On Today's Episode: The spies make their way through Myrna's lair in hopes of finding the demon nanny and scuttling whatever her diabolical scheme is. But along the way, they find blueprints for W.O.O.H.P. gadgets, but modified for seemingly sinister purposes. Can the spies unravel Myrna's plans before she can escape to the outside with the stolen gadgets?
Act 3: Castle Calamity
9:38 P.M. – Myrna's Secret Lair
"Man, this place and its intended fashion clashes so hard it's not even funny!" Clover chastised.
"Makes sense that Myrna wouldn't know a thing about actual fashion, especially when it comes to villain lairs," Bridget commented.
"I would second that," Britney added.
"And it's never short of giving you the creeps, either," May added.
"I'm starting to wonder what all of these things are," Alex chastised.
She had picked up some papers with some drawings on them.
Sam and Haruka looked them over.
"They look like... blueprints for W.O.O.H.P. gadgets?" Haruka guessed.
"They're definitely not new ones, that's for sure," Sam added, recognizing some layouts.
"Yeah, but these all seem to have some slight modifications to them," Sortiliena noted. "You think that's her game plan this time?"
"Always expect the unexpected with our rogues' gallery, I guess," Nick quipped. "I'm sure we'll find out for sure once we find Myrna."
"If it is, we've got to somehow block her from even getting a step ahead of us," Bridget proclaimed.
"Hopefully Jerry and RiCO could give us a heads-up on this," Nozomi suggested.
"Safe to say this is all new to us," Nick commented.
"No doubt it is," Melissa replied.
"Jerry, RiCO, do these blueprints look familiar to you?" Sam wondered as she scanned the blueprints with her Scanner Watch.
"Yeah, they look like modified versions of our own gadgets," RiCO proclaimed. "What the heck is Myrna planning to do with them?"
"Knowing her, it can't be anything good," Melissa quipped. "I think we'd better find her before this gets to be too troublesome."
Suddenly, Nick tensed up, and this meant that there was most likely trouble nearby.
"What did you pick up, Nick?" May asked.
"I can sense Myrna nearby, but she's not moving closer to our location," Nick responded. "I think she's waiting for us."
"Then let's not keep her waiting any longer, eh?" Bridget quipped.
The group headed deeper into the 'castle' until they found themselves inside a large, circular lobby.
"All right, Myrna, get your bony keester out here so we can stomp it like we always do!" Nozomi exclaimed.
A few seconds of silence passed, and then...
"Well, if you insist," Myrna responded as she came out of the shadows on the top level of the room.
("Life Will Change" by Lyn Inaizumi plays)
To the spies' surprise, though, Myrna was wearing what appeared to be Cat Fight Gloves on her hands and a pair of Groovy Gravity Boots on her feet.
"Okay, what's with you using stolen gadgets again?" Clover proclaimed. "You really think you're going to beat us with our own weapons?!"
"Oh, you haven't seen the new features I added to them, spies," Myrna laughed. "Observe!"
Myrna jumped off of the balcony, then activated the Groovy Gravity Boots so that she started floating there in the air. Then, she swung the Cat Fight Gloves, and the retractable claws unleashed a barrage of laser blades from the tips, forcing the spies to scatter.
"I take it you like my new modifications?" Myrna taunted. "And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Let's dance!"
"Okay, then, if you wanna dance, let's freakin' dance!" Nick shouted as he took off into the air to clash with Myrna.
Myrna continued to swing her Cat Fight Gloves, sending laser blades towards Nick, but he blocked each strike with a psychic barrier before sending Myrna flying back with a Final Shine Attack. This gave Sam an opportunity to use her Expandable Cable Bungee Belt to lasso Myrna and yank her down to the ground.
However, Myrna swung the Cat Fight Gloves again to sever the bungee cable so she could fly around the arena again.
"I move pretty fast for my size, don't I?" Myrna taunted.
"Maybe stop wearing those gaudy boots, then?" May exclaimed as she threw her anchor like a javelin towards Myrna's Groovy Gravity Boots, striking them dead-on and wrecking them. "Your versions aren't half as stylish as ours!"
"They were only but one of the many ideas I have in store for you," Myrna laughed as she raised her right hand. Now, the spies could see a slightly twisted version of the Emergency Gadget Transporter on Myrna's wrist.
