In a parallel universe, Silco moves faster in response to Jayce's offer of Zaun's independence in return for Jinx. Come and see two other ways events might have unfolded.

Jinx was out of bullets, but she let out a giggle as she sidestepped Sevika's sword. There was a moment before she realised the blade had sliced into her face. Blood trickled down her cheek.

If Silco hadn't asked Sevika to capture Jinx alive, the girl would have been dead already. Nicks and cuts covered her skin where the blade had glanced off of her, but Jinx was still putting up a fight.

"You think I'm gonna let you get away with that one, huh?" Jinx taunted.

The last time Silco had seen Jinx, he had carried her unconscious to Singed's lab, kissing her on the forehead before surgery. Before Singed had drugged him. The agony at the thought of losing her bled into the agony of regaining consciousness to see that she had once again run away from him.

Jinx rushed at Sevika, her braids flying behind her.

The time before that, Jinx had called him a liar. And then ran away even after he explained everything to her. He should have held onto her and refused to let go. But no. By then it was too late. Her fate was already sealed.

Sevika caught Jinx with an elbow, knocking her off her feet.

Silco had been offered a deal. He would have sacrificed anything to free Zaun from Piltover's tyranny. The only thing that had given him more than a moment's pause was the fact that they had demanded Jinx. It had taken a little soul searching, but he couldn't deny that this was the only way that made sense.

Jinx hit the ground. Sevika glanced at Silco.

It wasn't a betrayal, Silco told himself. Jinx had repeatedly betrayed him, and he had allowed it to happen because she had aroused some sentimentality in him. But she wasn't his daughter. He had just wanted that to be true. By ignoring her screw ups, he had risked everything he had spent his life working on.

Silco glanced at Jinx. Despite the Shimmer that shone in her eyes, she was a mess. And it pained him to see her that way. He had to fight himself not to call Sevika off. Perhaps it had been a mistake to come along and watch. He gave a subtle signal to Sevika, who dropped her sword to the ground. "Right, let's make this a bit more fair," she said to Jinx.

They grappled unarmed. Jinx had a chance against Sevika with her traps prepared, but not like this. Jinx was already on the ground with her face in the dirt, with Sevika's knee holding her down.

Jinx struggled ineffectively against Sevika's body weight.

How dare you make me feel this way, Silco thought. How dare you make me feel guilty, after all you have done.

"I'll make you pay for this. Both of you!" Jinx said as Sevika tied her hands behind her back.

"I didn't want it to be this way," Silco said, stepping towards them.

Jinx turned her head to look at him, a look of fury on her face. She met his eyes, and her expression softened slightly. She was no longer the relentless warrior she was a moment before, it was like looking into the eyes of the little girl he had watched grow up. "Then don't do this. Let me go. Tell them I escaped."

"I can't. They won't believe me. Things will be better when-"

"Not for me!" Jinx cried, struggling to sit up as Sevika let go of her arms. "How can you do this to me, after everything you promised?"

Silco avoided her eyes. "For goodness' sake, child. They are going to put you on trial, not kill you."

Jinx laughed. "So, they say jump, you say how high?" she said, trying to kick Sevika as she tied her ankles together. "Is that how it's gonna be, Silco? You gonna be their little pet pooch, huh?"

"Of course not! Their demands were reasonable. I asked for everything in return. Everything we have always deserved!"

"Nice to know I never featured in your plans. So, you just gonna pin the blame on me and walk away? You gonna go and sit in your high castle with the Council and eat gold and gemstones?"

"That was never what I wanted. You know that!"

Jinx scoffed. "You know, I don't think I really ever knew you at all. You had me fooled real good! Oh yeah, making me think you were an actual human being."

"Jinx," Silco said.

"You're not allowed to call me that anymore!" she screamed, tears filling her eyes. "In fact, don't you say anything to me ever again!"

"Jinx, listen to me. They'll put you in Stillwater. I'll find a way to get you out. Just give me some time, okay?"

Jinx shook her head, tears flying from her face. "You're lying! Just like you always lie to me!"

Silco hung his head, defeated. He gestured to Sevika, who dragged Jinx to her feet. He had known this would be difficult, but somehow it was even worse than he had imagined.

The next chapters will concern the choice Silco makes next, and will deal with the consequences of each. Feel free to read one or both, depending on your preference.
