When You Said Yes

Rize lowered herself onto the couch in the living room with a warm cup of coffee in her hands. As she took a sip, a smile spread across her face. Absolutely delicious.

Rize was done with her work for the day and now she could finally relax. Her eyes drifted to the clock on the wall. It was getting pretty late. She wondered when Syaro would come back home.

Rize took another sip of her coffee. It would be nice if Syaro came back soon. Rize hadn't seen or talked to Syaro since the morning and she honestly missed her wife like crazy right now. Why on earth did Syaro always have to be so busy?

A sigh escaped Rize's lips. With how busy Syaro always was, Rize couldn't help but feel that she could never have Syaro to herself as much as she wanted. Though... The two of them got to spend a lot of time together on the weekends. And Chiya did force Syaro to take days off once in a while too.

Rize bit her lip. Maybe she was being a bit too greedy.

But she honestly couldn't help herself. Syaro was the love of her life and with each passing day, Rize only loved her more. Was it really surprising that she wanted to spend as much time as possible with Syaro? She seriously didn't think so.

Rize's lips quirked upward in a small smile. At least Syaro came home to her every single day. What would she have done if they weren't married? If they were still simply dating, then she wouldn't have been able to see Syaro so often. And Rize felt pretty sure she'd miss Syaro so badly that she'd hardly get anything done.

Rize set her cup down on the coffee table in front of her. She was pretty happy now but she remembered how nerve-wracking it was to propose to Syaro all those years ago. Rize leaned back into the couch as her eyes fluttered shut.

Proposing to Syaro was one of the scariest things she had ever done in her life. And she remembered every single thing that had happened back then...

"Chiya, you have to make sure Syaro doesn't find out about this! I'm serious. She can't find out."

Chiya beamed at Rize, her eyes sparkling with tears. "I can't believe you two are going to get married. I'm so happy for you two!"

Rize shook her head in frustration. "Chiya, you need to focus! I haven't even proposed to her yet. So congratulate me later."

"But you are going to propose. And that means you two will be married soon and-"

Rize grabbed Chiya by the shoulders and gave her a shake. "I need you to focus on what I asked you to do first."

Chiya smiled. "I need to figure out Syaro-chan's ring size, right?"

Rize nodded. "And?"

"And Syaro-chan can't find out that you're going to propose to her."

"Good. You think you can manage to figure out her ring size without making her suspicious?"

Chiya giggled. "I'm sure I'll figure something out."

Rize narrowed her eyes at Chiya. "And you're sure you won't get overexcited and accidentally tell her?"

"...Yes."

Rize let out an exasperated sigh. "You don't seem too confident." She buried her face in her hands. "Oh, this is already a disaster..."

Chiya gently pulled Rize's hands from her face and smiled up at her. "Don't worry, Rize-chan. I'll be extra careful. There's no way I'd ruin such a special moment for you two."

Rize bit her lip. Hearing Chiya say that was a relief but she could still feel her heart pounding in her chest like crazy. She was so nervous already. How was she going to actually propose?

Chiya's eyes softened. "Why do you look so scared, Rize-chan? You know Syaro-chan is going to say yes."

Rize looked away. "There's no way you can guarantee that."

"Oh, come on. You know how much Syaro-chan loves you. Why on earth would she say no?"

Rize let out a sigh. "I don't know. Maybe she'll get scared of the idea of having to deal with me for the rest of her life?"

Chiya giggled. "You've got to be kidding me."

Rize threw her a look. "Is it really that hard to believe? Someone like Syaro wanting to spend the rest of her life with me just seems so..."

"So right?"

"So impossible."

Chiya shook her head. "No, Rize-chan. It's not impossible. She'll say yes for sure."

Rize forced a small smile. She really hoped Chiya was right.

"Oh, hey, Rize. Are you going back home from work?"

Rize stopped dead in her tracks. The voice she usually loved to hear was the last thing she wanted to hear right now. She chewed her lip. She had to try her best to act natural.

