CHAPTER ELEVEN

Flash.

Enyos appeared in a classroom. He was facing the desk as he spoke idly. "You look well" he said

Janna appeared with a nervous nod of agreement. "Yes, I'm fine. I know I haven't written as much lately. I've been busy" Janna said as excuse

Enyos pursed his lips, "I cannot imagine what is so important to make you ignore the responsibility to your people."

Janna sighed, "Well, I've been working and..."

Enyos interrupts her sternly. "The elder woman has been reading signs. Something is different."

Janna sighed, "Nothing has changed. The curse still holds"

"The elder woman is never wrong. She says his pain is lessening. She can feel it." Enyos told her knowing the Elder woman's visions were never wrong.

Janna looked down in shame and but her lip nervously. "There is..." she stopped herself from speaking in uncertainty

Enyos frowned, "There is what?"

Janna looked up at him with conflict written on her face. "A girl"

Enyos exhaled in disgust and shook his head. "What? How could you let this happen?" He demanded

Janna sighed, "I promise you. Angel still suffers. And he makes amends for his evil. He even saved my life"

Enyos stared at Janna with hard eyes now. "So you just forget that he destroyed the most beloved daughter of your tribe?! That he killed every man, woman and child that touched her life?! Vengeance demands that his pain be eternal as ours is! If this, this girl gives him one minute of happiness, it is one minute too much!"

Janna flinched at his words. "I'm sorry. I thought.."

Enyos shook his head, "You thought what?! You thought you are Jenny Calendar now?! You are still Janna, Romani woman of the Kalderash clan! A Gypsy." He spat

Janna lowered her head in shame. "I know... Uncle. I know."

Enyos glared, "Then prove it. Your time for watching is past. The girl and him, it ends now! Do what you must to take her from him!"

Janna nodded, "I will see to it"

Flash.

Angel gazed at Buffy with adoration. " I love you. I try not to, but I can't stop." He admitted

Buffy softly nodded, "Me, me, too. I can't either"

The two start to kiss, only for Angel to pull away when it heated up. Angel sighed, "Buffy, maybe we shouldn't..." he said but his own warnings were half hearted.

Buffy shook her head at him and smiled. "Don't. Just kiss me"

Flash.

Vicious lightning strikes across the nights sky. The darkening of the clouds in the night was telling about what was to come from this moment. Angel woke with a start in bed, gasping for air that he didn't need. Angel could barely make a coherent sound as he panicked. He ran from the bed he had shared with Buffy and into the streets. Trying to find some relief to whatever was hurting him so badly.

But it felt right.

Deep down he knew this pain felt right, and that showed by the way he didn't seek help in a moment of need.

A veil in his mind and body had been lifted. His true self was showing through now. Angel crashed and stumbled into some trashcans on the pavement outside his building. He cried out in pain.

The name that left Angel's lips no longer held the same adoration it had a few hours ago. "Buffy!" He yelled as collapsed to the ground. It didn't take him long to realise what was happening to him.

A hooker standing in a doorway saw him and slowly walked over. "Hey. You okay? You want me to call 911?" The hooker asked helpfully

Angel stood suddenly and smiled. " No. The pain is gone" he spoke with a deadpan

The Hooker rose a disbelieving brow, "You sure?"

Angel nodded, "Yeah" He spun around, game face ready and grabbed her. He violently bites into neck to feed. Drops her dead body carelessly to the ground when he's done. Angel tilts his head up to the sky and smiled, " I feel just fine."

Flash.

Janna had a knowing look on her face as she faced Angel. He was acting weird and only she knew why. "He's not Angel anymore. Are you?" She challenged

Angelus smiled almost indulgently before shrugging. "Wrong. I am Angel" he declared while fighting his grip on Willow. "At last!"

Realisation dawned on Xander instantly. "Oh, my God"

Angelus smirked, "I got a message for Buffy"

Buffy appeared behind him hiding her pain under a thin mask of anger. "Why don't you give it to me yourself?" She demanded

Angelus spun around with Willow still in his grip to face Buffy. "Well, it's not really the kind of message you tell. It sort of involves finding the bodies of all your friends..." He said in mock helpfulness as once again tightens his grip on Willow. This time getting a pained Yelp from the redhead.

Buffy's eyes glistened, "This can't be you"

Angelus snorted, "Gee, we already covered that subject"

Buffy shook her head and took a step closer. "Angel, there must be some part of you inside that still remembers who you are" she pleaded

Angelus rolled his eyes, "Dream on, schoolgirl." But before he could say more, Xander took the cross from Janna and started toward Angelus. Angelus hissed and let Willow go for now. "Your boyfriend is dead. You're all gonna join him." He sneered towards Buffy before leaving.

