AUTHOR'S NOTES ENDS

Ash and Serena finally made it to Viridian City after finishing the last stretch of Route 1.

"Don't worry buddy. We'll get you some help really soon." Ash encouraged it. "Now, which way to the Pokemon Center?"

"Ash, look there!" Serena said, pointing to the City map.

"Alright! Now we'll be at the Pokemon Center in no time!" Ash said with a glint of excitement. "Let's go Serena!" He declared, and the two began to run. They may've been tired, but Pikachu needed to be at the Pokemon Center now.

As they continued to run to the Pokemon Center, Ash couldn't help but notice that the city seemed rather empty. He was wondering what might've happened when an announcement was made over the Speakers.

"Citizens of Viridian City. Please watch out as we have reports of three notorious Pokemon thieves here in our City. It is recommended to stay indoors, and please report any suspicious activity to the police immediately."

"Ugh! As if one problem wasn't enough, now we have to protect ourselves from Pokemon Thieves." Ash groaned.

"Don't worry Ash, we'll be okay. Nothing will happen. Now let's..." Serena said to him, to give him some comfort.

Deciding to keep it at the back of their minds, they continued to make a run for the Pokemon Center as Pikachu's condition continued to worsen.

"Hold right there!" A voice called them out from behind.

Turning around, the two starting trainers saw a police officer. She was observing them skeptically, trying to find any clues about them and the Pokemon thieves.

"Now where do you think you're going with that Pikachu?" She asked in a stern tone.

"Please officer. My Pikachu got injured while protecting me from a flock of Spearows. I need to get him to a Pokemon Center immediately." Ash cried.

Looking at the Pokemon, she knew it needed medical attention ASAP. But she needed to know if she could trust the kids.

"Alright, I'll help you out." The officer said.

"You will? Thank you." Ash and Serena said gratefully.

"Hold your Rapidashes kids. I'll need to see your Identifications first." She shot back, keeping the stern behavior on.

"Umm... We don't know what counts as one." Serena replied to that in a confused tone.

The officer frisked her to find her Pokedex. "Yeah this would do. What about yours?" She asked.

"Here's my Pokedex." Ash said taking it out of the inner pocket of his jacket.

"Hi I'm Dexter. I'm Ash/Serena's Pokedex, and my job is to provide him/her with information regarding Pokemon and their training.

"Ma'am could you point us to the Pokemon Center now?" Ash asked, worrying for his partner.

"I'll do you one better!" The officer declared, as she brought out her bike from the garage. "Hop in, and we'll be there in no time!"

The two starting trainers looked at each other and nodded. Serena got on to the back seat, while Ash took his seat on the side car.

"Alright kids, hold tight!" The officer warned while igniting the engine. "NOW!" And screaming so, she raced her bike out on full throttle.

"Wait you... two punks!" The ginger headed girl screamed, as she coughed from the smoke.

The officer continued to speed towards the Pokemon Center, while Ash and Serena began to think it was a bad idea. Who even gave this lady a driver's permit?

She skid her bike through the entrance, stopping right at the reception.

"We do have a drive-way you know!" The pink haired lady in the nurse uniform scolded her.

"Sorry, but it was an emergency." The officer replied Mareepishly.

"Yes ma'am. My Pikachu got really injured. Please help it." Ash pleaded her.

The nurse turned around to see Pikachu. It looked miserable. "What did you do to that poor little Pokemon! You made it battle until it was in that condition?" She asked sternly.

"Ma'am please help my Pikachu first." The boy pleaded again.

"Of course I will!" She screamed at him. By then her assistants had come forward with a stretcher.

Ash laid Pikachu on the stretcher and the Chansey pushed the stretcher into the Emergency ward.

Ash wanted to follow them, but Nurse Joy gave him a strict warning to stay out. He was already guilty about Pikachu's condition, and this was making it worse.

"Ash. Don't worry, it's going to be okay." Serena said, unable to see him in that condition.

"Tell me Serena, am I really a horrible trainer?" He asked, surprising the girl.

