The sun began to set. Turning the Kansas sky into a warm and nice orange. A lot happened in the past few days… and it had a lasting impact on all of them.

Clark holds his son tightly. Listening to his heartbeat that was so fast during his outburst but now became calm, slow, and careful with every step they got closer back to the farm.

Clark felt bad. For letting his son feel left out. For not mentioning his struggles. For not realizing that Jon needed him, too. He was so focused on Jordan since their move here, that he was simply not realizing it. Until he invaded Jon's privacy and read his notes, the boy hid under his bed and were not definite for his or for anyone else's eyes.

Jon was suffering terribly from his X-Kryptonite consume. Not healthily but emotionally. More than anyone else and more than Clark could imagine or even realized.

Lois left the house when she saw Clark and Jon approaching the house. When she came home a few minutes ago, she was furious that Jon was not at home. Then she found some pages of his notes on the floor of his room and now she was just baffed, when she saw Clark carrying their son like a baby back into the house.

Clark made his 'don't-make-a-scene-now' face! The harsh one! The harsh one she wasn't used that he gave it to her. That and the notes she read, just confirmed that something terrible happened while she was not at home and the terrible bruise on Jon's arm and his torn clothes only seem to confirm it.

And so, Lois watched silently, how Clark carried Jon upstairs to place him in his bed. Like he used to do it regularly when he was little. Jon was so exhausted that he seemed to sleep. Clark placed Jon on his bed, then opened the curtains to let the last remaining sun beams of today shine on him. Powers or not, and no matter that Jon sees himself as human, he was still the child of a Kryptonian. Maybe the sunlight helps his injured arm? Clark hoped so at least now.

Clark was still horrified about what he did. He could had torn his son's arm off, when he grabbed it, far too strong. Clark checked the arm once again. His bone was okay. But the bruise will be very painful for the next time. A tear ran down Clark's face.

He gave his sleeping son a careful kiss on his forehead before he stood up and went to the door. Lois was watching everything from the corridor and was just confused. Clark took the pages from the journal from her, put them into the remnants of the exercise book with the other notes and pushed everything carefully under his son's pillow before he left the room again and closed the door behind him as careful as possible.

Once the door was closed, Clark allowed himself to sob. This was the moment Lois couldn't wait anymore…

"What happened?" she asked. Keeping her voice low. She felt that something terrible happened and she feared the truth. Which was very uncommon for her? But it was her son, who looked like someone tried to break his arm.

Clark went a step away from the door before he quietly confessed what he just did…

"I… I was looking for the playbook when I found that exercise book under Jon's bed. I read it… It… it was a diary!" Clark confessed. Lois expression changed rapidly from worried to furious but before she could explode Clark hold her mouth and continued. "I know it was not right. And he caught me! We had a fight and… Oh, my gosh Lois… I hurt him! That bruise is my fault. I scared the hell out of him! Lois… I made everything wrong! Ever since we moved… We're losing him and I didn't mention… It's… it's…"

"Clark!" Lois interfered. "Clark, Clark, Clark… Listen to me! Calm down! Let's talk about it!"

Together they went downstairs. Normally at this daytime (if they were home), they would settle down on the porch, with a glass of wine, watching the sunset together. But now they went to the living room, to sit down on the couch. Lois never saw Clark trembling that much. But she could imagine that he was shocked.

Lois knew, if her dad would had read her hidden diary, she would have freaked out terribly. And now she read the two pages, she found and realized that she wasn't any better. Clark was pale. A lot of thoughts shooting threw his head. Thinking about everything what happened since he told the boys who he is…

Clark thought about what he said to Jonathan that evening. And compared it with what he read in his notes. He was mad that evening. Not even an hour before, he witnessed an X-K fueled Anderson kill that counterpart of him. Seeing how it changed Anderson for bad and hearing that his own son, he always considered being the easy and good one, taking it made him so afraid that he lashed out on him. And Jon didn't even think about the possibility that it could be dangerous to him. He saw himself as the human one… but it was still Kryptonite…

There were a lot of questions…

Lois came back into the living-room with two cups of coffee. It was a lot to talk about.

"I had never seen so much fear in his face. Gosh, Lois… I could had hurt him seriously."

"Clark, it was an accident!" Lois said.