Flash.

Her latest vision had left her feeling unsettled. Alexandreina knew Angel's reputation from before he decided to mess with her people. The soul was punishment for killing the Kalderash Elders daughter and next in line as powerful seer.

The spirits had chosen the punishment.

But for what?

To give him the chance to live a life with a conscious and humanity. To let him find joy in life again. To turn him into a ticking fucking time bomb!

Alexandreina was pissed.

Her vision had felt final. It had felt like a guarantee rather than something that needed to be changed or prevented. It worried her to see what Angel was capable of, especially since it put Janna in danger again. Alexandreina couldn't help but feel like this had been avoidable. If only Janna had done what the Elders had asked her to do...

It should have been simple.

Easy, even.

But Janna had been too focused on getting that 'real American experience'. Too busy falling in love and getting into trouble to bother with monitoring Angel. Alexandreina pursed her lips at the thought. She loves Janna, but she couldn't help but be disappointed in her cousin right now. Janna had never been able to accept their lifestyle, always searching for something more 'normal'.

Alexandreina sighed and shook her head to rid herself of the thoughts. Finding distraction from those thoughts in the shrill ringing of her phone.

She answered quickly.

"Hello?" Alexandreina muttered, not recognising the number.

"Dearest, Alexandreina" Enyos greeted as fondly as the man was capable of sounding. "I assume you know of my being in town by now?"

"From a vision" Alexandreina agreed, glad he was getting straight to the point. "Not from Janna..."

She wasn't sure how to feel about that.

Alexandreina had thought that Janna would tell her about something like this. She had thought her cousin would trust her with something so important. Yet Janna hadn't. She'd come to town and kept her secrets the entire time.

It hurt.

Even if she wished it didn't.

"Mhmm" Enyos hummed in disapproval. "Janna has lost her way. She has severed her connections to the spirits, to our people, maybe even to us..."

Alexandreina swallowed at the implications of the statement. Though she had nothing to refute it. "I guess" Alexandreina reluctantly agreed. "Janna's always been-" she struggled for the right word, but she didn't need one, Enyos knew what she was trying to say.

Everyone knew.

Janna had been young when when she began to turn her back on their ways.

"Yes. Yet the Elders gave her a chance to prove her loyalty. It is proven to not lay with us" Enyos spat out.

"Didn't they foresee this?" Alexandreina asked weakly. "Couldn't they know this would happen? Why would they risk it?" She failed to understand their reasoning for trusting Janna with clan business.

But Enyos ignored the question.

Like she knew he would.

It was not their place to question the visions of the Elders. Alexandreina knew that. However it didn't mean she never wondered.

"You know what it is, this thing, it's vengeance? To the modern man vengeance is a verb, an idea. Payback. One thing for another. Like commerce. Not with us. Vengeance is a living thing. It passes through generations. It commands. It kills" Enyos lectured knowingly

Alexandreina sighed.

She didn't want a lecture, but she knew better than to expect anything different from the man.

"They told Janna to watch Angel, but there are other factors. There are terrible things happening here that she cannot attempt to control" Alexandreina muttered in defence of her cousin.

She still loved Janna.

She would still defend her cousin.

Enyos didn't miss a beat in his reply. "We control nothing. We are not wizards. We merely play our part"

"I know, I know" Alexandreina relented before running a hand down her face in annoyance. "So what do we do now?" She asked

Enyos had to have a plan.

Right?

"The curse. Angel is meant to suffer, not to live as human. One moment of true happiness, of contentment, one moment where the soul that we restored no longer plagues his thoughts, and that soul is taken from him" Enyos explained

Her visions made a lot of sense now.

"It's already happened. Angelous is back" Alexandreina realised as everything began to make more sense. "It was in my vision. He slept with his girlfriend"

Enyos snorted cruelly.

Alexandreina's lips twitched but she held back any ill timed laughter.

"I hoped to stop it. But I realize now it was arranged to be so" Enyos muttered. "It is not justice we serve. It is vengeance. Do you serve beside me, Alexandreina?"

"I do" she agreed, determination in her voice as she answered him. Clearly her visions had intended her to be here, to help him do this. Otherwise they would have warned her against such a decision. Yet they didn't.

So Alexandreina was do what was needed of her without hesitation or guilt.

For her people.

For Janna.

"Come to my hotel now. We will prepare. Nightfall is approaching quickly, we don't have much time" Enyos stated

Alexandreina had a sinking feeling in her stomach, as if something had changed, but she couldn't place it. She could only hope that Enyos had answers.

And a plan.

