A Dweller Above.
Chatter. Loud chatter. Lily winced rolling over her side in a strained attempt to hold onto a few more hours of sleep. She was thwarted however, when a boot collided with her side, shoving her off the small rugged bed, body landing onto the ground with a heavy thud.
"Rise and shine blondie!" the sweet voice of Lyra Write greeted her. Lily winced, swatting a hand in the air once before she forced her body up and blinked away the lingering sleep.
"M'kay I'm up Ly, no need to kick me again," Rough with sleep, her voice cracked slightly as she sat on the edge of her bed, fishing her black, worn boots out from under it and going through the process of putting them on. "Mind telling me why you're kicking me off when you've got leg-rot?"
"The boys were too scared to wake you up, had I let you sleep any longer Lady Caroline would have my head you know." Lyra tugged Lily's deep brown coat off a nearby hook, dusting it off a bit before holding it out for the blonde woman to take.
"Thanks… but that's besides my point." Lily shrugged on her coat, turning to give Lyra a concerned once-over. The dark haired, blue eyed woman gave her a pointed stare.
"I'm aware Lily." she sighed, running a small hand through her lengthy black locks before turning her gaze back to Lily's golden stare. "But I know my limits."
With a sigh, Lily nodded. She stopped by her door, meeting Lyra at the entrance as she reached up, grabbed Lily's wide brimmed hat, admiring the faded red ribbons before placing it gently on top of Lily's head. She smiled fondly at the shorter blonde woman before she startled in surprise.
"Oh! I got you a gift. It is your birthday, isn't it?"
Was it? Lilly couldn't remember in all honesty. Birthdays seemed a life-time ago, literally. But the pure happiness radiating from the taller woman had Lily biting her tongue, and nodding her head in the affirmative.
"Come-come!" Lyra ushered the other woman down the rickety old stares of the building they called Home. striding over the lobby of The Couriers Rest. a place purely for Couriers and those who worked for the Chain to stay. Lyra darted behind the lobby's half put-together counter, leaning down to grab something hidden behind a pile of crates, she spun around and held her hands out to Lily. "Surprise!"
Hanging limply in her hands was a somewhat washed out wedgewood blue scarf, tassels dangling from the end of its limbs. Lily reached out her hands, mouth parted in surprise as she felt the soft cotton material between her hands, her golden eyes darted up to Lyra's face in a silent question.
"I wanted to get you something special, and something that you'd like. I remember once that you told me your favorite color was blue… this was the best I could find." Lily's face softened. Wrapping the scarf around her neck, and adjusting the collar of her coat to better accommodate it, she surged forward to hug Lyra tightly.
"You didn't have too," She mumbled to the taller woman.
"I know," Lyra hummed, returning the hug with great enthusiasm. "But when I saw it in the markets I couldn't say no. It's not everyday you find something dyed blue down here." The dark haired woman pulled back, admired Lily once more before she began to usher her out of The Courier's Rest. "Now off with you! Before Lady Caroline gets impatient!"
Lily huffed out and amused to laugh, swatting her close friends hand away. "Yes, yes. Take care of yourself!"
With the now growing distant reply of her friend's goodbye's being returned, Lily made her way through the winding alleyways of the underground towards a fairly prominent tavern a short distance away. Slinking through the growing crowd of patrons and squeezing her way towards the bar, she waved down a burly looking woman, with short dark brown hair and matching eyes. The barmaid nodded her head towards the back room behind the bar, and with a quick thanks Lily slipped into the back room.
It took a second for her eyes to adjust to the much darker room, it was small, a few chairs sat next to its table. Cards and leftover booze laid on its surface. Lily's nose scrunching up from the smell wafting in from the front bar as she closed the door behind her. Movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention, turning to face the tall, lanky figure of a man not too much older than herself. Sporting soft blonde hair in a bun and welcoming blue eyes which hinted at jadedness that wasn't visually present on his body. He waved at her, a smile tilting the corners of his lips up.
"Hey Lil. Nice scarf by the way, looks good.'" The man greeted. "Ready for work? We're just waiting on Josh."
"Morning Tim, and thanks." Lily yawned her reply. Her gaze was welcoming but otherwise impassive. She took a seat at one of the tables, pulling out a worn knife to start picking at the dirt under her nails, her face scrunching up in disgust.
