Dear Miss Midoriya,
While you have passed the Hero Course Practical we at UA can not allow your acceptance for the dangers of heroics and your lack of a quirk and with your body being out of shape. We are glad to inform you that you also passed our support exam and we will more than gladly accept you there as your designs rival those of professionals. We hope to hear from you in the near future,
Principal of UA
Nezu
"No, I passed, but you won't accept me?" I said out loud in my house. I know I'm underweight and look like I have no muscles but I'm stronger than I look.
I sat on my bed and went through my sketches of ideas for my costume and came across an older one. It was a mask with some cat-like features, claws that could be used as weapons and to climb walls, boots that would let me glide with air flow, and small nonlethal darts and gas canisters to knock people out. I based the design off of the new(at the time) group the Wild Wild Pussycats. At the top was the name of the costume and what my hero name would be:
Prowler
I looked over the full designs and then came across a note I had written; claws can cut but not too deep, like the vigilante Stendhal.
That's it. I can become a vigilante, but I don't have the supplies here to build most of this. Wait, heroes leave broken equipment lying around while in a fight all the time. I can just take it and use it myself. I got the tools, I thought looking at the one room apartment I called my house. I had a bunch of tools and equipment I took from a beach that I got most of my supplies from. It was a trash heap but had a bunch of electronics that I could use in equipment. I had a small air mattress I used as a bed and a fridge with a microwave on top. I wasn't weak but I knew I was unhealthily thin. I lived on my own in the Kamino ward ever since my mom died and my dad "took me in" which meant that he paid for me to live in this run down apartment and an allowance that barely let me survive.
I looked at what money remained for the week and decided I had enough to get some clothes to help with the costume. I went to the store and bought some cheap tight black sweatpants with dark purple stripes on the sides, a black hoodie, and some purple fabric to make a mask. I then dropped the stuff off at my house before going to the beach and getting some supplies. I grabbed as much metal and computer chips I could find and stuffed them in my backpack. I walked home to get to work when I came across a big battle. It was a couple of newer heroes fighting a villain that had a wolf-like body.
"Crap," one of the heroes said, looking at his gauntlets. "He got the gears all bent up. Guess I gotta drop 'em," he said, removing them and dropping them to the ground.
I knew I had a special piece of gear I built to help if trash at the beach were to fall on me. I reached in and put the bracer on my wrist. I went to the side closest and where I wouldn't be seen. When I was younger I learned to hide to stay away from other people's eyes when possible. Once I was hidden between a trash can and wall with line of sight of the gauntlets I shot a web-like string and pulled the gauntlet to me. After making sure I wasn't seen I grabbed the second one and shoved them both in my bag with the other pieces of metal I had gotten. I then ran down the alley and through a few more until I got to my apartment and closed the door breathing heavily.
I just stole from a hero. I know they were more than likely thrown away but I still stole. This is to make me a good hero. I'll be just like the others and make the world safer, I rationalized.
I looked over the gauntlets to see they had holes around the arm to help them with a controlled release of their quirk. I remembered they could shoot glue out of their arms. I looked and found the mechanism that let the glue be stored had been bent. I spent a month working on them. I re-shaped the gauntlet to be thinner and all but the holes on the bottom and top of the wrist didn't exist. I then worked on a mechanism that would let me incorporate my web shooters along with some knockout gas I had made while working on them similar to Midnight's quirk. I made it so the gas would come out of the top and the webs the bottom. The webs were made of a liquid that became stronger than a metal string of the same size when it came into contact with air. It kept the qualities of normal webs and deteriorated after roughly a half hour. I looked at the time to see I had spent all of the night and most of the day working on it. I hid everything in the bottom of my work table and turned my air mattress on while falling asleep on it.
Sorry kid, but without a quirk you can't be a hero.
You're nothing but a useless Deku.
I'm sorry, but you don't have a quirk.
Why should I have to take care of a quirkless shit like you just because your mom was dumb enough to get caught in a villain attack?
Do us a favor and take a swan dive off a roof and pray for a quirk in your next life.
So, you're my granddaughter Izumi. You're going to be a great hero, I just know it. Maybe great enough to take my mantle.
I woke up in a cold sweat. I know all of those voices and conversations, but who was the last one? I didn't recognize her voice. Was that my grandma? I never met either of my grandmothers, did I? I thought. I looked at the clock and realized it was the next day.
I got up and started to stitch my mask together. I used a white mesh I could see through over some old sunglass lenses. I then stitched the mask to the hoodie so it wouldn't fall off. I then looked the gauntlets over and added some gloves that I had to protect my hands. I then started working on a different set of gloves to add claws to. I got the basic armor for the gloves on but left room for small mechanics. I looked in my mirror and decided that I looked ridiculous, but like a vigilante so my plan was working. I climbed out my window and down the fire escape to the alley next to my apartment. It was around seven in the evening so I could sneak from shadow to shadow unseen. I came across three guys teaming up on a girl who looked about my age with short purple hair.
"I said I'm not interested," the girl growled.
"Come one, we just want to show you a good time," one of the guys said.
"Yeah, a really good time," the bigger one said.