Angelous would be dangerous and hard to kill. Even with the two of them working together. But Alexandreina had faith that they could find a way. Angelous was their problem, her clans problem, and it was up to them to end it. They had given Angelous a soul as punishment. It was not meant to allow him enjoyment.

They had given him continued life... and they would take it away just as quickly.

It had to be done

There simply was no other way with a person like this. Alexandreina knew that. Some people just don't deserve to live, and Angelous is one of them. So she would help Enyos kill Angel. If only so that Janna didn't have to be part of this.

Janna couldn't do it.

It just wasn't who Janna is.

Which is the reason Alexandreina rushed all the way to Enyos' hotel room. She ran up the stairs as she located his room number. However she froze when she found the door was busted in. Panic coursing through her veins as she pushed it open further. Like a shitty horror movie, the door squeaked as it swung open to reveal the bloody scene she feared most.

Enyos...

Oh god.

Alexandreina raised a shaky hand to her mouth as she entered the hotel room.

She walked slowly over to the bed. Bile rising in her throat as she neared him enough to check for a pulse. But she knew she wouldn't find one. There was no way anyone could survive such a brutal attack and she knew it. Yet she checked anyway, feeling nothing but clammy skin under her fingers.

Dead.

He's dead.

Alexandreina wasn't sure what to do. She stood there frozen as her mind raced. She could hear her heartbeat thumping in her chest, it was so loud. Her breathing had shortened to frantic panting but she never noticed. Alexandreina clutched Enyos's blood soaked jacket by the lapels and sunk to her knees. A sob wracked her body but she quickly sucked it back in. Instincts telling her that tears never helped a situation.

"Here!" Janna yelled

Alexandreina heard the voices distantly but she didn't move. She didn't even look up when she heard people enter the room. Her eyes watered as she clutched her uncles hand.

How could he be dead, she'd only spoken to him an hour ago.

Alexandreina couldn't think straight as she knelt there clutching a dead man. Nothing about her surroundings was registering to her as her mind raced with too many thoughts to focus. At least until Janna placed a shaky hand on her shoulder, that is. Alexandreina looked up at Janna who was staring in horror at Enyos's body.

"Oh, my God" Janna whispered

"Look" Buffy interrupted as she pointed at the wall nobody had noticed yet.

Alexandreina looked up and spotted the large lettering written in blood. She sucked in a breath as it confirmed who had done this.

WAS IT GOOD FOR YOU TOO?

Giles sighed, "He's doing this deliberately, Buffy"

Buffy nodded silently

The message in the wall seemed to send Alexandreina into motion. She shook Janna's hand off her shoulder, glaring at three of the people who had caused this to happen. Alexandreina stormed out of the motel room, stumbling as she did so. Her stomach was churning and she felt like she was going to be sick, but she didn't stop walking.

She needed to get out of there.

She needed to go.

So she took off in a run down the motel stairs and into the streets. Alexandreina didn't look back. She didn't even really look forward. She simply walked. And the longer she walked, the more clear her mind became. At first the blind rage that clouded her mind had been all consuming. Now she was left with a calm calculating hate.

She hated Angel.

Angel... Angelous... it didn't matter which name he went by. The man was fucking insane and needed to die. She should have known this was going to happen. She should have seen it, but she hadn't, and now Enyos is dead.

One more person to add to the list of mourning.

Well fuck mourning!

Alexandreina didn't want to be sad anymore. She had mourned more than someone her age should. As selfish as that sounded, she didn't want to grieve another person.

Not again.

Not this time.

No. What she was going to do is finish what Enyos couldn't. He had come here for her help to kill Angelous once and for all. Her people had thought giving him a soul would make him suffer, and they had been right. However they failed to realise a soul gave him room for pure feelings of love, redemption and goodness. Her people had given him a second chance in life. A chance that had come back to bite them in the ass. Well, her people had once given him a chance at life, and now they were officially revoking it.

Angelous needed to die.

A fact she felt deep in her bones was true.

Taking a deep breath she didn't question why or how her intuition led her to a nearby park. Alexandreina didn't even really care how she did it. As long as she found Angel and got to kill him, Alexandreina didn't care about anything else. Which was why she approached the park as silently as possible. Calmly smearing blood on her arms in runes to give her the strength she needed. She spotted Angel and Drusilla at the park feeding on some chick. But Alexandreina paid that no mind, the girl was already dead.

Another person dead at his hands tonight...

Alexandreina didn't wait for him to notice her before she sent a powerful kick to his back. She watched in satisfaction as he went flying face first into the ground. Drusilla tutted but thankfully stayed out of the way.

