It was a warm summer Friday evening in Middleton, Colorado, and world renowned teen hero Kim Possible, was in the dining room, helping her mother, brain surgeon Dr. Ann Sarah Possible, set the table for dinner. It had been a quiet summer following the Lowrdian Invasion, but Kim was so lucky to have some free time to relax and spend time with the ones closest to her, including her family and boyfriend/partner, Ron Stoppable. "So honey, have you finally decided which school you're going to next month?" Ann asked with an eager smile. Kim could only roll her eyes as she knew what her mother was talking about. She did in fact finally decided on a college.
"Yes." Kim grinned. "Don't tell dad though, but...it's Upperton!" Ann squealed with delight at her daughter choosing her alma matter, then tightly hugged her, making Kim smile in embarrassment.
"But I thought you didn't want to go to school there." Ann said, tilting her head a little, remembering that Kim wanted to try an international college after she saved the world from Drakken turning the continents into his own super continent with a gigantic magnet.
"I know, but you really loved it there. It made you an awesome surgeon, and..." Kim said, trying to tell her mother the real reason why she chose it.
"Ron's going there?" Ann asked with a grin and arched eyebrow.
"Mom!" Kim blushed with embarrassment while Ann just chuckled. She then shyly admitted, "Yes. It was the only one he got accepted to anyway. Plus he was able to get a football scholarship."
"Well, I'm very proud of you both." Ann beamed. Kim smiled and the two hugged again before the phone rang. "Oh would you mind getting that, Kimmie? I need to go check on dinner." Kim nodded before rushing to the phone and answering it.
"Hello?" Kim answered. "I'm Kim Possible." Her eyes widened when she heard a familiar name. "Debbie Possible? Oh, yes. I'm her granddaughter." She knew the voice was talking about Kim's nana, who lived in Florida. But what the teen hero wasn't prepared for was what she heard next. When she heard it, all the light and energy disappeared from her personality. "Really? When? OK. Thank you for telling me." Kim then hung up and stood in the kitchen with a blank expression, wanting to cry her eyes out, but found she somehow couldn't. Ann then approached her.
"Kimmie, would you mind telling the boys dinner's ready?" Ann asked, but when she saw the blank expression on her daughter's face, the brain surgeon became concerned. "Honey...what's wrong?"
After what seemed like forever, Kim found her voice. "Nana died." she said softly, to which Ann gasped in sadness.
"Oh dear." Ann gulped. She felt like her husband, James Timothy Possible's mother was like family to her. She couldn't believe it happened so soon. But what really worried her was Kim's expression: still blank. "Sweetie, are you alright?"
"I'll be fine." Kim croaked out.
"Honey, if you want, you can cry with me." Ann offered, knowing that Kim's relationship with Nana was a special one. One of the times she's ever seen her daughter cry was at her grandfather's funeral. Ann hated seeing her daughter sad and depressed.
"I'm gonna go upstairs. I'm not hungry anymore." Kim said before slowly walking upstairs with Ann looking on with concern. She knew she would have to help her daughter grieve, but that would come later.
"I better call James." Ann said as she quickly dialed the number for the Middleton Space Center.
Upstairs in Kim's attic room, the teen heroine collapsed onto her bed and clutched her Pandaroo in sadness. She wanted to cry so badly, but couldn't. Kim wanted to break down and let everything out in one big sob, but her eyes wouldn't let tears come out. She then reached for her phone and dialed Ron's number. He answered on the first ring. "Ron?" Kim quivered a bit.
"Hey KP! How's it going?" Ron asked with his usual cheerful attitude. Kim gulped before telling him what happened.
"Nana's dead." Kim choked up, immediately concerning Ron. This was huge, and he hated seeing his girlfriend upset.
"Oh my. Kim...I'm so sorry." Ron cooed. Kim was able to let a silent tear fall from her eye and a sad smile formed on her lips. "Is there anything you need?"
Kim thought about it before answering, "Could you come over? I don't wanna be alone tonight."
"Of course. I'm on my way now! I'll see you soon." Ron smiled on the other line, making Kim smile back.
"Thanks, Ron. I love you." Kim cutely said.
"I love you too." Ron smiled before hanging up. Kim then placed her phone down and continued to clutch her Pandaroo in sadness, wanting to cry and waiting for the tears to spill out.
Later, Ann and James sat around in the living room, trying to process their grief. Ann of course, was still concerned about Kim's reaction to Nana's death, but didn't want to trouble James yet. "It just feels like a bad dream." Ann croaked in sadness, letting a few tears escape from her eyes. She decided not to tell the twins yet till morning, not wanting them to go through the same thing Kim is going through.
"I know, but at least she's with my father now. She will be missed." James smiled sadly, making Ann smile back as the two embraced in sadness. Just then, a very somber Ron Stoppable entered.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Possible." Ron greeted, confusing both parents as he usually called them, 'Mr. and Mrs. Dr. P.'
"Oh, hello Ronald. It's really good to see you again." Ann smiled. "I don't know if you heard..."
"Don't worry, Kim told me. And I just wanted to let you know I'm here for you all." Ron assured, making both parents smile. "I just came here to see Kim."
Ann was really touched. Hopefully Kim's boyfriend might help her grieve a bit. "Go ahead, Ronald." James said, dropping his usual overprotectiveness. This was, after all, a sad night. Ron then headed upstairs to talk with his girlfriend.
Up in Kim's room, the teen heroine gave up on crying, feeling like something was wrong with her. Just then, Ron entered and she gasped. "Ron!" she exclaimed as she embraced him and finally began to pour all her sadness onto him in heartbreaking sobs and tears.
Ron gulped, as he hated seeing Kim cry, which also made him cry. "It's OK...shhh...I'm here for you..." Ron whispered soothingly, running his fingers through her orange hair which became wet with his own tears. After awhile, Kim began to quiet down to a whimper. "I'm so sorry about Nana."
Kim drew in a shaky breath and faced her boyfriend with glassy eyes. "I really miss her. I can't believe she's gone." she choked out.
"I know how you feel. Well, I wish I did. My grandparents, they're still alive. I never really had a serious death but..." Ron said before Kim put a finger on his lips.
"Ron, it doesn't matter. I'm so glad you're here." Kim whimpered, more tears coming out of her eyes.
"I'm always here for you. Because I love you to the moon and back." Ron smiled, making Kim smile back.
"Please stay with me." Kim whispered.
"Of course." Ron agreed as the two laid down together, both of them in each other's arms, not wanting to let the other go. Over the next week, Kim would go on a roller coaster ride of grief.
