Author's note: Well this is similar to the story "Izzy's trouble" but in a different scenario. I have a lot of ideas about this topic so it is possible there will be more like this. Either way, I hope you enjoy.
End of Author's Note
It was pitch black. Darker than Izzy has ever seen. There was no pony in sight. There was not even a sound.
"H-hello?" she stuttered looking around for any sign of a pony.
"It didn't work." said a voice in an echoey whispery voice.
"Somepony there?" she asked, looking all around her.
"I should have known. Maybe every pony was right. We were wrong." Said the voice.
Izzy didn't like what the voice was saying. The voice sounded sad. They soundly like they needed help. Then while she continued to look around Izzy finally saw somepony in the distance. It was Sunny.
"Sunny!" Izzy said happily as she started to run towards her friend.
"I shouldn't have gone on this quest," said Sunny soundly like she was on the verge of tears.
"Sunny. It's ok. I am here. Everyone…" But before she could finish she was stunned silent by the sight of her friend. Her expression was gloomy and the shine in her eyes was gone. She looked lost. Broken. "Sunny?" she said extremely worried. She tried to get closer but for some reason, Sunny never got any nearer.
Sunny didn't say anything she just started walking away without looking back. "Sunny!? Where are you going?" Izzy asked in desperation while trying to chase her.
"To my kind," said Sunny in a monotone voice. She no longer sounded like herself.
"W-what?" Izzy was so shocked she stopped running. "Why? Aren't we friends? Can't I help?" Izzy asked desperately hoping there was something she could do to cheer up her friend.
"Friends?" Sunny said, finally looking at her. "Who needs a unicorn as a friend? Without magic what's the point." Sunny turned back around and walked into the darkness leaving Izzy in dismay.
"No." She said, shaking her head with tears swelling in her eyes. "That's not true. You don't need magic to be friends," she told herself.
Then all around her, she heard more voices.
"There really was no point in this journey." said a voice that sounded like Hitch.
"Should have figured. Earth ponies and unicorns really are nothing but trouble." said a voice that sounded like Pipp.
"I guess the pony kinds shouldn't be together." said a voice that sounded like Zipp.
"What are you guys talking about? Who cares if magic is gone. Friendships can still be made." Izzy yelled.
"You're wrong!" Said a loud voice. "This is meant to be. Uniting the three pony kinds was never going to happen." the voice continued. Izzy couldn't pinpoint this voice but she hated it. She dropped to the ground and shielded her ears to hopefully block out the voice.
"That can't be true. We are friends," she said, shedding many tears.
"I will never have friends. That is just how it will be I guess." said a voice that sounded like her. She looked up and saw a depressed version of herself. "I should have never tried. Without magic what use in a unicorn?"
"Please stop." Izzy whimpered.
"It was useless to do this meaningless journey." her other self continued.
"No," Izzy said desperately trying to speak more but her tears prevented her from talking normally.
"I guess there is nothing left for me." her other self said before walking off into the darkness.
"NO!" Izzy yelled at the top of her lungs.
Before she knew it she was in bed at the lighthouse with Sunny, Zipp, and Pipp surrounding her looking worried.
"Everyone," Izzy said with tears still dripping from her eyes.
"It's ok Izzy. We're here." Sunny said in a calming voice.
"You just had a nightmare," Zipp said.
Pipp then flew in and handed her a box of tissues. Izzy took a couple and blew hard into them. Tears were still flowing but seeing her friends calm her down a bit.
"Do you want to talk?" Sunny asked. Izzy was surprised but couldn't say anything. She knew her dream was wrong but it also made her think. Would Sunny really still be her friend if magic truly didn't return? Would any of them still be friends without magic?
"Izzy, sometimes talking things out helps your worries," Pipp said.
Izzy took a deep breath and said in a whisper. "Are we friends?"
"Of course," Sunny said with Zipp and Pipp nodding their heads in agreement.
"Even if magic never came back?" Izzy was scared to look up. She couldn't bring herself to look at them. She was terrified of hearing their answer.
Then what felt like hours in silence Sunny said, "of course."
Izzy looked up. "Really?"
"Definitely," Zipp said.
"Wouldn't have it any other way," Pipp said.
"But what about when the crystals initially failed. You left us Sunny." Izzy pointed out.
"That is true. I am sorry for that. I was just so shocked at the moment I wasn't thinking." She took a second to straighten her thoughts. "But I know that when you guys came to get me I am positive I would have wanted to remain friends. Magic or no magic you ponies are my best friends."
Izzy burst into tears again but this time it was happy tears. She was so scared that magic was the deciding factor in their friendship but hearing that it wasn't made her extremely happy.
"You ponies are the greatest friends I ever had," she said while trying to wipe away her tears.
The three of them smiled at their friend and they all leaned in for a group hug. Zipp did have to be dragged in by Pipp but she did not fight back. They continued to hug till Izzy finally calmed down.
"Better?" Sunny asked.
"Much. thank you." Izzy said. She then gave a yawn showing that she was exhausted and with all the emotions she went through no pony blamed her.
"Time to get back to bed," Zipp said walking back to her bed.
"Sweet dreams Izzy," Pipp said flying over to her bed.
Sunny felt she didn't have to say anything else but when she tried to walk away Izzy said, "Hey Sunny?"
"Yeah?" she said in confusion.
"Thanks for sending the letter and being my friend."
Sunny chuckled and with a sincere smile said,. "Thank you for responding and accepting my friendship."
Izzy giggled before drifting off to sleep. Sunny smiled and went back to her bed where she remembered their journey and how it all started with one simple letter. She smiled at the thought and gently fell back to sleep.