Rize slowly turned around, forcing herself to smile. "Sy-Syaro! Yes, I'm going back home. Wh-What are you doing here?"

Rize mentally cursed herself for stammering so much. She was supposed to act natural, wasn't she? To think she'd fail so spectacularly at that. And now Syaro was looking up at her with an utterly confused look on her face. Damn it.

"Um..." Syaro pointed down the street. "I'm going back home too and this is my usual route. You know that, don't you?"

"Eh? Oh, yeah..." Rize let out a nervous laugh. "I wonder how I forgot about that."

Rize wanted to kick herself for forgetting something so important. She probably would have remembered if she wasn't so nervous right now. Then she could have avoided this route and not have run into Syaro. She really needed to pull herself together.

"Rize?"

"Huh?" Rize's lips curved upward in a strained smile. "Did you say anything?"

Syaro's eyebrows drew into a slight frown. "I asked if you wanted to go and have a snack somewhere."

Oh. So that was what Syaro wanted to know. But all Rize wanted to know was how someone could look so darn cute with a frown on her face. Damn it. Of course she wanted to go and spend some time with her adorable girlfriend. But she couldn't do that today.

Syaro's expression morphed into one of concern. "Rize, are you okay?"

"Ye-Yeah." Rize cleared her throat. "I'm okay. Don't worry."

"So... Do you want to go?"

"Uh..." Rize rubbed her neck. "I'm really sorry, Syaro. But I'm a bit busy right now."

"Oh. Do you have other plans?"

"...Yes."

"Oh, okay."

Rize's heart clenched at how disappointed Syaro looked right now. She looked really tired too. Maybe she had a hard day at work today?

"Syaro, is everything okay?"

Syaro gave Rize a small smile. "Yes, I'm okay. It'd be nice if I could spend some time with you after such a tiring day but there's nothing we can do if you're busy."

A pang of guilt shot through Rize. She didn't want to leave Syaro alone right now but she really wanted to buy that ring today. Last night, Chiya had managed to find out Syaro's ring size after getting her drunk on some coffee. To think that the fact that Syaro couldn't remember anything that happened while she was drunk would come in handy someday...

Rize didn't want to waste any time so she was currently on her way to buy the ring. But she couldn't tell Syaro that.

"So what plans do you have, Rize?"

Oh, crap. Now what was she supposed to say?

"Um... Well..."

Syaro furrowed her eyebrows. "You don't want to tell me?"

A nervous laugh escaped Rize's lips. "No, no, Syaro. It's nothing like that. I'm just going out a bit with a new colleague of mine."

"Oh. Just the two of you?"

"Y-Yeah. Her name is... Misaki-san. And she seems nice. So I thought I'd get to know her a little better. That's all."

As Syaro's smile fell, Rize wondered if she had said something wrong. Syaro seemed strangely upset. Rize was beginning to regret lying to her like this but she couldn't back out now.

"Syaro? You okay?"

Syaro gave her a bright smile. "Yes, I'm fine, Rize. I'll be heading home then. You have fun."

Rize's features pulled into a frown as Syaro turned on her heel and walked away. For the second time today, Rize felt like kicking herself. As Syaro's girlfriend, she was supposed to make Syaro happy. But she had managed to do the exact opposite.

That smile Syaro flashed her just now was fake. She was sure of it.

Rize collapsed onto the couch in her room and let out a long sigh. She was absolutely exhausted. It was only natural, though. A train trip to the city and back would tire anyone out.

But it was all worth it. A wide grin made its way to Rize's face. She asked Syaro's father for her hand in marriage and he said yes. Mission accomplished.

A knock sounded on the door. Creasing her eyebrows, Rize turned her head to look at the closed door. It was pretty late. Who could it be?

"Rize-chan, can I come in?"

Rize blinked. That was Yura's voice. What was she doing here now?

"Come on in, Yura."

The door opened and Yura walked in with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Rize wasn't sure if she should be worried. To be fair, Yura was almost always trying to tease her.

"Hey, Rize-chan. How was your trip to the city?"