Naturally, Myrna activated it to equip a pair of Rocket Powered Inline Boots and start dashing super-speedily around the arena.
"Oh, please," Bridget taunted as she opened up her X-Powder. "You want to see speed, then I'll show you speed! Sonic Mode, online!"
Once Bridget had transformed, she dashed forward to meet Myrna in combat, and they clashed again and again, giving the rest of the spies time to think of a game plan.
"We've gotta get those gadgets away from her," Clover stated.
"Problem is, if she still has her own EGT, she can just keep summoning them," Haruka answered. "I think priority one is getting that thing off of her so she can't summon any more weapons."
"COMING THROUGH!" Myrna exclaimed as she dashed through the spies, bowling most of them over in the process.
"You first!" Bridget shouted, running up the walls of the arena before leaping off to kick Myrna, then bouncing off of her to land on the walls and then leap off again to hit Myrna. This pattern continued for a bit with Bridget leaving green streaks of light everywhere she moved until she leapfrogged off of Myrna's shoulders to land on the ceiling, then propelled herself back downward to kick Myrna right back to the ground, though Myrna was able to use an Anti-Gravity Propulsion Ring to stop her fall just in time.
"Keep trying, track girl," Myrna laughed as she tossed a bunch of Butterfly Barrette Bombs (redesigned to looks like moths instead) towards the spies, keeping them separated due to the explosions.
Eventually, Myrna set her sights on Irida, flying forward to attack her, only for Irida to clap her hands together and project a barrier of silver light that Myrna crashed into unceremoniously, giving Nick enough time to psychically yank the Rocket Powered Inline Boots off of Myrna's feet.
Myrna quickly picked herself back up, only for May to jump in and leg sweep her right back off of her feet, rip Myrna's EGT off of her wrist, and then smash it to pieces with an overhead swing from her anchor.
"There, now try calling your ripoffs," May taunted.
"It's over, Myrna," Sam proclaimed. "Just give yourself up and maybe we'll let you off with just a few face punches for what you and your toadie did to my honey-bunches."
"Oh, but Samantha, you should remember that a good villain always saves their trump card for the clutch," Myrna cackled, pressing a button on a remote in her pocket.
Suddenly, a hidden hatch on the ceiling of the arena opened up, and a very sci-fi-looking machine descended from the hole into the arena.
And with its round, UFO-like body, multiple robotic arms holding different gadgets, and its mechanical eye staring as threateningly as it could towards the spies, they were all definitely shocked to see something they honestly thought they'd never see again.
"...G.L.A.D.I.S.?!" Alex gasped.
"HELLO, SPIES," G.L.A.D.I.S. proclaimed in as threatening a tone as her robotic voice would allow. "DID YOU MISS ME?"
"Not in a million years, you junk heap!" Clover shot back.
"TOO BAD," G.L.A.D.I.S. retorted. "BECAUSE NOW I'M GOING TO SEND ALL OF YOU TO THE JUNK HEAP."
"You got that backwards, G.L.A.D.I.S.!" Sam proclaimed. "You have a lot of black marks for what you did to Jerry, and what you did to us!"
Sam remembered Jerry having G.L.A.D.I.S. "watch" all three of them after their space mission and G.L.A.D.I.S. "imprisoned" them in their beach house.
"Yes, that was EXTREMELY TERRIBLE on Jerry's behalf," Melissa commented. "But YOU have to share some of the blame, too!"
"Why didn't we decline that mission when we could've?" Clover quietly asked Sam and Alex.
"Maybe we wanted to hope it wouldn't get that bad?" Alex wondered.
"Bad decision there, eh?" Sam quipped.
"MYRNA BEESBOTTOM WAS RIGHT – YOU SPIES ARE UNRULY AND DEFIANT – AND JERRY SHOULD HAVE FIRED YOU!" G.L.A.D.I.S. proclaimed.
Myrna Beesbottom was just sneering on the sidelines.
"You see... you defiant, snobby little pricks?!" Myrna sneered.
"Hey, newsflash!" May proclaimed. "Rules for villains, number seventy-three!"
"Totally!" Bridget added. "And that's gonna be your downfall, without a doubt!"
