She hadn't even noticed it at first. Keeley had been so busy with her new PR company, from hiring interns to setting up client calls all over Richmond (and beyond), she had barely had the time to think, much less closely monitor how she was feeling. It was strange, Roy being in Marbella for so long had been a strain on their communication – and it had only been 3 weeks, they were barely halfway through their time apart and she already felt like she was failing as a girlfriend when she took hours to reply to his sweet messages and voicemails. But she didn't feel like their relationship was in jeopardy; from her perspective, they were just two very busy people in a functional long-distance period of a relationship, she did miss him – his constant presence before the trip had been something she had taken for granted.

But between thinking about missing Roy and running her own firm, she had completely missed the fact that her period was over 2 weeks late.

*flashback*

"I just wish menopause would kick in already," Rebecca had mused the night before as they sat and devoured a cheese plate while catching up on what they had missed in one another's lives since Keeley's departure from the team, " it's just absolutely frustrating that I still get so sick at 42 years old."

"Yeah," Keeley couldn't think of a response for her friend, mostly because she was coming to the realization that she couldn't even remember the last time she had felt the cramps that Rebecca was complaining about.

"I mean the fact that I have to take birth control to make them more tolerable when I'm not even having sex is also abysmal," Rebecca continued on, speaking frankly but in a comfortable way that she only felt she could reveal around Keeley and maybe Sassy, "are yours bad? What do you take?"

"Um," Keeley paused for a second, "mine haven't been bad for awhile, I just take the hormone pill."

If Keeley was being honest she was absolute shit at taking her pill on time, she had never been able to remember it on a whim, and when she'd upgraded her phone her alarms got all messed up and frankly she wasn't sure she'd taken it properly on time since.

Their conversation had moved on to other topics, but Keeley couldn't kick the thought that was sitting in her mind – was she pregnant?

*end of flashback*

Roy wouldn't be home for weeks, and she couldn't wait that long to figure out what was going on; if she really really thought about it she could remember her period coming two months prior, which meant if she was pregnant this would probably be Week 7 or 8. She could picture it in her head, keeping it a secret from Roy until he returned – if she was in fact pregnant, she would be well into and almost done with the first trimester by the time he came back, and although she knew very little about pregnancy in general she was decently sure she should probably go to the doctor before that point and if she ended up carrying anything like her mother had, it probably would be decently obvious to the naked eye that she had gained weight by then as compared to her tiny petite figure. Neither would be good to surprise Roy with.

She drove hurriedly to the closest pharmacy and picked up a half dozen tests, she noticed that some journalists/paparazzis were lurking around – probably due to the large political convention that was occurring across the street from her pharmacy, but she kept her head down and hoped nobody would report her purchase to a local tabloid

She ripped open the cardboard box of the first test – this one had been the most expensive, it promised to give an estimate at how far along the test taker was, one that would be useful as she tried to figure out what the follow up conversation would be with Roy. Keeley could tell she was on autopilot mode, as she hadn't even taken one second to assess how she felt about the situation – maybe it was because she was a new business owner but her brain went immediately to logistics, how she would work around being pregnant, not once did it occur to her to ponder whether this was something she wanted.

Keeley set a 15 minute timer and backed away from the bathroom and began pacing, for the first time letting her anxiety and heart sputter a bit at the thought of being a mom, at the thought of Roy being the father of her children. It wasn't a question that she wanted to have a family with him; she had always thought he would be an incredible dad, from the moment she saw how he interacted with Phoebe, but she had never thought about timeline, it had always been something she wanted in the future not in the immediate. How would he react? Would he be happy? Mad? Stressed? All of the above? She had absolutely no idea – he had flippantly mentioned "their" future kid before, but he hadn't ever expressed that he wanted kids soon or even if he really wanted them at all outside of the hypothetical.

*In Marbella*

Roy was nervous – his girlfriend hadn't texted or called him at all since the night prior when she had let him know she was headed to Rebecca's for a "girls night". His messages weren't even marked as read, so she hadn't opened them for the past 24 hours, which to him was a cause for panic. He tried to call her a few times, but her phone must have been on silent because they rang right to voicemail each time. He had been enjoying his time in Marbella, but without Keeley it wasn't the trip he had imagined – she had no idea about the ring sitting in his dresser door at their house that he had planned to bring on the trip, but the thought of her suddenly leaving or disappearing was not a good sign on what that answer may have been.

After 5 failed tries, he finally dialed Rebecca,

"Hello?" Rebecca answered quickly when he rang,

"Is Keels with you?" Roy asked, hoping his tone wasn't coming off as too desperate.

"No she came over last night, left around 10," Rebecca paused, "is everything okay?"

"She just isn't answering my texts or calls," Roy huffed, "so I'm getting worried, do you mind just driving by the house to see if her car is home? I just want to make sure she's okay."

"I was about to head into town anyways, I can drive by on my way," Rebecca replied,

"Thank you." Roy hung up hurriedly.

*Back at Keeley & Roy's*

The alarm dinged and Keeley took a shaky breath, whatever that test said was going to have major repercussions, ones she had no idea how to address at the moment, but putting it off wasn't going to make it go away, so she walked into the bathroom and picked up the stick.