Rize pursed her lips. It looked like she should be worried.

But she wasn't going to let Yura know she was. So Rize put on a smile. "It was nice. But how do you know I went to the city?"

"I actually came here in the morning to talk to you but you weren't here. Your father told me where you went."

"Oh. So this is the second time you're at my house today? Is there something important you need to talk about?"

Yura's lips curved upward in a sly smile. "Yes. I suppose you could say it's important."

Rize furrowed her eyebrows. Something about the way Yura was talking concerned her. Yura reached into her purse and pulled out a can of coffee. With a smile, Yura handed it to Rize.

Rize raised an eyebrow as she took the can. "What's this for?"

"It's a gift."

"A gift?"

"Yes."

"...Why?"

Yura giggled. "I'm here to congratulate you."

Rize gave Yura a blank stare. "Why are you congratulating me all of a sudden?"

"Have some of that coffee first. Then I'll tell you."

Rize blinked in confusion. This made no sense. But she was pretty curious, so she might as well do as told. Rize opened the can and took a sip. But before the coffee could actually make its way down her throat...

"So, Rize-chan, when are you proposing to Syaro-chan?"

Rize spit out the coffee in her mouth and began coughing. She beat her chest with her fist until the coughing subsided and looked up at Yura incredulously. "Seriously, Yura? That's why you gave me the coffee?"

Yura chuckled. "Well, that was fun, wasn't it?"

Rize threw Yura a glare as she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "Why do you think I'm going to propose to Syaro? We're pretty young and getting married now is-"

"Rize-chan, I know you're planning to propose to her. So you don't have to make silly excuses."

Rize pursed her lips. How did Yura know? The only person Rize had told about this was Chiya. She hadn't even told her father yet. She was going to do that tonight. Though, she did go and tell Syaro's parents today. But Yura obviously didn't hear it from them.

"Did Chiya tell you?"

"Oh, so Chiya-chan knows too?"

Rize creased her eyebrows. "You didn't hear it from Chiya? Then how do you know?"

Yura smirked. "I saw you walking out of a jewelry shop a few days ago."

Rize froze. Seriously? Yura actually saw her? Damn it. She had tried so hard not to be seen by anyone she knew. After all these years of training, she couldn't even accomplish this mission in secret.

Rize sighed. "I could've gone there to buy myself a necklace, you know?"

"You could have. But you didn't." Yura's smirk grew wider. "I saw you walking out of the shop with a tiny box in your hand. And I'm pretty sure that was a ring box."

Rize buried her face in her hands. She honestly should have slipped the box into her pocket before she left the shop. She was such an idiot.

Rize looked up to find Yura standing there with an extremely smug look on her face. Yura slinked over to the couch and sat down beside her with a grin.

"So when are you planning on proposing?"

"...Tomorrow."

Yura's eyebrows shot up. "Really? That's amazing, Rize-chan! I'm so happy for you."

Rize's features pulled into a slight frown. "Please don't make fun of me."

"Eh?" Yura furrowed her eyebrows. "I'm not making fun of you. Why would you think that? I'm honestly very happy for you, Rize-chan. I hope you and Syaro-chan have a wonderful life together."

Rize looked away. "You're just like Chiya, assuming that Syaro will say yes."

"Huh? Are you kidding me? Of course she'll say yes."

"You can't just assume that, Yura."

Yura snorted. "Syaro-chan has been in love with you since high school. Trust me, she wants to marry you too."

Rize buried her face in her hands. "Oh, I hope you're right, Yura. I'm so nervous I'm sure I won't get any sleep tonight."

Yura giggled. "So are you taking Syaro-chan out to some fancy restaurant tomorrow?"

Rize lowered her hands from her face and shook her head. "We're cooking dinner together at her place tomorrow. I'll ask her after that."

"Seriously? I thought you'd come up with something fancier."

"Syaro never liked the way everyone acted at our school. So I think Syaro will prefer a simple proposal."

"Hmm." Yura leaned back into the couch. "Maybe you're right."

