Chapter 1

**In which Dean Winchester Agrees**

Dean sang along to carry on my wayword son that was blazing from the speakers of his baby at full volume. It was the middle of the night and he was driving for more than ten hours without any break but there wasn't anything unusual in it. He had just managed to wipe off an entire nest of vampires single handedly but again nothing unusual in it. He wasn't called Hunter Extraornaire for no reason. And now he was off to Florida to hunt a werewolf and he was pretty sure it was a werewolf unless the serial killers nowadays , like to kill people for the sole purpose of stealing their hearts and also loves to leave clawmarks all over their victims bodies.

He was just checking in a motel when his phone buzzed. He didn't even have to look at it to figure out who it was or who had the nerve of calling him at goddamn six in the fucking morning. Only one person on god's green earth has the balls to do it and it was Robert Singer or as Dean calls him Bobby. He has been ignoring the man's calls since yesterday and as much as he hates to admit it Bobby will track him down and have his hide if he keeps it up any longer.

"Hey Bobby. How you doin' ?" Dean greeted the man or more like his adopted father with forced cheerfulness eager to just get it over with. It's not like he doesn't like talking to Bobby. The man practically raised him and made him the best hunter that he is today but this time it was the subject of the conversation that was annoying the hell out of him.

"I am cursing the day you were born. How 'bout that ?. Did the vampires you killed took your phone 'way with them ?. I don't care if you think you are the best hunter but after every hunt you are supposed to check in with me so that I goddamn know you're alive." Bobby paused for a moment but Dean knew he wasn't done so he kept quiet because if he would so soon he wouldn't be Bobby and also interrupting the man when he was in a bad mood was always like playing with hellfire , he knew that by experience. And Dean really wanted to get this over with so that he could goddamn sleep.

"Next time , you try to pull this stunt with me I am gonna track you down and I won't come alone. I will bring Ellen with me." Bobby growled down the line.

"No , don't you dare." Ellen Harvelle was Bobby's girlfriend though both of them deny it vehemently. But Dean knew better. She is like a mother to him. But damn , that woman is scary. Dean Winchester is stronger and braver than the best of them but he is no match against a pissed off Ellen or even worst , Ellen in angry mother bear mode.

"You know me better than that." Bobby says and Dean can hear the smirk in his voice. After a moment's pause he begins , "You hurt ?". It is asked gruffly but not without an undertone of worry in it.

"Nah , you know me. I don't get hurt easily and certainly not from killing some blood sucking douchebags." Dean settled down on the bed and rested his head against the headboard. He was a little tired and he definitely wanted to sleep for like atleast four hours before he has to go meet up with the sheriff to get the information about the victims.

"Good to know." A pause and Dean knows what was coming and he also knows he is going to hate it. It has been the same since the last five years. He almost had his thumb pressed on the red dial to end the call but he isn't in the mood to put his life in danger by hanging up on Bobby.

"You know *Eligo enim venator diem* is coming." Bobby said with all nonchalance he could muster and Dean rolled his eyes.

"Why can't they just call it *Pick a hunter day* like normal people ?.Its like a damn tongue twister."

"It sounds better in Latin but that's besides the point." Bobby said and Dean could hear the exasperation radiating from his tone. It was expected since they have arguments about this every year since the past five years. Dean was pretty damn tired arguing about it himself.

"I already told you No. Oh wait , I have been telling you No for the past five years." Dean bit out , his tone starting angry but ending in sarcasm.

"Don't you take that tone with me , boy." Bobby warned and then sighed long and deep like talking with Dean was taking a toll on him. Maybe it was because it was the one thing that he had never gotten Dean to agree to.

"You are now a senior active hunter of the *American Hunter Association* (AHA) and by the protocols you must pick a kid from the *AHBS* (American Hunter's Boarding School) to train him to be the next best hunter."

"And I don't want it." Dean replied shortly. Really , it was like this every year. Hell , he even remembers what Bobby will say next.

"You became a senior hunter in the Association this year. You were a junior hunter before so I didn't pressure you. But now it is no longer an option. You wanna keep yer title and the perks that comes with it then you're gonna agree otherwise you're out." Bobby said with such finality in his voice that surprised Dean. He was shocked by this turn of events. Normally , Bobby would try to point out his responsibility towards other hunters' kids or any other kids whose parents were killed by supernatural monsters and then proceed to convince him to pick a kid and train him to be the next best hunter so that the fight against evil would never come to an end. And then Dean would refuse and that's that. But the man had never ordered him like this before.