"Oh, I think not," Myrna sneered again. "With G.L.A.D.I.S. under my control, you'll have criminal records like everyone in W.O.O.H.P., too!"
"EXACTLY!" G.L.A.D.I.S. added in agreement. "YOUR ENGAGEMENTS MUST BE OVERTURNED IN TWO DAYS OR FACE MORE CONSEQUENCES!"
"You're saying we have to go through YOU to get engaged?!" Alex chastised.
"JERRY WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED IT... I KNOW HIM WELL," G.L.A.D.I.S. remarked.
"You don't know a reasonable action from a justified action!" Nick shot back.
"And we don't need YOUR OK or Jerry's OK for that matter to get engaged either!" Sam added. "It's not your business, anyway!"
"ON THE CONTRARY, SAM," G.L.A.D.I.S. countered. "ALL OF YOUR ACTIONS ARE MY BUSINESS!"
"I wonder what Jerry would have said, assuming he knows Sam and Alex are engaged..." Bridget commented.
Blaine and Britney looked surprised at how the three main spies had to deal with G.L.A.D.I.S.'s strict side.
"We totally sympathize dealing with someone like THAT!" Britney quipped.
"IT'S NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH JERRY WOULD FORBID MARRIAGE AFTER ALL!" G.L.A.D.I.S. remarked.
"CAN IT, YA HUNK O' JUNK!" May proclaimed and hurled her anchor at G.L.A.D.I.S.
However, G.L.A.D.I.S. knew May was going to try that and used one of its arms to swat it away like a pesky mosquito.
"OH NO!" May groaned.
"DEFIANCE ALERT! DEFIANCE ALERT!" G.L.A.D.I.S. repeated over and over again.
"Ugh, I don't EVER want to hear anybody say 'defiant' to us after this mission!" Clover complained.
"I gave you meddlers a chance," Myrna taunted. "You should've took it when you had the chance..."
Many more of G.L.A.D.I.S.'s arms came out to trap all the spies in an attempt to squeeze the life out of them.
"I SHOULD HAVE FIGURED YOU WOULD STILL BE DEFIANT EVEN AFTER I WAS INITIALLY SCRAPPED," G.L.A.D.I.S. proclaimed. "I GUESS THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO PUT AN END TO THAT DEFIANCE."
"Well, this is a pickle," Nick quipped.
"YOU ARE STILL SMILING," G.L.A.D.I.S. replied. "DO YOU WISH TO EXPLAIN THAT TO ME?!"
"Simple," Nick laughed. "It feels like your memory chip may be slightly scrambled, because you clearly forgot something about me."
"OH? YOU CLEARLY ARE IN NO PLACE TO BE MOUTHING OFF TO ME," G.L.A.D.I.S. chuckled. "I AM CALLING YOUR BLUFF RIGHT NOW, BOY."
Nick's body began to glow brightly. "Then prepare to lose."
A burst of psychic power exploded outwards from Nick's body, severing the arms that were holding him and allowing him to fly around and slash through the arms holding the other spies.
"Whew, I did not want to turn into an ice cream tube," Alex sighed. "Thanks for the save, Nick."
"Any time, sweetheart," Nick replied.
"STOP THAT RIGHT NOW," G.L.A.D.I.S. proclaimed, only for Nick to blast her chassis with a Final Shine Attack.
"Hey, she's my fiancée, we're allowed to be affectionate and lovey-dovey," Nick shot back. "Now I think it's time you took your lumps."
Naturally, G.L.A.D.I.S. unfolded more mechanical arms to fight Nick off, but he simply raised a psychic barrier to block each arm as it tried to swipe him out of the sky.
"ALSO, YOU HAVE A FIANCEE, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TWO OTHER GIRLFRIENDS?" G.L.A.D.I.S. quipped. "DO YOU WISH TO EXPLAIN THAT TO ME?"
"Simple, you junk bowl!" May shouted as she hurled her anchor into G.L.A.D.I.S. while it was busy with Nick. "Because Nozomi and I love him! That's something your peanut brain chip would never understand!"
"Yeah, we didn't force anything on him!" Nozomi exclaimed as she fired a Cyclone Blast Hairdryer at G.L.A.D.I.S.. "So you can go stuff your opinions on our relationship!"