A few moments passed by in silence before Yura's lips curved upward in a small smirk. "Hey, Rize-chan."

"What?"

"You went to the city today to talk to Syaro's parents, right?"

Rize raised an eyebrow. "Why do you know that?"

"Lucky guess."

"Sure..."

"So back to what I was saying." Yura grinned. "Does Syaro-chan know you went to the city?"

"Of course not."

"So you're sneaking around?"

Rize frowned. "Don't say it like that. That makes me seem bad."

Yura seemed unfazed. "What did you tell Syaro-chan you were doing today?"

Rize stared at Yura for a while, her eyebrows creasing in confusion. "Uh... Why do you seem so excited?"

"It's a proposal. Of course I'm excited!"

"...Okay."

"So what did you tell her?"

Rize looked away. "It's Saturday, so she called me to ask me whether I wanted to go out with her today."

"And...?"

"And I told her I had to go visit Misaki-san today."

"Who's that?"

"...A colleague of mine who doesn't exist."

"...Huh?"

Rize let out a long sigh. "I ran into Syaro the day I went to buy the ring. I had to come up with some excuse, so I made up Misaki-san. And then Syaro wanted to go out again a few days later but I was busy planning how on earth I'm going to propose to her. And I was scared I'd say something that'd make her suspicious if we went out together. So I ended up saying that I had to help out Misaki-san."

"So... Syaro-chan thinks you've been hanging out with this colleague of yours instead of spending time with her?"

Rize turned her head to look at Yura, sure that her exasperation was showing on her face. "Yes. Can you believe it? I couldn't come up with any new excuses. Honestly, with all my training, I can't believe I couldn't think of something new. I just used the same excuse over and over again. I hope Syaro isn't already suspicious."

Yura's features slowly pulled into a frown. "Rize-chan... That's what's bothering you?"

"Yeah. Why? Is there something else I should be bothered about?"

"Um... Syaro-chan thinks that instead of spending time with her, you've been spending time with a colleague."

"Yeah. So?"

Yura pursed her lips. "A female colleague."

Rize blinked in confusion. What was wrong with-

Rize's eyes widened as realization finally set in. "Uh oh."

Yura shook her head. "You're an idiot."

Rize bit her lip. "But we've already arranged that dinner date for tomorrow. So she shouldn't be too mad." Rize gulped. "I think."

The look of utter disappointment on Yura's face made Rize squirm. Yura let out a sigh. "You planned so much for tomorrow but you forgot to keep your girlfriend happy. You can be so stupid sometimes, Rize-chan."

Rize hung her head. Tomorrow's proposal just became a hundred times harder.

Rize wished the atmosphere wasn't so awkward on such an important day. But with how nervous she was about her impending proposal and how quiet Syaro was, this evening was the most awkward things had ever been between them aside from their first date.

When Rize first arrived at Syaro's house, everything seemed fine. But as they started cooking dinner, it quickly became obvious that Syaro wasn't in the best mood. She wasn't talking anywhere near as much as she usually did and while she did give Rize a few smiles, they were all fake. Every single one of them.

Rize wondered if she should postpone the proposal. But that would be pointless. She couldn't reveal that Misaki-san didn't exist without telling Syaro about the proposal. So she might as well just propose. Syaro would hopefully brighten up after that.

...Hopefully.

As the evening went by, Rize found her heart beating faster and faster. The two of them ended up eating dinner in silence since Rize was far too nervous for small talk. Syaro didn't say anything either. Was she really that upset?

After they finished eating, Syaro cleared the table and carried all the dishes to the sink. Rize slowly stood up and took a few steps forward. She gulped. This was it. She had no idea how Syaro was going to react but she had to do it.

Syaro came back and stopped a few steps away from Rize. She stared at Rize for a while, her expression unreadable. "Rize... Is there something you want to tell me?"

Rize blinked. "Uh... Was I being that obvious?"

"You've been fidgety ever since you got here."

"...Oh."

Rize bit her lip. She stared at Syaro, her heart feeling like it would jump out of her chest. What was she going to do if Syaro said no? Run back home crying? Yep. That sounded exactly like what she was going to do.