"Of course not Ash! You're a wonderful trainer! And the fact that we're alive is proof of that." Serena said sympathetically. "You asked Pikachu to go into its Pokeball, and you stood in front of those Spearows. Pikachu loves you Ash, that's why it protected you."

The officer was listening to all of this from behind, and deep inside she felt sorry for the boy. He had just begun his journey, and he's already gone through a life threatening situation. So she walked up to the two kids.

"Ash. You've done great so far. If there was anyone else in that situation, they would've left their Pokemon behind. Don't mind Nurse Joy though, she's a bit of a hot head. But when she'll know the truth she'll apologize." She said placing a hand on his shoulder. "Now you both take care of each other. And look out for those Pokemon thieves as well. They're dangerous."

"Thank you officer... Jenny." They both said, after reading her nameplate.

"I know how to cheer you on." She winked, and walked to the Videophones and dialed a number.

"Hello! Ketchum Residence!" A sweet lady said picking up the phone.

"Hello Mrs. Ketchum." Serena greeted the brunette.

"Oh Serena! How're you dear?" The lady asked excitedly. "Grace come here! It's Serena."

"Huh? Mom? You're there too?" The honey blonde asked as Grace entered the frame.

"Yeah Honey. Delia invited me and Rose over for tea. So, how's your journey so far?" Grace asked.

"Oh, it's umm been... exciting so far." She replied, not knowing what to say.

"Serena is Ash there too?" Delia asked.

"Yeah. Just give me a moment!" She replied with a smile. "Hey Ash, come over! Look Mrs. Ketchum's on the line!"

Ash reluctantly walked over to the Videophone and took the seat.

"My my Ash. You look like you've looked... better?" Delia said while studying her son. "What's the matter Ash? Is something wrong?"

"Oh, something's wrong alright!" Serena declared. "He just stood up to a flock of Spearows and Pikachu got hurt while saving him. And now he's moping around." She answered the question with a certain sass.

"It was my first journey, and I've already messed up so bad." Ash said with a sad tone.

"Now Ash. You quit making that sorry face! You have no idea what happened when your father started his journey! He traveled around Kanto to catch all sorts of Pokemon and complete the pokedex. And he took two days just to make it to Viridian City. In that entire time, he and Chari were beaten to submission by just a few Rattata! And you're not just some boy Ash! You're the son of Red and Delia Ketchum! You can't give up until it's over, and things are only getting started!" Delia said sternly.

Ash looked up into the screen, to see his mother smiling at him. "Now Ash, quit moping around, and learn from this experience. You're a new trainer, you'll make mistakes, everyone does. It's important to learn from your mistakes." Delia said again.

"Okay mom." Ash said, letting a smile on his face.

"Master. I wish to stay by your side for now." Lucario said approaching the frame. "I felt the disturbance in your Aura. And I feel I need to be with you."

"Okay Lucario, if that's what you want." Ash said before turning to his mother. "Mom, could you send Lucario over?"

"Of course Sweetie." Delia said cheerfully, as she went to get Lucario's pokeball. And Grace decided to enter the conversation now.

"Ash, Serena, I know you both are going to travel together. And I know that you'll get into trouble more often than not. I just want you both to promise that you'll have each other's backs" She said.

"Of course Ms Yvonne, even Serena made promise the same actually." Ash replied with a small smile.

Delia returned with Lucario's pokeball and placed it on the transfer machine. "Here you go Ash." She said.

The pokeball arrived on the other end, and Ash picked it up. "Lucario's here safe with me mom. Thanks."

"Oh you're welcome sweetie. Now you both take good care of each other, and don't forget to change your Underwear! Bye!" Delia said quickly, and cut the call, because she knew what her son was going to say. She just loved to embarrass him like this. What kind of a mom would she be if she didn't?

A Meowth shaped balloon flew across the Viridian Skyline, carrying a trio. "Ugh! Surely they don't know to take a picture, a Purple haired man spoke.

"The photographer will surely reject taking such terrible pictures!" A woman with long pink hair added.

"Now don't ya forget! Wev got ta take da Pokimon for da boss!" A strange Pokemon talking human announced.

"So Jess, are you ready to steal some strong and rare Pokemon?" The man asked with an evil grin.