"Same here!" Britney proclaimed as she leaped to the side and tossed a pair of Incendiary Earrings at G.L.A.D.I.S., which exploded on contact. "Despite Sam and Mat getting engaged, Mat still let me into his heart, and that's all I could ask for!"
"Took the words right out of my mouth, Brit!" Melissa exclaimed as G.L.A.D.I.S. aimed two mechanical hands for her, then activated her Helicopter Hand Fan to block the arms.
"EMPTY THREATS, BUT NOTHING MORE," G.L.A.D.I.S. responded.
"I see Myrna definitely got your superiority complex down," Nick quipped.
"BECAUSE I AM SUPERIOR TO YOU BRATS!" G.L.A.D.I.S. shouted as it opened a port on the top of its chassis to reveal a small laser device that started firing bolts of electricity towards the spies. "JERRY MADE A MAJOR MISTAKE BY SCRAPPING ME, AND HE KNOWS IT!"
"All right, now you're starting to piss me off," Sam growled as she flung a Platinum Credit Card through the air to slice off more of G.L.A.D.I.S.'s robot arms, only for it to unfurl more.
"Okay, how the frick many arms do you need?!" Haruka shouted.
"ENOUGH," G.L.A.D.I.S. replied before firing more lightning bolts from its laser port.
"Okay, enough of this," Bridget proclaimed as she transformed back into Sonic Mode. "Sortiliena, can you distract G.L.A.D.I.S.?"
"All over that!" Sortiliena responded as she moved in closer to attack G.L.A.D.I.S. while Bridget started running around the arena.
"I DO NOT RECOGNIZE YOU," G.L.A.D.I.S. stated. "YOU MUST BE NEW."
"Sortiliena Serlut, W.O.O.H.P. Combat Instructor, at your service!" Sortiliena exclaimed as she slid under two arms trying to grab her, then cut into G.L.A.D.I.S.'s chassis with a Laser Nail File, and finally jump-kicking another robot arm away from her.
Bridget continued to pick up the speed until the others could only see a green streak of light running around the outer edges of the arena.
G.L.A.D.I.S. extended a robot arm to snatch Sortiliena by her wrist, only for Irida to jump in and slash through the arm with her glowing hands.
"Thanks for the save, Irida," Sortiliena quipped.
"No problem," Irida replied.
Eventually, Bridget started running up and along the walls like she'd done against Myrna. While G.L.A.D.I.S. was distracted with Sortiliena and Irida, Bridget equipped a Metal Masher Boxing Glove on her right hand and continued to run along the walls for a couple more seconds until she found the perfect vantage point.
Now realizing what Bridget was about to do, Sortiliena used her Laser Nail File to blast two of G.L.A.D.I.S.'s arms off and give Bridget a clear opening to attack.
"Hey, G.L.A.D.I.S., you ever hear of the Falcon Punch?!" Bridget shouted as she used her built-up momentum to leap off of the wall, straight for G.L.A.D.I.S., who couldn't react in time. "Didn't think so."
With that said, Bridget punched forward with her Metal Masher Boxing Glove, the built-up momentum from her constant running giving the punch enough force to completely snap G.L.A.D.I.S.'s chassis off from the ceiling perch and send it careening into the opposite wall, smashing it into pieces almost instantly.
For good measure, May moved in and smashed as many pieces as she could with her anchor to make sure G.L.A.D.I.S. couldn't pull itself back together. Thankfully, G.L.A.D.I.S.'s 'eye' flickered a few times before burning out.
Myrna could only stand there in shock as G.L.A.D.I.S. was destroyed, which naturally gave Nick all the time in the world to raise his hand and encase Myrna in a psychic bubble.
"Game over, Myrna," Nick taunted. "Rules for villains, number eighty-seven: don't bring back past failures and expect them to succeed this time around."
"And that, my friends, is what we call 'owned'," Nozomi laughed as she and Sam moved over to a nearby doorway to retrieve the rest of Myrna's stolen gadgets.
"Too true there," Melissa chuckled.
11:08 P.M. – W.O.O.H.P. Headquarters
Jerry's Office
"Marvelous performance as always, spies," Jerry proclaimed once the spies had returned with the captured Myrna and the stolen gadgets.
"I just hope we don't have to deal with James again for a long time," Sam sighed.