But... What if Syaro said yes? Rize's breath caught in her throat. Chiya, Yura and even her father were adamant that Syaro would never reject her. Rize prayed that they were right.

Syaro's features pulled into a slight frown. "Rize? Aren't you going to tell me?"

Rize squeezed her eyes shut, her head spinning. Hadn't she spent the last few days practicing what she was going to say? Then why couldn't she remember anything now?

Rize slowly opened her eyes and gazed at Syaro. This was the person she loved more than anyone else in the world. The girl she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

A sudden surge of determination shot through Rize. She couldn't keep Syaro waiting any longer. This was it.

With a gulp, Rize took a step forward. And then another. And another. She reached forward, took Syaro's hands in hers and gave them a squeeze. When Syaro looked up at her in confusion, Rize gave her a nervous smile.

"Syaro..." Rize took a deep breath and let it out. "I have something important to tell you."

A flash of what seemed like worry crossed Syaro's face. Rize's smile widened a tiny bit. She didn't know what Syaro was expecting her to say but it wasn't something that should worry her. All Rize had to do was say it. And then all of that worry would hopefully disappear.

Rize bit her lip. "Syaro... You know I love you, right?"

Syaro stared up at her in silence, her lips pursed. Rize honestly wished Syaro wasn't so mad at her right now. But that anger would vanish soon.

...Right?

Eventually, Syaro gave Rize a small nod. "Yes. I know."

Rize squeezed Syaro's hands, her heart pounding in her chest. Seriously, why was her mouth so dry? Her head was beginning to spin again too.

Rize let out a long breath. "Syaro..."

Syaro's features pulled into a frown. "I don't know what's making you so nervous, Rize, but you might as well tell me and get it over with."

Rize winced. Get it over with? Oh, come on. That didn't sound romantic at all. She couldn't blame Syaro, though. It wasn't like she knew what Rize was about to do.

A nervous smile made its way to Rize's face. "Syaro, I love you. I know I've said it a thousand times before but that's honestly not enough. Because even a million times won't be enough."

Syaro furrowed her eyebrows. "...What are you talking about?"

Rize let go of Syaro's hands and took a step back. "I love you more than I'll ever be able to express in words. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

Syaro's eyes widened. "Rize, what are-"

Rize knelt down on one knee, took out the small velvet box from her pocket and flipped the lid open. "Will you marry me, Syaro?"

Syaro stared at Rize with wide eyes. For what seemed like an eternity, Syaro remained frozen. Rize wondered if she had surprised Syaro a bit too much.

As Syaro's expression finally began to change, Rize readied herself for Syaro's response. But Syaro didn't look happy as Rize had hoped. She didn't look upset either, though. That was probably a good sign. However...

Syaro looked absolutely bewildered. Why? Shouldn't she be over her shock by now?

"Rize... You... You're... You're proposing to me?"

Rize nodded. "I am."

"For real?"

"Yes."

"...To me?"

Rize frowned. "Who else would I propose to?"

Syaro furrowed her eyebrows. "Um..." She looked away, the expression on her face one of genuine confusion.

Rize pursed her lips. Of all the reactions she was expecting, this most certainly wasn't one of them. Syaro was way too confused. Not just surprised. But confused. This made no sense whatsoever.

Syaro turned her head to look at Rize, her eyebrows creased. "So... You don't have feelings for Misaki-san?"

"Excuse me?"

Syaro flinched. "Uh... Well... You've been spending a lot of time with her recently. So I thought..."

Rize jumped off the floor and stared down at Syaro, searching for anything, absolutely anything, that might suggest that Syaro was joking. But she found nothing of the sort. Syaro was dead serious, wasn't she?

Rize's shoulders slumped in defeat and utter disbelief. This was ridiculous. After all these years, how could Syaro even think she'd develop feelings for someone else?

Syaro bit her lip. "Rize...?"