"Hmph, that boy's late again?" A new voice greeted the two this time. The woman from the front earlier had now entered the room. Her tone is gravely yet warm and feminie. She passed the two without much of a greeting and instead lent again the wall opposite the door, her face pulled into a scowl. "I swear, I give that boy a room and a job and he has the damn audacity to show up late again."
Summoned by the she-devil herself, Joshua bursted through the door, face lightly dappled with fresh sweat as the muscular man, just shorter than Tim, stood in the doorway looking disheveled and somewhat flustered. Lily's eyebrow rose in amusement, as Timothy let out a cough to hide his laughter.
"About Bloody time," Lady Caroline scoffed, the muscular woman crossing her arms as she gave Joshua a long hard stare. "Sit."
"Yes Ma'am!" Joshua's deep voice inched higher as he darted for a chair, using this moment to straighten out his clothes and fix his disastrous brown birdsnest. Lily shared an amused look with Tim before the sigh that left Lady Caroline's lips drew their undivided attention.
"Now that we're all here," Another sharp look from the brown eyed woman. "Let's talk business. Josh, only two jobs for you today, lucky bastard. One's for the Ravagers, just coins from the street, and another is a delivery of Forrent to the Dwellers."
Forrent. Lily suppressed a frown. Forrent was one of a few kinds of drugs produced in the underground. Mainly spearheaded by "Vex" the head of District One, the current District they were in. It wasn't as bad as the others that floated around these parts, mostly used by Miners, or as they call them "Dwellers". Helps keep them awake apparently, Lily would have to take their word for it as she wasn't going to try any of those anytime soon.
"Tim, Three today. They're all Peddler's work so there's no real danger. Unless you're afraid of a few drug-addled maniacs."
Tim nodded, sitting straighter in his chair. Peddlers the term coined for those working directly for the Drug chain. And for people who lived in District One. Doing drug runs was truthfully the safer work, as Lady Caroline said, the real only danger is the drug addled and desperate.
"And last but not least, Lily. One for you," Upon noticing Lily's growing frown, Lady Caroline flashed her a smile. "Don't worry Doll, this one's straight from the top. Personal request for a Vetted Courier. One of Vex's boys has a high risk job, and you're the best I got girly. Can I count on you?"
Lily nodded, stray bits of blonde hair falling from her loose ponytail from the movement. Lady Caroline clasped her hands together before she handed the boy's their Deliveries for the day. She paused at Lily however.
"You're off to see Victour Krass, He's one of Vex's right hand men, so play nice wontcha doll?"
"S'long as they do." Lily shrugged, her tone serious despite the playful shrug. Lady Caroline rolled her eyes in response, turning to leave for the front bar, a sound of cheers following her exit from the excited patrons.
"Don't go getting yourself killed Lily." Joshua's serious tone caused Lily a bit of surprise, her attention snapping to the board man.
"What makes you think I would?" Lily questioned, her tone flat but her look sincere.
"Dealing with Peddlers is one thing. But Krass is serious business. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him." Joshua grunted, his face pulled into a scowl.
"I've been dealt with S Tier jobs before, this isn't my first time.." She paused, her eyes narrowing on her friend. "Unless you know something I don't?"
Joshua froze under her stare, fidgeting with his package, he glanced at Timothy for silent assistance. Timothy's quiet sigh had Lily flashing him a questioning stare.
"What Josh is referring to is the recent disappearance of some Couriers. All seem targeted towards Vex's high risk jobs."
"Disputes between Districts happen all the time. It wasn't that long ago Ravagers got into an almost all out skirmish with the Vultures." Lily pointed out. It happened roughly about a month ago, time being hard to tell when you barely see the sky. The Ravagers is the coined name for the primary gang in District three, a group of people who use a "Protection Racket" scheme. As for the Vultures? They are the top dogs in District Two, the "Red Light" District, Human trafficking and brothels are everywhere there. The sick bastards would find the desperate, offer them food, a bed, in return? Anything they wanted, their life now belonging to the Vultures.
"This is different." Joshua pleaded, his expression strained.
"How?" Lily's tone was serious, her gaze flickering between her two friends. Timothy licked his chapped lips, walking in close to Lily and leaning down towards her ear.
"People say Vex is working with the MP's… and both the Vultures and Ravagers aren't liking it." He whispered. "Apparently he's been sending his boy's topside to sell their drugs."