"Or G.L.A.D.I.S., for that matter," Alex quipped, which caught Jerry's attention.
"Wait, G.L.A.D.I.S. was there?" Jerry wondered.
"Apparently, Myrna reconstructed G.L.A.D.I.S. as her trump card against us," May replied. "But naturally, we sent her right back to the junk heap."
"I guess I'm glad I joined this branch of W.O.O.H.P. after G.L.A.D.I.S. went bye-bye before," Sortiliena quipped. "Because your agents told me about everything G.L.A.D.I.S. had done to them, and... well, just oof."
"Yes, I do sincerely regret creating her like that," Jerry replied. He knew that the only real good thing that G.L.A.D.I.S. had done was attempt to protect Jerry from a rampaging Psykos, even if it hadn't ended well for it.
"But hey, you've definitely learned from that mistake if RiCO is anything to go by," Clover stated.
"Aw, you guys," RiCO giggled.
"Excuse me, Jerry?" Sam asked. "How is Mat doing?"
Jerry hummed and gave a "Well..." before a side door immediately opened. Mat was there relaxing in W.O.O.H.P.'s heart-shaped hot tub looking at the spies.
"That's lucky," Nick commented, thinking back to when Mat was hurt the first time by Tim Scam.
"I'm coming along well," Mat answered as his eyes centered on Sam. "Nothing hurts internally, and I should be back to peak strength soon... right, Jer?"
"Your medical reports back you up," Jerry answered. "But we are considering keeping him on the sidelines for the next mission as a precaution, depending on Mat's condition, of course."
"Yeah, considering our next baddie may not be as 'nice', in massive quotation marks," May quipped.
"But we'll do our best to keep our buddy safe from harm!" Alex proclaimed.
Alex and Clover looked on, knowing full well what happened the last time when Dean was in there.
To say that Sam was overjoyed was an understatement. Much to her surprise, she'd just seen Melissa and Britney were already on the stick and making beelines for the hot tub Mat occupied. She gasped and ran after them.
"You snooze, you lose, Sammy," Melissa laughed.
"Yup, what she said," Britney giggled.
"Hey, that's MY fiancée there!" Sam playfully argued.
"That's amusing," Bridget chuckled on the sidelines.
"Can't say I blame those three," Blaine added.
"Not a chance," Dawn laughed.
The three girls all jumped into the hot tub at the same time, to which Mat couldn't help but chuckle.
11:30 A.M. – Malibu University
Campus Aquatic Complex
The Next Day
After a quick night's sleep and a light breakfast, the rest of the spies were off to the aquatic complex at Mali-U for the water polo tryouts. Mat and Sam weren't with them and told the others they'd catch up later. Bridget, Haruka, and May were already there getting ready for their tryouts.
"I'm a little surprised that Bridget, Haruka, and May went for the water polo team," Clover commented.
"Same," Alex added.
"Well, to each his own, I suppose," Blaine quipped.
"Then again, Mat IS into his Motocross series," Nozomi pointed out.
"Yep, to each his own," Nick quipped.
That was when Mat and Sam came to the Aquatic Complex hand-in-hand with grins on their faces.
"Oh, there you are," Britney stated, noticing.
"Hope we didn't miss much," Mat quipped as he and Sam took a seat.
"Where'd you two go?" Melissa wondered.
"Chase on the beach," Sam giggled.
"What else would you think of after dealing with Sam's screwed-up ex?" Mat laughed.
"Yeah, I figured you two would need a good ol' refresher after having to deal with him," Dawn quipped.
"Hopefully he stays locked up this time," Nozomi proclaimed.
"Oh, looks like they're having a relay now," Clover stated.
Bridget, Haruka, and May were at one end of the pool to show what they had.
"I'm pretty sure I know what Haruka's thinking right now," Melissa giggled.
"But she should also know that I'm on to her wiles by now," Nick quipped. "But I gotta say, Bridget and May look pretty nice in those swimsuits."
"Nick, this is you we're talking about," Nozomi chuckled. "You think they'd look nice in anything."
"...okay, point," Nick admitted, to which Alex just laughed.
That was when there was a scrimmage between some of the students. May and Bridget were on one team, but Haruka was on the other team.
"What do you think, Bridget?" May asked. "Ya think we're gonna kick some butts?"
