Chapter 1

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon. The sky was a beautiful blue with fluffy clouds floating high. A young teen was peacefully resting against a tree trunk in the overgrown garden of the Granger family dojo. A gentle breeze lightly teased his bangs against his forehead. He almost sighed at the peacefulness of it all. At the back of his mind he wondered what the other inmates of the dojo were doing. 'Could they have gone out maybe? Why is it so quiet? Oh well. All the more rest for him. He might be able to squeeze in an hour's nap today after all'. The thought barely left his mind before an ungodly shriek sent birds flying off the trees and brought his musings to a crashing stop. Kai straightened up and turned his attention towards the dojo, intending to direct his best glare and a few choice words to the offender for ruining his much cherished nap time.

"What did you say Tyson! I dare you to say it again one more time!" That was undoubtedly Hilary, berating Granger. Again. She was standing nose to nose with Tyson glaring daggers at him. "All I said was the truth. I just don't understand how you can really help the team by being a coach who has never participated in a beybattle before. Heck! You don't even know how to spin a beyblade", Tyson responded, refusing to back down from Hilary's glare.

Great!' Thought Kai. 'Another pointless argument that would surely dampen the mood for the rest of the evening.'

"Now look here Tyson, I have trained just as hard as you guys. I know my way around all the parts of a beyblade and I even help Kenny with minor repairs. Not to mention, I was the team coach when we won two years ago. I think I am way qualified to handle this team thank you", Hilary spat back. "There is a difference between all the theory and the real, hard core practicals Hilary", Tyson shot back. "All the other teams have coaches who also beyblade and I feel that's an essential skill for the job. Guys! I'm sure you all agree with me on this one right?" Tyson looked around at Ray, Max and Kenny for support. "Ty, does it really matter if she blades or not? Her training schedules have been pretty great and her tips have always helped me", Max said quietly. "Yea I agree with Max", Ray spoke up. Tyson rounded on Ray. "What I'm trying to say here is that she can never understand how hard it is to master a new move! It won't always go as per her schedule or her notes! I'd sure like to see her launch a beyblade since she evidently knows all the theories", guffawed Tyson unkindly.

A furious Hilary who had been seething quietly all this time marched upto Tyson. "You know what Tyson, Fine! I will launch a beyblade into this training dish if that will shut you up. If I fail to do so then I shall quit being the team coach and never give my opinions about your beyblading again". Tyson looked like the cat that got the cream. "You're on Hilary! And to prove your worth you have to not only launch a blade into this dish, but you have to keep it spinning for a minimum of three whole minutes. And if you succeed, which I highly doubt you will, then I shall eat my hat!", he said in sudden inspiration.

Kai had heard enough. He got up dusting his back, intending to leave quietly before anyone roped him into the stupid arguement. That's when he heard Ray following Hilary to the edge of the garden. "What were you thinking Hils. There is no way you can learn how to beyblade from a bunch of books". Hilary was worriedly chewing on her bottom lip. "I don't know why I said that Ray. I just wanted to prove him wrong. Atleast I have two days time".

And what if you can't do it", Ray pressed on. Are you going to just quit the team? Tyson won't ever let you live this down you know. Hilary huffed, "I don't know yet but I am surely not going to go down without trying". Kai smirked. The girl did have a bit of spunk in her and was a refreshing addition to the team. Too bad it was a short run. Or maybe not. Maybe there was something that he could do to help put Tyson in his place. Kai walked out the dojo gate, his mind formulating a plan.