"Of course I am! James!" The lady replied with an equally sinister smile.

"And don't foiget me! I am da top cat!" The talking Meowth replied.

The trio continued to steer their balloon towards the Viridian Pokemon Center.

Ash and Serena walk into the change rooms to change into their PJ's after a nice shower. Ash walks over to the emergency ward, waiting for Pikachu, while Serena decided to explore the Pokemon center a little bit.

Walking over to the Notice board, she saw a few posters. There was one for the Pokemon League, and she knew Ash was going to go for it.

She moved on to the next poster, while giggling at how eager Ash was to register for the league. And then frowned realizing how the Spearow situation completely took all that energy away.

This poster seemed to be interesting, she continued to look through it.

Are you interested in Fashion? Are you interested in battles?

Then this is your lucky day! The Battle Chateaus!

"This is just what I need!" She said to herself excitedly.

"Hey Serena, what are you looking at?" Ash asked while approaching her.

"I was just looking at these posters Ash." She replied after being startled for a moment.

"Wow! The Pokemon League! I'll register once Pikachu's alright!" Ash said instantly, looking at the Indigo League poster.

"Umm Ash... I was thinking about trying the Battle Chateau." Serena said to him nervously.

Ash turned his attention towards the other poster. "Hmm, the Battle Chateau. Let me think." He said, making a scrutinizing face.

Serena was scared. What if Ash said no, what if he left her because she wanted to do the Chateau Challenge? No! She couldn't let that happen. She turned to Ash who was silently giggling at her.

"Wow Serena, you look so cute when you're worried! Of course you can do the Battle Chateau! You love Fashion, and you're a trainer. They sound like the perfect thing for you!"

"Ash!" Serena screamed at him. "Did you have to scare me like that? I was so worried you know!"

"See, there's that cute look again!" He said pulling her cheeks, making her blush.

"Okay Ash. Now let's go check on Pikachu." Serena said, changing the topic and marching out towards the emergency ward, while Ash followed her.

Nurse Joy walked out of the Emergency ward, with Pikachu on the stretcher.

"Nurse Joy, is Pikachu... okay?" Ash asked nervously.

"Why do you care anyway? You're the one who let it get hurt so bad! Maybe you're the one who hurt it in the first place!" The nurse answered angrily.

"Stop!" Ash screamed as tears rolled down his eyes! "Just stop!" He screamed before running away.

"Ash wait!" Pikachu called weakly, but the boy didn't wait. "Ash!" Pikachu called out again, before taking off the machines and running behind him.

"Wait Pikachu! You're hurt!" The Nurse called out to it. But Pikachu turned around and growled angrily before turning around and trailing Ash.

"What happened?" Nurse Joy asked. "Why would Pikachu want to go to that terrible trainer?"

That was it for Serena. She'd been putting up with this for long enough. "Don't you see anything at all? Do you think Ash would do that to his Pokemon?" She lashed out at the Pink haired lady. "We were being chased by a flock of Spearows and Ash asked Pikachu to stay back and went to face them by himself. Pikachu ran towards him to save him, and that's how he got injured."

"Oh my." Nurse Joy realized how wrong she was. Please go and bring Pikachu back, it needs to rest, or else it can't make a recovery. And bring Ash too, I have to apologize to him for my rude behavior. And please forgive me for acting towards you like that as well."

"I'll go find Ash." She said and started to walk out.

"I FINALLY FOUND YOU!"

Ash was sitting on the park, letting out his tears with Lucario sitting beside him. Pikachu came running over to him and jumped into his lap.

"Huh!" The boy jumped in surprise. "Pikachu? Shouldn't you be recovering back at the Pokemon Center?"

"I don't wanna go there! How could that pinkie insult you like that?" The Electric Mouse said angrily.

"But Pikachu.." Ash said.

"I don't wanna leave you Ash. Besides, I didn't save you for you to mope around like this!" Pikachu snickered. "And I'm sorry, it was my fault the Spearows were agitated."

"Hey it's okay buddy. I don't blame you for that." Ash said giving it a smile.

"If I may Master. I could heal Pikachu." Lucario offered.