"You weren't there. I was exaggerating. First, I invade his privacy and then I hurt him. And he was not that bad, so it does not justify what I did!"

"What exactly happened?"

Clark told her everything from the beginning. But now more detailed…

How he found the 'diary', read it, Jonathan coming in, his outburst, how he accidentally hurt him, the fear and the rejection Jonathan felt in that moment, how he ran away and about his outburst over in the forest. How he humiliated Jonathan and how Jonathan feels about being just 'the other child'…

Lois listened to Clark with big eyes. Getting afraid after every new detail. Clark told her how Jonathan feels since the reveal. How it secretly bothered him more than they thought. About everything he gave up, he lost and was never able to regain. Because it starts to feel everything, he tries is useless in a family full of extraordinary people and multiple teammates who cheat. That he felt terrible to even try to but not even thought about that the X-K could hurt him because he sees himself as 100% human, who sees no connection to Krypton or danger in Kryptonite.

But worst of all… was Jonathan's accusing of them loving Jordan more because he is more Kryptonian… and those notes were not just a few days old… he wrote that months ago…

When Lois heard this, she almost screamed. A woman like Lois Lane was hard to crack, but hearing this let her heart drop.

"Oh my god…Clark, please tell me you told him that it is not true!" Lois wailed.

"Of course! I… Oh, my gosh… Did it happen, Lois?" Clark asked.

"You mean… 'it'?"

"Yes! IT!"

They used to talk a lot about it in the past. Mostly before the kids were born and before Jor-El in the fortress told them that the probability of eighter of them having powers is 'very unlikely'. About their fear that 'it' could happen: That only one of them gets powers, while the other one gets jealous. Maybe not jealous (Jonathan would never confess that he is jealous), but still different. When they got told in the fortress that the boys won't develop powers and always blend in perfectly as humans, they stopped thinking.

But then came Jonathan's athletic talent and Jordan's anxiety… They were so focused on Jordan's wellbeing that they only thought about him. That when 'it' happens, Jordan's state could become worse. But everything went differently as they expected. But they still focused on Jordan. Jon was always stepping in for Jordan, acting as some kind of mediator when it got loud, or kept them together… after everything what happened over the past year and a half, it would be no surprise if he was burnt out… that he reached his limit and was broken…

The light in the living room became darker before it suddenly turned from the nice orange that was outside, into a bright orange that felt like it was right in the room…

"It feels like they switched both totally. Did it really happen?" Clark asked again.

"Yes, it did!" Clark's voice said suddenly from somewhere else.

Lois and Clark turned around and were shocked…

There stood another Clark… well another Superman, but with glasses, in the opening to the corridor. The typical blue suit, with the red boots, but different ones. And a black cape, that was shorter than it should be to look good. The famous House of El crest on the chest was not visible. A different styled red 'S-suggestion' was in a different shaped crest on black ground.

Lois and Clarks first thought was… Another Bizzaro! But Clark felt no headache and no other negative effects like he did when Bizzaro appeared. Clark wanted to jump up and get the intruder out of the house, but he suddenly had to realize that he was not able to move. As well as Lois…

"It happened!" the foreign Clark said. "It happened, just like it happened with our Jonathan! And you don't even realize it!"

He went a step closer into the living-room. Keeping some distance between him and the shocked couple on the couch. Clark wanted to say something but his whole body felt like paralyzed. He was only able to breath and to blink. And Lois, too…

"I am not here to make a scene! Or to scold on you, two!" the intruder said with a sad voice. "Gosh, I am not even allowed to be here because travelling to other Earths is prohibited…"

Other Earths? Was he from another Earth in the multiverse? And if yes, from which one? Old or new multiverse?

"…I've been watching other Earths and other versions of us. I have seen worlds where Jon is well, worlds where he was never born, worlds in which he is your successor, looking for a world to find answers what I did wrong… and I found it… I didn't have to look into another world to see what I did wrong but I can't just watch happening it again…"

Clark was able to lift his arm. But it was so heavy that he dropped it immediately.

"I want to tell you a story! A sad story… no happy end, a lot of pain and a lot of sorrow." The foreign Clark said. "Normally I should slap you two… for not realizing that your family is slowly tearing apart. But that wouldn't be right! I made the same mistake, and it would never help me with my pain and my sorrow I feel since we lost him…"

The foreign Clark, who was obviously from another Earth and a mentally broken person, revealed Jonathan's notes, he took from the boys' room and showed them to Lois and Clark.

