The dark pine trees lined the clearing. The cruel tabby's ice-blue eyes seemed to pierce into her. They looked harsh as well as taunting. His mouth was in a smile that looked anything but friendly. "Good, very good. Now, time to duel you myself, isn't it? Oh, and unsheathe your claws. What's a duel with sheathed claws?" He moved back and lowered to a battle crouch. She did the same, thinking of how she had learned from her dark mentor.

"Come on Ivy, I'll let you go first." Ivypaw immediately swiped at Hawkfrost, but he ducked. She dodged Hawkfrost's blow, but he still drew blood. She managed to make a small cut on Hawkfrost's side, drawing blood but ended up getting wounded. The silver tabby tried to spot an open point. But Hawkfrost got her first. She could taste the tang of her blood in the air. She collapsed into the moist soil.

"Huh, easier than I thought. More training needed."

"My paws were tired and stiff." Ivypaw growled.

"Okay, we'll duel again later." Hawkfrost shrugged, although he seemed to be humoring her. "Now, let's work on that dodge you made."

It was tiring. She couldn't get a full good night's sleep. She licked her wounds. Thankfully the other apprentices were either asleep or on a patrol.

"Ivypaw! You're awake. Let's go hunting." Cinderheart meowed, spotting her come out of the apprentice's den. She sighed. Training at night and training in the day.

"Coming!" She slowly walked over to her mentor. Cinderheart frowned.

"You look a bit tired today, Ivypaw." It was true. Last night was more training than usual. Well, thanks to that, she mastered a move and learned another, but she felt like she could collapse any minute. "Is something wrong?" Cinderheart's worried question snapped her back to reality.

"No, I'm okay. Where are we going to go?" Ivypaw tried to cheer up.

"Well, I was thinking of going to the farther territories we haven't hunted in a while. But we can just go to the-"

"No, it's okay." Ivypaw interrupted her. Cinderheart nodded, although she didn't look completely convinced. I know that I'm learning how to defend my Clan… but I'm so tired. No Ivypaw, you need this. This is the way to outshine your sister. Ivypaw wasn't sure if that was true. She first started because everyone compared her to Dovepaw, but now these lessons were getting intense. Suspiciousness has always been in her head, that she should stop doing these, but Ivypaw denied it. But now she felt like she couldn't trust her judgment. It almost felt as if these- no, Hawkfrost was controlling her.

"Ivypaw! It wasn't like you to miss a catch like that. Stop daydreaming. What's up with you today?" Cinderheart's hiss brought her back to real life. She realized that she lost her catch because her tail was visible to her prey.

"Sorry." She mumbled. "I'm a bit tired."

"I'll let you get some rest after you catch something." Cinderheart's gaze softened.

Ivypaw grabbed a vole from the fresh-kill pile. She caught sight of Dovepaw entering the camp. Ivypaw avoided looking at her. I don't want to see her again, Ivypaw thought. It was her fault. The silver and white apprentice finished the vole and talked to Thornclaw who was on guard duty.

"Can I go hunting on my own?" She asked. Thornclaw nodded and she exited camp. She wasn't really going hunting. Well, she'd pick up a mouse or two. She began unconsciously walking to the lake. I want to be a better warrior… but is this the right way? Or is this only what my jealousy of Dovepaw brought me to? She stopped. She must've been running. She could now feel the water of the lake on her paws. Ivypaw closed her blue eyes. She walked farther down. Her legs were drenched. It wasn't that unpleasant. The breeze made it even colder, but she felt like she couldn't feel the coldness.

"I really should catch something and go back now." She muttered to no one in particular. She didn't want to go back to camp. She was tired. She didn't want to sleep. She didn't want to get hurt. She didn't want to do anything anymore.

"Why am I such a coward?" She could feel her tears falling into the lake. Then she jumped. Maybe she felt that the cold water was better than the darkness.

I really wanted to make an angst fic. So I created this. Sorry that it's short and dark. BUT I'VE REALLY WANTED TO DO THESE. So um, thank you for reading. Also, in the end, let's say that Ivypaw was rescued by some ThunderClan cat who happens to know swimming. Yes, Cinderheart maybe. Or she died.
