Prompt: The hero visits their family. As a Pokémon.
"So... I don't want to sound like a broken record, but you are absolutely SURE there won't be any complications?" Joshua knew better than to just believe Hydreigon. While helpful, he had a tendency to... forget a detail or two.
"It should be fine. The portal manifested uses the same energies that Axelia emits when she travels between worlds. What's the worst that could happen?" The dragon gave off his signature goofy grin.
"I am with Josh on this one." the Haxorus piped up as they looked at the swirling purple portal. "It just looks... eerie? Ominous? Yeah, that's it. Ominous."
"I guarantee you that it is fine." Hydreigon said, still smiling.
"Then how about you try it then?" Axelia asked him.
"I am the voice of this world. I cannot exist outside of it. Literally." he replied.
"And yet you can kidnap dozens of people from other worlds." she mumbled as she reached her hand out to her Dewott partner. "Let's go together for safety's sake."
Joshua nodded and grabbed her hand. They took one look at one another and stepped through the portal.
Joshua could feel the sunlight once again, and grass under his feet. He could hear all kinds of sounds he hadn't heard before. He opened his eyes. In front of him was a larger building with glass windows covering the walls. He glanced to the side to see his partner, still as gray and scary as she normally was. "Uhm... I think something went wrong, Emma."
Emma let go of Joshua's grip and looked at her hands. "DAMMIT, HYDREIGON!"
Emma knocked on the door, hoping that the nosy neighbours weren't taking a peek into the backyard as she has repeatedly caught them doing. She heard some barking as the family dog entered the living room, saw Emma, then quickly turned around whining in fear as it disappeared again.
"What was that?" asked Joshua.
"That is a dog." she replied.
"Oh." Joshua looked back into the garden and saw some flying types sitting on the wooden fence. Looked like some variant of Pidoves. "And you said there weren't any real pokemon in your world." he said, while pointing at the birds.
"Those are pigeons, ain't anything special about those." Emma sighed, as she knocked on the door once more. This time her little sister appeared and took a page out of the dog's book and screamed as she ran away. "This better not be a thing..." she said as she placed her hand on her forehead. Next up appeared her brother, looking pissed. Probably because of the scared dog and sister. He saw the Haxorus, a fearful expression formed on his face before calming down a bit, studying the pokemon in front of him, smiled and went to open the door.
"That IS you, Emma, right?" he asked as he slid the door to the side.
"Yup, this is me." She said with a smile, before realizing something. "Wait, you understand me?
"Still speaking the language clearly." her brother said. Then the little blue thing said some gibberish, and Emma replied with similar gibberish. "What were you saying?" he asked in confusion.
"He asked who you were. Didn't you hear my reply?"
"All I heard was something along the line of 'dewott de dewott' from him and 'hax haxorus' from you."
"Oh boy!" Emma was getting tired of how many times she had sighed in the past hour, but couldn't do anything but let another one out. "Magic universal translator it was then..." Both Joshua and Caleb, her brother, looked at her confused. "It's a theory I've been pondering about. So, can you let us in before the neighbours see us and call whomever you call in these situations, which I am 99% sure they have on speed dial?"
"Oh right." Caleb said as he stepped aside to let his sister and her blue little friend enter. "I take that this is Joshua?"
"Dewo!" came from the otter.
"Nice to finally meet you. My name is Caleb, I am Emma's younger brother." he said as he stretched out his hand, which the pokemon grabbed and they shook hands.
"Speaking of younger, where did Mimi go?" asked the Haxorus as peeked around the corner into the house entrance hallway.
"Probably hiding under her bed with the dog after she saw you. I'll get her for you." Caleb said as he went for his sister.
"Your brother seems nice." came from Joshua. Emma just nodded in response.
"By the way!" yelled Caleb from the upstairs. "Is it a coincidence that you look like that, or did it choose you by skin color?"
"Probably a coincidence. If the magic was racist, it wouldn't have given me a first form that pale!" she yelled back.
AN: Hydreigon has good intentions, but is bad at execution. Like... really bad. Also, he never thinks of potential consequences until it's too late.
More on that last one later.