"My Jonathan wrote such notes, too. I had to read them when it was already too late and so I realized to late what was really going on with him… But I better start from the beginning… Our worlds are pretty similar, but also entirely different…"

And so 'the other Clark' start to tell his point of view…

"We were a normal family… Father, mother, two sons… well with the difference that I am Superman next to being Clark Kent. We didn't tell the boys, too… then… and this is the mayor difference between our worlds…" the other Clark's voice starts to tremble. "…aww… No… I don't endure it! I can't… I am not even allowed to be here! But let me tell you one thing: You're losing him! And the fact that you don't even mention it makes me sick!"

Lois and Clark looked on him with big eyes. Still not able to move or to respond. And still scared how this guy was able to paralyze them both. Especially Clark. They mentioned that this other Clark was not here to hurt them. He only wanted to tell them a story. A story that obviously broke him. A story that was so long, he wouldn't be able to tell it anyway in the short amount of time, he is here…

"The short version: It was all too much for him to endure. We only focused on his brother! He lost everything he once had! The whole world laughing about him that he is the powerless son of Superman! The other Kryptonians seeing in him a shame for our race…"

"What…" Clark was able to yell. It was the only word he was able to yell out.

Does this Clark come from an Earth where everyone knows their secret? What a horrible thought? And he didn't want to imagine how the boys in that world must feel. Tears shot into the other Clark's face…

"I… I pushed him away… I didn't even give him a chance to explain why he took the X-K! I knew where he got it and I was not happy about it. I was not happy that he brought shame over us… I was just too stupid to not realize that all he wanted was that I love him, too. And knowing that he believed that I didn't care for him hurts. I just hurts!"

Clark knew it: All Jonathan wanted was to feel loved, too. And Jonathan didn't enjoy what he did. He regrated it deeply. Jon never felt so ashamed like he did now. And Clark just humiliated him much more, today…

Desperately Clark tried to say something. But he was still not able to talk…

"Eighter me, nor my wife, nor our Jordan mentioned what was going on, right in front of our eyes… how his state became worse with every day… Or how we destroyed all the bonds we had with him one by one more and more…" the other Clark said, fighting against his tears. "…Five years!... Five years ago… my son Jonathan left the house… With nothing but the pajamas he was wearing. He left at that icy cold and foggy morning… and was gone! Just… vanished! Poof and gone…"

Clark tried to imagine it: Jonathan in pajamas leaving the house and vanishing without a trace and that for five years?

"I wasn't home… Lois slept and Jordan, too. And he was never seen again. Nobody has ever seen him again. For five years… I don't know if he is dead! I don't know if he is alive! Is he safe? Is he in trouble? Is he sick? Is he healthy? I don't know it… And you won't know it, too soon, if you don't listen to your Jonathan better!"

Clark listened to him closely, but he also mentioned that Jonathan was listening to them, too…

The other Clark turned around to see Jonathan standing on the stairs, his face as white as chalk and extremely shocked about what he saw and heard…

He woke up while his parents were still in the corridor. He heard his father regretting what happened. But he felt too tired and too exhausted to stand up. Until he realized that something was wrong. The moment the lights changed, he somehow managed to lift out of the bed, ignoring the terrible pain in his arm, and walked slowly downstairs to listen to 'his father's' voice telling them about how he successfully scared off his Jonathan.

Jonathan sat in the corner of the stairway and watched them full of fear. The foreign Clark turned around and more tears shoot into his eyes. It was so surreal. Everything felt like a weird dream that was so weird that it was too unbearable, and Jon prayed to wake up. But it was not a dream… This was real! And the fear inside him grew with every second the foreign 'Clark' watched him.

Full of fear, Jonathan's parents watched the foreign Clark walking closer to their son. Jonathan who was still very upset from his outburst, was so close from wetting himself in. He wanted to run away, but his weak body, he learned to hate since the X-K thing was over, was not willing to obey and just shied away, deeper into the corner. Expecting the worst…

"Aww… my gosh… what did they do to you?" the foreign Clark asked shocked. Checking Jonathan and the bruise on his arm. "I am so sorry… I am so so sorry… I know I am not the one who has to apologize, and you are not the boy I am supposed to apologize to. That boy is long gone..."

