Izuku didn't go to school the next day. Or the day after that. In fact, he didn't plan on going back to Aldera ever again. It was his mom's idea that he find another school. Perhaps even one that let him learn at his own pace. There was just one problem. The only school near them that accepted Quirkless students was Aldera. Not even schools an hour away by train would accept him once they heard the word Quirkless. His mom was furious, but she pushed those feelings aside for a later date. She had more important things to worry about.

"There's a school in Namimori that accepts Quirkless students. But it's a three hour train ride from here. There's no way for me to make that commute every day," Izuku muttered, dejected. Inko however, had perked up.

"Did you say Namimori?" she asked. Izuku nodded, not quite understanding what had caught his mother's attention. Inko ruffled Izuku's hair and went to grab something from her bedroom. She returned a few minutes later with a photograph. She sat on the couch, patting the space next to her. Izuku sat down without question. Inko handed him the photo so he could get a better look. Izuku easily recognized his mom in the photo, along with Auntie Mitsuki. However he didn't recognize the other two people in the photo.

"Who are they?" Izuku asked. Inko pointed to the first person, a woman with long white hair.

"This is Yukimura Rei, although she took her husband's name after marrying him. I've never met the man personally, but Rei-chan never seemed happy with him. Although she was always gushing about her children when we got to talk. Her youngest would be about your age right now. Unfortunately, there was some sort of incident. Her husband never told me all the details. Just that Rei was being placed in a mental hospital and he didn't want me calling their house again. I haven't been able to reach her since," Inko explained. Izuku frowned at the story his mother told. Something didn't seem right. But before he could delve too deep in his thoughts, his mom pointed to the last woman in the photo. She had light brown hair coming down past her shoulders.

"This is Kikuchi Nana, or rather Sawada Nana now. We've been best friends since middle school. I used to live across the street from her and we attended Nami Middle together, then later Nami High School. We both went to the same college here in Musutafu, but I stayed and married Hisashi while she moved back to Namimori," Inko explained. Izuku thought for a second.

"Is she the person you call on sundays?"

"That's right," Inko said, smiling gently. "We never fell out of touch with each other because of that. She's still my best friend, even though we haven't gotten to see each other in a long time. And Nana's son is just a couple years younger than you. He just started his first year of middle school."

"But mom. Why are you telling me this?" Izuku asked, confused.

"Like you, Tsuna doesn't have a quirk," Inko answered. Izuku felt his eyes widen as she continued. "Or rather, his quirk hasn't manifested yet. Tsuna doesn't have the extra toe joint. By all means, he should have a quirk. It just never showed up," she explained.

"His quirk must have specific activation requirements. Or perhaps a mental quirk? If it's subtle it's possible nobody even realized it had been active. It's also possible he has a quirk that is unsafe for his body and that's why the quirk has stayed dormant," Izuku muttered. There were so many possibilities as to why someone with a quirk wouldn't have manifested it. It was a rare occurrence, as most quirks appeared when a child was four, but one in every fifty kids had a quirk like that.

Inko watched her son get lost in his own thoughts for a few more seconds before she interrupted. "Izuku," she said softly. Izuku quieted immediately, turning his focus on Inko once more. "How would you feel about going to live with Nana and Tsuna?"

Out of everything Izuku expected his mother to ask, that was not one of them.

"What? No way mom!" Izuku protested. Inko raised a hand to stop his protests before he could explain every reason that was a bad idea.

"It won't be for very long. A few months at most. I can sell the apartment and find a place for us in Namimori. But until then, you could stay with Nana so you don't miss too much school," Inko explained. Izuku had to admit, it made sense. He didn't know how long it would take before his mom would be able to sell their home. He also didn't know how long it would to take to buy a new home, let alone moving and anything else that might need to be done. He could try to tough it out at Aldera until they were ready, but he knew his mom would never allow that. Staying with Nana was the best course of action if he didn't want to miss a lot of school. Even so…

"What if there are bullies at Namimori too?" Izuku asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Inko's heart broke.

"Oh baby," Inko muttered, pulling Izuku into a tight hug. He leaned into her touch, resting his head on Inko's shoulder. Inko carded a hand through his green curls. "I can't promise there won't be bullies. God I wish I could, but the world we live in is unfair. There is so much discrimination and corruption everywhere. No matter where you go, people are going to be against you because you don't have a quirk. But if Namimori is anything like I remember, then it will be nothing like Aldera. When I was a student, we had thirteen quirkless students attending and none of them ever looked like they had been mistreated," Inko said. She knew that it would take a long time for this trauma to heal and cursed herself again for never noticing the signs.

"But mom. You haven't been a student in years," Izuku told her quietly. Inko nodded.

"You're right. I haven't. But you've also never been a student at Namimori before. What if it turns out to be completely different than you're expecting?" Inko asked, not expecting an answer. However, it did get Izuku thinking. He stared at the floor for several minutes, a conflicted look on his face.

"I'm scared mom," Izuku said finally, turning to look at her.

"I know baby. And you know what? I'm scared too. But that's okay. Fear is important. It keeps us safe. But sometimes we need to overcome that fear to do what's best. I bet there are plenty of heroes that are afraid but they still rescue people every day," Inko said. The hero comparison drew a small smile to Izuku's lips, making Inko grin in victory. She scooted closer to Izuku, giving his hair a kiss. "If it doesn't work out, we can find somewhere else. We'll enroll you into online classes so you don't have to go to school," she said softly. Never again would she allow Izuku to suffer like that again.

"Okay," Izuku replied, just as soft. "I'll give Namimori a chance."

"That's all I ask," Inko said. She stood up, ruffling Izuku's hair as she did. "Why don't you see what you might want to take with you while I call Nana? Then I think we should go out for dinner. There's a new hero themed bakery we can go to afterwards for dessert. Sound good?" Inko asked. Izuku nodded with a grin, standing up as well.

Inko's phone call went how she expected it to go. Nana was a little surprised for her to be calling in the middle of the week, but was understanding once Inko explained everything.

"Of course Izu-kun can stay with us!" Nana exclaimed. "He can stay for as long as he needs. I'm sure Tsu-kun will enjoy the company as well."

"Thank you Na-chan. You don't know how much this means to me," Inko said, tearing up. She doubted Nana would have said no, her best friend was too kind for that, but Inko didn't know what she would have done if Nana had.

"Ko-chan," Nana's voice became gentler, sensing Inko's distress. "You would do the same for Tsu-kun in a heartbeat if our roles were reversed."

"Of course I would-" Inko started to protest, but Nana interrupted her.

"So then let me help out my best friend. If there was anything you ever needed help with, I promised I would be there."

"We made that promise while we puked in the bathroom sink after our first hangovers," Inko said with a small laugh. Nana answered with one of her own.

"Doesn't make it any less true," she said. "Now go spend time with your son Ko-chan. We'll have the guest room cleaned out for when he gets here."

"Thank you, Na-chan. For everything."

"Anytime Ko-chan. Promise. Love you!" With that, Nana hung up, leaving Inko to chuckle at her friend's antics. Inko placed the phone back on the receiver then went to find Izuku. She needed to tell him the good news. Then they had dinner plans to go to. Maybe they could even stop by the mall on their way home. Inko wanted to spend as much time with Izuku as she could before they were separated, even if it wouldn't be for more than a few months at most.
