Pansy sat on the furthest table from the door, at the Hogwarts library. The silence deafened her, as the room was empty at this time of night. She told herself that she liked it that way, that she preferred the suffocating loneliness. She read the same paragraph for the third time, trying to understand what the bloody chapter was about. That's what she got for not being invited to study groups. Not that she would join if they invited her, she thought. She was the bitch of Slytherin after all, she had an image to uphold after all. Maybe she should have that in a plaque, put it next to her bed.

Her musings were interrupted by a set of footsteps behind her. They were very light, barely imperceptible, bit in the profound silence, they resonated like rain on a metal sheet.

"Who 's there?" Grumbled Pansy, mad that someone dared to interrupt her reading.

"It's me" announced a small voice right next to her. Pansy jumped with fright, looking at

the intruder. A petite girl, silver blonde, with huge, blue eyes stood next to her. She was dressed in a light dress, more bedwear than proper clothes. The Slytherin also noted she was barefoot, barely some thin socks covering her feet.

"Lovegood!?" The older girl blurted "what the fuck are you doing here? And dressed like that?"

The small blonde frowned , her expression losing her unfocused stare for a second .

"I'm just looking for some blibbering humdingers" stated the young girl. "They come out on the night of the new moon"

"But today is a full moon" said Pansy, so puzzled she even forgot to be a bitch to the Ravenclaw. She was sure the blonde was lying, she knew that Chang bint and her friends liked to mess with the loony girl.

"Either way" Lovegood dismissed her. "It's a good time for searching for something" affirmed the girl, nodding insistently. She made a thinking face "May I keep you company?"

The question took Pansy by surprise. What am i doing? Being civil to Loony Lovegood even! She snapped back "what are you asking? Leave me the fuck alone Lovegood!"

The Ravenclaw looked sad for a moment, then turned back to her emotionless stare and whispered "I don't really think you want to be alone, Pansy" then turned around and dissapeared Behind a bookcase.

That parting comment pierced through her chest like an arrow. Why did it feel so true? Why was she questioning her choices? More over, she couldn't stop feeling a knot in her stomach, akin to what she felt when seeing a wounded puppy. Am I feeling pity? What the fuck?

She gathered her stuff and started heading to the dungeons. She could study no longer.

Two weeks went by, and Pansy saw hide nor hair of the wispy blonde. She could not say she wasn't relieved, she still hadn't got over the feelings that talking to the blonde aroused in her. What the fuck had even been that? Her, the unfamous 'Queen of Slytherin' talking amenily with the coockoo of Ravenclaw? Her image would be in shambles, shattered like a mirror in a room full of brute Gryffindors. Still, she couldn't get the girl out of her mind, always infuriating her with her comment. How dare she? Talking to her like that.

She was walking along the castle corridors, enjoying her Saturday alone, and looking forward with her Hogsmead date on Sunday with Draco. They had been betrothed from a young age, some business dealing of their parents. She didn't care though. He wasn't the best guy, but he was the best she could have, good looking enough and the best for her image. Also, he was from a powerful family, so dating him lifted her standing within her house. She could be a bitch all she wanted.

So lost was she in her musings that she almost missed the moaned "Oh Draco! Yes!" Seemingly coming from an empty classroom up ahead. What the actual fuck!?

She furiously marched to the door, and forcefully pulled it open "What in the bloody hell is going on?" She yelled. She did not expect what she saw inside.

Draco was shirtless, still buckling his pants, and that bitch Greengrass was laying on the teacher's desk, fully on the nude. "What the fuck Draco!? What about the betrothal?"

"Fuck the betrothal" stated Malfoy smiling smugly "Now that He's back, I don't need to settle for money, my family is in good standing with Him" his smile turned to a grin, more nasty than before. "Daphne here is a better option, and she recognizes and appreciates a great wizard when she sees him" He didn't need to explain who He was. The ministry might not want to accept the Dark Lord was back, but his supporters rejoiced about his return, and while you didn't talk of it outside of Slytherin house, they all knew.

Draco started to close the door, already dismissing her without another thought.

"After all, she is better looking, I don't really go for the puggish look, darling. Besides, you are not that bright… you never noticed I've been shagging her for all last year"

And before closing the door all the way, he winked at her "One more thing: forget about the date tomorrow. I'm taking Daphne here".

Pansy was silent, in shock, unable to think or react. Before she knew, she was on a deserted floor of the castle, crying her eyes out on the floor. Why am I reacting this way? She thought bitterly. I always knew he was a bloody asshole. He'll, I laughed about it. 'Yeah, but he never was an asshole to you, dumbass' Answered her own subconscious. Shut up already. Why am I talking to myself? She was starting to tire of this 'Who else are you gonna talk to?' Right, she had no friends. She had lackeys, who followed her to stick to the status quo. But now the Status Quo has changed, and I'm alone.

It was already dark, closing in on curfew, and Pansy was still on the floor, wallowing in self-pity, when a familiar voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Good night to you, Pansy"

"What's good about it?" Bit out the angry witch.

"I don't know, I just wish you have a good night"

Pansy didn't bother to answer, she kept herself on the floor, her head between her knees. She felt more than heard the other girl sit down beside her, but chose not to acknowledge it. She had no more energy for people today.

She did not know nor could she dare to guess at what moment of the night had Luna put her arm around her, nor did she know when did she decide to lay her head on the girl's shoulder, but when she woke up, she was thus positioned. The shock of the close human contact made her jump abruptly, pushing the Ravenclaw to the floor. She noted she was once more poorly dressed for being outside in winter, including a missing pair of footwear. That, and the betrayed look on the other girl's face - if ever so momentarily - made her start to apologize "I'm so…." But then, reminded of who she was, cut herself off. "What do you think you are doing, you nutter?" She didn't see the look on Luna's face while she marched away, somewhat, maybe regretting her actions, and hating herself more for this. If she did, the profound loneliness showing across it would have stopped her in place, for it would have been the same she saw in the mirror every day.