Rize pursed her lips. "We've been dating for a few years, Syaro. And in all of these years, have you ever seen me even slightly interested in any other girl?"

"Rize..."

Rize pointed a finger at Syaro. "You're the only one I've ever been interested in, Syaro. The only one I've ever had my eyes on. The only person I've ever been in love with."

Syaro's eyes dropped to the floor, her expression morphing into one of guilt. "I'm really sorry, Rize. I just..."

"You just what, Syaro? You thought I'd leave you for some new colleague I just met?"

Syaro looked away. "I'm sorry..."

Rize narrowed her eyes at Syaro. "I'm the one who asked you if we could spend the evening at your place. Why would I do that if I had feelings for someone else? What sort of a person do you think I am?"

Syaro chewed her lip, discomfort evident on her face. "I, uh... I actually thought you were going to break up with me tonight."

Rize's eyes widened, her jaw dropping. "Are you kidding me?!"

Syaro didn't look up at her. She simply continued to stare at the floor. Rize's heart clenched painfully. Damn it. This was all her fault. She really should have come up with a better excuse.

"Syaro... Is that why you've been so upset today?"

Syaro gave Rize a small nod. "I... I really don't know what to say. I..." Syaro finally looked up at Rize. "I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry."

Rize let out a sigh. "It's okay. This is honestly my fault."

Syaro averted her eyes. A few moments passed in silence before Syaro looked up at Rize, biting her lip. "Um... Rize?"

"Yeah?"

"...Are you absolutely sure you'll never have feelings for Misaki-san? Because I don't want to stand in the way of your happiness and if you're happy with someone else then-"

"Oh, my God, Syaro!" Rize threw her hands up in exasperation. "Misaki-san doesn't even exist!"

"...Eh?"

Rize pinched the bridge of her nose. "This person you're so... jealous of is just someone I made up."

Syaro looked offended. "I'm not jealous."

"Oh, really?"

"Of course not."

"So you're fine if I just waltz out of here and go spend the evening with someone else?"

The look on Syaro's face was priceless. Rize wasn't sure if she should laugh at how hard Syaro was trying to conceal her anger or if she should cry because her proposal was not going the way she had hoped. This honestly was a disaster.

Syaro pursed her lips. "Fine. I admit it. I don't like the idea of you spending so much time alone with some other girl. Happy?"

Rize's lips quirked upward. "That's nice to know. But I haven't been spending time with someone else. Misaki-san doesn't exist. I needed an excuse and that was the best thing I could come up with. I'm sorry for being such an idiot."

Syaro creased her eyebrows. "Excuse for what?"

Rize held up the ring box. "For planning this proposal. I didn't want to ruin the surprise."

Syaro's eyes widened as a look of realization washed over her face. She stared at Rize, mouth agape. "I... Oh, my God. I'm so sorry, Rize!"

Rize shook her head. "Don't apologize. It's not your fault."

"But it is! Oh..." Syaro buried her face in her hands. "I'm so stupid... You planned all this out and I ruined it."

"You didn't ruin it."

Syaro slowly lowered her hands and looked up at Rize, guilt written all over her face. "You've been acting funny for over a week. You must have worked hard, huh?"

"I guess... Going to the city and coming back the same day was probably the most tiring part."

Syaro furrowed her eyebrows. "You went to the city? Why?"

"To ask your father for your hand in marriage."

Syaro looked like she was about to cry. Rize bit her lip. This absolutely wasn't going like she had planned.

"You even talked to my father? I... I..."

Rize's eyes softened at how upset Syaro looked. "Calm down, Syaro. It's okay. It really is."

Syaro let out a shaky breath. "Rize..."

"Yes?"

"Is the... Is the offer still..."

Rize creased her brow. "What offer?"

Syaro pointed at the box in Rize's hand and averted her eyes. Rize's eyebrows shot up. Seriously?

"Syaro, are you seriously asking that? You really think I'd change my mind because of a silly misunderstanding?"

Syaro didn't respond. She simply stared at the floor, nothing but discomfort all over her face. Rize let out a sigh. They'd been dating for years and Syaro still didn't seem to understand just how much Rize loved her.

