Previously on Match Point: After months apart, Shizuka re-enters Hachiman's life, after learning of the good that he has done in Japan. She decides that the she is the positive influence he needs, and makes herself a part of the team. Soon after, Shizuka finds out that the next step to taking down Komanda is not as black and white as some of the others, and that they would be robbing a bank. What will happen next? Find out!

Sunday - Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Bank – 10:01

Hiratsuka sits in the driver's seat of a rental car, next to Hikigaya, both wearing sunglasses, staring over at the bank across the street.

Several people walk in and out the building, making it rather busy. It's large glass revolving doors offer a small glimpse inside, with large branding on the outside walls.

"I don't know how I feel about this…" Shizuka says with a pensive expression, watching as a group of people exit the bank.

"It's necessary." Hachiman responds. "We've got to get this information."

"Yeah but… it's so illegal."

"You don't have to come along, you know? This is just recon."

"I do know that, but I want to get my hands dirty. The way Yukino has."

The assassin smirks and shakes his head.

"You make it sound like we're doing something really bad…"

"Robbing banks is really bad."

"Are you coming or not?"

She looks over at him, takes a second, then nods and opens the door on her side. Hikigaya does the same, and they both exit the vehicle. They then head across the street, walking side-by-side.

Eventually, they arrive by the revolving doors, and quickly head through.

The interior of the bank is quite large, with a dark carpeted floor and several rows of tellers all helping customers. A few seats are placed about, giving people the opportunity to sit down.

"So what exactly do we do?" The teacher asks, whispering into Hachiman's ear.

"We need to test response times. The safety deposit box is in a vault, so we need to know how long the vault will take to open as well."

"Yukino gave us fake I.D's right?"

"That's right."

They both reach into their pockets and pull out their cards, then hold them up side-by-side, comparing. The first thing they notice is that the I.D's Yukinoshita has procured both have the same last name.

"Did she make us a couple?!" Hiratsuka reacts with disbelief.

"Uhh… No… I think we're supposed to be brother and sister."

"Oh, right…"

With that, they head towards a teller.

As they arrive at the desk, a lady in a dark blue blouse with a big smile on her face, greets them.

"Hello, how may I help you guys?"

"We have a safety dep-"

Both Hachiman and Shizuka answer at the same time, and abruptly cut off each other's sentences.

"We have a safety deposit box." Hiratsuka says, starting over.

"That's right." Hikigaya interjects. "We'd like to get something from it."

The lady nods, then types something into her computer.

"Do you have your SDP forms?"

They nod, and place some files on the desk.

As the lady takes their fake I.D's, she raises an eyebrow, staring down at the cards. Shizuka notices this, and thinks the lady suspects them, so she pre-emptively says something.

"Uhh… We're brother and sister, him and I."

The lady smiles and nods, not saying anything. There is a brief silence, as they stand there awkwardly.

After a few moments, the teller rises from her chair, looking over at them.

"Do you guys have your key?"

They nod, and are then guided from the main area of the bank, down some stairs, and through a couple of doors. After some minutes of walking, the three of them arrive outside a large bank vault.

The lady taps a code into the vault, then presses her thumb against a scanner. The large metal door begins opening, very slowly. In fact, it takes a full minute for it to be wide enough for a person to fit through.

Hikigaya notices this and makes a mental note about it.

After it's opened, they all walk in. Inside the vault are several walls filled with tiny box sized vaults that people keep their valuable items in. Each one has a specific number on it, along with a keyhole.

Shizuka and Hachiman find their safety deposit box and open it, inside they see a random pearl necklace.

Just a few boxes away from theirs, sits the lieutenant's box. The one they will soon be robbing.

"Shizuka, I have to ask; you understand the reason I've requested you here today?"

In a small room, a seventeen-year-old Shizuka Hiratsuka sits in a chair opposite a school guidance counsellor. The hallways outside the room are bustling, leaving a muted background noise in the air.

"Yeah…" She responds, staring at the old woman sitting across from her, behind a desk. "You wanted to speak about… Uh… My mother…"

"That's correct."

Hiratsuka's hair is shorter, going less than to her shoulders, with some highlights thrown in. Her fingernails are painted a crushed black, with lipstick to match. The rest of her is rather plain though, wearing a regular school uniform.

"Well… I don't really want to speak about that…"

Her responses are quite soft, a contrast to her normal upbeat nature.

"I was told by your father that you've been struggling with the recent death of your mother. Is this true?"

The blunt questioning throws Shizuka off-guard, and she looks away, feeling her heart-rate begin to quicken.

"I… Uh… Umm… I don't know…"

"If you would like to discuss it with me, you're more than welcome to. I am also a professional grief counsellor; the best money could buy for a school."

This is true. The private school Hiratsuka attends has cut no cost on the education department, having only the best of the best.

"I know… But I just don't want to speak about it…"

"Your father tells me that you feel this way about a lot of things and choose to ignore your problems instead of solving them."

The blunt responses continue, leaving the younger of the two feeling like she's in more of an interrogation than a grief session.

"That's kind of… Rude…"

"Rude?"

