I have been wanting to write a little Wedges reunion piece for awhile and I finally got to it. This isn't necessarily canon compliant since Hodges is married to another woman in CSI: Vegas. She's fine but I loved him and Wendy so much back in the day.
This has been cross-posted from AO3
It had been a particularly busy day for the Portland crime lab. Wendy had barely had time to eat, but now that her shift was finally over, she was going to remedy that. She walked out of the crime lab building and was heading to the parking lot when she saw him.
"Hodges?"
"Hey," he said casually, as if it hadn't been almost five years since they'd last spoken. Still, Wendy could sense a small bit of hesitation in his voice.
A million questions were running through her head, but Wendy only managed to voice one of them.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to talk," he replied.
Her first instinct was to tell him that he missed his chance to talk and to drive away, but something kept her rooted to the spot.
"Talk then," she said, trying to sound impassive, but wavering in that regard.
He took a deep breath, and Wendy wondered if he'd practiced what he was going to say in a mirror, over and over again. Honestly, knowing David Hodges, it wouldn't surprise her if he had.
"I know we haven't talked in a long time," Hodges began.
Wendy scoffed.
"You could say that again," she muttered.
"And I know I could have reached out at any point," he continued, "But I was hurt and then there was the whole thing with Elisabetta -"
Wendy winced. The last thing she wanted to hear about from Hodges was some other woman.
"Okay, I think we're done here," she said loudly, cutting him off. She started walking past him and towards her car.
"Wait," Hodges shouted, "Please, just hear me out."
Wendy turned back towards him.
"You have five minutes before I get into my car and drive home, so get to it."
Hodges gulped, and continued.
"Grissom came back for a case."
Wendy raised her eyebrows. She had not expected their former lab supervisor to be a part of this conversation. Still, that was way less offensive than this mysterious Elisabetta.
"He and Sara had split," he explained, "I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I, well, everyone in the lab, had witnessed their whole thing. They seemed so perfect for each other."
Wendy nodded. She had always secretly been a fan of the romance between Grissom and the dark haired CSI.
"Well, anyway, when he came back, you could see that they still loved each other," Hodges continued, "And he made it clear to Sara that he did, so in the end, they ended up literally sailing off into the sunset."
Wendy smiled, happy for her former coworkers. But she was still confused.
"That's wonderful Hodges, but that doesn't explain why you're here."
Hodges stepped forward. She wasn't sure if it was that or the look in his eyes that did it, but Wendy felt her heart skip a beat.
"After all these years, I can't stop thinking about you," he said, "I saw what happened with Grissom and Sara and it gave me the courage to at least try and see if you still feel the same as you did when you left. I get it if you don't but-"
Wendy cut him off by placing her lips firmly onto his. He reached up and cupped her cheeks, returning the kiss.
"I never stopped thinking about you either, David," she said as they pulled apart.
He gave her a smile. Wendy slipped her hand into his.
"I gotta know though," Wendy asked as she pulled him towards her car, "Who's Elisabetta?"
