Disclaimer: Fire Emblem isn't mine. I'm just using its characters and lore to make an interesting story, in my opinion.
Remire Village, 20th of the Great Tree Moon, 1180
(Dimitri POV)
Dimitri was not having a great day.
He and the other house leaders were being pursued by bandits, having separated from the others. The professor accompanying them had then fled in terror, only to be cut down by their attackers in the first place.
'Good riddance,' the ghosts that haunted him spoke. 'That coward had no right to teach you. Learning from them will not aid you in your goal, Dimitri. In avenging us,' he heard his father's voice say.
Shaking his head, the Crown Prince thrust his spear through one of the dastards, thankful for the one good thing that had happened during this encounter. Through their retreat, they had encountered Sir Jeralt Eisner, the Blade Breaker. The former Captain of the Knights of Seiros, as well as his daughter, had agreed to take out the bandits, if only to protect the residents of Remire Village. Dimitri then heard Sir Alois' voice, fretting over about the bandits fleeing. Feeling frustrated, he felt the need to chase after the thieves. The prince only halted when he saw an arrow fly past him, and onto the enemy leader's head, killing the man instantly.
Surprised, Dimitri looked at his surroundings, only to see a man walking up towards them. He looked like what you'd expect from a thief who knew his, profession, well. Light armor, dark cloak, and silent footsteps. Ashe, one of his classmates, had told him about the signs of a good thief as a warning.
The only thing that ruined the man's, professionalism, was the countless sweets on his person. Various kinds of lollipops, confections and even candy canes were seen strapped to the man's outfit. "Hey Grumpy Pants, just killed the head honcho of those group of morons, you can take'em down now," the thief said, looking nonplussed at Sir Jeralt. Indeed, it seemed that once their leader had perished, the group of bandits begin to move like headless ducks. Though, judging from the slight upturn of Miss Byleth's lips and the Blade Breaker's furrowed brows, this was not the first time he was called "Grumpy Pants."
"Gaius," the former Knight captain greeted. "Where's..." The now named Gaius looked past Sir Jeralt and whistled. "Well... nevermind then."
Curious, Dimitri looked at the direction where he had last seen their current enemies were. What he saw made his heart stop for a moment.
'It is a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness.'
'With all due respect, Your Highness, but your form is shite. Do please loosen up.'
'You don't want me to call you "Your Highness?" Okay then, little prince.'
'Honestly, little prince. You and the others get into too much trouble.'
'Never forget who and what you fight for, Dimitri.'
Dimitri would never forget that face, despite the new scars that covered it. After all, the prince had always thought that its ghost was with him.
"No need to thank me Jeralt," an all-too-familiar voice rang into the Blue Lions current House leader's ears. "I just did your job for you."
Glenn Atreus Fraldarius turned to the shell-shocked prince. "Hey there, little prince," the once-thought dead man smirked. "Apologies for my tardiness. Got lost in the road of life."
(Glenn POV)
"Y-You..." I heard Dimitri stutter out as Jeralt turned to Sir Alois. Then, I felt someone grasp my shoulder.
"Glenn," Byleth looked at me with curious eyes. Jeralt was right, it was easier to tell the woman's emotions once you get to know her better. "Do you know this person?"
"I do," I began, only to be interrupted by Dimitri grabbing my arm. He looked furious.
"You!" he growled, probably making Edelgard von Hresvelg and Claude von Riegan look our way. "You were alive this whole time?! How could you— Why would you not—" Brat. Couldn't wait long enough for me to explain. I interrupt his speech with a hug. The prince flinched, giving me time to continue.
"As I've said earlier, apologies for not arriving sooner, Dimitri," I softly say. "But prior to returning to Fodlan, I had lost most of my memories." I broke the hug, and ruffled his hair like I did Felix's.
Dimitri gasped. "While I have recovered most of them, I'm afraid I can't remember everything else."
"Sorry to interrupt your moment Shielbert, but mind introducing me?" I felt an eyebrow twitch at the nickname. Of all the times to hear that accursed name... "Not now, Gaius." I managed to grit out. The thief only smirked.
It was then that the Reigan heir decided to speak. "Sorry in advance but, who are you? Looks like you and His Highness are very close. His lover, I suppose?" Little shit.
"Claude!" Dimitri blushed. I snorted, I see he's still as easy to tease. "It's not like that! Glenn is one of my most trusted—"
The future Adrestian Emperor was next in interrupting the little prince, it seemed. "Your name... Ah, so that is where I know you from. Glenn Atreus Fraldarius, a knight in service to the previous king of Faerghus. They say you died in the Tragedy of Duscur."
I closed my eyes. "That's what they call it?" I of course, already knew this. After all, I had seen many narrations of that exact day.
I am what you would call a Self-Insert. A person inserted into a fictional world, through any means. I was reborn as Glenn Fraldarius, the older brother of Felix Hugo Fraldarius of the Fire Emblem franchise. Knowing of the Tragedy beforehand, I strived to stop it from ever happening. I... failed, however.
I truly thought that I would die once more that day. However, fate had other plans. Or rather, Naga did.
The Glenn Fraldarius of this side of the multiverse was pivotal in the end of the resident Fell Dragon's defeat. And so, without warning, I was plucked from Fodlan and dropped off at Ylisse. In critical condition.
Prince Chrom had been the one to find me, and, being the fool that he was, carried me to the Royal Healers, ordering them to help me. When I woke up, most of my memories as Glenn were lost to me, as well as all my knowledge of Fodlan.
All I knew was that I had a brother named Felix, my name, and my point of view of what everyone now calls "The Tragedy of Duscur."
Then, shit happened. I got married, had a child, had children from the ruined future appear, and defeated Grima.
And now we're here.
"Ah, I remember," I looked directly at her. "You're that girl Dimitri gave a dagger to. El, was it?" Both Edelgard and Dimitri blushed. Claude, seeing this, smiled. "Oh? So the future Emperor and the Crown Prince are the ones involved, and not you? Then perhaps you might be interested in me?" I could see the mischief in his eyes. I'm liking this one more and more.
Before Dimitri got really angry, I showed the "Secret" Almyran Prince my left hand. "Apologies, Sir Deer. As you can see, I'm already taken." This action only caused the prince's ire to be directed at me. "Glenn! You married?" At my nod, he began to freak out. "B-but what about..."
Ah, yes. Ingrid. Another whole new can of worms that I'm not sure I'm ready to open just yet.
"..As I have said earlier, Your Highness."
"Oh," Dimitri looked pained. "Then..."
"Papa!"
A small bundle of joy had appeared. Seeing my little Atalanta running towards me, I grinned. I caught my daughter in my arms and turned to my (former?) liege. "Little prince," I called Dimitri, whose mouth was agape. "Might I introduce you to my daughter, Atalanta Alexandra Fraldarius."
Heya, everyone! So yeah, I've been invested in Fire Emblem more than usual lately. This is the final of the 5 SI's that I'll focus on putting here in Fanfiction.
So... Glenn Fraldarius is the Insert? I bet no one expected that. He is the "Fire" in the Five Elements I mentioned. Heh.
So, the thing he got from me is definitely my passion. It isn't obvious now, but it will be!
Chapter 1 here is mostly exposition, as well as a glimpse of Dimitri's personality. The rest of the story would mostly be from Glenn's POV. Besides that, you guys can guess who Atalanta is, as well as the identity of Glenn's wife! Heh.
That's all for now. Kamui Raiu, out with a Yang!
