King.

The first thing anybody ever learnt about Kong was he was king.

In the words of Hank Marlow after he was stranded on Skull Island, a unique part of the world where a part of the Hollow Earth rose up from beneath the planet and formed an island surrounded by perpetual electrical storms, populated by MUTOs that had come up from the Hollow Earth including a number of Kong's own race although they died off over the generations when they went to war with the Skullcrawlers, and the Iwi tribe, generations of sailors and passengers and colonists who had left their native lands over the centuries when humanity developed the technology to travel the oceans who were washed up and shipwrecked on Skull Island and had no choice but to survive after realising it was almost impossible to escape the island, Kong was king of the island, and he was a very good king who protected the island from the Skullcrawlers and any other threat, as the Monarch expedition in the 1970s discovered.

When Monarch first encountered Skull Island and Kong, it sent ripples through the organisation and was a major turning point; Skull Island was an isolated habitat and it proved many of their theories, and they discovered knowledge of the Hollow Earth even if they didn't have a clue of how to get into the environment; the greatest discoveries were the MUTOs themselves, especially since many of the lifeforms found on Skull Island were nothing like anything else found on Earth.

The ill-fated expedition had seen the death of many of the expedition, which started when Kong attacked them out of fear and concern the Sklullcrawlers would be drawn out of the ground when the Monarch-Landsat joint expedition dropped seismic charges on the ground and discovered the ground was hollow…but what they did not expect was the attack. Several among the ground believed Kong was a threat and they planned to attack and kill him… only for Kong to rescue them when the Skullcrawler known as the Big One attacked.

The expedition's discoveries shaped Monarch in ways the organisation hadn't expected. For a start, they discovered the Hollow Earth theory was true and allowed them the chance to pioneer new technologies and methods for discovering titans throughout the world - the methods Monarch had used beforehand had proven…less than stellar, and rather crude but after the encounter with Kong and the original expedition to Skull Island, the old and rather expensive methods which were seen as wild goose chases and what made many questions the worth of Monarch were thrown out and new methods were developed which brought in much success.

Thanks to the discoveries on Skull Island, Monarch discovered Rodan, Mothra, Ghidorah, and many other titans who had lain dormant in hibernation for centuries.

Secondly, the island contained a self-contained environment full of MUTOs, allowing for Monarch the opportunity to study them for a long time. But Kong and the Skullcrawler were two of the biggest prizes.

Later expeditions, learning from the mistakes of the Iwi and the 1970s expedition, set up a number of outposts, laboratories, and bases on the island and a continuous amount of transport to ensure nobody would ever be trapped on the island ever again. The Iwi were given help whenever they could, although they kept to their traditional living.

The time Monarch spent on Skull Island was a learning curve for them since it gave them the chance to study MUTOs and a confirmed titan safely and gave them a guide for later operations, and the geological surveys of the island (done safely so as to ensure no further Skullcrawlers came out of the ground to attack, especially in the Iwi village) ensured the organisation had a guide for discovering new titans that hadn't been discovered.

But Kong was still king, everyone realised that.

When Monarch's true purpose was discovered when Godzilla's first worldwide appearance since the nuclear bomb tests which took the entire planet by surprise, and after Godzilla later defeated Ghidorah a few years later, the world itself was reminded of that fact when Kong and Godzilla battled it out in Hong Kong, during Godzilla's rampage to discover and find Apex's Mechagodzilla, an artificial titan designed to kill him and ensure humanity gained its place as Alpha, and attempt which resulted in a tremendous loss of life when Godzilla attacked Apex and then later in Hong Kong when the artificial titan's connection to Ghidorah transformed it into a violent monstrosity.

Together, Kong and Godzilla pushed aside their own differences to defeat this new adversary but the world took note of how Kong was perhaps one of the few titans to not bow down to Godzilla...