A lot of thoughts shoot threw Jonathan's head… he heard almost everything that guy said, and he knew it was terrible. Something he feared to experience with his parents, too. And he was ashamed of that though! After all the humiliation today, he didn't want to endure the apology of that 'otherworldly' Superman, who was so close from a mental breakdown. And Jon, in all his pride that kept him grounded and calm over the past year, didn't want to make a scene. But he knew he won't endure whatever happens next.

"…I understand you! I know it sounds weird. Because I can't imagine how you must feel as human in this family. But you are his son, too… No matter what the others will say… And no matter if you have powers or not. I was never able to figure out if my Jonathan would have developed powers, too. You are a good boy, and if he does not see that he does not deserve you…" the other Clark's voice start to tremble again. "…aww… I am sorry that they humiliated you so much on your big day. I am sorry that I didn't stop them from making jokes about you being the powerless one. I am sorry that I never realized that burden you have to feel. I never understood until it was too late… And your father might not eithger…"

The other Clark was going to have a breakdown. That was obvious. Jonathan was just scared. So scared that his heart start to beat so fast again. He wanted to run away scared and hide. But once again his body failed.

But most scaring… was when the other Clark hugged him. He feared to get crushed. And the other Clark mentioned that fear and it hurt him.

"See what you did to your son?" he asked Clark, who really wanted to jump up and get his son away from his unstable doppelganger. "That boy does not need any more drama. That boy needs a hug!"

Clark really wanted to hug Jonathan now. And now he had to witness this other himself hug the boy, who was as scared as hell.

"You didn't take him to the fortress, too, didn't you? And he is a denier, too, isn't he? Oh, Jonathan… I am sorry… I am so sorry… Lois, tell your husband that you got Kryptonian-twins and not a human and a Kryptonian!"

Lois was suddenly able to move a hand. But just briefly. In fear they had to watch, the foreign Clark giving their scared son a kiss on his forehead before lifting him from the stair and carrying him up the stairs…

"You lost him!" he said reproachful and with more tears in his eyes. Carrying him upstairs slowly and carefully. "You lost him…"

Suddenly everything was pitch-black…

Clark and Lois opened their eyes when they heard Jordan calling for them. They were still in the living-room but it was already dark outside. Their coffee-cups stood still in front of them untouched.

When Jordan left, he was mad on Jon for being mad on him. But he understood it now. And after hearing what he heard today in the diner, he felt much worse. He told it to Sarah, who offered him to go home to tell his parents. And he was surprised to find his parents 'sleeping' on the couch.

Clark and Lois were confused. Suddenly everything felt like it was just a dream… But that was impossible. They were both too upset to fall asleep on the couch together. The coffee in the cups was cold, so some time passed.

"Mom, Dad… I need to tell you something!" Jordan said worried.

"Jordan… where is my doppelganger?" Clark asked instinctively. "Is Jon okay?"

"No! He is not okay! And it's my fault, because I spied him out again and now I feel bad for it… But I heard something in the diner today…"

"Clark, was that guy real?" Lois asked still scared.

"How much time has passed? 30 minutes?" Clark asked.

"HELLO… I am talking to you!" Jordan moaned. "I heard a conversation between Coach Gaines and Principal Balcomb in the diner! They still plan to make Jonathan into the scapegoat of that mess…"

"Oh my god… What happened with this town?" Clark moaned, realizing the rough time Jonathan will have. "This is not the town I used to grow up in!"

Before saying any more, Clark stood up and walked upstairs…

Carefully opening the door to Jonathan's room, he found the boy laying on his bed. He laid on his back, his hands folded together, with closed eyes…

Clark fell on his knees and start to cry. The words of his doppelganger ringing in his ears… knowing that he won't be able to endure this uncertainty. And still asking himself why he had to humiliate his son so terribly today, by reading his notes. Or why he didn't mention that the move to Smallville didn't went as well as hoped for Jon, too.

"I am so sorry, Jonathan!" Clark said.

Clark carefully placed his ear on his son's chest… he didn't hear his heartbeat anymore…