"So you think the Vultures and Ravagers are making a move against Vex by scaring the Couriers that work for him?" The nods from both Timothy and Joshua caused Lily to frown.
"I can't say no to this money. With Ly's case of Leg rot, and no real doctors being down here, her only real chance of living is if we get Topside."
"Yea… I get you. But Ly… but we won't make it far with you dead." Joshua stepped closer, a hand rested gently on Lily's shoulder. She could feel the slight tremble in his hands as she regarded his light brown eyes. The smaller woman nodded solemnly.
"If things get too dangerous, if I think it's not worth the risk, I won't take it." Her voice was quiet but firm. She took a moment to look both of them in their eyes before she nodded once more. "We should get going, before Lady Caroline gets too impatient."
The two boys nodded, Timothy letting out another sigh as he started towards the door. Joshua followed behind, looking over his shoulder once more at Lily before the two disappeared into the crowd of patrons. Sucking in a deep breath, Lily followed the pair out of the Tavern.
Thankful to be out of the rapidly growing tavern, Lily followed the winding paths through District One, heading towards the main headquarters -if you could call it as such- of the Peddlers. Rounding a corner a little too fast, she startled a Peddler thug, a knife pulled swiftly from his belt and pointed straight at Lily's smaller frame. Ducking quickly under the swing, she skittered back a few feet, holding her hands up in surrender as she scowled at the thug in annoyance.
"Hey! I'm a Courier. Here for Victour Krass." Lily's soft voice hissed, an angry glare shot towards the startled man. His eyes widened in return, he coughed to hide his surprise as he stuffed the knife down the belt of his pants.
"R-right. Can't be too careful." He excused himself, eyes darting around conspicuously. He stood there awkwardly as Lily stared him down. She quirked a thin brow at the nervous thug.
"Do you want me to tell your superiors you've been slacking on the job or are you going to show me to Victour Krass?" Lily grounded out, her face pulling into a look of disapproval. The taller man shrunk slightly at the small women's imposing stare.
"R-right, this way Miss courier." He skittered in the direction of an open door, trying in vain to regain some form of dignity. Lily was once again Thankful Couriers had a decent reputation of dealing well in fights, they had too. The Underground is completely unchecked by the law, unless you do something to incur the wrath of the Military Police, they couldn't care less who's meal you spat in. Or in the case of the underground, who's son you've murdered.
Lily suppressed a frown at her inner thoughts. She had been incredibly lucky to avoid having to drive a killing blow into anyone, but she'd be naïve to think she could continue surviving without being pushed that far, no matter how hard she wants to pretend she can be as "good" of a citizen, underground good and bad didn't exist, everything was a shade of gray, nothing black or white.
She tensed as several loud shouts came from her right. Her hand slipped onto her crude knife, strapped to her thigh, resting on the hilt. A group of men and women gathered around a table, dirty and stained cards in hand as a few argued over another cheating.
"This way," The voice of the thug from earlier called her attention, she gave the man a firm nod, her face pulled into an almost permanent scowl. She hated dealing directly with the District gangs, but there is little other choice.
"Mr Krass?" The thug knocked on a rotting wooden door, pausing slightly before continuing to announce their presence. "The Courier from the chain has arrived."
"Let 'em In!" The croaky voice from behind the door responded. The thug opened the door wide, stood off to the side and gestured for her to enter. Lily held his stare for a few heartbeats before she stepped through the threshold.
The woman wanted to gag right then and there. It smelt horrific, like stale smoke, rotting food, and feces. She couldn't suppress the visual disgust on her face, but managed to placate it enough to not seem terribly rude. Looking around the room was scattered half eaten foods, rotten beyond use, as well as smoke pipes left on the ground and everything seemed to be covered in a layer of dust. A bed sat in the corner, not made, sheets strewn everywhere. Across from her was the hunched form of what only could be Victour Krass, the man's mop of black hair was greasy from lack of bathing, as a pair of cracked spectacles sat on his face he greeted her with an unnerving smile. Behind him was a table and chair, littered on the surface seemed to be varying degrees of paper and spilt ink, something she couldn't make from the distance was drawn and written on the pages.
