Pushed Too Far
The first thing that came to Phoenix's mind was that he was in hospital once more. The constant beeping of the nearby machines which monitored him every second that passed, the scent of powerful disinfectant hovering in the air like a bad omen, how bright the room was and how empty it made him feel. As he tried to life his arm, he felt a pull which made him uncomfortable and desperate to move the arm back where it had been before, resting limply on the uncomfortable bed. Hospital beds weren't made for comfort...but it sure did beat laying down on the couch at the Wright and Co. building. He was attached to a drip, some sort of fluid was being administered into his body. The liquid was clear but he didn't know if it was just water or if it was some sort of solution to help him replenish what he had lost.
Why was he in hospital anyway?
"Wright, you're awake." Phoenix knew that voice anywhere. He turned to the owner of the voice and felt a smile grow on his face. There, sitting beside his bed was Miles Edgeworth. A tall man who had silver hair yet cold grey eyes, his burgundy suit fitted him well, comfortably hugging the man while showing off his figure. Miles was sitting with his legs crossed with a book written in German in his hands. Upon seeing him awake, the bookmark was placed and the book snapped shut. "How much do you remember?"
"I remember…our favourite judge banging the gavel down…declaring a "Not Guilty" verdict. Stepping into the defendants lobby before…waking up here," Phoenix admitted, a small smile on his face.
"Wright, you passed out due to exhaustion! You always tell me to look after myself and then you pull a stunt like this?!" Miles snapped before he recoiled, tearing his eyes away from Phoenix as he gripped his arm. "What were you thinking?" He asked as he looked back at Phoenix. Miles watched as Phoenix struggled to sit up in the bed and went against his better judgement, simply sitting back and watching Phoenix struggle instead of helping him. He should have helped…but he was irritated at the man with the smile which rivalled the sunlight.
Phoenix finally got himself into a sitting position on the bed, but his heart was filled with guilt. Yes, he had often scolded Miles for not looking after himself and then Phoenix himself, had done exactly what he scolded Miles for. He couldn't even open his mouth to deny it. It was true after all, him being in hospital with an IV drip in his arm was evidence enough. A distraught Miles was another piece of evidence to be stacked up against him. Was the case worth putting his own health on the line? Probably not, unless it was Maya or another friend of his he held close. "I'm sorry Edgeworth."
"You better be sorry Wright! You had everyone worried!" Miles snapped. "I had to order Detective Gumshoe to escort Miss Fey back to your apartment. I will send word that you are awake. Expect a lecture from her when she arrives."
Phoenix couldn't help but laugh nervously at that. The last time he received a lecture from Maya it was about one of the Steel Samurai's specials. He learnt after that to keep his opinions and 'negative' comments about the show to himself. Phoenix chuckled and shook his head, "no, I'd rather not."
Miles' expression softened slightly as he looked at Phoenix. "Did you make a comment about Steel Samurai?" He asked and smirked slightly when Phoenix nodded his head. "You never learn, do you Wright?"
"Guess that's part of my charm~" Phoenix laughed.
"Don't ever lose it. Now, if you'll excuse me. I have a call to make." The prosecutor stood up from his chair and left the room to make the call. Phoenix lay back down and mentally prepared himself for the lecture and worry that his friends would bombard him with.
Thank you for reading and be careful out there.