She supposed the large smiley was meant for women who really had been yearning for babies, but as it looked back up at her next to the scrawl 6-8 weeks it made her want to throw up. Now she had to figure out what to do; all her hypothetical questions were now factual questions.

Rebecca drove quietly past the home about 10 minutes later, entirely unaware of the happenings of the evening. She saw that the lights in the master bedroom were on and Keeley's car was parked in the driveway, so she dialed Roy up,

"Roy she's home, all is" Rebecca started but Roy interrupted her,

"She's calling me, gotta go"

Rebecca chuckled, sometimes watching their relationship made her wish she had a steady significant other in her life, but in times like these she remembered the chaos that being in love often brought and felt a bit relieved for her quiet solitude.

Meanwhile, Keeley took a deep breath – she had no idea what she was going to say, she couldn't tell him this life changing news over the phone, there was no way she could wait for him to return to tell him either, so instead she dialed his number before she lost her courage,

"Keeley I've been so worried" Roy said hurriedly,

"I need you to come home." Keeley took a deep breath, "Now."

"Is something wrong? My flight isn't for another 3 weeks," Roy replied, noticing the tone of her voice and suddenly a knot growing in his stomach,

"Please just come home." Keeley tried to keep herself from crying on the phone, she knew she was probably worrying him sick, but she couldn't control the tone seeping into the call.

"Okay, I'll get on the next flight," Roy answered quickly, not even griping about the cost of changing his flight or the fact that his vacation was being cut short – all he knew was he needed to get back to her as soon as possible.

*The next morning*

Keeley finally fell asleep, she had been trying to make sense of how she was going to handle her job, her boyfriend, her friends and a baby all at once but it had been too overwhelming so she had surrendered to a bit of a restless sleep. She woke up however when she heard the garage door opening – Roy must have taken the red-eye home that night, which made her strangely emotional. She hadn't even picked up the evidence yet, but she just laid in bed, not going to greet him right away,

"Keels?" Roy walked into the room, he saw her curled into their bed in his tee shirt looking worse for wear, she didn't respond right away so he walked closer and pressed a kiss to her forehead, it wasn't warm so that ruled out her being sick. She didn't seem to react to the kiss, so he couldn't tell if she was fully awake or not as her eyes barely blinked open,

"Sorry I didn't sleep much," Keeley finally said as he sat next to her, "how was the flight?"

"Fucking miserable," Roy quipped, putting his hand on her back, "but worth it to get back to you."

Keeley managed a smile in response and curled a little tighter into his grip, he aimlessly rubbed circles on her back as they lay/sat in complete silence,

"Listen I have to take a piss, but when I am done, I am all yours – whatever you need I am here," Roy broke the quiet and slowly extracted himself from the bed. He made his way across the bedroom to the bathroom and flipped on the light, he did his business and then leaned over to wash his hands, and that's when he saw it.

There were four pregnancy tests (or what he assumed pregnancy tests looked like) sitting on the corner of the counter, jumbled in a way where he couldn't properly read the little screen that showed any sort of result – his throat stuck, this had to be what she had called him about. He reached over and picked up one of them, finding himself face to face with a large Smiley Face and the words 6-8 weeks.

He almost blacked out for a second as he held the test in his hand – no wonder she had ignored his calls yesterday, she had to be terrified of his reaction, he had never been outwardly vocal about wanting kids (of course he secretly wanted a ton of them, but she didn't know that) and he knew that the timing of this was probably not ideal for her business or her life in general. He slowly opened up the door to their bedroom, test still in hand,

"Keeley…" he started shakily, "is this why you called?"

She turned to face him, sitting up in their bed and pulling her knees to her chest, he could see the tears had started and she let out a soft hiccup in reply, he rushed to be next to her,

"Hey hey hey," Roy comforted, pushing hair out of her face and looking at her with pure love, "I know this is scary. I know we hadn't talked about it. I know we didn't plan it and I know you're already overwhelmed, but I love you so much and I will love our kids."

"There's just one baby Roy," was all Keeley managed to sputter before she took a breath and let out with a soft laugh, "so you want kids? With me?"

"I want like a million kids with you Keeley Jones," Roy gave her a cheeky smile, cupping her cheek in his hand, her tears had subsided a bit,

"I just was so busy I didn't even realize," Keeley faded out before regaining her train of thought, "and I didn't know what to do or who to call and so I really needed you to come home; I'm sorry you had to take such a late flight"

"I will get on any plane for you any time," Roy wasn't usually sweet, but when he was it made her heart melt, he tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and kissed her softly, pulling away when he realized he hadn't even asked how she felt about the pregnancy, "are you okay with this? Do you want to do this? You and I and a kid?"

She smiled at him, her lips pressed together, despite all of her anxieties around what this would mean for their relationship and her career, she hadn't doubted if she wanted to continue with the pregnancy, so she swallowed hard, "Yes I am very okay with it if you're okay with it."

"I am way more than okay with it," Roy said smoothly and Keeley rolled her eyes,

"Life is going to have to change, you realize that right?" she asked and he grinned at her, his hand maneuvering down to her still-flat midsection, his hand spreading out over her stomach which sent a shock of warmth through her – until this very second she hadn't even contemplated that there was a mess of cells in her uterus that would eventually turn into their baby,

"Did you hear that baby? Mom says life has to change when we have you."
