Three Weeks Later
Hiccup has been on this island building a small base with the essentials. A hut, storage hut, a forge, and a dock to fish. He and Toothless has been stuck on this island hiding out from the Hunters. During that time, the two discovered the Night Terrors. A small dragon species that gather together in a flock to make one massive dragon shape. The first week was stressful until Hiccup discovered their secrets. Now Hiccup loaded Toothless's saddle with supplies for a journey to find a village outside of the Archipelago. Hopefully, they find friendly suppliers or others who are willing to learn about dragons. As Toothless finished his meal of fish, Hiccup looked at a piece of parchment and drew the island on it, marking its location.
"What should we name the island bud?" Hiccup asked as Toothless kept eating. The Viking looked at the edge high above the cove below. Then it clicked. Dragons Edge. He wrote down the name before grabbing his copy of the world map. He lifted the parchment up and Toothless licked it. Hiccup laid the edge of the parchment on the map and forever marked down the Dragons Edge. He filed the map carefully before tucking it into his journal. The Viking put the journal in a pouch of the saddle before jumping on. "Ready bud?"
Toothless replied while a smile and the two friends soured into the sky. No matter how long it will take, they will find allies in this new fight. They flew in the clouds taking cover from any surface ship that may belong to the Hunters. As they flew, Hiccup wondered what these new lands hold. He already found new dragon species and an aggressive tribe of Vikings.
Two Days Later
For the last few days, the two flew over the ocean finding a few small islands of trees, rocks, and mountains. He marked down the islands on his map at the end of each day. This new island was a possible Allie or a threat. The two dove down to the surrounding forest. He landed and Hiccup pulled out his sword. The two walked through the forest watching out for traps. But Hiccup felt a pain in his neck and the world went black as he collapsed.
When Hiccup's eyes opened, he was in a dirt cell. The young Viking tried to climb up to see what the village was like, but he slide back down. He looked up to see it was some time in the afternoon. Hiccup felt the dirt walls trying to find a weak point. As he searched, Toothless was groaning in joy and hopping. "Toothless, quiet."
"So the Hunter is awake." a villager said and Hiccup sighed. Soon a group of masked villagers surrounded the cell.
"I'm not a Hunter." Hiccup remarked as the cell was opened from above. A rope was thrown down.
"Come to your trial Hunter." a villager ordered as Hiccup climbed the rope to prove his innocence. As he was taken to two large stone pillars, he inspected the village. He saw a pillar with a statue of a dragon he has never seen before. By the looks of it, it's a Boulder Class. As he walked the stone holding the pillars up, he saw a young blonde woman with black armor and gold trimmings sitting on a stone throne.
"Here is the Hunter my Queen." a tall man said.
"I am not a Hunter." Hiccup corrected.
"Yet you enslave a wounded dragon. When we tried to free him, he would not go and if he wanted to, he could not. Tell me how he gain such wounds." the Queen asked and Hiccup knew he was not going to have a good time.
"My tribe have been at war with dragons yes. Yes, I shot Toothless down." Hiccup said before the Queen interrupted.
"So you wanted to kill a dragon?"
"At the time, yes, but when I found him tangled up from my actions, I saw that he looked just as frightened as I was. I looked at him and saw myself." Hiccup answered.
"Then why isn't he free. Your actions enslaved a dragon."
"I gained his trust. His respect. We bonded and now we are rider and dragon. Friends." Hiccup answered and several of the Villagers whispered the Queen. She raised her hand and stood up.
"So why are you here?"
"I'm looking for help to fight the Hunters just like you. Looking for Vikings who are willing to learn and trust dragons enough to let them be rider and dragon." Hiccup answered and the Queen took a few steps.
"If you think you can train dragons then prove it. To the nest. Let the Dragons judge." the Queen ordered and the villagers escorted them up the mountainside. Hiccup wondered what was in the nest. But he looked back to see Toothless following them in the treeline. He smiled knowing that if trouble comes then he'll have some backup. When they entered the mouth of a cave, Hiccup saw different dragons gathered in chambers of the cave. These villagers may be an Allie Hiccup needs now.
"This is your last chance Hunter. Slow death or go home to your masters without the dragon. I do not care that you are a boy, but this is how things are done here." the Queen remarked giving Hiccup a chance at life.
"I'm not a Hunter." Hiccup said as they reached a chamber with a pit. Inside the pit were four Speed Stingers. "Oh no."
Hiccup was pushed into the Pit and the Stingers were walking towards him trying to determine if he was a threat. Hiccup pulled some Dragon Nip from his jacket pocket. He Dragon Nip could help calm aggressive dragons down, but he was no idea if it works for Speed Stingers. They charged and Hiccup tossed the Nip in the air before running. The Nip did nothing but cause a small distraction. They sniffed it and sneezed, before chasing him. Hiccup yelled and then Toothless roar echoed through the cave. The villagers looked behind them, the Stingers sniffed the air. Moments later, Toothless shoved the villagers and glided in front of Hiccup. He fired a plasma blast knocking the Stingers down. Hiccup jumped on Toothless's bareback and the two escaped the pit. They landed in front of the Queen and the two friends stood tall while the warriors stood ready to defend their Queen.