Slowly, Rize went back down on one knee. As Syaro finally turned to look at her, Rize gave her a small smile. "Syaro, I truly do love you. And I really do want to spend the rest of my life with you. That's something I'm absolutely certain of." Rize flipped open the lid of the ring box, a grin making its way to her face. "So will you marry me, Syaro? I promise I'll spend the rest of my life trying to show you exactly how much I love you."

Once again, Syaro looked like she was about to cry. Syaro took a deep breath and let it out. "I still can't believe this is happening but... Yes. I'd love to marry you, Rize."

The grin on Rize's face grew wider and she slipped the ring onto Syaro's finger. Standing up, she pulled Syaro into a fierce kiss. As she pulled away, Rize flashed Syaro a bright smile. "Thank God you said yes."

Syaro looked away, her cheeks turning crimson. "As if I could say no."

Rize laughed, all of her stress melting away. Syaro said yes. They really were going to spend the rest of their lives together. She couldn't wait to tell everyone. And she felt so giddy right now that she couldn't wipe the grin off her face no matter how much she tried. Oh, well. Syaro would just have to endure how she was grinning like an idiot.

Syaro looked up at Rize, her eyebrows slightly creased. "There's something that's still confusing me. Mind if I ask?"

"Of course not, sweetheart."

"Um... We're really young. Why did you propose to me now?"

A warm smile made its way to Rize's face. "It's true love. So I thought, why wait?"

Syaro's eyes glistened. Rize chuckled at how hard Syaro was trying not to cry. She placed a soft kiss on Syaro's forehead and pulled her into a strong embrace. As Syaro returned the hug, Rize buried her nose in Syaro's hair.

This moment was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

"...ze. Rize. Hey, are you awake?"

Rize's eyes snapped open to find Syaro staring down at her, her eyebrows furrowed in concern. Rize rubbed her eyes as she turned her head to look at the clock. Syaro was finally back home, huh?

"Rize, did you fall asleep? You didn't even finish your coffee. You poor thing. You must be really tired."

Rize's eyes drifted to the cup of coffee on the table. "I didn't exactly fall asleep." She suppressed a yawn. "...But I might have been half asleep."

"I'm sorry I'm so late, Rize. I wish I could've come back earlier. I could have helped you make dinner."

Rize looked up at Syaro. Syaro was obviously exhausted herself and yet she was worrying about her. It honestly made Rize love her more than ever.

Rize quickly pushed herself off the couch and pulled Syaro into a long, deep kiss. Syaro seemed startled at first but she eventually relaxed and melted into the kiss. Rize pulled her closer and slowly moved her lips against Syaro's. Rize smiled. Having Syaro in her arms like this just felt right.

As Rize finally pulled away, Syaro raised an eyebrow at her. "What was that for?"

Rize smirked. "You didn't like it?"

"I can't say I didn't." Syaro furrowed her eyebrows. "But I thought you were half asleep."

"I was. But it wasn't because I was tired. It was because I was... Reminiscing."

"Reminiscing? About what?"

"About how I proposed to you."

"Oh. About that." Syaro bit her lip. "I really thought you were going to break up with me that day."

A mischievous smile made its way to Rize's lips. "Aren't you glad you were wrong?"

"Well..." Syaro put on a thoughtful look. "Maybe...?"

"Oh, come on."

Syaro giggled. "Yes, I'm glad. Very, very glad."

Rize grinned. "So do you think I managed to keep my promise? To show you exactly how much I love you?"

Syaro wrapped her arms around Rize's neck and smiled up at her. "Yes, you did." She leaned forward and whispered into Rize's ear, "But I wouldn't mind if you showed me a bit more."

With a chuckle, Rize gathered Syaro into a hug and kissed her on the top of her head. "Sure thing, Syaro. Sure thing."

I've been wanting to write a proposal fic for quite some time. I'm glad I finally managed to get it done.

Read and review, folks! I'm always open to feedback and constructive criticism.
