought Sophia had been ringing them in order to alert them that she might be there. Unfortunately it turned out to be an automated alarm of some kind the church used so that meant Sophia wasn't there so it was another dead end.
Logan stood there in the church reaching into his shirt pulling out a necklace that had a cross on it.
"You still believe in that crap?" Daryl walked up to him.
"If God was listening or even here. I'd ask him why the hell this all happened." Logan put it back in his shirt. "It was my dad's. He always said "The Lord works in mysterious ways. Sometimes there are things even he can't control but everything you do means something."" Logan scoffed. "I always thought it was a bunch of bull shit. But..maybe he was right in some way. Maybe this is just some kinda..fucked up joke by the Lord. Maybe this isn't real. I don't know. But what I do know is Sophia is out here. Somewhere."
Daryl placed a hand on his shoulder. "We'll find her."
"I hope so." Logan turned and walked out of the church.
"Shane and I will be going back out there, we gotta be thorough." Rick looked over at Logan. "Are you okay to come with us?"
Logan nodded. "Yeah. We gotta make sure we don't overlook anything."
"Okay then the rest of you, follow the creek back, we won't be too long." Rick and Lori decided that Carl will go with them as long as he stays close to Logan and stays out of trouble. With that the two groups went their separate ways.
Logan, Rick, Carl, and Shane walked deeper into the woods and came across a deer just minding its own business. Shane raised his gun but Rick got him to lower it allowing Carl to approach the animal slowly and for the first time in a long time its like life was normal. Until they heard a gunshot and Carl collapsed to the ground. Rick and Logan ran to his side while Shane looked for the gunman.
Logan looked at Carl holding his hands over the wound. "Carl! Carl, can you hear me!?"
It turns out someone was hunting and when he came down he told the three about a farm where he was held up and told them to find Hershel. Rick tied his belt around Carl's body to stop the bleeding and lifted him up and the four took off running.
"No..not Carl. Not Carl!"