"She said no," I said, shooting a web at the bigger one's head and yanking back causing him to fall and his head to crash into the ground with a resounding thud.
"What the?" the one who hadn't spoken yet asked.
"Sleep," I said, shooting the gas at his face.
"W-w-wha?" he mumbled, falling to the ground.
"W-who the hell are you?" the last one asked.
"Easy, I'm the Prowler," I said, sweeping his legs out from under him and punching him in the face. I then webbed all of them to the ground.
"Thanks," the girl said. "I've never seen you, are you a new hero?" she asked, cautiously.
"Um, something like that."
"Wow, I literally just had my first day in the hero course at UA and then had to be saved from a group of thugs. Some hero I'll be," she sighed.
"I mean, better stall than use your quirk and get in trouble," I said. "You might need to call the cops to pick them up. Good luck at UA, I've heard you need a good quirk just to get accepted."
"Really? I guess my teacher was tough, also why can't you call the cops?"
"Um, sorry but I got to go," I said, turning and running away.
I went around and stopped a few more smaller crimes and left notes for the police while leaving them where people could find them. The weirdest one was a drug deal where the buyer's tongue was black for a weird reason. As the sun started to rise I headed back to the alley near my house and climbed up the fire escape to my house and climbed in through the window.
"Well, that was interesting. I need to make sure that I'm not caught," I said. I was concerned about what to do but couldn't help but smile. I'm a hero, they might call me a vigilante but I'm a hero.
The next day I started to sell patents for some of my equipment I made but wouldn't use. I used the name Nana so it wouldn't be tracked directly to me. I was going to slowly start to make an income to be able to save some money for a couple ideas for my mask and to make it armored and the lens have a built-in computer. I knew it was a few months if not a year off but it was good to start designs and be prepared. I added the claws to my gauntlets and added a scanner I built a while ago that let me pick up any signal, even ones that are static. My computer could tell me if an alert came during the day.
I was working on my mask by adding a top that added the cat-like ears that matched the armor I put on the rest of my suit and protected my head when it went off. I went and looked to see where the static broken signal was coming from.
"UA!? Who could be attacking them?" I asked myself. I can get there on foot in thirty minutes. I can't stand by and do nothing. I thought, tossing my suit into a bag and running out. I went as fast as I could while making sure I wasn't going to be out of breath when I got there. I checked my phone with the same scanner and noticed that it was from a place off the main campus. I snuck into an alley not too far away and switched to my suit which had upgraded armor and additional tools that I added in between nights patrolling. My boots were mostly for protection but didn't make too much of a sound. I climbed into a vent that was on the outside and climbed until I could see light. The area looked like a mountain and there were three (very attractive) girls against a bunch of dudes.
"Let's have fun boys," a low voice said.
"Hey, Jirou, Yaomomo, think we can take them?" a girl with a purple body suit on and green hair asked.
"With Yaomomo's help, we might be able to," the girl I had previously saved said.
"I'm not sure, Tokage, there's a lot of them and who knows how many more there are?" a girl with a very open outfit said.
"Get 'em!" a man said as all of them started charging.
I quickly jumped out of the vent and activated the claws on my hands as I slashed the first few villains. I then shot a web at another one and pulled him to the ground as I delivered a kick to his head.
"Who are you?" the green haired one asked.
"The Prowler," I said, using a voice modification box I put in my mask.
"This is twice you saved me, you're not tracking me or something weird are you?" the purple haired girl asked.
"No, just got a broken signal so I tracked it," I explained.
"Wait, you're the vigilante The Prowler? A little girl like you?" one of the villains asked.
"Vigilante? You said you were a hero," the girl said.
"I said I was something like that," I corrected. "But that's not important."
"I have to agree," the raven haired girl said.
"This is going to be fun, boys," a villain with strange hands said, walking up to us.
I webbed two of them and pulled my arms down while crossing them causing their heads to collide into the others head. I punched another and slashed the chest of a villain who had knife hands. I heard a thud and turned to see the raven haired girl swinging a quarterstaff and hitting villains. I noticed the purple haired girl had a katana and the other one was in half fighting one dude with her fist and another with her legs. Slowly the four of us defeated all of the villains in the area.
"Alright, now we can talk about your vigilantism," the purple haired girl said.
"The battle might be over, but the war is still going," I said, looking at the center. The hero Eraserhead was being beaten up by a huge, black, monster with an exposed brain and beak.
"Ok, you can't be serious," she said.
"I think she is," the ravenette said.
"That's hot," the split girl said.
"Tokage!?" the two other girls said.
"What? Tell me I'm wrong?" the now named Tokage said.
I looked to see the other girls blush a bit.
"I have to, it's what a hero does," I said, jumping and swinging on a web to get to the center.
"Who are you?" Eraserhead asked.
"An ally."
"Hmm, I've never seen or heard of you. Must be a secret summon mob," a scraggly man with hands on his body. "Nomu, get them."
The large creature charged at me but I sidestepped and slashed the side with my claws.
"Tauro, tauro," I taunted. I then watched as the cuts healed as the beast took a deep breath.