"Hey, you're the one with all the upper body strength thanks to wielding that anchor all the time," Bridget teased. "So, you tell me."
"Oh, we'll see about that!" Haruka shouted from the other side of the pool.
"Ready, and... go!" the referee shouted.
The match quickly descended into chaos where Bridget and May were involved, as, like they'd noted, May's impressive upper body strength gave her quite the advantage when it came to scoring goals with great throws, and Bridget's dexterity thanks to track and field allowed her to weave through everyone to intercept the opposing team's throws when she could.
Naturally, Haruka wasn't going to let them win that easily, as her own W.O.O.H.P.-honed reflexes allowed her to play excellent defense and keep her own team in the game.
Once the match was finally over, Bridget and May's team had just barely edged out their opponents by a score of 4-3.
"Well, that was a lot of fun," May giggled once the match was over. "You think we're gonna make the team?"
"After all of those moves you pulled, I wouldn't be surprised," Bridget replied.
"Looks like it might be a couple more days before we get the official results of the tryouts," Haruka answered. "There's a few more sessions over the rest of the week."
"I've got high hopes already," May responded.
"Well, Nick? Were you so distracted by my beauty that you had no words left?" Haruka giggled as she took a step forward, only to slip on a still-wet part of the floor and tumble backwards right into the pool.
Of course, the spies all had a good laugh at that.
Even Haruka did once she'd resurfaced. "Okay, maybe I deserved that."

Final Author's Notes from Mat49324: Well, with that, we bring an end to Elements of Happiness. It's safe to say that quite a few of the spies went through quite a few emotions. For now, we hope you enjoyed Elements of Happiness, and that you stay tuned for my newest one-shot that The Blue Time Ranger and I worked on together, which will be posted after this. It's titled Day of the Dunk, and our next mission project is going to be on The Blue Time Ranger's page, which is titled Spaced Out. For now, here is The Blue Time Ranger for his final thoughts.
Final Author's Notes from The Blue Time Ranger: And that's a wrap! What a nuts one this turned out to be, huh? Given James and his... James-ness, we figured it'd be an interesting obstacle to conquer now that Sam and Mat are engaged. And in case you were wondering what was up with that tiny earthquake early on... we'll get there soon enough. Let's just say I've got plans for the season finale and leave it at that.
Okay, so now that we're finished with this one, let's talk about what's coming up next on The New Adventures. It's another Jellyfish Pirates quest, and this one involves a certain crazy cosmonaut forcing a Tachikawa landmark under unwanted renovations for something. Find out what next time on Spaced Out, which will be posted by me. So, until next time, have a fantastic day, don't listen to the screeching morons, enjoy this preview of Spaced Out, and we'll see you next mission!

"IT'S A GORGEOUS DAY!" April shouted as the Jellyfish Pirates made their way through the city, finally free of classes (at least for today).
"Not so loud, April," Mira quipped. "We understand that you're happy to be out of school after that hot mess, but do you really have to broadcast it to everyone in a ten-block radius?"
"Hey, April does have the best voice of all of us, don't lie," Souji chuckled.
"You said that about me, too, Souji," Yuki retorted.
"He said you have the best singing voice of the Jellyfish Pirates, Yuki," Akira replied. "There's a clear difference."
"I'm so jealous that you can sing so well, Yuki," Dizzy admitted. "People say that I have a beautiful voice, but I can't sing for beans..."
"Just gotta practice and practice," Fena giggled. "I can imagine how long it took Yuki to get so good at arts and crafts."
Fena emphasized her statement by touching the dolphin-shaped earring on her right ear, a creation of Yuki herself.
Before Mira could reply to that, she noticed that a crowd was gathering on their usual route.
"Huh," Mira quipped. "What's the big occasion?"
"I'll scout ahead," Akira replied as he jogged towards the crowd to see what exactly was going on.
After a couple seconds and a shocked gasp from Akira, he raced back to the group to relay his findings.
That caused the rest of the Jellyfish Pirates to make their way towards the crowd, which was apparently gathering around the Skywhirl Tower.
"...wait, what exactly am I looking at?" Fena wondered.
"If it's what I think it means, it can only be trouble," Mira answered, reaching into her pocket.
To be continued in Totally Spies: Spaced Out...
