Once Upon a Time, there were two lovely princesses named Snow White and Ruby Rose. Their wicked stepmother the queen feared that someday Snow White's beauty would surpass her own. She also lived in fear that one day Ruby Rose's beauty would grow. So she dressed the little princesses in rags and force them to work as scullery maids.
Each day the vain queen consulted her magic mirror, "Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" As long as the mirror answered, "You are the fairest one of all." Snow White and Ruby Rose are both safe from the evil queen's cruel jealously.
All that changed one day when the queen asked the same question. This time, the mirror answered differently. It said, "Famed is thy beauty, Majesty. But hold, a lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee. Also a young girl I see, also rags cannot hide her grace and her kindness. She is a bit fair though." This made the queen mad. She demanded their names.
The mirror said for the first girl, "Lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow." For the second girl he said, "Skin fair as an apricot, eyes blue as a sapphire, hair red as the rose." The queen was shocked when she heard those two. She said in a fury, "Snow White and Ruby Rose!"
Meanwhile in the other part of the castle, two young girls were scrubbing the steps and the floors of the castle courtyard. They then sighed after humming. They grabbed their buckets and tossed the remaining water into the steps. Then they went to the well to get more water. Rose Red sang happily while her sister hummed happily.
Rose Red stood while Snow White pulled the rope to life the bucked out of the well. Then they looked at their bird friends, the palace doves.
The palace doves were their only friends at the time. Rose Red looked at her sister and said, "I think they should know something." Snow White agreed with her sister.