"You can?" The boy asked happily.

"Yes, he just seems to be low on energy. A heal pulse should be more than enough to bring him back." The Aura Pokemon answered.

"That's awesome!" Ash said, taking his hand from Pikachu's back.

Lucario put his palms forward and Green-blue waves began flowing from them. The move restored Pikachu's energy and the Mouse was back into action.

"Hell yeah!" Pikachu squealed happily.

"Alright, let's go back to the Pokemon Center. Knowing Serena, she'll probably be worrying like a Kangaskhan who lost her child." He chuckled. He then aimed a Pokeball towards Lucario. "Return for now"

Back at the Pokemon Center Serena faced the Ginger haired girl, who held the charred bike on her shoulders.

"What happened to your bike?" Serena asked in a surprised tone.

"You and your stupid Boyfriend! You burnt my bike to shreds!" The girl accused. "I want a new bike right this instant!"

"Wait. We were being chased by a flock of angry Spearows, and Ash and Pikachu almost died protecting all of us. Pikachu just ran out to find him and it hasn't even healed fully. Can you please wait until they're both a little better?" The honey blonde requested in a sweet tone.

"Don't think you can just escape! I want you to pay for my bike right here! Right now!" She screamed.

"Okay! Here, call this number, it's my mom's. She'll send you the money you want so desperately. Now get out of my way!" Serena replied, smacking her mom's number on the girls face, and running out to find Ash.

Just as she exited the Pokemon Center, she bumped into Ash.

"Hey Serena." The raven haired boy said while balancing her.

"Ash!" Serena jumped in surprise. "You're fine! Pikachu too!"

"Yeah, Lucario used Heal Pulse. Pikachu's feeling as good as new now." Ash said flashing a bright smile. "Besides, I knew you'd be worried as hell already."

"Of course I was worried. You just have a knack for landing into trouble all the time." She said sassily.

"Alright, let's just go and rest for now. So much has happened today, and I need dinner too." Ash chuckled, while his stomach rumbled in agreement.

"Yeah, well. There's more." Serena said while walking in ahead of him. The boy followed her in with Pikachu sitting on his shoulder.

He walked in to find Nurse Joy working in the reception. When the Nurse saw him, she got up and walked towards him with a guilty face.

"Ash, I'm sorry for everything I said back then. What you did is something every trainer must do for their Pokemon. Once again. I'm very sorry for everything."

"It's okay nurse Joy. You don't have to apologize for anything. You helped Pikachu back then, that's more than enough for us." Ash said. His tummy rumbled again, causing him to fluster in embarrassment.

"You guys can have the cafeteria food, it's on the house for you." The Nurse said, giving a cheery smile.

"I hope you have enough food Nurse Joy, because Ash can give competition to Snorlax." Serena added teasingly.

"And Ketchup for me!" Pikachu declared happily.

"Okay, but only one bottle buddy." Ash said rubbing its cheek playfully.

The two trainers walked into the cafeteria, with Pikachu perched on Ash's shoulders.

"Man that sure filled a hole!" Ash declared, while Pikachu satisfied itself with one bottle of lovely ketchup.

Serena giggled at the duo, while Lucario ate its food without making much noise. The ginger girl walked into the cafeteria, and that caught Ash's attention.

"Hey umm..." He started, not knowing her name.

"Hi, I'm Misty." She replied in a neutral tone.

"What do you want Misty? Didn't mom pay you for the bike?" Serena asked with hostility.

"I... I never asked." She replied. "I just wanted to say, that I'm sorry for treating you both so harshly all this while."

"It's okay Misty, and don't worry about your bike, I'll make sure you get a new one! Trust me!" Ash said with a smile on his face.

"I wanted to ask if, we can all be friends..?" She asked hopefully, but before they could answer, there was an explosion outside.

"What's going on?" Ash asked, getting up and walking out. Serena and Misty followed him without any questions.

Two pokeballs dropped through the hole on the roof, that was caused by the explosion. The contraptions released two pokemon. One was a purple hovering sphere with a rugged surface, and a skeleton symbol below its face. The other was a light purple snake with golden rattlers for its tail.