Bobby was the chairman and principal of the *AHA* and *AHBS*. So if he wishes , he can rip him out of the association by just a click. Dean wasn't that loyal to the association but being a hunter no a recognised senior hunter has its perks. They weren't known by locals. Supernatural world was still a big secret from the general public and it always would be. But the benefits provided by the association were good , hell they were even awesome. The hunters that were part of *AHA* didn't have to worry about getting fraud credit cards for one. They were provided those by the association. They wanted immediate medical help , they were provided with best medical personnel at short notice. They wanted some down time to recuperate no worries the association will get you settled in its five star penthouses. They needed ammunition , they were provided with more than enough to kill a small army. They needed to dodge law , association would take care of that too by providing the best damn lawyer or well through settlement by the judge.

See , the common people don't know that *AHA* exists but the governor , the special intelligence team and the American president knows. And the *AHA* secret has been guarded for years.

So that's why hunters who choose to get the association badge need not to worry about law or money or anything like that. They have the association backing them up. And well the others who are too stubborn to not join *AHA* suffers from the lack of support.

The junior active hunters have the same benefits but they have to goddamn provide the *AHA* with bills and proofs of everything. They have to go through microscopic investigation before a bill of even a simple meal is cleared for them. But senior hunters don't have to worry. And Dean had been waiting to get promoted to a senior hunter since a long time. And he is an active senior hunter which means he is out on the field unlike other senior hunters who just sit on their leather asses all day. So he gets more recognition and more respect. And ofcourse leading an army of the hunters single handedly at a young age to kill the yellow eyed demon bastard that has been a pain in the ass for more than a decade has earned him some serious brownie points and a celebrity status in the eyes of every hunter.

"You know me and the association works well because the association don't give me orders and nor does it interfere with my work. And it sure as hell don't threatens me." Dean spat out angrily down the line. No one threatens Dean Winchester not even *AHA*.

"I am not threatening you , Dean. I am-" Dean cut off Bobby mid sentence , "Really ? Because it seemed to me that you just did. And you know how well I work this threats. I can't even remember the last person to threaten me and you know why is that ?. Because there hasn't been anyone."

"Would'ya let me speak ?.Idgit. I didn't mean that. Dean , you know without me telling ya that the number of monsters are increasing day by day which cannot be said for the hunters. People like you are the only chance the humanity has. The kids at *AHBS* want to continue fighting the evil but they can't do it if they don't know how. They are willing to learn but they just need a chance. We teach them about every monster there is but in theory. They are practically as useful on a field as a toddler in college." Bobby waited Dean to say something which he stubbornly didn't and eventually took a deep breath before continuing.

"I know I don't say it much and I do that to avoid feeding your already inflated ego but you're the best damn hunter this association has. That's why you are the youngest senior hunter , respected and admired by everyone. And we need more like you. Someone to fill in your shoes when the time comes. And I know it isn't gonna happen until next fifty or sixty years because I will pull you out of hell myself and then kick your ass if you die before me. But you get the point." Bobby finished and waited for Dean's answer and Dean could just picture the man rubbing a hand through his already thinning hair and bouncing his knees impatiently because Bobby was never one with much patience.

"You know I don't wanna end up with a dumb good for nothing kid or the one who is too smart for his own good." Dean said at last , his tone almost resigned. He didn't know why he wasn't putting more of a fight or why he was agreeing to this. Maybe it was due to lack of sleep or lack of caffeine no it was definitely a mixture of both that his brain cells fired and he was agreeing to practically adopt a eighteen year old kid to train him to be a hunter.

"You agreed ?" Bobby almost seemed shock by that. Making Dean Winchester change his mind that easily wasn't an easy feat. Though Bobby quickly recovered but Dean could still hear the relief , giddiness (wasn't that new for Bobby ?) and a vague shock when he said , " I don't normally do it. The association decides which kid goes to which hunter. But I am giving you an option to pick out a kid yourself. Consider it an early Christmas present. The Eligo enim venator diem is on 28th but I will arrange an interview for you to meet the kids on 27th. You then decide which kid to be your protégé."

"Is there still any chance for me to backout ?" Dean asked desperately , sort of knowing that Bobby won't but hoping anyway that he may give him an out.

"Nope. I will send you the details and don't you dare ignore my calls." Bobby sounded way more cheerful than Dean would have liked. And before he could bitch the man about it , he hung up. Dean stared at his phone a long moment before slamming it down on the nightstand with more force than necessary. 'Well if he breaks it *AHA* will provide him with a new one. Perks of being a senior hunter and all that.' He thought dryly before falling into a deep slumber.

