Chapter 14: The boy with the bomb
AN: Hey guys, these next few chapters come from season 3 episode 18 with Rory put smack bang in the middle! Let me know what you guys think.
Rory was sat in the choir room going over score sheets for the national's competition, they had finally got the theme for this year, it was regrets. After much discussion they had decided on the songs they would be singing, Rory was singing the duet with Jay as well as the solo to finish up their set with a group number in between. Rory has sung in fornt of crowds before but the anxiety was different this time, maybe it was because she had this ridiculous crush on a boy that was a year older than her, Jay had just turned 16 and had got his licence.
Rory had turned 15 a few weeks ago, she just wanted a quiet night in watching movies and having pizza with her NCIS family and her parents. McGee has set up her favourite movie of pretty woman on the screen in MTAC and Abby had decked the place out with blankets and pillows. It had been her favourite birthday ever, okay maybe not ever Disneyland Paris was a pretty hard to beat birthday. Her parents had some weird tension going on right now which she couldn't quite place but they were acting, or pretending to act normal around her. Rorys therapist suggested that she try not to focus so much on the negative parts of her relationship but pin point the positive she was seeing and how that was effecting her. Her parents had began having dinner together, with her more and they seemed to be getting on better at work and ntop bringing work home with them. It was a welcomed change.
"What you doing hiding in here?" Jay said appearing in the choir room breaking her out of her thoughts.
Rory looked up at him, smiling, "just going over the scores for natinals, only a few weeks away now."
Jay walked closer, peering over her shoulder and smirked, she was reading the score for their solo, "you know we could have a practice, just me and you" he whispered in Rorys ear. His breath on her neck sending shivers up her spine. Yup she was falling har.
Just as Rory was going to say something the bell rang, "well this will have to wait for another time," Rory said smirking making her way out of the choir room.
"Hey Rory," Jay called after her, she stopped at the entrace to the room and turned slightly to see him looking at her slightly concerned. "You going okay, you uh well you haven't been in the cafeteria at all this week" he said running his hand through his hair looking a little sheepish.
With every ounce of diplomacy and flirtation that Rory picked up from her mother she cocked an eyebrow at him, "didn't realise me not being in the cafeteria effected you so badly." She laughed wlaking away before turning her head over the shoulder, "tomorrow ill sit with you, make you feel better" she said with a wink and walked away out of sight. Jay shook his head with a chuckle and headed off to his class, Rory Joy Shepard-Gibbs was one of a kind, and he wanted her to be his one of a kind.
Gibbs famous gut had been churning all day, something just didn't feel right. His team were all on edge as he was about to snap any minute. Not that this was any different to the way he had been behaving the last few weeks, after his akmost kiss with Jen things had been the epitomy of awkward. They hadn't had 2 minutes alone to talk about it, whatever it was. Gibbs couldn't exactly say he didn't have feelings for Jenny, hell he never really fell out of love with her, but things were so goddamned complicated these days that he justs know how much the fight was worth it. Worth it is the wrong choice of words, any relationship with Jennifer Shepard was more than worth it, but any impact that it could have on Rory and her mental health was something they had to be super careful around.
She had seemed to be doing better, her eating was improving more everyday, although the school had mentioned that she had not been eating at lunch time. Her therapy sessions seemed to be going well and she was making more progress talking about her feelings. Him and Jen hadn't been fighting at all and they both had been making an effort to spend time with Rory together as a family and it was almost like old times, almost.
"Gibbs," he barked into his phone and the words coming from dispatch made his blood run cold, 'kid with a bomb at quantico high' Rorys school. "Do not inform Director Shepard" he barked into the phone and dispatch just agreed. His teams heads shot up up looking athhim and then each other with confusion written upon their face. "Gear up!" Gibbs barked and marched towards the elevator, his team running behind him. Not again, he want going to loose another child, not again.
"Are you sure we shouldn't tell the Direcotr Boss?" DiNozzo asked when they disembarked from the car at Quanitco. Giibbs stopped his almost run and turned to DiNozzo glaring at him.
"The Director knows nothing until we know whether or not her daughter is in any kind of danger DiNozzo!" Gibbs barked heading off to the command post, "Special agent Gibbs," he flashed his badge to the MP in charge "I need a list of the kids in the classroom."
The MP sat the stotic and nervously handed him over a piece of paper with 7 names listed on it. "We have everyone account for apart from the 7 names listed on the piece of paper." Gibbs scanned the paper to see the one name that made his blood run cold for the second time today Aurora Joy Shepard-Gibbs.
He turned to his team, attempting to compose himself "can you separate personal feeling from this." Gibbs barked at his team.
"Boss I think you should take a step-" Tony started before Gibbs got in his face
"Do not tell me what you think I should be doing DiNozz0" he sneered at him.
"Rule number 10, never get personally involved in a case." Tony retorted standing a little bit taller, the fear evident in his eyes.
"It is personal DiNozzo! My 15-year-old is in there, its Rory, its personal for all of us and I want the best people in there and that is us," he said poking him in the chest before turning to the rest of the team, "do you think you can handle this?" he asked and was met with a quick yes boss all round.
Inside the class Rory was knelt down beside her friend trying to calm her down, whispering comforting thoughts in her ear. "Whats wrogn with her!" Kody barked at Riley and she flinched, this was really not how she saw her day going. She was feeling pretty good after her chat with Jay in the choir room. Her and the class were all jokoing around in biology before the teacher came in when Kody just lost it.
"She has asthma cody, she needs her inhaler." Rory said when Kody tipped her bag upside down.
"Where it it!" he screamed. Nadia choaked out locker while gasping fro her breath. "You" he said pointing to neve, "you go and get it." Neve scurried out the room ridiculously fast and Rory knew in that moment that she was enevr coming abck into this classroom, there was no way in hell they would send a hostage back in, whoever was out there. Part of `rory was praying it wasn't her parents, she didn't want them near this, to feel the pain and fear, but the pther part of her hoped and prayed it was her daddys team who was dealing with this, because there was nothing team gibbs coudltn do.
When Neve ran out of the room she was grabbes by Mr Gibbs, it was Mr Gibbs! "Mr Gibbs hes got a bomb" she cried onas she was handed off to another agent.
"Debreif her!" Gibbs barked to Tony as he led the young girl out of the classroom. Tonys heart sunk a bit, he was glad a hostage was released but it really would've been easier one everyone if it had been Rory