"Yeah… It seems you don't really want to listen to me, but rather speak yourself…"

Shizuka looks over at the counsellor, giving her an annoyed look. The counsellor scoffs and shakes her head.

"How dare you speak to a superior like that?! Apologize, immediately."

Hiratsuka frowns.

"Sorry…"

Present Day - Wednesday – Chiba Streets – 17:09

"Sorry isn't good enough!" Rorona says anxiously, as he and Hiratsuka walk side-by-side down the street.

"I know…" She responds with a smile. "But Hachiman said it's okay, and that should be good enough."

"Hachiman is insane. This is far too dangerous."

Shizuka rolls her eyes.

"I need to know whether or not helping you guys is the right thing to do. To that end, I need to really put myself out there."

"Yeah, but this is a bit too out there."

"How is this any further than what I did with Hachiman last week? We all have a part to play in this robbery."

The two of them stop walking, as they come upon their destination – a large fire department. The building is wide, with a big inside area where two fire trucks are parked. By the trucks are a couple firemen dressed in blue jumpsuits with white outlines.

"All I'm saying is, you should be safe with Yukino right now. Not with a grunt like myself."

"That's sweet, Rorona." Hiratsuka responds, placing her hand on his shoulder. "But I can handle myself."

A few moments later, one of the firemen nonchalantly strolls out from behind the truck and towards them. The fireman is quite short, with a crewcut and rolled up sleeves.

"You the buyer?" He asks, looking at Rorona.

Rorona crosses his arms, then nods at the man.

"Cool, she with you?"

The man looks over at Shizuka as he asks this.

"Yeah, she is." Rorona answers sternly.

With that, the man guides them into the building.

After a short walk through the garage, they head up a spiral staircase to the third floor. From there, he takes them over to an office. The building's halls are all carpeted, with very rough brick walls.

The three of them proceed to enter the room, where they find two more firemen inside, standing next to a briefcase that's resting on a table.

"Hey." One of them greets, as Rorona and Hiratsuka enter. "You got the money?"

Rorona nods and reaches behind his back, before pulling out a large wad of cash. The man then opens up the lid of the briefcase, revealing what's inside – a fist sized metal disc with a sphere in the middle.

"Not sure why you guys want this magnet, we use it for hoses on our trucks, but the money you're offering is quite substantial, so it's yours."

Rorona actually doesn't know what it will be used for either, but Yukinoshita found the item and seller, and made it clear the robbery could not be pulled off without it.

In the corner of the room, Hiratsuka notices a camera pointing down at them. One of them men catches her staring at it, and preemptively explains.

"Don't worry, the camera's off. We know how bad this would be if we were caught."

"Good…"

Not wasting another moment, Rorona places the money on the table, then shuts the briefcase.

As he leans over to grab it, he notices one of the men with his hand in his pocket. This raises some suspicions, but Rorona simply pulls the case off the table and turns around.

However, as he walks towards the door, he notices a reflection on the glass pane – of one of the men coming up behind him. He quickly swings the briefcase towards the man's head, knocking him back.

"What the hell?" Shizuka yells out, backing up against the wall.

The three firemen, all move up next to each other.

"When your employer told us who'd be collecting the item, we instantly recognized the name; Rorona... As in Rorona Kobayashi. The people on the streets have been speaking about you, how you might be involved with the assassin running amuck around Chiba."

Rorona sighs as he hears this, then clenches his fist, getting ready for a fight.

"We were mulling over whether or not to grab you... Looks like we've made a decision..."

However, before anyone can do anything, Hiratsuka reaches into her handbag and pulls out a small canister. She aims it towards the firemen and begins spraying out the contents. It doesn't even take a second for the pepper spray to take effect, instantly disabling all three men.

One of them falls over against the wall, while the other two drop down clenching their faces. After a few seconds, the vomiting starts.

"Goddamn…" Rorona says, backing away from them.

"Like I said, I can handle myself."

The office window has a clear view of the garage, where several other firemen can be seen hanging out by the trucks.

"They'll be suspicious if we exit the building without these guys." Shizuka explains, looking down at the trucks.

"Yeah, any ideas?"

She smiles, taking out her phone.

"Yes, actually…"

After dialling a number, Hiratsuka brings the device up to her ear.

"Japanese emergency services, how may I help you?"

"Yes, I'd like to report a fire."

"Where are you ma'am?"

"Umm… Near the mall…"

The teacher's words are not confident, as she has to fake a location.

"What mall?"

"Uhh… You know… The one near the glass buildings…"

"Oh yes, of course." The operator responds. "Dispatching a team now."

A few seconds later, a red phone on the wall by the trucks begins ringing, and one of the firemen answers it. After that, he calls out to all the other men letting them know of a fire in progress.

Soon, everyone in the garage clears out, getting into a truck and driving towards the location Hiratsuka gave to the operator.

"Looks like we're clear." She says, ending the call and looking over at Rorona.

4 Years Earlier

"You do know why you're here, is that correct, Hachiman?"