"Ah-ah! Finally, started ta' think ya' got lost!" Victour waved her over, however Lily stayed her ground standing just in front of the now closed door, arms across her chest. She was pretty sure she could smell him well enough from where she stood. He frowned but shrugged, taking his seat and spinning it around to sit. "Mm, Got a job for ya' that needs doing. Vex wants ta extend his reach further than the underground. But the shitty good-fer-notting boys we keep sendin' up with those bastard MP's don't come back with any coin."
Victour followed his exaggerated talking with his hands, a scowl twisting his features until he paused to push his cracked glasses further up his face.
"Dat's why he's gone an hired ya'. Need someone competent ya hear?" He straightened up. "Good money. Lotsa money. S'long as ya do it right n proper." Lily held her palm up, her gaze darkening. Is what the boys were talking about?
"So you want me to smuggle your drug Topside with a handful of… what? Corrupt MP's?" Lily's tone was serious, borderline incredulous by the end.
"Ya. What's wrong with it?" He tilted his head, greasy black hair parting enough to see a gnarly scar running up the left side of his face, from hairline to chin, straight down.
"Have you considered the shit stains you sent with them haven't come back because of the MP's?" Lily bit out, her fingers wrapped around her bicep began to dig into her. Her frustration at the situation began to seep into her posture.
Victour laughed. Like the suggestion itself was a joke. Lily gritted her teeth, she always knew Peddlers had a few screws loose but this was taking the cake.
"Naw, Vex's gone and shot them after the rats tried to take off with tha money. Complained it was too risky. Dat, and the few others kept on getting found out." Victour waved his hands, as if the murder of a human was casual. All things considering it probably was for them. Lily suppressed the frown at the morbid thought.
"What happens if I say 'no'?" Lily cut to her chase.
"Don't think ya be wanting to say that, ain't ya the one with that girl? The one with the leg rot or somethin'?" He paused as if thinking. "One done job for ya, could get her the fix she needs to shake it off."
Pausing, Lily considered his words. The leg-rot was rapidly growing worse, that Lily could tell with how fatigued Lyra was becoming. While yes a doctor would certainly be the better option, but there were temporary treatments underground. Had you the money. Her fingers once again dug into her biceps as she made her decision.
"I'll do it. But once only, afterwards you find another Vetted Courier."
"Hmph, suit yourself. Might change ya mind after gettin' paid."
With the agreement made, Victour called in the thug from earlier, demanding he show Lily to the MP's Who were waiting for the Courier to arrive. Apparently they already were by the satchels of drugs, packed and ready to be smuggled.
The plan was for Lily to pose as a newly made "citizen" in reality she's using her new MP friends to get her past the checkpoint. Carrying her "belonging" Topside, the MP's with her are there to assure she makes it through it all. They'll lead her safely to a designated meeting location of a conspicuous merchant who'll take these Satchels off her hand and give her matching ones full of coins. At that point Lily is to cloak herself and allow the MP's to cuff her. They'll keep a Satchel for themselves, and once back underground, will uncuff her, and leave the rest of the Satchels with her. At that point it's her job to make the run back to Victour Krass's. Why no thugs for protection? Apparently with the Vultures and Ravagers greedily watching the Peddlers work, there's sure to be a skirmish. But a lone Courier doing their job? Far less attention will be drawn. The plan in her opinion was shit, but she could make it work. She had to make it work.
Two men finally came into view, both tall, but the tallest one had light brown hair, a beard and hazel eyes. The beard made him look older than what his posture suggested. He seemed nervous, new. The man beside him was only just shorter, with black hair in an undercut, and matching black eyes, he seemed far more mature. That is until his eyes find Lily's and the sneer that pulls at his face made her seriously reconsider doing this job.
"I'm Will Lyons, that's Cassidy Wyre." He snorted, giving Lily a once over. "Thought you said we were going to be running with a professional, not a little girl."
If looks could kill Lily was certain Will Lyons would have dropped dead at this point from the sheer force of her glare. She switched her gaze to Cassidy, who seemed to actually Shrink under her glare. Good one of them was sensible. Lily waved the accompanying thug away, not taking her eyes off the pair of MP's.
"Lillian Carter." She introduced herself stiffly. Electing to ignore Will's earlier jab at her height, Lily got straight to work hauling the satchels onto her being. Once finished she eyed the two with an expectant look.
"Kay, interestin' talk." Will dwalled boredly. "Anyway, just follow us Dweller. Don't fall behind and we'll get along fine." Cassidy's gaze darted between his elder and Lily, opting to keep his mouth shut as he followed behind Lily, making their way up the long steps to the surface.