"He has super regeneration, your claws can't do anything to him," the man with hands said.
"Regeneration? How's his immune system?" I asked, releasing a cloud of gas in the creature's face. The monster then stopped for a moment. I then punched it and it fell backwards unconscious.
"What? I thought you were a monk but you must be a rogue with how you fight. Grrr, we weren't prepared for a npc like you," the man said.
"Tomura, we should retreat," a shadow said.
"Grr, well, maybe killing some kids might make things better," the man said, turning to look at a girl with a red hood next to a boy of chinese descent with a weird bracer and a boy with grey hair and markings around his eyes.
He moved faster than I could notice and he had his hand on the girl's face and I went to charge as it seemed to be how his quirk was activated, but nothing happened.
"You really are amazing, aren't you Eraserhead?" the villain asked, looking at the hero whose quirk was active, erasing the man's. Then a loud boom was heard at the doors as I turned to see All Might in a yellow suit tossing his blazer and tie to the ground.
"No need to fear. Why? Because I Am Here," he said, his normal grin replaced with a scowl.
"Grrr, Kurogiri, let's agh," the man grunted as I slashed his chest. I then knocked him down and stomped on his chest.
"You won't be going anywhere," I growled.
"Heh, sorry," he said, falling backwards into a black portal that closed as soon as he was gone.
"I must thank you for helping my colleague, but might I ask, who are you?" All Might asked, jumping to where I was.
"An ally who was nearby and helped."
"What's your name?"
"I'm The Prowler."
"I've heard of you, you're a vigilante," Eraserhead said, walking up. "While I appreciate your help we need you to come with us."
"I'd rather not. Sorry about this in advance," I said, taking out an extra big smoke bomb and setting it off obscuring the whole area enough for me to sneak off and out through a vent. I made it to an alley and changed into my normal clothes.
POV Kyoka
We were standing outside of the USJ. No one was injured except for small cuts and bruises. I was standing with the other girls in the class.
"I thought he was going to dust my face," Ruby said.
"What matters is that you're alive," Blake said, pulling her girlfriend close.
"Who was that?" Kamiji asked.
"Apparently, Jirou knows," Tokage said.
"Really, secret girlfriend?" Mina asked, getting closer.
"No, remember what I told you about what happened the day classes started?" I asked. They nodded in response. "Well, they were the person who saved me. They said they were the Prowler, I didn't put two and two together when I heard of the vigilante because they said they were a hero."
"Miss Jirou, can you please come with me?" the principal asked, walking up to our group.
"Y-yes sir," I said, following the small creature.
"I couldn't help but overhear what you said, can you tell me everything you know about this person?"
"Why aren't we just going after them?" Present Mic asked.
"First off, they came here even though they knew they would most likely be arrested. Secondly, they helped our students and Eraserhead. Third and finally, they are more than long gone and we have no way to track them," the principal explained. "This is to build a profile of them. If we can build a profile then we can easily find more about them."
"Oh, alright then," Present Mic said.
"So, Miss Jirou," he said, looking at me.
"After class on the first day I went on a run and I was near the Kamino ward when some guys cornered me and kept trying to convince me to go with them. I kept telling them no but they weren't taking it. That's when The Prowler arrived and took them all down. Their costume wasn't as put together as it is now and they didn't have the claws. I talked to them and they sounded like they were doing it not to be known but because it was the right thing. Also they didn't have a voice changer and sounded like a girl my age," I said, trying to remember all of the facts.
"Hmm, could you tell what her quirk is?" the principal asked.
"No, not really."
"What are some guesses on what it might be?"
"Possibly the webs, the gas, strength, speed, dexterity, or it could be that they can change their voice and we have yet to hear the real them," I said, thinking.
"Hmm, those are all good guesses. Some are more basic and others would be noticeable. Thank you for helping, you may go," he said, walking off with the other teachers.
I walked back to the other girls and felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to Yaomomo looking at me concerned.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"Yeah, just wanted everything I know about them. I honestly don't know what caused them to be a vigilante. I think they're our age and they could've easily joined the hero course so why didn't they?" I asked.
"Who knows?" Tokage said.
POV Aizawa
"So, what's the plan?" I asked as Recovery Girl looked me over.
"I want you to go to the Kamino ward for patrols and see if you run into them," Nezu said.
"Do you think they're a threat?" All Might asked in his deflated form.
"Not a threat, but a possible ally and student," Nezu said.
"Do you think they tried our exam and couldn't pass because of how it's set up?" I asked.
"I don't think so, we have a special test for mental quirks and ones that don't work on robots," Nezu said.
"Well, let's see if we can," I said.
AN-
So, this is an idea I've been building up to with some of my previous fics. Some of my fics are to see how people would react to some of my ideas. The following fics are either on hold or discontinued: Agent Nine, Revive Hero Yomi, Laughing Hero: The Joker, The Eevolving Hero, and The BDSM Hero: Dusk. A couple of themes and ideas from these fics will be shown. How I do tests for if an idea will work I will make a fic about it and that's what I did with some of my previous fics these are just the ones people ask about. Follow, Favorite, comment, and kudos. Have a great day!