In a four walled room, an eleven-year-old Hikigaya sits in a chair opposite a significantly older man. The man has curly white hair and a beard. On the desk he sits behind are several stacks of papers and pens, along with a mug filled with coffee.

"Yes…"

The response is low in tone, as the younger of the two absent-mindedly looks around the room. His eyes scan the different pictures hung on the walls, some paintings, others drawings; most depicting families. In one corner, several certificates can be seen.

This is the office of a child psychologist.

"Your uncle Ryuzaki has told me that lately you've been dealing with a heavy depression. How do you feel about that notion?"

Hikigaya's eyes glance over at the mug, then to the man in front of him.

"I… I don't know…"

The psychologist nods, then takes a sip of his coffee.

"Depression can be a complicated subject for an eleven-year-old, do you think you understand what it means?"

"I guess…"

Once again, his eyes glance over to the coffee mug.

"Do you feel depressed?"

"It's not something I really think about."

Hachiman's face rests devoid of emotion, something the man makes sure to note down.

"What do you think about?"

The mug continues to hold his attention.

"I… Uhh…"

"Do you ever have violent thoughts?"

Memories begin playing through the assassin's mind, as he recalls the last few years.

"No." He lies.

"Really? Plenty of boys your age do. Of course, we as a society haven't found a proper outlet for those violent thoughts yet."

"Oh…"

The mug. It's all he can really focus on, especially as the man takes another sip of coffee.

"I feel like you're not really engaging with me Hachiman… You're free to speak openly here."

As the sip of coffee is swallowed, and the cup is placed back down, Hikigaya feels almost as if a weight lifts from his shoulders. His eyes dart towards the older man's, and he frowns.

"Three sips…" He says, as the frown grows.

"What?"

"Three sips of strychnine laced coffee… That's all it takes."

The psychologist raises an eyebrow, looking over at the mug.

"What does that mean?"

"It means, next time you cheat on the sister of mob boss, make sure you're not followed. It means... my job is done."

Suddenly, the man feels a sharp pain in his stomach, followed by the lack of ability to breathe.

"Ugh! I…. UGH!"

He tries to speak, getting no words out.

"The poison is fast acting, so you'll be dead soon." Hachiman says, watching as the man violently struggles in his chair. "If it makes you feel any better, the police will know it was murder. They won't know I did it of course, but they'll know someone did."

The assassin slowly stands up from his chair, an emotionless expression remaining on his face.

Present Day – Friday – Auto Shop - 14:51

"Hiratsuka, I must warn against this…" Yukinoshita says with a worried expression on her face, as her and the older woman walk down the street.

"Yukino, I've already gotten an earful from both Hachiman and Rorona. I know the dangers, and I'm fine with it."

The wealthy-girl sighs and shakes her head.

"That's the problem… You may be fine with it, but I'm not. We spent the last few months doing our best to keep you out of danger and now you throw yourself headfirst into it."

"What can I say? You and Hachiman need my guidance."

"Surely you don't believe that." Yukino wonders out loud, looking over at Shizuka. "What experience do you have going undercover in a bank, or procuring a rare item on the black market?"

The teacher scratches her chin and thinks for a moment, before responding.

"Okay, you might have a point there, but I went with Hachiman and Rorona to learn. Right now, I'm putting those lessons to the test."

The two of them slowly stop walking, as they arrive at their destination – a large auto shop filled with mechanics and cars. The sound of loud machinery echoes through the building, along with a thin layer of steam clouding the area.

"I'm not sure if those skills will be required here. You and I are simply going to purchase some bikes to use as getaway vehicles."

As she says this, one of the mechanics spots her, and begins walking towards them.

"So, what's our story?" Hiratsuka muses, as the man gets closer.

"We don't need a story." Yukinoshita responds firmly.

"Of course we need a story! We can be a newly wed couple."

Shizuka quickly puts her arm around Yukino, causing the wealthy-girl to blush, before promptly pushing the arm off her shoulder.

"Th-That's, inappropriate."

"Are you Ms. Xiao?" The mechanic asks, as he stops walking.

"Yes." Yukino lies. "I'm here for the bikes."

"Excellent, follow me."

The two of them do just so, following the man through the auto shop to the very end, where several dirt bikes can be seen. Each bike is a different colour, some being red, others being green or blue. Two of them have been set aside, along with helmets, for the buyer.

The mechanic steps to the side, allowing Yukinoshita and Hiratsuka to get a closer look.

"Wow!" The teacher reacts loudly. "I haven't seen one of these up close in years!"

"You know how to ride?" Yukino asks, not taking her eyes off the bikes.

"Of course."

"Good."

With that, Yukinoshita grabs one of the helmets and tosses it to the older woman. Hiratsuka catches it, and smiles.

"The online payment cleared fine, you're free to take these now if you'd like." The mechanic says, smiling at them.

"Oh boy…"

Both of them put their helmets on, before climbing onto the bikes. As they turn them on, the auto shop is filled with the sound of loud engines roaring.

A few moments later, Shizuka and Yukino lean forward and ride out the auto shop. Driving out into the road, and heading home.