Lily decided in order to keep her cool, and maintain a good rhythm with the heavy satchels she carried, she'd count the steps made. It was a boring task but one that took her mind off the burning in her shoulders and legs. Some time had passed before either of them spoke up, the silence eventually being broken by Cassidy.
"Sir… how're we getting her past the Checkpoint?" Cassidy's voice was deep, but shook slightly with nerves.
"You got the ledger I tossed to you earlier right kid?" Will's tone was gruff, almost bored.
"Yea?"
"Don't lose it."
"I'm assuming you're pretty green aren't you?" Lily interjected, her face neutral as she looked at Cassidy expectantly. The younger man sputtered, a poor attempt was made to keep his cool. Lily saw right through it, she clicked her tongue. "Stop sputtering. If you're going to react like that to every question thrown your way, everyone will be able to read you like a book."
"Can you even read?" The poor attempt at an insult fell flat. Lily's responding blank stare caused Cassidy to wince.
"I can." She responded flatly. She turned her gaze towards the top. They were close but still out of ear-shot. She lowered her voice. "Whatever you do, keep your face neutral and respond with one-worded answers if questioned directly. Let Will do the talking, and if need be me."
"I- Will?" Cassidy turned to Will, silently asking for some support. Lily rolled her eyes as Will's Scowl turned to Cassidy.
"What? Even I'll admit she's got a point. If you wanna get paid kid, keep your mouth shut." Was Will's only response.
The Trio made it to the top, Lily hunched her shoulders, averted her gaze to the floor and schooled her features into something more somber, and soft. Will approached first, talking to the fellow MP's at the checkpoint before either Lily or Cassidy could arrive.
"Citizenship please." Dwalled a very unenthusiastic woman. She was just taller than Lily and was making a very poor effort at hiding her sneer. After a few seconds of waiting, and quickly realizing that Cassidy had all but froze, she sharply nudged his side.
"I- oh. Yea here." Fishing out the ledger he handed it to the woman. She paused, a brow raising as she read it over. Will waltzed over, sliding a coin purse onto the desk in front of her as he stared knowingly at the woman. Her lips pursed, a moment of debating before she silently took the purse, hiding it on her person and nodding her head.
"This all checks out. On your way."
The trio didn't hesitate as they made their way topside with a brisk pace. Walking out to daylight for the first time after going on six years now took a moment for Lily to adjust. Her eyes wincing with effort as the bright sun greeted her once more. Hello, Old friend.
"Psht- Hurry up and quit gawking at the sun, Dweller." Will called, Lily scowled, rushing up to his side fast enough for the man to flinch. When he realized she merely meant to catch up his tense shoulders relaxed slightly.
"Do me a favor and stop bringing more attention to me." Lily hissed, her eyes scanning the few civilians staring at her oddly. Will took a moment to realize what she had meant, and his head ducked slightly in embarrassment. He was quick to lead her to a much more secluded part, an alleyway where at the end sat a carriage. A round looking man in fine clothes waited patiently.
"Cassidy, stay at the mouth of the Alley, if anyone tries to pass. Stop them." Lily ordered. Her hard honey-brown gaze locked onto his hazel ones. He paused, debating a second before he hopped over to the start of the alley, waiting impatiently. Will gave her a passing glance, his face scrunched as his eyes searched her face for a moment before surging forward to greet the merchant.
"Mr Tarkan." Will greeted quietly. The pudgy man turned to Will with a charismatic smile, arms wide in a greeting.
"Will my boy, How fair you?" His voice was smooth, and there was no real edge or harshness that Lily has now become accustomed to. Strange to hear again.
"Good, but please let's just get this over with." Will turned to Lily, grabbing one of the Satchels to load it up. "That's Lillian Carter. Underground Courier."
"Oh, I've heard of them, apparently they're the quickest and toughest around." He fiddled with his mustache for a moment, eyeing Lily curiously. "Though, I wasn't expecting a woman so… tiny."
Lily rolled her eyes, moving to load the last satchel, letting Will take over the conversation for the meanwhile. She started unloading the Satchels of coins, finding them to weigh much more than the previous satchels. Suddenly she was glad didn't have to carry them all the way back on her own.
