Many believe being related to someone makes them 'family.' Thus, they can get whatever they want from their family for free. Or that 'family' won't ever turn on each other.
Yet, being related to someone doesn't make them family. Nor does being related mean you should get stuff for free. Nor be free of consequences for your negative actions. It remained something that the Rivera family was still learning. Since starting over and being in therapy? They'd come to realize these often misunderstood issues.
While its essential for loved ones to listen to and support each other, you're never entitled to anything from other family members. Nor if you do something wrong are you above punishment.
If you'd like someone's old laptop, for example? It would help if you were willing to pay for it. It's not like a book that costs so little. Laptops were expensive and a far more personal item.
Thus it would help if you understood why you need to compensate someone for an expensive item like that. Also, if another family member steals from you or other offensive? You're not immune from being punished. However, you should be firm and face the consequences of your actions. Thus its not an easy lessons to learn.
But from family therapy sessions, the Riveras were slowly becoming a more healthy and united family. Hopefully, they and other families could learn these lessons and become better people and stronger families.