"You wanted the dragons to bear judgment. Then ask yourself, why would Toothless risk his life for me if I was a Hunter?" Hiccup asked as silence filled the air for a few moments. The Queen stood up.
"Stand down." the Queen ordered her guards.
"But my Queen." one guard replied.
"Stand down." the Queen ordered and the guards lowered their weapons. "For now I will trust you. But if I find out that you are working with the Hunters, I will not hesitate to end you."
One Day Later
Hiccup has been working with the Defenders of the Wing planning strategies to fight the Hunters and thanks to the Defender's knowledge of the Hunters, Hiccup could better fight against them. He made several defense plans if the Hunters attack and gave them designs of Hiccup's Bola Launcher. Now the young Viking was going up the volcano to study the Eruptodon with a guard escort of course. Toothless followed behind as a loyal friend. Hiccup already had a few details thanks to the Defender's years of knowledge. But he wanted to see the dragon first hand, to see if they missed anything. When the Viking arrived at the mountain, the dragon flew back to the top of the crater. It was amazing to the young man. The dragon walked towards the Viking and Hiccup raised his hand. The Eruptodon let Hiccup's hand touch its chin and the Viking a connection with this dragon. The dragon flew back to the pool of lava and Hiccup headed back down to the village for more planning.
Two Days Later
"Okay bud let's go." Hiccup whispered to Toothless before they took off to the skies. Thanks to the Defenders, Hiccup knew of several villages, outposts, and markets that could aid Hiccup and some that could learn from dragons. Thanks to their Forge, he was able to make a new Shield with little bonuses in them. Now he was exploring more to add to his map and fight for the dragon world. Now he was heading to Skrill Cove. A medium size tribe that had frequently electrical storms and Skrill attacks. The tribe was known for killing Skrills on a good day. Perfect knowledge for Hunters, but if Hiccup could convince the tribe to bond with the Skrills, then there could be peace and a powerful Allie against Viggo and Ryker Grimborn and those Hunter Allies.
Four Days Later
Hiccup and Toothless flew in the storm watching out for a Skrill. He knows that the dragon was feared among all Vikings. Almost as much as the Night Fury. When the village came into view, he breathed a sigh of relief. Then he heard it. Growling in the dark clouds as his hair began to stand on end. He looked around and noticed a figure in the darkness. The figure disappeared and reappeared several times. Hiccup decided to risk a confrontation from the village and dove down. Just in time too as the Skrill fired a blast of lightning at them. As the two were diving down, arrows opened fire on them. They dodged the fire and landed on a tree. But the Skrill fell to the ground after taking an arrow in its wing. The Rider and the Dragon were noticed, but the villagers surrounded the angry Skrill. As the skrill glowed with electricity, Toothless fired several blasts between the dragon and the humans. Both sides looked at Hiccup and Toothless direction. "Let's meet the locals."
"Who are you?" a villager asked and Toothless glided onto a wooden cart.
"Names Hiccup and do not hurt the dragon." Hiccup answered as Toothless walked through the crowd to the wounded Skrill.
"Dragon lover scum." another villager remarked.
"My tribe fought dragons just like you are fighting the Skrills. But it won't end if we keep on thinking that dragons are just mindless creatures." Hiccup added as they reached the Skrill. It growled at them as Hiccup got off of Toothless.
"So what are you going to do coward!" another Viking yelled.
"Get its trust." Hiccup remarked as he cautious walked to the growling Skrill. It gave a warning hiss and Hiccup rolled the shield back to Toothless. The dragon kept its eye on Hiccup as he tossed his sword to the ground. Hiccup walked carefully to its wing and grabbed the arrow. When Hiccup pulled it out, the Skrill let out a mighty roar and lightning fired into the air. The dragon tried to fly away but fell from the pain. Hiccup went to the wound a put a special herb Gothi made back on Berk for such injuries. The Skrill gave a hiss, but it breathed calmly. Once Hiccup was done, the dragon looked at the bandaged wound and gave a bow. Hiccup bowed his head and the Skrill away in peace.
"How could you do that?" an older man asked as he walked on a cane towards Hiccup and Toothless. "I've only seen us get that close with a sword in its heart at a cost. Yet you could touch it with your hands and live, unscathed. How?"
"Dragons aren't monsters." Hiccup answered as Toothless held Hiccup's shield in his mouth. The Rider grabbed it with a smile. "They're just like us. Survivors."
Next Morning
Hiccup woke up in Skrill Cove to the sound of thunder and rain. Last night Hiccup made an impression and now the village was divided. Some thought that Hiccup could lead them to something new, while others still want to kill the dragons. The old man from last night was the Chief and allowed Hiccup and Toothless a temporary hut. Today they were going to discuss as a tribe, what to do with him. Whether his way was the new way or wrong. Either way, there was hope for the Skrills here. If Hiccup hadn't come, then they could have been wiped out here within a year or so.