Sam was reading the 'Guide to Monster -A to Z' which he has borrowed from the *AHBS* library. It wasn't like there was much to do nowadays. They were almost done with their last year at *AHBS* and now they were all just waiting for the famous *Eligo enim venator diem* which will open a new chapter in their lives. Sam was equal parts terrified and excited. It was just 25th and he couldn't wait for 28th any longer. They were going to meet the hunters assigned to each one of them. Who were going to be responsible for training them and making them the next generation of best hunters. Sam has vowed to be the best student out there. He will soak up whatever the hunter who will essentially be his teacher teach him.

"Sam , you think there is anyone who will choose your pathetic ass ? Let me answer that no-one will." Larry , the bully and 's (who was though a teacher but himself a bully) golden boy snarked out. When Sam chose to ignore him , Larry reached out and knocked Sam's book out of his hands.

"It takes courage to be the best hunter out there. A freak like you can never be the one. Hell , you cry in your sleep. You think any hunter would agree to put up with your sorry ass. Man , I know hunters are assigned to us randomly but they still have an option to drop us back. And I guarantee that no hunter in their right mind would want to keep you and train you." The smirk on Larry's face disgusted Sam. The boy always had a problem with him. And Sam for the life of him hadn't figured it out.

Though Sam knew better than to take Larry's words to heart. But he was worried all the same. What if he really didn't get chosen ?. What if he was chosen and sent here back for more training because the other hunter deemed him unfit ?. He couldn't decide which was worse. Like every other *AHBS* student he had been waiting for the *Eligo enim venator diem* for a long time. If any of those happens , he would be crushed. He wasn't bad at school. He has always gotten good grades , hell outstanding grades. All his teachers except who also like Larry for some reason didn't like him which he didn't know why could testify to that. He was good at following orders and respecting those in authority. And he wasn't a cry baby. Sometimes , he just gets nightmares about his parents death. They were killed right in front of him so for him to have nightmares about that horrible night wasn't exactly abnormal.

"Don't worry , Sam. Maybe try next year. You might grow more till then , although not much since it can never fully happen. But its good to have hope , right ?" Larry said in his annoying mocking voice which he always uses with him before walking away.

Sam as usual ignored him and picked up his book which Larry has knocked out on the floor and tried not to think about anything. Whatever's gonna happen , it will happen. He can't change it by overthinking it. He has managed to do just that when the bell rang and a moment later , Ms. Ellen's (Vice Principal of *AHBS*) voice rang loud and clear from the speakers placed just outside their rooms ,

"Attention , please. I repeat attention , please. All the students are required to gather in auditorium hall , immediately. You all should be seated in fifteen minutes. Late comers will not be allowed in the meeting and they will be punished."

Sam closed his book and took off in the direction of the auditorium hall curiously. It wasn't usual for the school to call impromptu meetings or seminars. They are informed a day before about any of that. And it's the end of the year so its not like they are gonna really do a seminar anyways. It must be something important.

Once the auditorium hall was filled with the students and teachers. Mr. Robert Singer , the principal of *AHBS* stepped up on the stage. He got to the podium and began in now completely silent hall ,

"Good afternoon to all of you. I know you all are fidgeting in your seats to know the reason we summoned y'all. But before we get to that , I want to offer my congratulations to everyone of you for making it this far. Some of you can be little pain in butts but you're gonna be missed. So , all the best for the upcoming annual *Eligo enim venator diem*. I hope you won't embarrass us in front of the hunters that will come to take you. Now , the reason for this meeting is , well , how many of you have heard about Dean Winchester ?".

Sam thought that was a stupid question because every student and hunter in *AHBS* and *AHA* knows who Dean Winchester is. He is the one who is responsible for killing the yellow eyed demon who had killed hundreds of people and who was once declared undefeatable by the *AHA* itself. He is the one who is the youngest senior active hunter , the *AHA* has ever had. He was only twenty nine but he has more successful hunts up his sleeves that many older hunters still didn't have. He is certainly very respectful and admired all around *AHBS* and *AHA* and rightfully too. Sam has personally read about him as much as he could get his hands on *AHBS* website which wasn't much since it was said the man likes to keep his privacy. But whatever he had heard or read , made him just that more eager to be just like Dean when he finally become a hunter himself.

When Mr. Robert was greeted with 'Yes' all around the auditorium , he continued. "So everyone has heard about him , huh ?. Good. It means I don't have to explain it. So , Dean has agreed to pick one of you to train as a hunter." There was silence in the auditorium for just a moment before it was filled with excited whispers. Sam was shocked , delighted , excited and terrified all at once. Dean Winchester agrees to train a kid then that kid is set. The man is known to have met angels for godsakes.

