I woke up from my deep sleep, ready for the day ahead of me. It was a bright, sunny day, the grass flowing with the wind.
After I took a shower and brushed my teeth, I got dressed and headed down the stairs where my parents waited. My mom had an apron on, while my dad was deep into a newspaper, his signature glasses laying on his head.
"Morning," I said, taking a seat at the dinner table. "What's on the menu for today?"
"Eggs and Pancakes." she said, turning towards Dad and I. Our food sat on two plates, both filled with delicious foods. Mom's cooking is the best, and I doubt anyone could beat her at it.
As she placed the food on the table, Dad put his newspaper to the side, and grabbed his phone out of his pocket. "Do you seriously have to use your phone during breakfast?" Mom asked, a bit irritated at Dad's lack of awareness.
"Sorry," Dad said, scrolling faster on his phone. "I don't trust the new employees with my work, so I'm a bit nervous."
"It'll be fine. I doubt they'll do much anyways." Mom said, filling the last seat at the table.
"So...Kiyotaka, have you thought of which high school you're going to? Exams are near." Dad said, taking a bite of of his blueberry pancakes.
"I don't know, really. I'd love to go to ANHS, but that's for people with powers, so I might just go to a regular one." I said, staring at my food.
"You could still go there, just not in the hero department. Aren't you pretty good at tech?" Mom asked.
"Got it from me." Dad said, ruffling my hair.
"I guess," I said, stuffing pancakes into my mouth.
I walked out the door, my two friends waiting for me.
"Morning." I said, quickly hopping down the steps. They both greeted me with a slight wave, as always.
"Good morning, Ayanokouji! Did you study?" Karuizawa asked, bright as ever. I slightly nodded my head.
"That's nice. I wanted to, but Miyake over here wanted to patrol all night." Karuizawa said, rolling her eyes.
"It's for the safety of society!" he exclaimed. "Society isn't going to stop me from passing my exams!" Karuizawa retorted. The two began arguing again, for the seventh time in 2 days.
If you're a bit confused, my friends are heroes, or more like heroes in training. They're so skilled with their powers that agencies have already offered them a full job for them.
Karuizawa has the power "Graveyard", opposite to her happy personality. When this power is used, she can create skeletons to do anything at her command. If at full power she can make an army compared to the population of a country.
However, there's a side effect to it. Whenever one of her skeletons die, she feels a sharp pain in her arms and hands, removing the ability to spawn more skeletons for a few seconds.
Moving onto Miyake, he has the power "Earthquake", which is basically just earth control powers but with the option to make an actual earthquake. Right now, he can get up to 6.0 earthquakes, with the side effect being that it has a long cooldown depending on how high he goes. If he reaches 10, he has to wait at least 2 months just to use it again.
For me, however, I'm powerless. It's quite unfortunate, but I don't mind. As long as I can be around my friends, I'll be perfectly fine.
"So, what school are you going to?" I asked in the middle of their argument. They both looked at me as if the answer was obvious. "ANHS, of course. You going?" Karuizawa asked.
"I'm gonna try to, but it's gonna be hard," I said, slowing down to stay with their pace. "You guys are lucky, you can go to any school with ease."
"Nah, I'm just that good." Karuizawa said smugly. "You couldn't even beat a street level hero without my help a few months ago..." Miyake said, chuckling.
"That was because one of the villains disabled my powers, remember?!"
And there they went, arguing again. I looked at my phone, and scrolled through the news.
"There's a monster rampaging through 64th Street." I said, catching their attention.
"...Should we go?" Karuizawa asked Miyake. He nodded eagerly, ready to spring back in action.
"Alright, you got our updated suits?" Karuizawa asked me. I grabbed two metal containers and tossed it to them. Both of them nodded, and began running down the street.
"I added some durability mods by the way! Tell me if they work!" I exclaimed. They nodded, and continued running.
A smile created itself on my face as I watched them take down a large robot.
I really belong with these two.