The Poison Gas Pokemon let out a smokescreen, covering the entire lobby, obstructing their vision.

"What's going on here?" Ash asked entering the lobby.

"Do not be frightened Little Boy." A lady started.

"Allow us to introduce ourselves." Her partner added.

"To protect the World from Devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
To denounce the evils of Truth and Love!"
"To extend our reach to the Stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket Blasts off at the Speed of Light!"
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth! That's right!"

"Okay, if you're done with that nonsense, what do you want?" Ash asked in an irritated tone.

"Speak with respect Twerp! Team Rocket are the most feared Criminals in the entire world!" The long pink haired woman yelled at him.

"I couldn't care more. Now go away before I make you!" Ash screamed again.

"This boy thinks he can take on us just like that huh." James asked.

"Well, let's see what he can do." Jessie chuckled evilly.

"Go Koffing, use Sludge Bomb attack!"

"Ekans, use Poison Sting!"

"Lucario, I choose You!" Ash said, summoning the Aura Pokemon.

The bipedal jackal appeared out of its pokeball in a fighting stance, taking the hits without any effect.

"Hey! Now that's a Primo Pokemon! It would surely give us the much deserved promotion." Jessie said excitedly.

"As disgusting as you sound now, I'll give you one last chance to go. If you don't leave this place without making any commotion, Lucario will make sure that there's plenty!" Ash declared angrily.

"We'll go alroit, and we'll be takin dis Lucario of yous!" The talking Meowth spoke.

"Alright Koffing Smokescreen!" James called out.

The Poison gas Pokemon let out a slur of brown gas, covering the entire room in smoke.

"Use your Aura to find them. They may not be as good as Dad's Espeon, but at least it'd be good warm up!" Ash called out.

Lucario nodded and closed his eyes. Its feelers began to rise while it continued to survey the Aura. "Like sitting Psyducks!" It chuckled, before creating an Aura Sphere in his palm. It sent the ball towards the five, causing an explosion and sending them back through the same blasted wall.

"Come on Master. You're better target practice than that." Lucario complained.

Ash and Serena chuckled at that response while Misty and Nurse Joy looked in confusion.

"So Ash, if you're a beginning trainer, how come you have a Lucario, and it's color isn't one I've ever seen either." Nurse Joy asked.

"Oh, I received Lucario's egg on my fifth birthday, and I've been raising it ever since.

"And what did it mean when it said 'you're better target practice'?" Misty asked.

"Well, ever since it hatched, we used to go to the forest to play and train. He started training me when he was a little Riolu, and I used to dodge his attacks. That's why it said I was better target practice." He replied while chuckling nervously.

"That's wonderful. And thank you for helping us out. There were many injured Pokemon who're being treated here, it would've been devastating if those crooks did something." Nurse Joy thanked him.

"It's okay Nurse Joy. We'd also like to get two rooms for tonight." Ash said.

"Sure, come right with me." Nurse Joy said, moving back to her counter...

"Alright Ash, you're registered for the Indigo League. Wish you the best of luck for all your upcoming battles." Nurse Joy said with a cheerful smile, as she handed his Pokedex back to him.

"Thanks Nurse Joy. We'll see you around then." Ash said, while he exited the Pokemon Center along with Serena, while Misty was waiting outside.

"Guys, I was wondering if, I could come along with you. I'd understand if you don't want to be friends with me, but I'm really sor..." Misty said apologetically.

"Hey Misty. It's okay, we both forgive you. Don't we Serena?" Ash said with his world-famous smile.

"Yeah. No hard feelings." Serena said, while giggling.

"Thank you guys!" Misty said happily, and jumped at the two for a hug.

AS THE JOURNEY CONTINUES!

AUTHOR'S NOTES

And that completes the fourth chapter. While Pikachu is the one who usually sends Team Rocket Blasting off all the time, I felt Lucario has both the strength and the skill to give them the proper blast off. It also gave the funny target practice joke.

Misty has now begun traveling with our heroes, she's still going to be just as feisty, but I wanted her to feel bad for yelling at Ash as well. Serena's sass was just the right thing to bring her down to Earth.

Until the next time!
