Hey everyone, I couldn't quite sleep last night so I wrote this haha
I'm hoping to upload more of this (and experiment a bit while I try and recreate the characters from my other stories), so let me know what you think :)
Chapter 1
The wind swept her hair out of her face, though May couldn't help but grin as a familiar black-haired man yelled out, 'slow down you Rapidash, you're going to get hurt!'
Glancing back to blow a raspberry at the man, May retorted, 'then hurry up and catch me, Birch! Just don't go losing your hat!'
Laughing, May continued to speed on ahead, her mach bike riding with a speed that Brendan's acro could never reach, and with Orlando's broken bike he wasn't even a contender.
While her bike was built for speed on roads, Brendan's was built for acrobatics, meaning that it could handle rougher terrain than her purely racing bicycle. On this terrain, he should have had the upper hand if May wasn't standing while riding.
If they'd had the same bike, she wouldn't have stood a chance, though May had never been interested in the acro bike. She wasn't coordinated enough to try and perform any of those tricks, so she was always happy to sit and watch Brendan and Orlando try to out-do each other.
That was only part of the reason why she'd tagged along with their expedition to survey pokémon on Mount Chimney. The other part was, well, she missed her best friend and diaper buddy, not that she'd ever admit it to the insufferable git.
If he'd heard that his ego would inflate harder and faster than any puffed up Jigglytuff throwing a tantrum.
Facing forward, May saw the cliff she'd been racing for. Up ahead, there was a narrow path that would take her to the top of the mountain, and she wasn't going to slow down enough to let Brendan keep up with her.
The fact that he'd kept up with her at all showed how rough their terrain was, normally he would've been completely out of sight, fuming about May cheating by the bike she'd chosen. As far as she was concerned, he could fork out the astronomical fee to buy a new one.
Bracing herself, May knew that there was going to be a pokémon behind the cliff somewhere. They were far too high up and far too remove for that not to be the case. With their bet, May hoped she didn't bump into it, especially since a free meal was at stake.
Her mouth was already watering at whatever she could trick Brendan into getting her.
'Diglett Dig!' Came a voice, though May wasn't paying attention, slowing only marginally to make the turn.
She had to beat Brendan, and it wasn't just for the free meal. He'd been getting far too cocky and she wanted to put him in his place, and this was the best way possible.
Going past the cliff face, it took May only a moment before registering the small, brown pokémon as its head popped out from the dirt.
Letting out a string of curses, May yanked at her bike, instinctively trying to avoid it with a cry.
Before she knew what was happening, her bike was toppling.
Putting down her right foot, May let out a yelp as she realised there was nothing there.
A stab of panic filled her, her eyes looking back the way she'd came.
Brendan couldn't see her.
He'd have no idea where she was.
Shoving the bike at the cliff wall, she let a scream as nothing but air surrounded her, her arms reaching for the cliff side.
Looking down, she saw nothing but darkness, her heart leaping in her throat.
This couldn't be happening.
She'd never even told him how she felt.
Crashing painfully into the stone cliff, May tried to grab on, but her hands raked the hard cliff-side without making a dent.
She didn't have any rock pokémon, nor any flying types.
She was out of options.
'Brendannnnnnnnn!' Mary yelled, hoping he'd hear her over the roaring winds.