"Pleasure doin' business Mr Tarkan." Will shrugged the last satchel onto his shoulders, voice gruff with uninterest.
"Please, Call me Orin."
"Psht- yea sure, whatever. C'mon Carter." Will had already turned around and started his way over to Cassidy. Lily noted silently the use of her last name. It's better than Dweller.
Lily handed her Satchels over to Cassidy, who had already started to complain about the weight. Will threw her a cloak, once it was in place he cuffed her wrists together before leading the way once more.
"God, why's it gotta be so heavy?" the third complaint had finally left his mouth.
"Would you shut up? At least you're not carrying all of them through the most dangerous parts of the walls. Idiot." Lily hissed. Already feeling angsty with how close they were to being done. The trek back was uneventful, moving past the checkpoint was silent, as none seemed to truly care what happened. As they reached the bottom of the steps, Lily felt her muscles tense. Here was the truly difficult part.
Will was quick with her cuffs, pocketing them away, he dropped his satchels, Cassidy doing the same. They seemed to linger, unsure what to do from this point on. Lily's curious golden gaze darted between the two.
"Do you need something?" Her tone was flat, but hinted at curiosity.
"You know you're not half bad for a Dweller." Was Will's blunt reply. "You actually got a decent head on your shoulders. Unlike some people" This time his gaze turned to Cassidy, who visually Shrunk under his annoyed stare.
"Yea, Try not to get caught by higher ups." Lily replied awkwardly. Shouldering the satchels, she gave them a nod each before spinning around.
"Don't die out there." Was Cassidy's quick interjection. Lily looked over her shoulder, regarding Cassidy's pinched expression. Had I really made such an impression? Regardless, that was beyond the point. She gave Cassidy another nod and took off towards Victour's.
She most probably wouldn't have had half the strength she does now back before her death. Her muscles felt sore, and burned with effort but her pace never slowed as she made her calm dash towards her objective, her eyes scanned each alley with suspicion, making a few detours when she saw prowling Ravagers. And finally when Victour's residence came into view, she could feel a sigh of relief leave her. The thug she startled seemed more alert this time, so when she rounded the corner he withheld the urge to slash at her.
"Ah, Lady Courier!" He seemed excited, hurriedly ushering her toward Victours, who this time was waiting in the lobby. Perched in a chair, he greeted her with an excited smile.
"And She returns! New ya had it in ya'" Lily placed the satchels on the ground, watching as Victours thugs leaped into action. Lily's gaze hardened as she turned to Victour, her hands on her hips as she refused to let her exhaustion show.
"My pay?"
"Ever to the point, eh?" Victour waved his hand. A woman strode over, a sizable bag in hand, weighted with coins, Still not as heavy as the satchels passed into Lily's hand. "Satisfied?"
"Very." Lily nodded once, turned and stalked out of the door. Stuffing the coins into her coat she briskly made her way back towards The Couriers Rest. her limbs aching with effort as she whizzed through the underground. It was dangerous wandering around with large sums of money. Easy way to get pickpocketed, robbed or mugged. Possibly worse. As she came up to the last few turns, she could hear the raised voices of Lyra, Timothy and Joshua. Confusion morphed into Lily's face as she finally rounded the corner, passing to the front of the Rest.
"There you are!" Lyra had all but stumbled into Lily's form. The shorter woman had to catch the dark haired girl. "I've been worried sick!" Lily threw the two boys a questioning glance, to which they returned guilty gazes.
"You…were?" was Lily's flat response, the confusion evident on her face.
"We may have told Ly why you're so late. That you had a job from Victour Krass… and well, Ly had only just heard about the death rate on his jobs, she assumed the worst." Timothy informed, his voice laced with guilt.
"We didn't think it was that bad. Had we known we might've tried to tell you not to go." Joshua sighed, running a hand through his messy brown hair.
"What do you mean, 'that bad' I'm back, I'm paid and we're all alive."
"Krass isn't one to just let his employees 'go'" Lyra gritted out. Her tone angry despite the worried look she kept throwing Lily. "He's manipulative, shady and doesn't like not having things his way."
"We agreed on one Job." It was more of a statement as she looked between her three friends. Her face carefully kept neutral.
"I wish it were that simple Lily…" Lily felt a pit in her stomach grow as she took in the aghast looks on her peer's faces.
"How far will he go?"
"As far as he needs to secure what he wants."
Shit.
