Authors note: This is a simple one shot to help build up my collection of fanfics I had once. To those who followed me thank you for your support and hopefully you will join me again as I get my bearings. For now this is my First Fairy Tail fanfic so hope you enjoy. Also this is a simple Natsu and Happy one.

Fairy Tail: Happy fishing

Natsu had a day off, snore. Honestly he would rather be beating something or someone up but considering the lack luster postings on the guild board he had no choice but to wait things out. See when one was in a guild a day off was very rare considering one had to pay rent and that meant keeping active on requests.

"I can't believe it...why is nobody requesting some hard hitting stuff anyway? Oh sure I could take on some chump requests, get a little flow, but it wouldn't even make a dent on rent. Can you believe our luck Happy?"

"Aye," Happy appears to say. Natsu and Happy had known each other since Happy was just an egg. He had raised Happy to the best of his ability and the two had been quite inseparable.

"What to do...what to do," Natsu hated not having anything to do. Oh sure maybe a nap would work, but, napping felt like it had to be earned. Right now he had his magic at full caliber and he was itching to break something.

"I know what we can do," Happy suddenly said. Natsu looks at his friend as he flies beside him, his expression growing curious.

"Alright, spill...and it better not be-."

Sure enough they were here at Happy's favorite spot in all of Magnolia. The fishing spot. Two fishing poles were at the ready and Natsu drops to the ground.

"What...did you have anything better to do?" Happy shoots him a look. Honestly if he had time perhaps he would have came up with another locale...but...this is what came out of his indecision.

"Fine Happy, we'll fish." He plops down taking up his rod as he looks out at the clear blue water. His friend took a seat beside him and honestly never looking happier.

"Hey Natsu," he looks over at him, but, for some reason he doesn't say anything other then that. Natsu lets it sit for a bit before he finally can't take it.

"What's up?" He goes back to looking at the water. Nothing seems to be biting which can only mean it is going to be one of those days. It wasn't like he hated fishing, truth is flamed fish was the best, but these days he just wanted to get to do an S-Class request but no matter how hard he fought he was always stuck down below.

"Well...it is nothing," Natsu waits a beat expecting him to continue but he doesn't. Natsu lets out a sigh and figures this conversation is going somewhere...so...seems it is up to him to pry.

"Alright Happy...what bites? I mean clearly it is not the fish and all so something must be eating away at you." Natsu forgets fishing for a bit as he looks to his friend.

"Well...do you think once you get to the second floor you will ditch me?" Natsu isn't sure he heard that right.

"What...ditch you, what would make you say that?" Natsu was worried and he could see the struggle on Happy's often cheerful face.

"I don't know...just kind of figured you would want an upgrade from me once you take on the more challenging stuff." So...that is what had him down.

"Happy, we are a team, no matter who joins us...or where we wind up in life, nothing is going to change that. You are one of my dearest and best friends and since you hatched out of that egg...I have considered you family."

Happy was starting to cry and Natsu reaches over rubbing his head. "Aye, and you are like family to me too Natsu. Phew, I am so glad I got that out of the way...don't think I'd have much of an appetite for fish if I kept that around."

"Somehow buddy I feel like you will never lose your appetite,"he leans back some allowing the sunlight to pour down on him. "Don't ever change Happy."

"Aye, same to you too Natsu. Ooh I think I got something!" Natsu smiles happy to see his friend just as he always has been, Happy. Lisanna, you should see how much Happy has grown up. Our family feels smaller without you around but we are getting by. Natsu shakes out of his reverie of thoughts as he goes to help Happy out with the fish. That day they hauled in quite a lot of fish. Naturally Happy would rather take his uncooked but for Natsu...that was just gross. Perhaps today wasn't a total loss after all.

Authors note: Honestly not my longest fanfic ever but also something to ease my toes back into the water per say. Anyway I'll write other fanfics in this title as I see fit. Till then thanks for reading.