Angelous growled and got his feet. Turning quickly to face his attacker, though surprise was evident on his face when he realised it was her. "Alexandreina... this must be about that poor Gypsy man" he mocked

Alexandreina didn't react.

Her mind had shut down all unnecessary functions apparently.

She was sure looking back in this that she would be terrified at the chilling rage she currently felt. The clear intent to commit murder in the name of revenge. It was a feeling she had only ever truly felt once before. A past memory she avoided revisiting at all costs. But this feeling right now was as close as she had gotten to that since. And right now, Alexandreina reveller in it. Because she knew to kill a monster that you had to let yourself become one.

Angelous faltered, tilting his head as if he wasn't sure how to interpret her lack of reaction.

Alexandreina would show him how to interpret it though... By sending an enhanced kick to his face that he was too slow to catch. She followed it up with a punch as he stumbled back, but he caught that in time. Not that she cared. Alexandreina just kept going relentlessly. They traded blows as Angelous finally realised her strength and viciousness could match his own. Alexandreina punched him in the gut but didn't move in time to avoid him head butting her face.

Blood dripped from her nose.

But it wasn't broken, that she could tell even through her murderous haze.

Angelous charged her and grabbed her arms. He swung her around in an attempt to throw her to the ground, but her footing was good and she regained her balance. In his surprise at the failed move, Alexandreina kicked backwards and heard a crunch of his nose when her boot connected. Alexandreina faced him again and she didn't give him a chance to recover from the broken nose. Instead she chanted under her breath until a flame began burning up his hand.

"Shit! FUCK!" Angelous roared. He danced around as he tried to out out the growing flame.

Alexandreina felt an instinctual need to pull back. An urge to back off from killing him. She wasn't sure what the fuck that was about, but she complied without thought. However, seeing him relax as the flames went out sent her into a rage again.

Alexandreina was out for blood.

She wanted to see him in pain. To hear the sounds of his bones break and to hear him groan in pain.

That was not what she was seeing right now though...

Alexandreina backhanded him with more strength than even she expected. She didn't question it though. Angelous charged at her and knocked her into her back. He pinned her to the ground and was going for her neck, when she brought her knee up to his groin. Angelous wheezed and she took the chance to push him off. Alexandreina changed their positions, using his pain to land punch after punch after punch.

And it felt good.

Finally she felt relief from the ache in her chest that formed when she found Enyos. The adrenaline drowned out the noise of it all. She didn't hear any of the sounds Angelous was making as he failed to overpower her. She didn't hear Drusilla singing in the background. She didn't feel the tears running down down her face or the way the skin on her knuckles split.

Alexandreina didn't notice any of it.

Until she did.

The first thing she felt were her hands aching as she continued to punch Angelous. Every part of his body that she could reach, she did. Then she became aware of the fact they were both covered in blood. Though she wouldn't have been able to say who's blood is was at this point.

"Sissy!" Drusilla yelled

Alexandreina ignored it Drusilla in favour of punching a tooth out of Angelous' mouth.

That felt good.

Drusilla's dainty hand wrapped around her arm before she could land another blow. Drusilla smiled, "Mrs. Edith says it's not Daddy's time to dust"

That gave Alexandreina pause.

The oddity of the sentence making her stop to think.

Alexandreina grit her teeth when she found the words rang true in her own mind and intuition. By killing Angelous she would be screwing up the future. Admittedly it took her a second to decide whether or not she cared about that... but in the end she knew she did.

She hated that she did.

But she allowed Drusilla to help her to her feet anyway. In what she was sure was a rare moment of kindness, Drusilla wrapped her arms around Alexandreina. For once Alexandreina didn't bothering fighting the comfort. Instead she held Drusilla tightly as she finally noticed the few tears that had fallen. Drusilla placed a light kiss onto her forehead and smiled down at her kindly.

"Fuck, Dru! Your giving her a fucking hug?" Angelous spat in hate

Drusilla snapped her teeth at him with a playful growl. "Sissy is angry with my Daddy. It makes the stars shine too brightly" Drusilla sang in dismay

Alexandreina sighed.

She glanced down at Angelous who was pulling himself to sit up again. Not giving him a chance to fight back, she kicked him in the face hard enough to knock him out. Despite knowing the spirits wanted her to back off, It was worth it. And it wasn't like he was dead yet.

Drusilla giggled, "Naughty Daddy" she cooed and crouched to pick Angelous up.

Alexandreina watched the female vampire carry Angelous back to the warehouse. Or wherever the fuck they were staying now. She sniffled and wiped her nose with her hand. Alexandreina was disappointed to say she didn't feel too much better now, than she had before.
