There was no sun in the sky today. Clouds could be seen spread far and wide, with a dark grey tint to them. Rose Quartz, the leader of the infamous gem rebellion, watched with awe as big raindrops started to fall from the dark and menacing clouds.
Something about the rain made rose fasinated. Maybe it was because Homeworld didn't have their own weather system, or maybe it was just because rain was cooling after a hot day. Either way, Rose loved it. Sitting next to the gem was a human named Greg, the most precious human Rose has ever met. Together, they were watching the rainfall.
Greg shifted in his place as they sat, watching. Rose looked over, curious. Something had been bugging her all day, and she was finally hoping to get it out to somebody who would understand.
"Hey, Greg. Have you ever... abandoned someone?" This question came of of nowhere for Greg. He pondered it for a second, thinking of how to reply. He'd never abandoned anyone. Sure, he had a friend when he was a young kid that was very clingy. On multiple occasions, Greg had had a problem with this. But, he never considered just outright abandoning them. "No... I don't think I have." He quietly replied. "Oh..." sighed Rose. Her thoughts started to spin about Spinel and how they used to be best friends. For all she knew, Spinel could still be waiting in that same spot in the garden for her. Turning her attention back to the clouds, Rose tried to forget about those memories.
"Why do you ask?" Greg said after a few moments of silence. "I-it's nothing, really." Greg continued to watch Rose. After another second, he sighed and said, "It's in the past, Rose! It doesn't matter anymore."
"You-you're right." stuttered Rose. It was in the past. But why does she still feel guilty for it now...?
"Listen, I wasn't telling the whole truth." Greg admitted with a sigh. "I've thought about abandoning somebody before. When I was a kid, about 10 years older than Sour Cream, I had a really clingy friend. Don't get me wrong, they were great, but it caused some... problems, in between us. So, instead of abandoning him and ruining our friendship, I thought I might just... work something out with him. I confronted him on his behavior, and he promised to not be as clingy. Then... he wasn't. He just.. changed. Like that. I guess he needed somebody to slap him back into reality of what he was doing." Greg finished.
Rose let out an inaudible sigh. So why couldn't she do that with Spinel? Whether or not she changed, it still would have been good to confront her on her "behavior" like Greg did with his friend. Maybe then... maybe then, Rose could have brought her to her new colony and together they could have started a new friendship. Rose huffed and let a little smile appear on her face. Oh, how great that would have been. "Th-thank you, Greg, for telling me."
"Heh, no problem, Rose! I hope that helps you." He said, smiling. "Listen, it's starting to really pour, I better head inside now. It was fun talking to you, Rose!" Greg yelled as he started for his van. "Thank you, Greg." Rose thought as she turned and headed for the temple's entrance.
On her way, she thought about what life would be like with Spinel joining them on their adventures, laughing with them, talking with them. It would have been wonderful. Sighing for a final time, Rose looked to the sky. It was really raining now, and she wondered, just for a second, if there was a way to go back in time. It was too late to go for Spinel now, Homeworld would surely catch her. but maybe... just maybe... if she were to be given a second chance, she could do things right.