"Silence. But there is a change. Normally , the *AHBS* assigns a kid to a hunter. But since Dean has agreed to help us out by training a kid from our school , we are going to bend the rules just a little. *Eligo enim venator diem* is on 28th as y'all are well aware of but Dean will be coming down here on 27th. We will set up an interview for y'all to meet him. And he will decide which one of you to take as his protégé. The interview will be held in my office at 9 in the morning. Y'all are required to meet Ms. Rachel to register your names if you're interested for it and then you will be provided with a schedule for 27th. If you are not interested , you will still have your chance on 28th with other hunters but not with Dean."

Now , Sam was confused. Really , who is the moron to let go of getting a chance to be trained by freaking Dean Winchester himself. But his unvoiced query was answered a moment later.

"I am giving y'all a choice , now , to sit out with Dean if you want to because Dean Winchester is a hard ass. He will train you to be the best , no doubt. But he will make you sweat for it , a lot. He didn't become one of the best just like that. We have taught you all about hunting in theory and now soon you will all get a real taste of it out on the field. It will be hard with every hunter but with Dean it will be the hardest. With him there's no slacking not even a tiniest bit. He have this no nonsense attitude and he can make the toughest man cry. So , I just wanna make sure you as my students know what y'all are getting into. So , if you're not ready for that level of training there are other hunters. Dean and I would really like for y'all to not waste his and yours time by giving the interview only to back out a few days later. That's all I had to say. Y'all are dismissed."

Sam stood up and made his way out of the auditorium towards his dorm with several other students. He has been wanting to meet Dean since he had heard about him the first time when he was about twelve. Ever since the man had been his role model. And to get a chance to be his student was like his dream come true. The man was a hard ass so what. He was one of the best hunter too. Sam didn't expect his life to be all sunshine and roses outside of *AHBS* anyway.

"Dean Winchester is coming , you hear ? The Dean Winchester ?" Larry's minion , Paul, who was even dumber than Larry said , excitement clear in his tone. The boy was practically vibrating , he was just short of dancing down the halls with all the giddiness that was threatening to burst out of him.

"We all know who he will choose , though. Don't we ?" Larry said arrogantly with a smug smile on his face. He was the golden boy of *AHBS* , a perfect teacher's pet and a big time ass kisser if you ask Sam. Some teachers like Ms. Jo Harvelle can see right through it but others like Mr. Litt thrive on all the bullshit. Larry was way over confident for his own good. And he cannot work under pressure. If Dean is as stern as Mr. Singer said then no way in hell Larry can work under the hunter. He was always hungry for praises no not hungry he was always starving for credit. Sam has been a part of the group project with Larry and his minions once and just like he had expected , Larry had taken all the credit even though more than half of the work was done by him.

"You going to Ms. Rachel ?" Harry asked catching up with him just as he was about to take the stairs for his dorm. Harry was Sam's only friend in here. Sometimes , Sam thought the kid was way too innocent for his own good. But he has been always nicer to Sam and helped him more than he can count. He was just as tormented by Larry as Sam was and what was the saying , 'Misery likes company.' Sam had the suspicion that Harry would leave him if the boy has any other option better than him. But it all won't matter now. They are gonna be separated coming 28th or if they hit the jackpot then on 27th , anyway.

"Yeah , I am. What about you ?" Sam asked though he wasn't that particularly interested. His mind was elsewhere. Dean wouldn't choose him. Would he ?. There are way more awesome students for him to choose from. Sam isn't even anywhere close. But what Mr. Singer says , 'Loser isn't the one who loses but he is the one who doesn't even try.' He is hundred percent sure that Dean wouldn't choose him but he knew that he would regret it forever if he didn't even give the interview. And man didn't that just sound like an adult thing to do. Interview. It sounds terrifying and exciting all at the same.

Just think of this AU world where hunting is still a secret but AHA ( American Hunter's Association ) is there to help any hunter joined with it. Like British Men of Letters in the show but AHA is much better since it is headed by Bobby. And you know y'all like that guy.

**It is completely AU. So I hope you will like it. It is my first time writing a story so please be kind. Reviews are really needed to keep me and the story going. And do tell whether I should continue with it or not. Also , I am not a writer. I'm not even a literature student , ya know. It's just I keep imagining this weird AU and what ifs containing Dean and Sam and I have to write it down. English is not my first language either. So be kind. :) .**
